Description

CONVERTIBLE STORAGE BAG HAVING MULTIPLE CONFIGURATIONSBACKGROUND1. Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to storage bags, and more particularly to storage bags that are convertible between (1) an open, flat-laying configuration, (2) a first folded (and zipped, duffel bag) configuration, and a second folded (and secured, backpack) configuration. Specifically, the present disclosure relates to waterproof or water-resistant storage bags for containing and transporting wet clothing and gear.2. Related Technology

[0002] Bags, such as backpacks and duffle bags have long been used to transport and store clothing, gear, and other articles. Wet clothing, gear, and other articles can ruin these traditional bags by damaging fabric, altering shape, softness, or integrity, and leaving mildew and smell behind. Washable or waterproof bags attempt to resolve some, but not all of these issues. Accordingly, disposable plastic (garbage or lawn) bags are often used for wet clothing, gear, and other articles. However, the use of disposable plastic bags contributes to the growing problem of trash and waste build-up across the world.

[0003] Accordingly, there are a number of disadvantages with existing bags that can be addressed.BRIEF SUMMARY

[0004] Embodiments, implementations, and / or aspects of the present disclosure solve one or more of the foregoing or other problems in the art with devices, systems, and methods for storing or containing wet articles. In at least one aspect, the present disclosure relates to storage bags, and more particularly to storage bags that are convertible between (1) an open, flat-laying configuration, (2) a first folded (and zipped, duffel bag) configuration, and a second folded (and secured, folio or backpack) configuration. Specifically, aspects and embodiments of the present disclosure relates to waterproof or water-resistant storage bags for containing and transporting wet clothing and gear, such as surfing gear, including wetsuits and booties.

[0005] In some embodiments, a storage bag includes: a first side wall portion (e.g., section, panel, etc.), optionally having a generally half-circular shape, an inner surface side, and an opposing outer surface side; a second side wall portion attached or connected to or extending from the first side wall portion (e.g., along a seam, crease, stitching (pattern), etc., or extending seamlessly or uniformly from the first side wall portion),optionally having a generally half-circular shape, an inner surface side (aligned with the inner surface side of the first side wall portion), and an outer surface side (aligned with the outer surface side of the first side wall portion); a retaining element (e.g., zipper assembly), optionally disposed along an outer or peripheral edge (or circumference) of the first side wall portion and / or the second side wall portion, configured to retain the bag in a first closed configuration (of the bag) in which the inner surface side of the first side wall portion is brought adjacent to or in contact with the inner surface side of the second side wall portion (e.g., by folding the bag between the first side wall portion and the second side wall portion, or about a line extending along the interface between the first side wall portion and the second side wall portion); and one or more fasteners configured to maintain the bag in a second closed configuration (of the bag) in which a first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) of the bag in the first closed configuration is folded over a central (approximately one-third) portion of the bag in the first closed configuration (forming an intermediate folded configuration) and a second (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) of the bag, opposite the first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) of the bag in the first closed configuration, is folded over the first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) of the bag that is folded over the central (approximately one-third) portion of the bag (in the intermediate folded configuration).

[0006] In some embodiments, the storage bag can include a vent or window (e.g., a mesh material). The vent can be defined or disposed in the second side wall portion. Embodiments of the disclosed storage bags can be configured to store wet articles (e.g., without the wet articles molding or becoming malodorous). Illustratively, the storage bag can comprise or be (at least partially) formed of a waterproof material and / or include a vent or window that allows condensation to escape the storage bag.

[0007] In some embodiments, the storage bag can include one or more outer pockets (e.g., disposed or accessible on the outer surface of the first side wall). In some embodiments, the storage bag can include one or more (e.g., a pair of) inner pockets (e.g., disposed or accessible on the inner surface of the first side wall). The internal pocket(s) can keep various articles separated, for convenience and organization.

[0008] Embodiments of the disclosed storage bags can also be configured to compactly fold up for easy storage and transportation. Specifically, embodiments of the disclosed storage bags are configured to transition from a substantially flat and circular configuration; to a folded, substantially half-circular, duffel-bag type configuration; and, finally, to a tri-folded folio or backpack configuration. Seams or grooves within the first and second side walls provide pivot points about which the walls can be folded to facilitate movement between the various configurations (e.g., movement between the flat, duffel- bag, and a tri-folded folio or backpack configurations). Handle(s) at the top of the bag allow the storage bag to be used as a folio in the tri-folded configuration. Straps contained within an outer pocket on either the first or second side wall allow the storage bag to be used as a backpack in the tri-folded configuration.

[0046] While the detailed description is separated into sections, the section headers and contents within each section are not intended to be self-contained descriptions and embodiments. Rather, the contents of each section within the detailed description are intended to be read and understood as a collective whole where elements of one section may pertain to and / or inform other sections. Accordingly, embodiments specifically disclosed within one section may also relate to and / or serve as additional and / or alternative embodiments in another section having the same and / or similar systems, devices, methods, and / or terminology.

[0047] Embodiments, implementations, and / or aspects of the present disclosure solve one or more of the foregoing or other problems in the art with devices, systems, and methods for storing or containing wet articles. In at least one aspect, the present disclosure relates to storage bags, and more particularly to storage bags for wet articles. Specifically, aspects of the present disclosure relate to waterproof or water-resistant storage bags for containing and transporting wet clothing and gear, particularly surfing gear, such as wetsuits and booties.

[0048] In some embodiments, a storage bag includes: a first side wall portion (e.g., section, panel, etc.), optionally having a generally half-circular shape, an inner surface side, and an opposing outer surface side; a second side wall portion attached or connected to or extending from the first side wall portion (e.g., along a seam, crease, stitching (pattern), etc., or extending seamlessly or uniformly from the first side wall portion), optionally having a generally half-circular shape, an inner surface side (aligned with the inner surface side of the first side wall portion), and an outer surface side (aligned with the outer surface side of the first side wall portion); a retaining element (e.g., zipper assembly), optionally disposed along an outer or peripheral edge (or circumference) of the first side wall portion and / or the second side wall portion, configured to retain the bag in a first closed configuration (of the bag) in which the inner surface side of the first side wall portion is brought adjacent to or in contact with the inner surface side of the second side wall portion (e.g., by folding the bag between the first side wall portion and the second side wall portion, or about a line extending along the interface between the first side wall portion and the second side wall portion); one or more fasteners configured to maintain the bag in a second closed configuration (of the bag) in which a first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) of the bag in the first closed configuration is folded over a central (approximately one-third) portion of the bag in the first closed configuration (forming an intermediate folded configuration) and a second (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) of the bag, opposite the first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) of the bag in the first closed configuration, is folded over the first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) of the bag that is folded over the central (approximately one-third) portion of the bag (in the intermediate folded configuration).

[0049] In some embodiments, the storage bag can include a vent or window (e.g., a mesh material) defined or disposed in the second side wall portion, configured to allow condensation (water vapor) to escape the storage bag (when in a closed configuration). In some embodiments, the storage bag can include one or more outer pockets (e.g., disposed or accessible on the outer surface of the first side wall). In some embodiments, the storage bag can include one or more (e.g., a pair of) inner pockets (e.g., disposed or accessible onthe inner surface of the first side wall). The internal pocket(s) can keep various articles separated, for convenience and organization.

[0050] In some embodiments, the disclosed storage bag can also be configured to compactly fold up for easy storage and transportation. Straps contained within an outer pocket on either the first or second side wall allow the storage bag to be used as a backpack in the tri-folded configuration.Convertible Storage Bags

[0051] Figure 1 is a top plan view of a storage bag 100 for wet articles in an opened, unzipped configuration, in accordance with another embodiment of the present disclosure. In the opened, unzipped configuration, the storage bag 100 is substantially flat and circular. Figure 1 depicts an inner surface side 109 of the storage bag 100 (or side wall(s) thereof).

[0052] Illustratively, the storage bag 100 includes a first side wall portion (panel) 110, a second side wall portion (panel) 115. Storage bag 100, or second side wall portion (panel) 115 thereof, can optionally include a third sidewall portion (panel) 116. A retaining element (zipper assembly) 107 (having zipper pull(s) 106, 106’) is included around a perimeter of the storage bag 100 (or side wall portions 110, 115, 116 thereof). A seam or stitching (pattern) 108a can connect or be disposed between the first side wall portion 110 and the second side wall portion 115. An optional stitching (pattern) 108b can connect or be disposed between the second side wall portion 115 and the third side wall portion 116. Seam 108a is positioned substantially in the middle of the storage bag 100 and divides the (circular) storage bag 100 approximately in half (across the diameter). The first side wall portion 110 forms one-half of the storage bag 100; the second side wall portion 115 (optionally together with the third sidewall portion 116) forms the other half of the storage bag 100.

[0053] As discussed more fully below, seam 108a can also or alternatively be, comprise, or form a crease that facilitates or enhances the foldability of the storage bag100 into a first folded configuration of the bag. For instance, as illustrated in Figures 12 and 13, the storage bag 200 can be folded about the seam 108a, bringing first side wall portion 110 adjacent to or into contact with (or mating with) second sidewall portion 115 (and optional third sidewall portion 116, thereof). When so folded, the storage bag 100 is in a first folded (e.g., substantially half-circular) configuration.

[0054] The storage bag 100 also includes one or more handles 102 and a plurality of fasteners 112. As shown, the plurality of fasteners 112 can be buckles. In other embodiments, the plurality of fasteners 112 can be straps, hook-and-loop fasteners, snaps, and / or combinations thereof. The plurality of fasteners 112 are arranged and positioned to secure the storage bag 100 in a closed configuration. The closed configuration can include a first closed configuration (e.g., the duffel bag type configuration) and a second closed configuration (e.g., the backpack configuration).

[0055] The storage bag 100 also includes a vent or window 114 disposed in or defined by the second side wall portion 115. The vent or window 114 allows air to flow through the storage bag 100 when the storage bag 100 is in a folded, half-circular duffel bag configuration and when the storage bag 100 is in a tri -fold backpack configuration. In some embodiments, one of the handles 102 includes a flap to receive the other handle 102 and thereby secure the handles 102 together. The handle 102 may be attached or sewn to the top portion of the first side wall portion 110. In an aspect, the handle 102 may be attached or sewn to the top portion of the second side wall portion 115. In another aspect, one handle 102 may be attached or sewn to each of the first side wall portion 110 and the second side wall portion 115 so that, when the storage bag 100 is in a duffel bag configuration, a user can firmly hold the storage bag 100 by grabbing both handles 102.

[0056] The storage bag 100 includes inner pockets 104 attached to or disposed on the inner surface 109 of the first side wall portion 110. The inner pockets 104 each have an access opening 105. The inner pockets 104 are sized and shaped to receive any number and type of items. For example, the inner pockets 104 can receive shoes, clothing, keys, other personal items, etc.

[0057] Figure 2 is a top plan view of another embodiment of a storage bag 200. Figure 2 depicts an inner surface side 109 of the storage bag 200 (or side wall(s) thereof). The storage bag 200 of Figure 2 is similar to the storage bag 100 of Figure 1, so like elements will be referred to with like reference numerals. The storage bag 200 of Figure 2 includes first side wall portion 110, second side wall portion 115, and third sidewall portion 116. In Figure 2, a padding element (not shown) is sewn into or between fabric layers of secondsidewall portion 115, forming a first padded portion 120 (between seams 121a and 121b). A padding element (not shown) can also be sewn into or between fabric layers of third sidewall portion 116, forming a second padded portion 116b (between seams 121a and 121b). The padding element(s) used to form padded portion 120 and 116b can be the same padding element or different, separate padding elements. As illustrated more fully in Figures 14 and 15, seams 121a and 121b can also be useful in facilitating or enhancing foldability of the storage bag 200 from a first folded configuration (see Figures 12-13), through an intermediate folded configuration (see Figure 14), and to a second folded configuration (see Figure 15-17).

[0058] Zipper assembly 106 is included around a perimeter of the storage bag 200. Seams 108a, 108b connect third sidewall portion 116 to first and second side wall portions 110, 115, respectively. Seam 108a is positioned substantially in the middle of the storage bag 200 and divides the storage bag 200 approximately in half. First side wall portion 110 forms one-half of the storage bag 200; second side wall portion 115 together with third sidewall portion 116 forms the other half of the storage bag 200. The storage bag 200 also includes handle(s) 102 and a plurality of fasteners 112.

[0059] Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the storage bag 200 of Figure 2 (but can also represent a bottom plan view of the storage bag 100 of Figure 1). Figure 3 depicts an outer surface side 111 of the storage bag 200 (or side wall(s) thereof). As shown in Figure 3, the storage bag 200 includes strap pocket 128 that is aligned with the center of first side wall portion 110 (see Figure 1) or aligned with padded portion 120 of first side wall portion 110 (see Figure 2). The strap pocket 128 can be closed with zipper assembly 126. The strap pocket 128 is sized and shaped to receive and store straps 122 (see Figure 3). Disposed near a bottom portion of the back padded portion 120 are attachment points 124. The attachment points 124 are configured to receive ends of the straps 122 when the storage bag 100, 200 is folded in a backpack configuration. As illustrated, the attachment points 124 are D-rings; in other embodiments, the attachment points 124 can be snaps, clips, buckles, hook-and-loop fasteners, or any other appropriate means to attach to the straps 122.

[0060] As shown in Figure 3, the storage bag 200 includes securement loops 118a, 118b, which can also be a feature of storage bag 100 of figure 1. The securement loops 118a, 118b are configured to receive a portion of one of the plurality of fasteners 112. The securement loops 118a, 118b assist in keeping the storage bag 100, 200 in a closed configuration (see, for example, Figures 14-17).

[0061] Figures 4 through 11 illustrate various side elevation views of the storage bag of Figures 1 through 3. Some embodiments of the illustrated storage bag 200 include additional or enhanced padded portions that may add to a thickness of the storage bag 200 while the storage bag 200 is in an opened, unzipped configuration. The padded portions may also contribute to the thickness of the storage bag 200 when the storage bag 200 is in a first, closed, duffel bag configuration.

[0062] Figure 12 is a rear view of storage bag 200 in a first folded (or zipped) configuration, and represents a rear view of storage bag 100 in a first folded (or zipped) configuration. Figure 13 is a front view of storage bag 200 in a first folded (or zipped) configuration, and represents a front view of storage bag 100 in a first folded (or zipped) configuration. As shown in Figure 12, the vent or window 114 is still visible in the first closed or folded (zipped) configuration. The storage bag 100, 200 can be folded along seam 108a to form a substantially half-circular shape. The zipper assembly 106 can be engaged and zipped to keep the storage bag 100, 200 in a first closed or folded configuration.

[0063] Figure 14 illustrates an intermediate configuration (or intermediary folding step) in the transition between the first closed or folded configuration (see Figures 12-13) and a fully folded (or second closed or folded) configuration of storage bag 200 (see Figures 15-17), and represents an intermediate configuration (or intermediary folding step) in the transition between the first closed or folded configuration and a fully folded (or second closed or folded) configuration of storage bag 200. In the intermediate configuration of Figure 14, a first wing 123a of the storage bag 200 is folded over the central portion of the storage bag 200 in the intermediate configuration. The first wing 123a can comprise approximately one-third of the storage bag length. Illustratively, first wing 123a can be folded along seam 121a (see also Figure 2).

[0064] The first securement loop 118a is positioned in a portion of a second wing 123b, preferably adjacent to the distal end of first wing 123a, such that fastener 112a (of the plurality of fasteners 112) is adjacent to first securement loop 118a in the intermediate configuration of Figure 14. First securement loop 118a can receive the first fastener to retain first wing 123a in the intermediate folded configuration. The first fastener 112a of the plurality of fasteners is illustrated as a strap containing complementary hook-and-loop fastener elements at proximal and distal ends thereof. In the intermediate configuration, the first fastener strap 112a can loop through the first securement loop 118a and double-back on itself, so that the complementary hook-and-loop fasteners mate, thereby securing the first wing 123a of storage bag 200.

[0065] Figures 15-17 depict a second or fully folded configuration, tri-fold, or backpack configuration. In Figures 15-17, second wing 123b is folded over the central portion of the storage bag 200 and the already folded (and secured) second wing 123 a (of the intermediate configuration). The second wing 123b can comprise approximately one- third of the storage bag length. Illustratively, second wing 123b can be folded along seam 121b (see also Figure 2).

[0066] In the second folded, backpack configuration, a second securement loop 118b, preferably disposed at or near the proximal end of first wing 123a, receives a second fastener 112b. The second fastener 112b can be looped through the second securement loop 118b, doubled-back on itself, and buckled together, thereby securing the storage bag 200 in the second, fully folded / secured, tri-fold, backpack configuration.

[0067] Figure 15 is a rear view of the storage bag 200 in the second, fully folded / secured, backpack configuration and Figure 16 is a front view thereof. Figure 17 is a rear perspective view of the storage bag 200. The storage bag 200 of Figures 15 and 16 has been tri-folded into the second closed configuration, wherein the second closed configuration is the backpack configuration. As seen in Figure 15, the plurality of fasteners 112b and 112c (depicted as buckles, and collectively 112) connect together to hold the storage bag 200 in the tri-fold backpack configuration. An outer surface 111 of second wing 123b (or the first side wall portion 110) is the outer surface of the backpack. A portion of the vent or window 114 can optionally be seen through the tri-fold backpack configuration. Because a portion of the vent or window 114 is exposed, air can still flow through an interior of the storage bag 200 (i.e., the space between the interiors of both the first and second sidewalls), allowing water vapor to escape the interior of the bag. In this way, water from the wet items, or condensation created by wet items that are in the storage bag 200 can be vented out of the storage bag 200. This prevents any dry items in the bag from getting soggy; this also prevents mold and / or mildews from building up in the bag. The inner pockets 104 disposed on the interior of the first side wall portion 110 are preferably hidden from view. See also Figure 17.

[0068] The closed, tri-fold nature of the backpack allows clothes or other flexible items to be placed in the storage bag 200 while the bag is in the flat, open, unzipped configuration (see Figures 1-3). When the storage bag 200 is folded (in half) and zipped into the first closed configuration (see Figures 12 and 13), the clothes or other flexibleitems are initially secured. The storage bag 200 can be carried and transported while in the first closed configuration. To further secure and transport the stored items, the storage bag 200 can be further folded into the second closed configuration of Figures 15-17.

[0069] As seen in Figure 16, the (shoulder or backpack) straps 122 can be pulled out from the strap pocket 128. Ends of the straps 122 can be secured to the attachment points 124. A length of the straps 122 can be adjusted to properly fit a user of the storage bag 200.

[0070] The storage bag 200 includes seam(s) or crease(s) 121a, 121b, which can facilitate the folding of the storage bag 200 into the intermediate configuration (see Figure 14), via seam or crease 121a, and the second folded, or tri-fold (folio or backpack) configuration (see Figures 15-17), via seam or crease 121b. In some embodiments, the seam(s) or crease(s) 121a, 121b can define or divide the bag into three (approximate thirds) portions of the storage bag 200, where a first, central third (or central portion) includes the vent or window 114, a second portion (or second “third” of the bag) extends from one side of the central portion and includes one of the inner pockets 104, and a third portion (or third “third”) extends from the opposite side of the central portion and includes the other of the inner pockets 104. Each third can have a length of approximately 11-13 inches. Thus, when folded into the tri-fold (folio or backpack) configuration, the storage bag 200 can have an approximate length of 11-13 inches.

[0071] Based on the items in the inner pockets 104 and inside the storage bag 200, the folding lines may not follow exactly along seam(s) or crease(s) 121a, 121b. Further, the length between the fasteners 112 and the securement loop 118, when looped, can be lengthened or shortened to accommodate the amount of the items.

[0072] Figure 18 is a bottom plan view (or outer side) of another embodiment of a storage bag 300. Storage bag 300 can be substantially similar to storage bags 100, 200 depicted in Figures 1-17, with a few alternative features (discussed below). Thus, a top plan view (or inner side) of the storage bag 300 can be substantially similar to that of storage bags 100, 200 depicted in Figures 1 and 2, respectively. Similarly, a first folded configuration of storage bag 300 can be substantially similar to the view of storage bag 200 depicted in Figures 12-13, and an intermediate folded configuration of storage bag 300 can be substantially similar to the view of storage bag 200 depicted in Figure 14.

[0073] Storage bag 300 similarly includes a plurality of securement loops 118 to engage with and secure various of the plurality of fasteners 112. However, storage bag 300 has a different assembly of fasteners 112 and securement loops 118 than storage bags100, 200. Specifically, storage bag 300 has an additional, intermediate, or central fastener 112 configured to loop through an additional securement loops 118.

[0074] Similar to the tri-folded, folio or backpack configuration illustrated in Figures 15-17, the storage bag 300, as illustrated in Figures 19-20, can be secured by the plurality of fasteners 112 into a fully folded, second configuration (folio or backpack configuration). As shown, the plurality of fasteners 112 are buckles, though they can be snaps, clips, straps, hook-and-loop fasteners, etc. A portion of the vent or window 114 is preferably exposed, allowing air to circulate throughout the interior of the storage bag 300.

[0075] Figure 21 depicts a rear view of another embodiment of the storage bag 300a in a second, fully folded / secured, backpack configuration. The storage bag 300a illustrated in Figure 21 includes a plurality of fasteners 112b that are straps having corresponding tabs of hook-and-loop fasteners. When the corresponding tabs of hook- and-loop fasteners of the plurality of fasteners 112b are mated together, they hold the storage bag 300a in the tri-folded backpack configuration. Figure 22 is a front view of storage bag 300a in the second, tri-folded, backpack configuration.

[0076] Figure 23 is a bottom plan view and Figure 24 is a top plan view of a storage bag 400 for wet articles in an opened, unzipped configuration, in accordance with another embodiment of the present disclosure. Thus, Figure 23 depicts an outer surface side 411 of the storage bag 400 (or side wall(s) thereof) and Figure 24 depicts an inner surface side 409 of the storage bag 400 (or side wall(s) thereof). Various features or elements of other storage bags described herein can be found in storage bag 400.

[0077] Storage bag 400 includes: a first side wall portion (e.g., section, panel, etc.) 410, having a generally half-circular shape, an inner surface side 409 (Figure 24), and an opposing outer surface side 411 (Figure 23); a second side wall portion (e.g., section, panel, etc.) 415 attached or connected to or extending from the first side wall portion 410 (e.g., along a seam, crease, stitching (pattern), etc. 408, or extending seamlessly or uniformly from the first side wall portion 410), having a generally half-circular shape, an inner surface side 409 (aligned with the inner surface side 409 of the first side wall portion 410), and an outer surface side 411 (aligned with the outer surface side 411 of the first side wall portion 411); a retaining element 406 (e.g., zipper assembly, having one or more zipper pulls), disposed along an outer or peripheral edge (or circumference) 407 of the first side wall portion 410 and / or the second side wall portion 415, configured to retain the bag 400 in a first closed configuration (of the bag) in which the inner surface side 409of the first side wall portion 410 is brought adjacent to or in contact with the inner surface side 409 of the second side wall portion 415 (e.g., by folding the bag between the first side wall portion 410 and the second side wall portion 415, or about a line extending along the interface between the first side wall portion 410 and the second side wall portion 415); and one or more fasteners 412 configured to maintain the storage bag 400 in a second closed configuration (of the bag) in which a first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) 423a of the bag 400 in the first closed configuration is folded over a central (approximately one-third) portion 423c of the bag 400 in the first closed configuration (forming an intermediate folded configuration) and a second (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) 423b of the bag 400, opposite the first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) 423a of the bag 400 in the first closed configuration, is folded over the first (approximately one-third) side portion (or wing) 423a of the bag 400 that is folded over the central (approximately one-third) portion 423 c of the bag 400 (in the intermediate folded configuration).

[0078] By way of further description, storage bag 400 comprises a circular or rounded shape, with an upper, semi-circular sidewall (or panel) 410 and a lower, semi-circular sidewall (or panel) 415. One or more seam(s) or crease(s) 408 can divide, separate, or be disposed between panel 410 and panel 415. Panel 410 can comprise various fastener(s) 412 and pockets, 425, 428, 460, 460’. Panel 415 can have a vent 414 and (second) fastener(s) 450, 452.

[0079] The storage bag 400 also includes a handle 402 and a padded portion 420. Additionally, similar to the storage bags 100, 200, and 300, the storage bag 400 includes a pocket that is defined by or aligned with at least a portion of padded portion 420. The storage bag 400 includes the first side wall 410, and a strap pocket 428, which can be closed with zipper assembly 426. The pocket is sized and shaped to receive and store (shoulder or backpack) straps 422. Disposed at or adjacent to a bottom portion of upper panel 410, adjacent to sides of padded portion 420, are attachment points 424. The attachment points 424 are configured to receive ends of the straps 422 when the storage bag 400 is folded in a backpack configuration. The length of fastener (part) 452 can be less than a third of the length of the diameter of the storage bag 400 and greater than one nineth of the length of the diameter of the storage bag 400, in some embodiments. Fastener (part) 452 can be positioned starting from seam or crease 421b and extend towards seam or crease 421a. The fastener (part) 450 can be positioned starting from the left end of the storage bag 400. The length and position of the pair of fastener(s) 450 and 452 may be adjusted to accommodate various sizes and amounts of items.

[0084] When the right third of the storage bag 400 is folded first to form the intermediate folded configuration (see Figure 31), the fastener (part) 450 is secured to, attached to, mated with, or connected to the fastener (part) 452 so that the first folded configuration can be made with ease and remain without using additional holding mechanisms.

[0085] In a case where a small item is to be held in the storage bag 400, the left end of the fastener (part) 450 can be secured to, attached to, mated with, or connected to the right end of the fastener (part) 452. In another case where a large item or several items are to be held, the left end of the fastener (part) 450 can be secured to, attached to, matedwith, or connected to the middle or left end portion of the fastener (part) 452. The fastener(s) 450 and 452 can be a hook-and-loop fastener pair (strips).

[0086] The storage bag 400 can include a retaining element (zipper assembly) 406. The zipper assembly 406 is included around a perimeter of the storage bag 400. The zipper assembly 406 can be engaged and zipped to keep the storage bag 400 in a first closed configuration (see Figures 29-30). In at least some embodiments, the zipper end portion(s) of the zipper assembly 406 is not sewn into the bottom of the storage bag 400, but rather hangs away from the sidewalls of the bag.

[0087] Figure 24 illustrates padded portion 420, seams 421a, 421b, pockets 404, each having an access opening 405, vent 414, seam(s) or crease(s) 408, and other features of storage bag 400 that are similar to other storage bag embodiments described herein. In some embodiments, padded portion 420 can extend from the top of sidewall 410 (at strap 402) to the top of vent 414.

[0088] Figure 25 is a front elevation view of the storage bag of Figure 23, Figure 26 is a rear elevation view of the storage bag of Figure 23, Figure 27 is a right side elevation view of the storage bag of Figure 23, and Figure 28 is a left side elevation view of the storage bag of Figure 23.

[0089] Figure 29 is a front view and Figure 30 is a rear view of the storage bag 400 in a first folded, closed, or zipped configuration. The straps 422 are hidden in the pocket and the zipper assembly 426 closes the pocket. The attachment points 424 are configured to receive ends of the straps 422 when the storage bag 400 is folded in a backpack configuration. As illustrated, the attachment points 424 are loops. In other embodiments, the attachment points 424 can be snaps, clips, buckles, hook-and-loop fasteners, or any other appropriate means to attach to the straps 422. As shown, the end of the strap 422 is a g-hook and the attachment points 424 are loops.

Based on the size and / or amount of items contained in the storage bag 400, the position where the pair of fastener(s) 450 and 452 are secured to, attached to, mated with, or connected to each other can be determined on a case-by-case basis.

[0092] Figure 32 is a second folded (folio or backpack) configuration, in which the second wing 423b (an opposing approximately one-third side portion of the storage bag 400 while in the first closed configuration), opposite the first wing 423a, is folded (along the seam, stitching, or crease 421b) over the first wing 423a that is folded over the central portion 423c of the storage bag 400 (and secured or attached thereto via fasteners 412). By adjusting the length of the plurality of fasteners 412, the storage bag 400 in the second folded, tri-fold (folio or backpack) configuration can also accommodate various amounts of the items therein.

[0093] As illustrated in Figure 31, the outer pocket 460’ is exposed in the intermediate folded configuration. As illustrated in Figure 28, the outer pocket 460 is exposed in the second-folded configuration while the outer pocket 460’ is covered by wing 423b. The outer pocket 460’ can be used to store personal or secret items in a concealed mode because the outer pocket 460’ is hidden in the tri-fold configuration or backpack configuration. In this regard, the length of the outer pocket 460’ is adjusted so that the outer pocket 460’ is not shown in the backpack configuration. In an aspect, the outer pocket 460 can be optional. In another aspect, both the outer pockets 460 and 460’ are used in the storage bag 400.

[0094] Figure 33 is a front view of storage bag 400 in the second, fully folded / secured, backpack configuration (with the straps 422 (see Figure 23) hidden in pocket 428). When the straps 422 are hidden in pocket 428, the zipper assembly 426 closes the pocket. The attachment points 424 are inserted into the attachment point pockets 470 so that a good portion of the attachment points 424 are hidden in the attachment point pockets 470 via insertion through openings 425 thereof. The opening 425 of the attachment point pockets 470 can have an appropriate shape so that the opening can be found easily and the remaining portion of the attachment points 424 is exposed. In aspects, the shape of the opening 425 can be a square, parallelogram, rectangle, trapezoid, rhombus, semi-circle, semi-oval, or any other shape. The other portions of the attachment point pocket 470 other than the opening are not exposed outside. In some embodiments, the ends of zipper assembly 406 are not sewn into the body (or bottom) of the storage bag 400, but are hanging therefrom.

[0095] Figure 34 is a front view of storage bag 400 in the second, folded / secured, backpack configuration with the straps 422 deployed (i.e., removed from the pocket 428) and connected to the attachment points 424. The zipper assembly 426 is open. The attachment points 424 are taken out of the opening of the attachment point pockets 470 and the g-hooks of the straps 422 are connected to the attachment points 424.

[0133] To assist in understanding the scope and content of the foregoing and forthcoming written description and appended claims, a select few terms are defined directly below. Unless defined otherwise, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which the present disclosure pertains.

[0134] The terms “comprising,” “comprise,” “comprises,” and similar terms, as used herein, including in the claims, shall be inclusive and / or open-ended and do not exclude additional, un-recited elements or method steps, illustratively. Additionally, the terms “including,” “having,” “involving,” “containing,” “characterized by,” variants thereof (e.g., “includes,” “has,” and “involves,” “contains,” etc.), and similar terms as used herein, including the claims, shall be inclusive and / or open-ended, shall have the same meaning as the word “comprising” and variants thereof (e.g., “comprise” and “comprises”), and do not exclude additional, un-recited elements or method steps, illustratively.

[0135] As used herein, the transitional phrases “consisting of,” “consist of,” and similar terms shall be close-ended so as to exclude additional, un-recited elements or method steps, illustratively.

[0136] As used herein, the transitional phrase “consisting essentially of’ means that the scope of a claim is to be interpreted to encompass the specified materials or steps recited in the claim, “and those that do not materially affect the basic and novel characteristic(s)” of the claimed invention. See, In re Herz, 537 F.2d 549, 551-52, 190 U.S.P.Q. 461, 463 (CCPA 1976) (emphasis in the original); see also MPEP § 2111.03. Thus, the term “consisting essentially of’ when used in a claim of this disclosure is not intended to be interpreted to be equivalent to “comprising.”

[0137] As used herein, the terms “about,” “approximately,” and similar terms, with regard to a value, mean + / -10% of the stated value or amount represented thereby.

[0138] It will also be appreciated that where two or more values, or a range of values (e.g., less than, greater than, at least, and / or up to a certain value, and / or between two recited values) is disclosed or recited, any specific value or range of values falling withinthe disclosed values or range of values is likewise disclosed and contemplated herein. Thus, disclosure of an illustrative measurement (e.g., volume, concentration, etc.) that is less than or equal to about 10 units or between 0 and 10 units includes, illustratively, a specific disclosure of: (i) a measurement of 9 units, 5 units, 1 units, or any other value between 0 and 10 units, including 0 units and / or 10 units; and / or (ii) a measurement between 9 units and 1 units, between 8 units and 2 units, between 6 units and 4 units, and / or any other range of values between 0 and 10 units.

[0139] In at least one embodiment, the terms “form,” “forming,” and the like (e.g., “formed of,” “formed with,”), as well as “made of’ and “made with” are open-ended, such that sub-components that (are combined, mixed, or included together so as to) form a component (e.g., system, application, product, composition, mixture, ingredient, element, part, etc.) do not necessarily constitute the entire component. Accordingly, a product can be formed of, made of, formed with, or made with one or more components without, necessarily, consisting, either entirely or essentially, of said one or more components. Similarly, a component can comprise, be formed of, made of, formed with, or made with one or more sub-components, without, necessarily, consisting, either entirely or essentially, of said sub-components.

[0140] As used herein, the term “device” includes products, apparatus, assemblies, kits, systems, and so forth. Similarly, the term “method” includes processes, procedures, steps, and so forth.

[0141] Various aspects of the present disclosure, including systems, methods, and / or products may be illustrated with reference to one or more embodiments or implementations, which are exemplary in nature. As used herein, the terms “embodiment” and implementation” mean “serving as an example, instance, or illustration,” and should not necessarily be construed as preferred or advantageous over other aspects disclosed herein. In addition, reference to an “implementation” of the present disclosure or invention includes a specific reference to one or more embodiments thereof, and vice versa, and is intended to provide illustrative examples without limiting the scope of the invention, which is indicated by the appended claims rather than by the description thereof.

[0142] It is noted that embodiments of the present disclosure can comprise one or more combinations of two or more of the features described herein. As used herein, “feature(s)” and similar terms can include, for example, one or more components, elements, members, parts, portions, systems, methods, steps, configurations, parameters, properties, or other aspects of the subject matter at hand. Similarly, reference to a plurality of referents should be interpreted as comprising a single referent and / or a plurality of referents unless the content and / or context clearly dictateotherwise. Thus, reference to “pocket” does not necessarily require a plurality of such pockets. Instead, it will be appreciated that independent of conjugation; one or more pockets are contemplated herein.

[0147] As used herein, directional terms, such as “top,” “bottom,” “left,” “right,” “up,” “down,” “upper,” “lower,” “proximal,” “distal” and the like are used herein solely to indicate relative directions and are not otherwise intended to limit the scope of the disclosure and / or claimed invention.
