Description

[0001] A WATER-THINNABLE SILICONE MODIFIED POLYESTER RESIN BASED VARNISH THAT PROVIDES HIGH TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE

[0002] Technical Field

[0003] The invention relates to a novel water-thinnable silicone modified polyester resin that provides high temperature resistance, suitable for use in technical fields, tools or equipment that require resistance to high temperatures.

[0004] The invention particularly relates to a water-thinnable silicone modified polyester resin based varnish composition that is resistant to temperatures up to 4000 for use in motors and generators that require resistance to high temperatures that are especially used in indoor industrial areas.

[0005] State of the Art

[0006] Smoke extraction motors used in standard ventilation systems in confined spaces (underground parking lots, tunnels, shopping malls, hospitals) prevent the accumulation of toxic gases in the environment due to resistance to high temperatures in emergencies such as fire. Smoke extraction motors work with jet fans as couples for both fire emergencies and ventilation needs in indoor environments.

[0007] Smoke extraction motors that clear the smoke during fire extinguishing and rescue works in confined spaces are required to operate for 2 hours at 3000 / 4000 temperatures. In order for the motors to operate under these conditions, the internal parts of the motor, where the parts that perform the main functions of the motor are located, must have lower temperatures. In the art, this can be achieved by painting the exterior of the motor with thermal insulation paints. Thermal insulation paints allow less heat to be transmitted to the stator and coils of the motor, but the temperature may still increase in the area where the stators work. For this reason, the electrical insulation varnish used in the stators is also expected to be resistant to heat. In the present art, solvent free silicone resins are used for this purpose. However, these products are not only highly priced but are also mechanically instable. As a result of the research conducted in the literature, the application numbered 2007 / 08128 was found. The application relates to non-flammable insulation material used in places such as houses, workplaces, schools, theaters, cinemas, concert halls, hospitals, land, air, sea public transportation vehicles, all military and industrial applications and in preventing and delaying the spread of fires that may occur in rocket, jet motor and gas turbine bodies, providing heat and sound insulation and absorbing moisture. The said material comprises at least one organic and / or inorganic binder, at least one fiber, and liquid material that enables the formation of macro and microstructure. However, the document does not specifically mention the varnish containing silicone modified polyester resin.

[0008] Another application numbered 2022 / 020821 relates to a paint suitable for use in tanks or boilers, pipes, heat exchangers, furnaces and similar technical areas, tools or equipment requiring thermal insulation in smoke extraction motors used in industrial areas, providing simultaneous thermal insulation and high temperature resistance. The paint comprises silicone-based resin and hollow glass microspheres as at least one filler. However, the document relates to the paint composition and does not specifically mention the varnish composition containing silicone modified polyester resin that can be thinned with water.

[0009] As a result, due to the abovementioned disadvantages and the insufficiency of the current solutions regarding the subject matter, a development is required to be made in the relevant technical field.

[0010] The Objective of the Invention

[0011] The objective of the invention is to solve the aforementioned disadvantages by being inspired from the current conditions.

[0012] The main objective of the invention is to provide silicone modified polyester resin based varnish which can be thinned with water for use in technical areas, tools or equipment requiring high temperature resistance, especially in stators of smoke extraction motors used in indoor areas and requiring resistance to high temperatures up to 4000, and generators that need to operate at high temperatures.

[0013] The objective of the invention is to provide a water-thinnable varnish that provides heat resistance with silicone and elasticity with polyester in the structure of the resin. Another objective of the invention to provide a product with a suitable structure for dipping application.

[0014] Another objective of the invention is to provide a product that can be thinned with water, so a very low VOC content compared to solvent based products.

[0015] In order to fulfill the aforementioned objectives, the invention is a high temperature resistance providing varnish composition for use in motors and generators that require resistance to high temperatures used in closed spaces, and comprises; a water- thinnable silicone modified polyester resin, neutralizing agent, melamine resin, distilled water / solvent, additive / s.

[0021] Table 1. Varnish composition recipes within the scope of the invention

[0022] The varnish composition of the invention comprises water-thinnable silicone modified polyester resin that can be thinned with water and Melamine resin. Water-thinnable silicone modified polyester resin is the most important input of the invention. This resin has the distinct advantages with the silicone modification while maintaining the physical properties of polyester resins. The most important of these advantages are heat resistance, water repellency, hydrolytic stability, lubricity and electrical insulation. Melamine resin comprised in the varnish of the invention is used to ensure that the silicone modified polyester resin is cured under heat. The melamine resin used is preferably in a partially methylated form. The ratio of silicone modified polyester resin / melamine resin is very important and has an impact on the physical properties of the final coating. The solid silicone modified polyester resin / solid melamine resin ratio in the product of the invention is in the range of 75 / 25- 90 / 10. Here, the solid of the melamine resin is 80% and the solid of the silicone modified polyester resin is 65%. The solid resin ratios were calculated by multiplying the ratios given in Table 1 by their solids and these were proportioned. In the invention, it is very important that the ratios of solid melamine and silicone modified polyester resin by weight are at these values, that the final product has the desired hardness elasticity properties and that the curing times are shortened. The said varnish additive / s comprise the individual and combinations selected from antifoam, surface modifier, biocide. The antifoam contributes to preventing foam formation and reducing surface tension. The surface modifier and antifoam are preferably of the gemini structure. Gemini structures are dimeric structures consisting of two hydrophobic chains and two hydrophilic heads, connected by a spacer in or near the head groups. Here, the biocide is preferably a combination of Chloromethyl- methylisothiazolinone (CMIT I MIT). Chloromethyl-methylisothiazolinone (CMIT I MIT) is a broad-spectrum biocide that has been successfully used for microbial control and to prevent biological contamination.

[0023] The varnish composition of the invention comprises the neutralizing agent. The neutralizing agent adjusts the pH of the silicone modified resin that can be thinned with water and makes it compatible with water. The neutralizing agent is selected from amine derived compounds. Here, the pH of the varnish is in the range of 8.5-9.5.

[0024] The varnish composition of the invention comprises silicone modified polyester resin in the range of 55-85% by weight, neutralizing agent in the range of 2-7% by weight, melamine resin in the range of 5-30% by weight, distilled water / solvent in the range of 7.5-15% by weight, and additives in the range of 0.5-1 .5% by weight.

[0025] A preferred embodiment of the varnish composition of the invention comprises 70% silicone modified polyester resin by weight, 4% neutralizing agent by weight, 13.5% melamine resin by weight, 11 .4% distilled water by weight, 1.1% additives by weight.

[0026] The invention relates to a production method of silicone modified polyester resin-based varnish composition that can be thinned with water, for use in motors and generators that require resistance to high temperatures used in closed spaces. The method comprises the following process steps; i. neutralizing the silicone modified polyester resin by adding neutralizing agent, ii. Adding melamine resin to the mixture and mixing, iii. Obtaining varnish by adding distilled water / solvent and additives to the mixture.

The method of the invention in the process step ii) melamine resin is added to the neutralized silicone modified polyester resin mixture and being mixed.

[0028] The method of the invention in the process step iii) antifoam, surface regulator and biocide are added to the mixture as additives.

[0029] In order to obtain a preferred example of the invention, the following processes are followed:

[0030] 1 st Step: neutralizing of 70 wt% silicone modified polyester resin at ambient conditions, preferably in the temperature range of 20-25 O, by adding 4 wt% amine derived compounds as a neutralizing agent,

[0031] 2nd Step: Adding 13.5% melamine resin to the neutralized mixture and mixing with a mechanical mixer,

[0032] 3rd Step: Obtaining the varnish by adding 11.4% distilled water, 1.1% additives (antifoam, surface modifier, biocide) to the mixture and mixing with a mechanical mixer,

[0033] A test was conducted on the varnish subject to the invention within the scope of IEC60851-6 standard Test 9. In the said test, the wires wrapped around the chuck were immersed in varnish and cured at 2000 for 15 minutes. Then, they were exposed to temperatures of 3000 and 4000 for 2 ho urs.
