Abstract
Description
Description Title of the invention: Disc brake, in particular for a motor vehicle.
[0001] The invention relates to a disc brake, in particular for a motor vehicle, comprising a caliper, capable of spanning a sector of a disc secured to a wheel of said vehicle, so as to position a brake pad on each side of the disc, with means for controlling the tightening of the brake pads on the disc. Such a brake comprises a caliper comprising, facing one another, a fixed brake pad and a movable brake pad, as well as a mechanism for actuating the movable brake pad comprising a screw / nut system and means for transmitting a rotational movement of a drive shaft to the screw / nut system to actuate the movable brake pad, said actuating mechanism being mounted in a through housing provided in the caliper, an electric motor and an electronic control unit making it possible to control the actuation of said actuating mechanism,
[0002] State of the art.
[0003] In a disc brake, a caliper is rotationally fixed to the vehicle, for example to the stub axle forming the wheel hub. The caliper generally comprises two arms connected to each other by an arch, and spans a sector of a disc which is fixed to the wheel, with one arm on each side of the disc. The caliper grips the disc between its arms by means of a pair of friction linings, or brake pads, one on each side of the disc. For braking, these pads are clamped against the disc by the action of one or more brake pistons, actuated either by hydraulic pressure when used as a service brake or by electromechanical means when used as a parking brake. This clamping thus creates friction between the brake pads and the disc, which dissipates the kinetic energy of the wheel in the form of heat and achieves braking.
[0004] The service brake function is to slow the vehicle while it is moving, if necessary until it comes to a complete stop. In addition to the service brake, such a disc brake can also be used to perform the function of an emergency brake and / or a parking brake, also known as a parking brake.
[0005] In the case where the disc brake comprises electromechanical means for actuating said brake, said electromechanical means comprise on the one hand a screw / nut group and on the other hand an electric motor-reducer assembly for rotating the nut of the screw-nut group in both directions. A disc brake of this type is, for example, described in FR-A-3 116 576.
[0006] The caliper in this document has two branches, one carrying a fixed brake pad and the other a movable brake pad arranged opposite each other, the movable brake pad being driven in movement towards the fixed part using an electromechanical actuator comprising a ball screw-nut system and a rotation control interface from a motor.
[0007] The nut is mounted fixed in translation in a housing of the branch of the caliper and its rotational drive by the rotational control interface of the motor generates the translational movement of the screw, one end of which is connected to the movable brake pad.
[0008] Thus, the rotational drive of the nut in a first direction causes the translation of the screw projecting from the branch of the caliper and therefore the translational drive of the movable brake pad in the direction of the fixed brake pad, to control the tightening of the disc while the rotational drive of the nut in the opposite direction causes the translational movement of the screw in the opposite direction and therefore the separation of the movable brake pad to control the loosening.
[0009] A brake such as described above, however, has a complex structure and is also relatively bulky, linked in particular to the interface between the motor shaft and the nut of the screw / nut system.
[0010] In addition, the electric motor is mounted in the axis of the drive system, and the housing that contains it also carries the electronic control unit, known by the English acronym ECU (electronic control unit). Such a housing, which includes both the electric motor and the electronic control unit, is relatively bulky.
[0011] Furthermore, when mounting the electric motor, the connection to the transmission means must be perfectly centered, which can be difficult to achieve and maintain, particularly when fixing the housing to the caliper.
[0012] In this field, document WO-A-2023166434 discloses a disc brake which comprises an electric motor contained in a rear housing which has both a housing for the motor and a receiving compartment for the control unit. This rear housing is fixed to another so-called transmission housing, which is itself fixed to the caliper.
[0013] The invention therefore aims to propose a disc brake of this type which has a simpler structure and therefore a reduced size, and in which the centering of the electric motor during assembly is facilitated and guaranteed.
[0014] Thus, a first object of the invention is to propose a disc brake comprising a caliper comprising, facing each other, a fixed brake pad and a movable brake pad, as well as a mechanism for actuating the movable brake pad comprising a screw / nut system and means for transmitting a rotational movement from a motor shaft to the screw / nut system to actuate the movable brake pad, said actuating mechanism being mounted in a through housing provided in the caliper, an electric motor and an electronic control unit for controlling the actuation of said actuating mechanism, characterized in that the electric motor is contained in an open housing, fitted onto the caliper to assemble the motor shaft of the electric motor onto the transmission means, a covering and fixing cover being attached to said housing and fixed to the caliper, said covering and holding cover comprising means for receiving the electronic control unit.
[0015] Thus advantageously, by separating the housing containing the electric motor and the cover for covering and fixing said electric motor on the caliper, the assembly of the motor is carried out by simply fitting the housing containing the electric motor onto a complementary part of the caliper, which allows easy and centered assembly of the motor with the transmission means, while the assembly of the cover then allows the positioning of the housing to be fixed without the risk of shifting or deformation which would be linked to fixing the housing by screwing it onto the caliper.
[0016] Advantageously, the electric motor and the screw / nut system are mounted coaxially with each other.
[0017] The brake generally comprises a caliper having two branches defining a space between them, so that the brake is thus mounted overlapping on a disc secured to a wheel, a sector of the disc being thus housed between the branches of the caliper each carrying a brake pad. One of the brake pads called mobile is drivable in displacement relative to the other pad called fixed guided in translation along an axis XX- perpendicular to the disc interposed between the brake pads, in a tightening or loosening action. One of the branches of the caliper therefore comprises the housing in which the screw-nut system of the mechanism for actuating the mobile brake pad is mounted, this cylindrical housing, is open at one end in the space between said branches and open at its other end, accommodates the means for transmitting the rotation of the motor pinion to the screw.
[0018] The housing containing the electric motor comprises a base and a peripheral skirt arranged to fit onto the caliper. The branch of the caliper preferably comprises complementary fitting means for the housing containing the electric motor, these fitting means being constituted for example by a shoulder, a groove surrounding the end of the receiving housing. Said peripheral skirt of the housing is thus housed against the shoulder or in the groove provided on the caliper. The covering and fixing cover is then placed against the housing and fixed onto the caliper.
[0019] Advantageously, the covering and fixing hood includes means for receiving the electronic control unit.
[0020] This covering and fixing hood has a suitable shape to cover the caliper such as an L shape with one branch extending along the engine to cover and hold it and the other extending above the caliper. This shape thus advantageously makes it possible to distribute the various elements of the ECU and in particular to move certain electronic elements away from the electric motor.
[0021] Preferably, the cover consists of two walls extending substantially perpendicular to each other in an L shape, and has fixing means suitable for cooperating with complementary fixing means provided on the stirrup. Side walls extend along the two plates, carrying the fixing means such as holes for the passage of fixing screws, these holes being provided in correspondence with screw holes provided in the stirrup.
[0022] The cover hood having an L shape, the electronic control unit is carried on a plate which also has an L shape, complementary to that of the cover and fixing hood, thus offering a larger positioning surface for the electronic components, allowing the distribution of the various electronic components, in particular certain components away from the heating of the electric motor. A protective plate is attached to the electronic control unit.
[0023] Thus, the invention proposes a design and structure of the electric motor assembly and the electronic control unit which allows the motor to be centered on the caliper using a housing and a plastic / or aluminum covering and fixing hood with which the electronic control unit is fixed to the caliper by two screws.
[0024] According to a second object of the invention, the disc brake comprises a caliper comprising, facing each other, a fixed brake pad and a movable brake pad, as well as a mechanism for actuating the movable brake pad comprising a screw / nut system and means for transmitting a rotational movement of a drive shaft to the screw / nut system to actuate the movable brake pad, the caliper comprising a housing in which the screw / nut system and the means for transmitting the rotational movement of the drive shaft to the screw / nut system are mounted, brake in which the screw of the screw-nut mechanism is mounted fixed in translation in said housing and can be driven in rotation by the transmission means, while the nut mounted fixed in rotation in said housing is drivable in translation along the screw when the latter is driven in rotation, said housing comprising two different chambers, one for receiving the screw / nut system and the other for receiving the transmission means, said transmission means comprising in particular a movable crown secured to the screw of the system, screw / nut, said movable crown comprising a collar on its external periphery, intended to be in abutment and centered against a shoulder provided at the junction between the receiving chamber of the screw / nut system and the receiving chamber of the transmission means.
[0025] Advantageously, the movable crown of the transmission means is thus housed and kept centered in the receiving chamber thanks to said collar.
[0026] The movable crown is integral with the screw of the screw / nut system and, thus advantageously, the nut locked in rotation in the housing is driven in translation under the effect of the rotational drive of the screw by the motor shaft.
[0027] The nut locked in rotation in the housing is driven in translation under the effect of the rotational drive of the screw by the means of transmitting the rotation of the motor shaft while the positioning in abutment of the two crowns at the ends of the receiving chamber of the transmission means makes it possible to guarantee a centered assembly between the motor shaft and the screw-nut system.
[0028] As a result, during assembly, the screw-nut system, the screw of which has the movable crown at its end, is engaged in the receiving chamber of the screw / nut system of the caliper housing, with said crown which is housed in the receiving chamber of the transmission means in a centered manner thanks to the collar of the movable crown bearing against the shoulder defined between the two chambers.
[0029] The transmission means consisting of the planet carrier, the planet pinions and the fixed crown are engaged and mounted in the receiving chamber from the other end of the receiving chamber. The fixed crown preferably also comprises a peripheral collar which is mounted in abutment in a groove formed at the periphery of the end of said receiving chamber.
[0030] According to a preferred form, the fixed crown and the movable crown are respectively engaged with their internal toothed wall on a part of the satellite pinions in the extension of one another, their external peripheral wall extending along the wall of the chamber for receiving the transmission means.
[0031] The movable crown being integral with the screw, the collar resting against the shoulder of the housing in the caliper is also driven in rotation, rolling bearings are mounted between said collar and the shoulder to promote this rotational drive. As is known for this type of transmission, the rotation of the crown is a function of the difference in the number of teeth between the two crowns.
[0032] Thus advantageously, this centered installation on the one hand of the movable crown integral with the screw of the screw / nut system of the actuating means and on the other hand of the fixed crown simplifies the centered mounting of the electric motor using the motor pinion secured to the motor shaft of the electric motor.
[0033] The means for transmitting a rotational movement from a motor pinion to the screw / nut system are also housed in said housing. These transmission means are successively constituted, from the motor shaft, by a motor pinion, a planet carrier, a fixed crown and a movable crown.
[0034] According to a third object of the invention, the means for actuating the movable brake pad comprising the screw-nut system and at least one piston for driving the movable brake pad is in the form of a module insertable into the housing provided in the caliper.
[0035] Thus advantageously, such a module consists of the screw / nut system comprising the screw engaged in the nut, said nut carrying two pistons respectively comprising a rod, one end of which is fixed to an ear of the nut and the other end of which carries the head of the piston intended to protrude into the space between the branches of the caliper, the heads being mounted in a sealing bellows intended to be mounted in a sealed manner at the end of the housing.
[0036] The nut thus carries the two pistons driven in translation against the movable brake pad to exert on it an axial thrust at two separate support points allowing a better distribution of this thrust, in particular when the brake pad is of larger dimensions. This is notably possible thanks to the central mounting in said housing of the movable crown carried by the screw.
[0037] The brake according to the invention therefore has a simplified, more compact and therefore less expensive structure, allowing reliable mounting while providing better distributed axial thrust on the movable brake pad.
[0038] According to a first variant, the sealing bellows has a flat part, preferably reinforced by a metal insert, comprising two orifices in which the piston rods are engaged. The sealing bellows is furthermore fixed in a sealed manner to the periphery of the housing, closing said housing, with the piston heads resting against the outer face of said sealing bellows, projecting into the space between the branches of the caliper, the periphery of the holes being fixed in a sealed manner on said piston heads.
[0039] According to a second variant, a housing closure element is provided. This closure element is mounted by form cooperation in said end of the housing and carries the sealing bellows, said closure element comprising two orifices corresponding to the orifices of the sealing bellows for the passage of the piston rods.
[0040] The brake according to the invention makes it possible to limit the size linked to the interface between the motor pinion and the screw / nut system, which also makes it possible to reduce the number of parts required and, in addition, no radial force is supported by the screw and the interface, the nut behaving like a hydraulic type piston.
[0041] Additionally, since two pistons are provided, this provides greater flexibility for brake pad dimensions.
[0042] The present invention also relates to a motor vehicle equipped with disc brakes according to the invention.
[0043] The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a disc brake comprising a caliper comprising, opposite one another, a fixed brake pad and a movable brake pad, as well as a mechanism for actuating the movable brake pad comprising a screw / nut system and means for transmitting a rotational movement of a motor pinion to the screw / nut system to actuate the movable brake pad, in which a through bore is made in one of the branches of the caliper to form a housing opening into the space between the branches, said housing comprising two receiving chambers, the screw / nut system is mounted in the receiving chamber of the housing, one end of the screw provided with a crown is connected to the means for transmitting the rotational movement of a motor pinion connected to an electric motor.
[0044] The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the drawing in which the figures represent:

[0052] [Fig. 8] a longitudinal sectional view of the stirrup of Figure 6;
[0053] [Fig. 9] a perspective view of the screw-nut module according to figure 7.
[0054] As can be seen in Figure 1, the invention relates to a disc brake F comprising a caliper E intended to span a sector of a disc D which is secured to a vehicle wheel, for example on the hub MY.
[0055] This caliper E comprises two branches Bl, B2 defining between them a space El in which brake pads Pl, P2 extend opposite each other, intended to be located on either side of the sector of the disc D.
[0056] One branch of the caliper Bl, also called the nose of the caliper E, carries the brake pad f PI, fixed relative to the caliper E, while the second branch B2 carries the brake pad P2, movable relative to the caliper E, and the mechanism for actuating the movable brake pad.
[0057] Branch B2 thus comprises a through bore defining a housing L in which is housed as an actuating mechanism a screw / nut system actuated by a geared motor M. This screw / nut system is preferably made up of a ball screw / nut assembly, comprising a screw 1, a nut 2 and balls 3 engaged in threads of the screw 1 and the nut 2.
[0058] Thus, the screw 1 and the nut 2 extend into the housing L. This housing L is divided into two chambers, one C1 is the chamber for receiving the screw / nut system and the second C2 is the chamber for receiving the means for transmitting the rotational movement of a motor shaft 4 to the screw / nut system.
[0059] The screw 1 is mounted to be driven in rotation under the effect of the geared motor M and fixed in translation while the nut 2 is mounted fixed in rotation in said housing L and movable in translation in said housing L under the effect of the rotational drive of the screw 1.
[0060] The means for transmitting the rotational movement of a motor pinion 5 allow the rotational drive of the screw 1 and are for example successively constituted, from the motor shaft 4, of a motor pinion 5, of a planet carrier comprising planet pinions 8 and a fixed crown 6 engaged with said planet pinions 8 and of a movable crown 7, which is engaged with the planet pinions 8 and secured to the screw 1. Thus, this movable crown 7 is made in one piece with the screw 1, for example by constituting the end of the screw 1.
[0061] The satellite pinions 8 located radially between the planet carrier and the movable crown 7 ensure the irreversibility of the movements transmitted inside the brake F.
[0062] The motor pinion 5 is fixed to the motor shaft 4, and the planet gears 8 mesh with the motor pinion 5 as well as the movable crown 7. The screw 1 is fixed to the movable crown 7.
[0063] As a result, when the crown 7 is rotated under the effect of the motor pinion 5, the screw 1 is rotated. The nut 2 is held fixed in rotation in the chamber C1 of the housing L and is then driven in translation along the screw 1.
[0064] The electric motor M comprising the motor shaft 4 is contained in an open housing 10, fitted onto the branch B2 of the stirrup E to assemble the motor shaft 4 with the transmission means.
[0065] The housing 10 enclosing the electric motor M comprises a base 11 and a peripheral skirt 12 arranged to fit onto the caliper E. The branch B2 of the caliper E preferably comprises complementary fitting means for the housing 10, these fitting means consisting for example of a shoulder 131 provided at the end of the branch B2, around the end of the receiving chamber C2 of the housing L. Said peripheral skirt 12 of the housing 10 also has a radially projecting peripheral rim 14 which is thus housed against the shoulder 131 provided on the caliper E when the motor M is put in place with the transmission means.
[0066] A covering and fixing cover 30 is attached to said housing 10 and fixed to the stirrup E, said covering and fixing cover 30 further comprising means for receiving the electronic control unit ECU.
[0067] The covering and fixing hood 30 has a shape suitable for covering the caliper E such as an L shape of which one branch 31 extends along the motor M to cover and hold it and the other 32 extends above the caliper E. This shape thus advantageously makes it possible to distribute the different elements of the ECU and in particular to move certain electronic elements away from the electric motor M.
[0068] The cover 30 is made up of two walls 31, 32 extending substantially perpendicular to each other in an L shape, and has side walls 33 which extend along the two plates 31, 32, and which carry fixing means such as holes 34 for the passage of fixing screws. These holes 34 are arranged in correspondence with screw holes 15 arranged in the stirrup E.
[0069] These side walls 33 are arranged to project beyond the plates 31 and 32 and form a peripheral rim 33a delimiting a receiving housing 35 for the electronic control unit ECU. This electronic control unit ECU is carried on a plate which also has an L-shape, complementary to that of the covering and fixing cover 30 and which is housed in the receiving housing 35.
[0070] Once the electronic control unit ECU is in place on the cover 30, a protective plate 40 is attached to the electronic control unit ECU.
[0071] The housing L of the stirrup E comprises two different chambers, one Cl for receiving the screw / nut system and the other C2 for receiving the transmission means, this latter chamber C2 being of smaller dimensions than those of the present receiving chamber Cl, a shoulder 13 separating said chambers Cl, C2.
[0072] The movable crown 7 comprising the collar 71 on its external periphery, is thus intended to be in abutment and centered against the shoulder 13 formed at the junction between the receiving chamber C1 of the screw / nut system and the receiving chamber C2 of the transmission means. In this way, the movable crown 7 is thus housed and kept centered in the receiving chamber thanks to said collar 71 in abutment against the shoulder 13.
[0073] The transmission means consisting of the planet carrier, the planet pinions 8 and the fixed crown 6 are engaged and mounted in the receiving chamber C2 from the other end of the receiving chamber C2. The fixed crown 6 preferably also comprises a peripheral collar 61 which is mounted in abutment against the shoulder 16 formed at the end of said receiving chamber C2, by a groove 132 surrounding the opening of the chamber C2.
[0074] The fixed crown 6 and the movable crown 7 are respectively engaged with their internal toothed wall on a part of the satellite pinions 8 in the extension of one another, their external peripheral wall extending along the wall of the receiving chamber C2 of the transmission means.
[0075] The movable crown 7 being integral with the screw, the collar 71 bearing against the shoulder 13 of the housing L in the stirrup E is also driven in rotation, rolling bearings 72 are mounted between said collar 71 and the shoulder 13 to promote this rotational drive.
[0076] Thus advantageously, this centered positioning on the one hand of the movable crown 7 secured to the screw 1 of the screw / nut system of the actuating means and on the other hand of the fixed crown 6 makes it possible to simplify the centered mounting of the electric motor M using the motor pinion 5 secured to the motor shaft 4 of the electric motor M contained in its housing 10, the skirt 12 of which is fitted onto the shoulder 13.
[0077] The means for actuating the movable brake pad P2 comprising the screw-nut system and at least one drive piston 9 of the movable brake pad P2 is in the form of a module MO insertable into the housing L provided in the caliper E.
[0078] This MO module consists of the screw / nut system comprising the screw 1 engaged in the nut 2. The nut 2 is in the form of a cylindrical sleeve 21 surrounding the screw 1, and carrying two projecting ears 22, for example diametrically opposed or placed on either side of the sleeve 21 in mirror symmetry.
[0079] The receiving chamber Cl of the housing L is thus of complementary shape and dimensions to the nut 2, having a bore and two grooves at the periphery of the bore so that the nut 2 is fixed in translation in said chamber Cl, due to the ears 22 engaged in the grooves of complementary shapes and dimensions and only drivable in translation in said chamber Cl under the effect of the rotation of the screw 1.
[0080] The nut 2 carries the two pistons 9 which respectively comprise a rod 91, one end of which is fixed to an ear 22 of the nut 1 and the other end of which carries the head of the piston 92. This latter end of the rod 91 is also engaged through a through orifice 41 formed in a sealing bellows 50.
[0081] This sealing bellows 50 is intended to be placed at the end of the housing L of the caliper 2 to seal said housing L, with the piston heads 92 projecting into the space El between the branches Bl, B2 of the caliper E as can be seen in figure 7.
[0082] This sealing bellows 50 has a flat central part 52 made rigid using a metal insert, and in which the through orifices are arranged, this central part 52 being surrounded by a skirt 53, folded in the shape of an accordion, allowing the fixing of said bellows 50 in a closing element 60 in the form of a metal plate comprising passage orifices for the rods 91 of the pistons 9, the plate 60 having dimensions and a shape allowing forceful engagement in the end of the housing L.
[0083] The sealing bellows 50 is thus mounted in a sealed manner at the end of the housing L with the two piston heads 92 intended to protrude into the space El between the branches Bl, B2 of the caliper E, the deployment of the accordion-folded parts maintaining the fixing and the seal.
[0084] The piston heads 92 bear against the movable brake pad P2. Thus, in a first direction of rotation of the screw 1, the nut 2 is driven in translation so that the pistons 9 are driven in projection into the space E1 and, in abutment against the movable brake pad P2, to drive the latter in translation towards the fixed brake pad PI to tighten the disc.
[0085] In the opposite direction to the rotation of the screw 1, the nut 2 is driven in translation backwards in the housing L, causing the pistons 9 to withdraw, which separates the movable plate P2 from the fixed plate PI in the direction of loosening.
[0086] Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples which have just been described and numerous adjustments can be made to these examples without departing from the scope of the invention.
