Description

VEHICLE DOOR LATCHTechnical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of latches, and more particularly to a vehicle door latch. Background Art

[0002] A motor vehicle has multiple doors for people to get in and out. For the purpose of safety, the doors are equipped with door latches, which are locked to fasten the door and vehicle body. However, for a conventional door latch, the user has to pull the door with a certain force in order to lock the door latch to a fully locked position. Such a structure is laborious and prone to the situation that the door latch is not fully locked. With the development of vehicles, a door latch with a self-cinching function has been developed. Not necessitating the user closing the door forcibly, this door latch will be locked automatically when the door moves to a small opening angle.

[0003] In addition, the door latch has an electrical unlocking function. When it is necessary to open the door, the people in the vehicle need not operate the mechanical structure manually to release the door latch, which, instead, can be unlocked electrically. However, in winter, especially in rainy or snowy weather, the door may be frozen or the vehicle may be stranded on a slope, and after electrical release is applied, the icebound door cannot be opened through an electrical counterforce. Accordingly, the door latch shall be provided with an ice-breaking function.

[0004] Therefore, the door latch shall have the functions of electric release, ice breaking and self-cinching, which makes the structure of the door latch more and more complicated. In one of the solutions known by the applicant, two pull cables are used to actuate the self-cinching device and the ice-breaking device respectively, which requires two corresponding actuators, resulting in more complex structure and control and higher costs. In some other solutions, one pull cable and one actuator are used to drive the self-cinching device and the ice-breaking device simultaneously. However, as more and more vehicles use intelligent door latches, it is still necessary to develop a new vehicle door latch.Summary of the Invention

[0045] Fig. 1 is a perspective view from one perspective of the vehicle door latch of the present invention. As can be seen from fig. 1, the door latch comprises a shell consisting of a cover 1 and a housing 2 to form a space, in which various movable parts of the door latch can be at least partially accommodated. In addition, the shell provides various electrical interfaces and installation interfaces for the door latch. Fig. 2 is a perspective view from another perspective different from that of fig. 1. As can be seen from fig. 2, the housing 2 is further provided with a base plate 3, which serves as a mounting structure for some movable parts. The base plate 3 is provided with a recess to accommodate a striker 4. The striker 4 can move in the recess to lock or unlock the door.

[0046] As an example, the shell and the components accommodated therein and mounted thereon are provided on the vehicle door, and whereby can move together with the vehicle door. The striker 4 is correspondingly installed on the vehicle body or other parts that are fixed relative to the vehicle body. In this way, when the door is being closed, the catch installed in the door latch on the door will engage with the striker to lock the door.

[0047] The structure of the movable parts in the vehicle door latch of the present invention and the movement processes thereof will be described in detail below. Fig. 3 is a perspective view from another perspective of the vehicle door latch of the present invention, in which only the internal components are shown. As can be seen from the upper part of fig. 3, a pull cable 5 is provided, which is connected to an inner release lever 6, wherein the inner release lever 6 is mounted on and rotatable around an inner release lever shaft 7. In this way, when the pull cable 5 is pulled, the inner release lever 6 can be rotated to fulfill the specific function of the door latch.

[0048] As can be seen from the left in fig. 3, the output shaft of the motor 9 is provided with a worm 8, which meshes with the first gear 10. The first gear 10 preferably takes the form of duplex gears, so it has two gears with different diameters. The first gear 10 is fixed by and rotatable around a first gear shaft 11. Specifically, the larger gear of the first gear 10 meshes with the worm 8, while the smaller gear of the first gear 10 meshes with a second gear 12.

[0049] The second gear 12 also preferably takes the form of duplex gears, and accordingly it also has two gears with different diameters. The second gear 12 is fixed by and rotatable around a second gear shaft 13. Specifically, the larger gear of the second gear 12 meshes with the smaller gear of the first gear 10, and the smaller gear of the second gear 12 meshes with a third gear or the final gear 14. The final gear 14 is arranged on a third gear shaft 16.

[0050] As a specific embodiment of the present invention, the final gear 14 is further provided with a sealing ring mounting groove for mounting a sealing ring 15. The final gear 14 can operate with the housing 2, so the sealing ring 15 can ensure the airtightness between the inside and outside of the shell, achieving waterproof and dustproof effects.

[0051] Fig. 4 is a perspective view from another perspective different from that of fig. 3. Specifically, fig. 4 shows the other side, or back side, of the view in fig. 3. The motor, the worm, the first gear, the second gear and the third gear can still be seen from fig. 4, and will not be repeated here. On the third gear, a mounting shaft 20 is arranged non-coaxially with the third gear shaft, and a self-cinching lever 18 and an ice-breaking lever 22 are fixedly arranged on the mounting shaft 20. Thus when the third gear rotates, the self-cinching lever 18 and the ice-breaking lever 22 can rotate therewith. The mounting shaft 20 is further provided with a gasket 21.

[0052] Fig. 14 is a schematic diagram exclusively showing the structure of a self-cinching lever and an ice-breaking lever in a vehicle door latch of the present invention, wherein the upper figure in fig. 14 shows that the third gear is equipped with both a self-cinching lever and an ice-breaking lever, the middle figure shows that only a self-cinching lever is installed on the third gear, and the lower figure shows that only an ice-breaking lever is installed on the third gear. The shapes of the self-cinching lever and ice-breaking lever can be clearly seen from fig. 14. It should be noted that the specific shapes shown in fig 14 are only examples, and the self-cinching lever and ice-breaking lever can have other shapes, as long as their functions are fulfilled.

[0053] Fig. 15 schematically shows the structure of a third gear in the vehicle door latch of the present invention. It can be seen that in addition to the hole provided in the center of the gear for the third gear shaft to pass through, the third gear is further provided with a hole for insertion of the mounting shaft 20. Fig. 15 also shows other structures, which will be described later.

[0054] Now return to fig. 4, which shows the self-cinching lever spring 19 and the ice-breaking lever spring 23. They both can be torsion springs for resetting the self-cinching lever and the ice-breaking lever. As an improvement of the present invention, Fig. 18 schematically shows that torsion springs are installed in the third gear of the vehicle door latch of the present invention. As can be seen from fig. 18, the self-cinching lever spring 19 and the ice-breaking lever spring 23 are accommodated in the final gear 14 in a radial direction, and the rotation axis of the final gear 14 (through O1) does not coincide with but is somewhat offset from the axes of the two torsion springs (through O2) . This eccentric structure can reduce the working angles of the torsion springs, and prolong their service life. The offset is very small, obviously smaller than the offset of the mounting shaft 20 from the rotation axis of the final gear 14.

[0055] Fig. 4 also shows a catch 24, which can rotate around a catch shaft 25. The catch 24 is provided with a recess to engage with the striker 4. The catch 24 is further provided with a part that engages with a pawl 26. The pawl 26 is provided on and rotatable around a pawl shaft 27.

[0056] A pull cable and an inner release lever are shown in the lower part of fig. 4. Specifically, the inner release lever is provided with a contact portion 6a for acting on one end of an interruption driving lever 30. The interruption driving lever 30 can be mounted on a fixed part by a threaded fastener 31, for example, and can rotate around the axis of the threaded fastener 31. The other end of the interruption driving lever 30 can be engaged with one end of an interruption operating lever 28 to drive the interruption operating lever 28 to rotate around an interruption operating lever shaft 29. The other end of the interruption operation lever 28 can be engaged with the self-cinching lever, thus preventing the movement of the self-cinching lever and interrupting the self-cinching operation.

[0057] The structure of the vehicle door latch in the present invention has been described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. Next, the working process of the vehicle door latch will be described with reference to Figs. 5-13. In the drawings, only components in connection with related functions are shown for simplicity and easy understanding. Similarly, to facilitate understanding, bottom views, top views, and views from other perspectives are used for illustration. In addition, curved arrows are used to indicate the rotating directions of components, straight arrows are used to indicate the moving directions of components, and dotted boxes are used to indicate the engagement of key components.

[0058] Fig. 5 schematically shows the operation of the vehicle door latch of the present invention in a first state when the self-cinching function is performed. In the first state, the catch and the pawl are in a semi-locked position as shown in the dotted box, and the door is opened at a small angle. At this time, the motor starts to work and sequentially rotates the first gear, the second gear and the third gear in the direction shown in the figure. When the third gear rotates, it drives the self-cinching lever thereon to rotate. As shown by the left dotted box in the upper figure of fig. 5, the self-cinching lever hasn’t been engaged with the self-cinching lever engaging portion on the catch at that time.

[0059] Fig. 6 schematically shows the operation of the vehicle door latch of the present invention in a second state when the self-cinching function is performed. In the second state, the self-cinching function has just been started. At this time, the motor continues driving the gears to move in the directions shown in Fig. 5, the self-cinching lever begins to contact with the self-cinching lever engaging portion on the catch, and the catch begins to engage with the striker. The states of the self-cinching lever and the self-cinching lever engaging portion on the catch can be seen in fig. 7. At this time, as shown in the upper figure of fig. 6, since the self-cinching lever pushes the catch downward to rotate it, the catch engages with the striker during the rotation and drives the striker to move upward in the groove on the base plate 3, thus completing the self-cinching.

[0060] Fig. 8 schematically shows the operation of the vehicle door latch of the present invention in a third state when the self-cinching function is performed. In this state, the self-cinching has been completed, the catch and the striker are fully engaged, and the vehicle door latch is locked. Fig. 9 shows the states of the self-cinching lever and the self-cinching lever engaging portion of the catch at this time.

[0061] Next, the interruption function of the vehicle door latch of the present invention will be described with reference to figs. 10 and 11. Fig. 10 schematically shows the operation of a vehicle door latch of the present invention in a first state when the interruption function is performed, and Fig. 11 schematically shows the operation of a vehicle door latch of the present invention in a second state when the interruption function is performed. As can be seen from fig. 10, in the first state, the self-cinching operation is in progress. In this state, if the pull cable pulls the inner release lever to rotate, the contact portion 6a on the inner release lever acts on one end of the interruption driving lever 30 and rotates it, which in turn makes the other end of the interruption driving lever 30 engage with one end of the interruption operating lever 28, driving the interruption operating lever 28 to rotate and making it abut against the interruption operating lever engaging portion on the self-cinching lever, thus stopping the movement of the self-cinching lever and interrupting the self-cinching operation. In fig. 10, the self-cinching lever is in operation and has been engaged with the self-cinching lever engaging portion of the catch. However, as the interruption operation goes on, it can be seen from the lower left part of fig. 11 that the self-cinching process has been interrupted, and at this time, the self-cinching lever has been disengaged from the self-cinching lever engaging portion of the catch.

[0062] Next, the ice-breaking function of the vehicle door latch of the present invention will be described with reference to figs. 12 and 13. Fig. 12 schematically shows the operation of a vehicle door latch of the present invention in a first state when the ice-breaking function is performed, and Fig. 13 schematically shows the operation of a vehicle door latch of the present invention in a second state when the ice-breaking function is performed. As can be seen from fig. 12, there is a certain distance between the ice-breaking lever and the striker at this time. The motor rotates in a direction opposite to the direction of the self-cinching operation, driving each gear to rotate in another direction, thus driving the ice-breaking lever to move towards the striker. As the ice-breaking lever abuts against the striker and continues to push it, the striker is pushed and moves in the recess on the base plate, thus breaking the ice.

[0063] In fact, as shown in fig. 14, in the vehicle door latch of the present invention, it is available to only provide a self-cinching lever to fulfill the self-cinching function, or only provide an ice-breaking lever to fulfill the ice-breaking function. The two functions are independent and do not interfere with each other, and they may cooperate with each other, if necessary.

[0064] Now return to fig. 3, which shows that a cover plate 17 is provided. Fig. 16 schematically shows the structure of a cover plate in the vehicle door latch of the present invention. As can be seen from figs. 3 and 16, the cover plate 17 has a hole for the third gear shaft 16 to pass through, and it is provided with a protrusion 17a extending in the axial direction of the third gear shaft 16. Refer to fig. 15 again, which shows that the final gear 14 is provided with an annular groove with less than one turn, and two ends of the annular groove are a first stop 14a and a second stop 14b respectively. The protrusion 17a is located in the annular groove. As shown in the upper right of fig. 16, the cover plate 17 also has a hole for the fixed shaft to pass through, so that it can be fixedly arranged. Specifically, with reference to fig. 4, the hole can be provided for the pawl shaft 27 to pass through. Accordingly, when the final gear 14 rotates, it will be blocked and thereby positionally limited due to the protrusion 17a stops the first stop 14a and the second stop 14b at both ends of the annular groove respectively, as the cover plate 17 is stationary. In this way, the third gear can be prevented from moving in a too large angle.

[0065] Further, considering that the final gear 14 may be made of plastic, it can be internally provided with a metal framework 14c, which has two corresponding stops to increase the strength.

[0066] In addition, the cover plate 17 is provided with a first plate 17b and a second plate 17c to axially limit the final gear 14.

[0067] Fig. 17 is a partial schematic diagram of a third gear shaft in the vehicle door latch of the present invention. The final gear 14 is not shown in the figure. As can be seen from fig. 17, one end of the third gear shaft 16 is fixed to the base plate 3, and the other end is fixed to the cover plate 17 to increase the strength.

[0068] Those skilled in the art can make various modifications and variations to the embodiments disclosed herein without departing from the scope or spirit of the present invention. Other embodiments of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art according to the practice of the present invention disclosed in this specification. This specification and the examples disclosed herein are considered to be illustrative only, and the true scope of the present invention is determined by the appended claims and their equivalents.
