Abstract

The disclosure relates to a method for the production of dopamine, wherein a bacterial strain comprising a. a transgene expressing an L-tyrosine decarboxylase at least 85% identical to SEQ ID NO 001 under control of a first promoter sequence operable in the bacterial strain, and b. a transgene expressing polyphenol oxidase (ppo) at least 85% identical to SEQ ID NO 002 under control of a second promoter sequence operable in the bacterial strain, is propagated in culture medium, optionally in presence of Cu(II) ions and / or tyrosine, and the produced dopamine is separated from the culture medium and purified. The disclosure further relates to a recombinant bacterial strain expressing SEQ ID NO 001 and 002, or a biologically active variant thereof.
