A method comprising: detachably connecting a module to a modular pet collar or modular pet harness, wherein the module includes a sensor; powering the detachably connected module via a battery; sensing data indicative of a characteristic or activity for the pet via the sensor; wirelessly communicating a signal to a remote computer via a wireless communication system of the modular pet collar or modular pet harness, wherein the signal is based on the sensed data; and the remote computer providing a notification to a user based wirelessly communicated signal.
