[0135] Setting up a house, in any shape or form, is not easy. Regardless of whether one is building the house from scratch by forming the materials and building the house piece by piece, or moving an already constructed house to a desired location, putting a house where a person or a family wants to live takes time, sweat, effort, and money. In the first case, it can take months to simply build the house, and in the second case, moving an already constructed house is such a large undertaking that transporting such a house can be prohibitively expensive and time-consuming.
[0136] However, the systems and methods described herein allow for settingup housing using a collapsible and deployable building structure that is not only easy to set up once received, but also compact, allowing for easy transport. For example, the collapsible building structure (or alternatively, a kit for setting up the building structure), is set up so that the structure is easily deployable (e.g., by unfolding it into a deployed position, or connecting the pieces of the kit to form a structure) within mere hours. At the same time, the building structure’s collapsible and deploy able nature allows it to be condensed to a small size - small enough to fit within a storage container, making transport not only easy, but affordable as well. By contrast, conventional methods such as building a house from scratch takes months, even if the home does not need to be transported, and moving an already built house is no small task.
[0137] Accordingly, the systems andmethods described herein overcome the fact that there is no efficient way to provide an easy-to-build home that fits that is easy to transport. As noted, the collapsible build structures or kits described herein may be able to fit within easily transportable storage containers, offering a convenient way to transport large objects. In addition to the benefits of transportability, these collapsible homes are configured to comply with housing codes, ensuring that they meet necessary safety and livability standards. This combination results in an easily transportable house that can be delivered to individuals in need, addressing a critical gap in the housingmarketthattraditional materials and methods cannotfulfill. Moreover, deployment of the structures is easy and fast. For example, in some embodiments, the incorporation of internal hinges allows for a secure, permanent setup once the building is deployed. In some embodiments, keys and latches may be utilized to provide support and stability once the buildingis deployed. In some embodiments, the keys and latches engage at one or more attachment points between the floor frame, the wall frame, the ceiling frames, or any combination thereof. In some embodiments, the keys and latches ensure that the plurality of frames remain securely connected when deployed. In some embodiments, one or more internal hinges, keys, latches, or any combination thereof is utilized in the collapsible building structure. The combination of internal hinges, keys, and / or latches may allow for quick and reliable assembly while maintaining the structural integrity of theWSGR Docket No. 68985-701.601 collapsible building. In some embodiments, the key / latches may engage automatically or manually.
[0138] In other embodiments, the kits include frames of the structure which can be easily connected during setup but allowforthe detachedframesbe neatly stacked and transported. These configurations not only simplify transportation but also facilitate a straightforward and efficient assembly process, enablingusersto establish apermanentlivingspace quickly and easily. In some embodiments, the collapsible building structure comprises internal keys. In some embodiments, the collapsible building structure comprises internal latches.
[0139] The components of the collapsible building structure may comprise a plurality of frames that may be unf olding or combined when deployed to produce the building structure in a deployed format (e.g., a deployed building structure.) In some embodiments, such as described with respect to FIG. 1, the plurality of frames may comprise a floor frame that provides stability and support, a ceiling frame that encloses the upper part of the building, and a plurality of wall frames . The floor frame, ceiling frame, and wall frames of plurality of wall frames may include subparts (e.g, the floor frame and / or ceiling frame may comprise a number of frames within them that may be folded or unfolded in the case of a foldable building structure, whereas the floor frame and / or ceiling frame may comprise multiple frames that may be attached to create a larger floor frame or ceiling frame, respectively.) Even further, the plurality of wall frames may include frames that attach to the ceiling frame or floor frame. For example, the plurality of wall frames may include a first, second, third, and fourth wall frame that define the perimeter of a main living area, and may further include additional wall frames that, when deployed, create separate living areas. Additionally, internal hinges may facilitate the folding and unfolding of the frames, allowing for efficient assembly and disassembly (as described with respect to FIGs. 25A-C and 26). In some embodiments, a pin hinge 2500 may be used, as shown in FIG. 25A-C. In some embodiments, the pin hinge 2500 may comprise a pin 2510 and a sleeve 2520. The pin 2510 may be able to rotate from about 0 degrees to about 360 degrees around the axial axis of the sleeve 2520. This rotational capability may allow for versatile movement of the connected frames, facilitating the folding and unfolding actions necessary for the collapsible building structure.
[0140] In some embodiments, the degree of freedom of the pin 2510 movement may be limited by a cutout 2530 on the sleeve 2520, as shown in FIGs. 25A-25C. This configuration may ensure that the pin hinge operates within defined parameters, preventing excessive movement that may compromise the structural integrity of the connection. The cutout may be shaped to allow for specific rotational angles, providing stability while still permitting the necessary range of motion. In some embodiments, the pin 2510 may have a protrusion 2540, which may move within theWSGR Docket No. 68985-701.601 cutout 2530, allowing the pin 2510 to achieve both rotational and axial movement. This dual movement capability may enhance the flexibility of the connection, enabling the frames to be adjusted during assembly and providing a secure fit once deployed.
[0141] In some embodiments, the pin 2510 may be connected to a fixing feature 2640 installed on a first frame 2610, while the sleeve 2520 may be connected to a second frame 2630, providing a joint connection as shown in FIG. 26. In some embodiments, this configuration may allow both frames to rotate within the allowed degree of freedom determined by the configuration of the pin hinge 2500. The ability for the frames to rotate around the pin 2510 enables flexible movement, facilitating the folding and unfolding of the collapsible building structure. In some embodiments, the joint connection may enhance the overall functionality of the structure by allowing for quick adjustments during assembly and disassembly. In some embodiments, the joint connection may ensure that the frames remain securely connected while still providing the necessary range of motion for efficient setup.
[0142] As an example, as shown in FIGs. 27-29, once the frames are installed, a wall frame 2710 may rotate around hinge 2720. In some embodiments, this rotation allows the wall frame 2710 to transition between various positions, facilitating the assembly process. FIG.27 shows an example of wall frame 2710 in a first position, which is an unfolded position (i.e., deployed configuration). As shown in FIG.28, the wall frame 2710 is deployed to a secondposition. In some embodiments, the wall frame 2710 may be perpendicular to another wall frame 2810. This configuration may provide structural support and define a distinct living space within the collapsible building structure. As shown in FIG. 29, the wall frame 2710 is deployed to a third position. In some embodiments, the wall frame 2710 may be almost parallel to another wall frame 2810, creating an extended wall that combines the first wall frame 2710 and the second wall frame 2810. This configuration may enhance the overall size and functionality of the living space, allowing for greater flexibility in the layout and use of the collapsible building structure.
[0143] In some embodiments the structure may comprise windows (e.g., within one or more frames) for natural light and ventilation, as described with respect to FIGs. 27-29. In some embodiments, the windows may comprise glass or plastic. The glass may comprise options such as tempered glass. In some embodiments, the plastic may comprise materials such as polycarbonate or acrylic. In some embodiments, the structure may comprise holes within one or more frames for windows to be input upon deployment. In some embodiments, the structure may comprise doors integrated into one or more wall frames to allow for access to the structure. In some embodiments, the structure may have one or more wall frames with a hole for a door to be input upon deployment. Other features may further be included in the collapsible structure or kitWSGR Docket No. 68985-701.601 to enhance a deployed structure. For instance, roof panels may be added to the ceiling frame for weather protection and insulation, utility lines may be included for connecting to utility services such as water, electricity, gas, or any combination thereof, and insulation materials may be included enhance energy efficiency and comfort throughout the space. In some embodiments, the roof is an elevated roof (i.e., A-frame). In some embodiments, the roof is a flat roof. An optional porch or entryway may provide a sheltered outdoor area, and interior partitions may create separate rooms or areas within the structure, such as bedrooms or bathrooms. In some embodiments, the collapsible building structure comprises an attic.
[0144] The present disclosure provides systems and methods for transporting and deploying a collapsible building structure or kit, where the collapsible building structure or kit may be stored and / or transported in a container. In some embodiments, the container may comprise a storage container. In some embodiments, the container may be rectangular. In some embodiments, the container may comprise a length, a width, a height, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the length may be no longer than about forty feet. For example, in some embodiments, the plurality of frames may be connected and folded (e.g., in a collapsed position.) In those embodiments, the plurality of frames may be unfolded (e.g., deployed) to then form a standing building structure. In some embodiments, once unfolded, one or more hinges within the plurality of frames may lock into place, thereby further securing the standing building structure. In some embodiments, the plurality of frames may not be initially collected (e.g., the plurality of frames may be separated as individual frames). In those embodiments, the plurality of frames may be configured to be attached, thereby created a standing building structure. In some embodiments, the frames may be configured to be attached using latches in one or more frames of the plurality of frames. While latches are described as a way to attach frames of the plurality of frames, latches are exemplary, and other methods of attachment may be used.
[0149] In some embodiments, the plurality of frames may be in a modular configuration that may allow users to quickly set up or take down the structure as needed, providing flexibility and convenience for different living situations.
