Abstract

This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for sharing artificial intelligence (Al) model capabilities across devices. Some aspects more specifically relate to a first wireless device, which may be referred to as a remote wireless device, transmitting an indication of a capability of the remote wireless device to support at least one or more first Al models, such that a second wireless device may select the one or more first Al models or one or more second Al models (such as associated with the second wireless device) for processing of data associated with the second wireless device. In such implementations, the selection may be in accordance with an arbitration policy associated with the data, an application context associated with the data, or both.

[0032] The following description is directed to some particular examples for the purposes of describing innovative aspects of this disclosure. However, a person having ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the teachings herein can be applied in a multitude of different ways. Some or all of the described examples may be implemented in any device, system or network that is capable of transmitting and receiving radio frequency (RF) signals according to one or more of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 standards, the IEEE 802.15 standards, the  standards as defined by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) , or the Long Term Evolution (LTE) , 3G, 4G, 5G (New Radio (NR) ) or 6G standards promulgated by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) , among others.

[0033] The described examples can be implemented in any suitable device, component, system or network that is capable of transmitting and receiving RF signals according to one or more of the following technologies or techniques: code division multiple access (CDMA) , time division multiple access (TDMA) , orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA) , single-carrier FDMA (SC-FDMA) , spatial division multiple access (SDMA) , rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) , multi-user shared access (MUSA) , single-user (SU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and multi-user (MU) -MIMO (MU-MIMO) . The described examples also can be implemented using other wireless communication protocols or RF signals suitable for use in one or more of a wireless personal area network (WPAN) , a wireless local area network (WLAN) , a wireless wide area network (WWAN) , a wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) , a non-terrestrial network (NTN) , or an internet of things (IOT) network.

[0034] In some wireless communication networks, wireless devices may support using machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to process data (such as to perform inference operations) . Different wireless devices may support different AI models in accordance with their computing power, memory capability, or both. Different AI models may support different application contexts (such as scenarios, use cases) , support the same application context with different levels of accuracy, or support the  same application context with different levels of power consumption. For example, a first wireless device (such as a pair of extended reality (XR) glasses) may implement a first AI model that supports less than 1 billion parameters, while a second wireless device (such as a smartphone) may implement a second AI model that supports up to 7 billion parameters (such as in accordance with the first wireless device being associated with a lower computing power than the second wireless device) . As such, the first AI model may be unable support an application context supported by the second AI model, or may be unable to achieve a threshold level of accuracy or power consumption for the same application context as the second AI model.

[0035] Various aspects relate generally to sharing AI model capabilities across wireless devices. Some aspects more specifically relate to how a first wireless device, which may be referred to as a remote wireless device, can transmit (such as by broadcasting) an indication of a capability of the remote wireless device to support at least one or more first AI models, which may be referred to as remote AI models, to a second wireless device, which may be referred to as a local wireless device. The local wireless device may select either the one or more remote AI models or one or more local AI models associated with the local wireless device to process data associated with the local wireless device in accordance with the received capability of the remote wireless device.

[0036] For example, the local wireless device may select the one or more local AI models over the one or more remote AI models when the one or more remote AI models are unable to support certain application contexts, or if the one or more local AI models consume less power than the one or more remote AI models. Conversely, if the one or more local AI models lack application context support or the one or more remote AI models offer higher accuracy, the local wireless device may select the one or more remote AI models. An arbitration policy that indicates a preference for accuracy or power efficiency may inform the selection by the local wireless device. When the local wireless device selects the one or more remote AI models to process the data, the local wireless device may transmit a request for the remote wireless device to process the data using the one or more remote AI models. The local wireless device may receive, in response to the request, an output of the one or more remote AI models in accordance with the remote wireless device inputting the data into the one or more remote AI models.

[0037] Particular aspects of the subject matter described in this disclosure can be implemented to realize one or more of the following potential advantages. In some implementations, by receiving the indication of the capability of the remote wireless device to support at least the one or more remote AI models, the described techniques can empower the local wireless device to process data using remote AI models. These remote AI models may offer higher accuracy or support unavailable on local AI models. Additionally, the arbitration policy allows the local wireless device to determine when to prioritize power savings or prioritize  latency (such as by selecting the one or more local AI models) and when to prioritize accuracy (such as by selecting the one or more remote AI models) .

[0038] Figure 1 shows a pictorial diagram of an example wireless communication network 100. According to some aspects, the wireless communication network 100 can be an example of a wireless local area network (WLAN) such as a Wi-Fi network. For example, the wireless communication network 100 can be a network implementing at least one of the IEEE 802.11 family of wireless communication protocol standards, such as defined by the IEEE 802.11-2020 specification or amendments thereof (including, but not limited to, 802.11ay, 802.11ax (also referred to as Wi-Fi 6) , 802.11az, 802.11ba, 802.11bc, 802.11bd, 802.11be (also referred to as Wi-Fi 7) , 802.11bf, and 802.11bn (also referred to as Wi-Fi 8) ) or other WLAN or Wi-Fi standards, such as that associated with the Integrated Millimeter Wave (IMMW) study group. In some other examples, the wireless communication network 100 can be an example of a cellular radio access network (RAN) , such as a 5G or 6G RAN that implements one or more cellular protocols such as those specified in one or more 3GPP standards. In some other examples, the wireless communication network 100 can include a WLAN that functions in an interoperable or converged manner with one or more cellular RANs to provide greater or enhanced network coverage to wireless communication devices within the wireless communication network 100 or to enable such devices to connect to a cellular network’s core, such as to access the network management capabilities and functionality offered by the cellular network core. In some other examples, the wireless communication network 100 can include a WLAN that functions in an interoperable or converged manner with one or more personal area networks, such as a network implementing Bluetooth or other wireless technologies, to provide greater or enhanced network coverage or to provide or enable other capabilities, functionality, applications or services.

[0039] The wireless communication network 100 may include numerous wireless communication devices including a wireless access point (AP) 102 and any number of wireless stations (STAs) 104. While only one AP 102 is shown in Figure 1, the wireless communication network 100 can include multiple APs 102 (such as in an extended service set (ESS) deployment, enterprise network or AP mesh network) , or may not include any AP at all (such as in an independent basic service set (IBSS) such as a peer-to-peer (P2P) network or other ad hoc network) . The AP 102 can be or represent various different types of network entities including, but not limited to, a home networking AP, an enterprise-level AP, a single-frequency AP, a dual-band simultaneous (DBS) AP, a tri-band simultaneous (TBS) AP, a standalone AP, a non-standalone AP, a software-enabled AP (soft AP) , and a multi-link AP (also referred to as an AP multi-link device (MLD) ) , as well as cellular (such as 3GPP, 4G LTE, 5G or 6G) base stations or other cellular network nodes such as a Node B, an evolved Node B (eNB) , a gNB, a transmission reception point (TRP) or another type  of device or equipment included in a radio access network (RAN) , including Open-RAN (O-RAN) network entities, such as a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) or a radio unit (RU) .

[0040] Each of the STAs 104 also may be referred to as a mobile station (MS) , a mobile device, a mobile handset, a wireless handset, an access terminal (AT) , a user equipment (UE) , a subscriber station (SS) , or a subscriber unit, among other examples. The STAs 104 may represent various devices such as mobile phones, other handheld or wearable communication devices, netbooks, notebook computers, tablet computers, laptops, Chromebooks, augmented reality (AR) , virtual reality (VR) , mixed reality (MR) or XR wireless headsets or other peripheral devices, wireless earbuds, other wearable devices, display devices (such as TVs, computer monitors or video gaming consoles) , video game controllers, navigation systems, music or other audio or stereo devices, remote control devices, printers, kitchen appliances (including smart refrigerators) or other household appliances, key fobs (such as for passive keyless entry and start (PKES) systems) , Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and vehicles, among other examples.

[0041] A single AP 102 and an associated set of STAs 104 may be referred to as an infrastructure basic service set (BSS) , which is managed by the respective AP 102. Figure 1 additionally shows an example coverage area 108 of the AP 102, which may represent a basic service area (BSA) of the wireless communication network 100. The BSS may be identified by STAs 104 and other devices by a service set identifier (SSID) , as well as a basic service set identifier (BSSID) , which may be a medium access control (MAC) address of the AP 102. The AP 102 may periodically broadcast beacon frames ( “beacons” ) including the BSSID to enable any STAs 104 within wireless range of the AP 102 to “associate” or re-associate with the AP 102 to establish a respective communication link 106 (hereinafter also referred to as a “Wi-Fi link” ) , or to maintain a communication link 106, with the AP 102. For example, the beacons can include an identification or indication of a primary channel used by the respective AP 102 as well as a timing synchronization function (TSF) for establishing or maintaining timing synchronization with the AP 102. The AP 102 may provide access to external networks to various STAs 104 in the wireless communication network 100 via respective communication links 106.

[0042] To establish a communication link 106 with an AP 102, each of the STAs 104 is configured to perform passive or active scanning operations ( “scans” ) on frequency channels in one or more frequency bands (such as the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz, 45 GHz, or 60 GHz bands) . To perform passive scanning, a STA 104 listens for beacons, which are transmitted by respective APs 102 at periodic time intervals referred to as target beacon transmission times (TBTTs) . To perform active scanning, a STA 104 generates and sequentially transmits probe requests on each channel to be scanned and listens for probe responses from APs 102. Each STA 104 may identify, determine, ascertain, or select an AP 102 with which to associate in  accordance with the scanning information obtained through the passive or active scans, and to perform authentication and association operations to establish a communication link 106 with the selected AP 102. The selected AP 102 assigns an association identifier (AID) to the STA 104 at the culmination of the association operations, which the AP 102 uses to track the STA 104.

[0043] As a result of the increasing ubiquity of wireless networks, a STA 104 may have the opportunity to select one of many BSSs within range of the STA 104 or to select among multiple APs 102 that together form an ESS including multiple connected BSSs. For example, the wireless communication network 100 may be connected to a wired or wireless distribution system that may enable multiple APs 102 to be connected in such an ESS. As such, a STA 104 can be covered by more than one AP 102 and can associate with different APs 102 at different times for different transmissions. Additionally, after association with an AP 102, a STA 104 also may periodically scan its surroundings to find a more suitable AP 102 with which to associate. For example, a STA 104 that is moving relative to its associated AP 102 may perform a “roaming” scan to find another AP 102 having more desirable network characteristics such as a greater received signal strength indicator (RSSI) or a reduced traffic load.

[0044] In some implementations, STAs 104 may form networks without APs 102 or other equipment other than the STAs 104 themselves. One example of such a network is an ad hoc network (or wireless ad hoc network) . Ad hoc networks may alternatively be referred to as mesh networks or P2P networks. In some implementations, ad hoc networks may be implemented within a larger network such as the wireless communication network 100. In such examples, while the STAs 104 may be capable of communicating with each other through the AP 102 using communication links 106, STAs 104 also can communicate directly with each other via direct wireless communication links 110. Additionally, two STAs 104 may communicate via a direct wireless communication link 110 regardless of whether both STAs 104 are associated with and served by the same AP 102. In such an ad hoc system, one or more of the STAs 104 may assume the role filled by the AP 102 in a BSS. Such a STA 104 may be referred to as a group owner (GO) and may coordinate transmissions within the ad hoc network. Examples of direct wireless communication links 110 include Wi-Fi Direct connections, connections established by using a Wi-Fi Tunneled Direct Link Setup (TDLS) link, and other P2P group connections.

[0045] In some networks, the AP 102 or the STAs 104, or both, may support applications associated with high throughput or low-latency requirements, or may provide lossless audio to one or more other devices. For example, the AP 102 or the STAs 104 may support applications and use cases associated with ultra-low-latency (ULL) , such as ULL gaming, or streaming lossless audio and video to one or more personal audio devices (such as peripheral devices) or AR / VR / MR / XR headset devices. In scenarios in  which a user uses two or more peripheral devices, the AP 102 or the STAs 104 may support an extended personal audio network enabling communication with the two or more peripheral devices. Additionally, the AP 102 and STAs 104 may support additional ULL applications such as cloud-based applications (such as VR cloud gaming) that have ULL and high throughput requirements.

[0046] As indicated above, in some implementations, the AP 102 and the STAs 104 may function and communicate (via the respective communication links 106) according to one or more of the IEEE 802.11 family of wireless communication protocol standards. These standards define the WLAN radio and baseband protocols for the physical (PHY) and MAC layers. The AP 102 and STAs 104 transmit and receive wireless communications (hereinafter also referred to as “Wi-Fi communications” or “wireless packets” ) to and from one another in the form of PHY protocol data units (PPDUs) .

[0047] Each PPDU is a composite structure that includes a PHY preamble and a payload that is in the form of a PHY service data unit (PSDU) . The information provided in the preamble may be used by a receiving device to decode the subsequent data in the PSDU. In instances in which a PPDU is transmitted over a bonded or wideband channel, the preamble fields may be duplicated and transmitted in each of multiple component channels. The PHY preamble may include both a legacy portion (or “legacy preamble” ) and a non-legacy portion (or “non-legacy preamble” ) . The legacy preamble may be used for packet detection, automatic gain control and channel estimation, among other uses. The legacy preamble also may generally be used to maintain compatibility with legacy devices. The format of, coding of, and information provided in the non-legacy portion of the preamble is associated with the particular IEEE 802.11 wireless communication protocol to be used to transmit the payload.

[0048] The APs 102 and STAs 104 in the wireless communication network 100 may transmit PPDUs over an unlicensed spectrum, which may be a portion of spectrum that includes frequency bands traditionally used by Wi-Fi technology, such as the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz, 45 GHz, and 60 GHz bands. Some examples of the APs 102 and STAs 104 described herein also may communicate in other frequency bands that may support licensed or unlicensed communications. For example, the APs 102 or STAs 104, or both, also may be capable of communicating over licensed operating bands, where multiple operators may have respective licenses to operate in the same or overlapping frequency ranges. Such licensed operating bands may map to or be associated with frequency range designations of FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) .

[0049] Each of the frequency bands may include multiple sub-bands and frequency channels (also referred to as subchannels) . The terms “channel” and “subchannel” may be used interchangeably herein, as  each may refer to a portion of frequency spectrum within a frequency band (such as a 20 MHz, 40 MHz, 80 MHz, or 160 MHz portion of frequency spectrum) via which communication between two or more wireless communication devices can occur. For example, PPDUs conforming to the IEEE 802.11n, 802.11ac, 802.11ax, 802.11be and 802.11bn standard amendments may be transmitted over one or more of the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz bands, each of which is divided into multiple 20 MHz channels. As such, these PPDUs are transmitted over a physical channel having a minimum bandwidth of 20 MHz, but larger channels can be formed through channel bonding. For example, PPDUs may be transmitted over physical channels having bandwidths of 40 MHz, 80 MHz, 160 MHz, 240 MHz, 320 MHz, 480 MHz, or 640 MHz by bonding together multiple 20 MHz channels.

[0050] An AP 102 may determine or select an operating or operational bandwidth for the STAs 104 in its BSS and select a range of channels within a band to provide that operating bandwidth. For example, the AP 102 may select sixteen 20 MHz channels that collectively span an operating bandwidth of 320 MHz. Within the operating bandwidth, the AP 102 may typically select a single primary 20 MHz channel on which the AP 102 and the STAs 104 in its BSS monitor for contention-based access schemes. In some implementations, the AP 102 or the STAs 104 may be capable of monitoring only a single primary 20 MHz channel for packet detection (such as for detecting preambles of PPDUs) . Conventionally, any transmission by an AP 102 or a STA 104 within a BSS must involve transmission on the primary 20 MHz channel. As such, in conventional systems, the transmitting device must contend on and win a TXOP on the primary channel to transmit anything at all. However, some APs 102 and STAs 104 supporting ultra-high reliability (UHR) communications or communication according to the IEEE 802.11bn standard amendment can be configured to operate, monitor, contend and communicate using multiple primary 20 MHz channels. Such monitoring of multiple primary 20 MHz channels may be sequential such that responsive to determining, ascertaining or detecting that a first primary 20 MHz channel is not available, a wireless communication device may switch to monitoring and contending using a second primary 20 MHz channel. Additionally, or alternatively, a wireless communication device may be configured to monitor multiple primary 20 MHz channels in parallel. In some implementations, a first primary 20 MHz channel may be referred to as a main primary (M-Primary) channel and one or more additional, second primary channels may each be referred to as an opportunistic primary (O-Primary) channel. For example, if a wireless communication device measures, identifies, ascertains, detects, or otherwise determines that the M-Primary channel is busy or occupied (such as due to an overlapping BSS (OBSS) transmission) , the wireless communication device may switch to monitoring and contending on an O-Primary channel. In some implementations, the M-Primary channel may be used for beaconing and serving legacy client devices and an O-Primary channel  may be specifically used by non-legacy (such as UHR-or IEEE 802.11bn-compatible) devices for opportunistic access to spectrum that may be otherwise under-utilized.

[0051] Figure 2 shows a pictorial diagram of another example wireless communication network 200. According to some aspects, the wireless communication network 200 can be an example of a mesh network, an IoT network, or a sensor network in accordance with one or more of the IEEE 802.11 family of wireless communication protocol standards (including the 802.11ah amendment) . The wireless communication network 200 may include multiple wireless communication devices 214, which in some implementations may include APs 102, STAs 104, or both. The wireless communication devices 214 may represent various devices such as display devices (such as TVs, computer monitors, navigation systems, among others) , music or other audio or stereo devices, remote control devices ( “remotes” ) , printers, kitchen or other household appliances, among other examples.

[0052] In some implementations, the wireless communication devices 214 sense, measure, collect or otherwise obtain and process data and transmit such raw or processed data to an intermediate device 212 for subsequent processing or distribution. Additionally, or alternatively, the intermediate device 212 may transmit control information, digital content (such as audio or video data) , configuration information or other instructions to the wireless communication devices 214. The intermediate device 212 and the wireless communication devices 214 can communicate with one another via wireless communication links 216. In some implementations, the wireless communication links 216 include Bluetooth links or other PAN or short-range communication links.

[0053] In some implementations, the intermediate device 212 also may be configured for wireless communication with other networks such as with a WLAN or a wireless (such as cellular) wide area network (WWAN) , which may, in turn, provide access to external networks including the Internet. For example, the intermediate device 212 may associate and communicate, over a Wi-Fi link 218, with an AP 102 of a wireless communication network 200, which also may serve various STAs 104. In some implementations, the intermediate device 212 is an example of a network gateway, for example, an IoT gateway. In such a manner, the intermediate device 212 may serve as an edge network bridge providing a Wi-Fi core backhaul for the IoT network including the wireless communication devices 214. In some implementations, the intermediate device 212 can analyze, preprocess and aggregate data received from the wireless communication devices 214 locally at the edge before transmitting it to other devices or external networks via the Wi-Fi link 218. The intermediate device 212 also can provide additional security for the IoT network and the data it transports.

[0054] Aspects of transmissions may vary according to a distance between a transmitter (such as an AP 102 or a STA 104) and a receiver (such as another AP 102 or STA 104) . Wireless communication devices (such as the AP 102 or the STA 104) may generally benefit from having information regarding the location or proximities of the various STAs 104 within the coverage area. In some implementations, relevant distances may be determined (such as calculated or computed) using RTT-based ranging procedures. Additionally, in some implementations, APs 102 and STAs 104 may perform ranging operations. Each ranging operation may involve an exchange of fine timing measurement (FTM) frames (such as those defined in the 802.11az amendment to the IEEE family of wireless communication protocol standards) to obtain measurements of RTT transmissions between the wireless communication devices.

[0055] An example AI / ML model may include mathematical representations or define computing capabilities for making inferences from input data in accordance with patterns or relationships identified in the input data. As used herein, the term “inferences” can include one or more of decisions, predictions, determinations, or values, which may represent outputs of the AI / ML model. The computing capabilities may be defined in terms of certain parameters of the AI / ML model, such as weights and biases. Weights may indicate relationships between certain input data and certain outputs of the AI / ML model, and biases are offsets that may indicate a starting point for outputs of the AI / ML model. An example AI / ML model operating on input data may start at an initial output in accordance with the biases and update the output in accordance with a combination of the input data and the weights.

[0056] STAs or APs (such as a STA 104 or an AP 102) may exchange local observations with other wireless communication devices (such as other STAs or APs) or provide feedback related to the communication. This may significantly expand the types of input data that can be considered as input to an AI / ML model, as such information may not otherwise be available at the other wireless communication devices. For example, information received from other STAs or APs may include observed RSSI values, experienced packet success / failure / retry rates per client / AP, BSS / Quality of Service (QoS) load / requirements, or a history of bad / good AP link (s) , which may be conveyed in terms of scores or rankings.

[0057] AI / ML models can be centralized, distributed, or federated. As both STAs 104 and APs 102 can participate in AI / ML based operations, efficient AI / ML model distribution may enhance the performance of a wireless communication system. In some examples supporting centralized AI / ML models, STAs 104 may provide training data to a centralized network location (such as an AP, AP MLD, or a server) where a global AI / ML model may be generated and refined. The centralized network location may distribute the global AI / ML model to various STAs. In some implementations, global AI / ML models may train a single  classifier in accordance with all training data received from various inputs / sources. In some examples supporting distributed learning or distributed models, both APs and STAs may be independently capable of computing AI / ML models and sharing data with other participating wireless communication devices in the wireless communication network such that each device can train the global AI / ML model locally. In some examples supporting a federated learning or hybrid AI / ML model, substantially all participating wireless communication devices (such as APs 102 and STAs 104) may be capable of generating local AI / ML models and sharing their local models to a centralized network location or entity. In turn, the centralized network entity may generate a global AI / ML model using the received local models as input and distribute the global model to all or a subset of the participating wireless communication devices.

[0058] In some implementations, AI / ML models may be downloadable. For example, an AP may share AI / ML model components with associated STAs or other friendly / coordinating APs. STAs may download the AI / ML model and use the model for making decisions related to wireless communications. The downloading of an AI / ML model may be independent from signaling the inputs to the AI / ML model (such as some wireless communication devices may download the AI / ML model without exchanging information with other wireless communication devices; some wireless communication devices may exchange information and use such information as an input to the AI / ML model without downloading it; and some wireless communication devices may download the AI / ML model and exchange information or the AI / ML model with other wireless communication devices) .

[0059] In some examples, the wireless communication devices of the wireless communication network 100 (and the wireless communication devices of the wireless communication network 200) may support sharing of AI model capabilities across the wireless communication devices. For example, a first STA 104 (such as a first wireless communication device 214) , such as an XR headset, may support one or more first AI models and a second STA 104 (such as a second communication device 214) , such as a mobile phone, may support one or more second AI models. In some examples, the XR headset may be associated with a lower computing power than the mobile phone, such that the one or more first AI models may be associated with a lower accuracy and a lower power consumption than the one or more second AI models. Additionally, or alternatively, the one or more first AI models may be unable to support certain application contexts supported by the one or more second AI models. As such, in some implementations, the XR headset may select either the one or more first AI models or the one or more second AI models for processing of data based on an application context associated with the data, an arbitration policy that indicates either a preference for accuracy or a preference for power savings, or both.

[0060] For example, in some implementations, the XR headset may select the one or more first AI models based on the one or more first AI models supporting the application context associated with the data and the one or more second AI models being unable to support the application context. Conversely, the XR headset may select the one or more second AI models based on the one or more second AI models supporting the application context associated with the data and the one or more first AI models being unable to support the application context. In some other implementations, when both the one or more first AI models and the one or more second AI models support the application context associated with the data, the XR headset may select the one or more first AI models or the one or more second AI models based on the arbitration policy that indicates either the preference for accuracy or the preference for power savings. For example, the XR headset may select the one or more first AI models based on the arbitration policy indicating the preference for power savings and may select the one or more second AI models based on the arbitration policy indicating the preference for accuracy. In any implementation, when the XR headset selects the one or more second AI models to process the data, the XR headset may transmit a request for the mobile phone to process the data using the one or more second AI models and may receive, in response to the request, an output of the one or more second AI models in accordance with the mobile phone inputting the data into the one or more second AI models.

[0061] Figure 3 shows an example of a device architecture 300 that supports sharing AI model capabilities across devices. In some implementations, the architecture 300 may implement or be implemented by aspects of the example wireless communication network 100, the example wireless communication network 200, or both. For example, the architecture 300 may be implemented by an STA 104, as described with reference to Figure 1, or a wireless communication device 214, as described with reference to Figure 2.

[0062] Some wireless communications systems may support multiple wireless devices (such as per person) , such as smartphones, laptops, smart watches, headphones, automotive devices, speakers, televisions, and the like thereof. In some implementations, the multiple wireless devices may support processing of data (such as performing inference operations in accordance with the data) using one or more AI models. In such implementations, different wireless devices may support (such as be associated with) different computing capabilities (such as level of computing) , different memory capabilities (such as level of memory) , or both, such that the different wireless devices support different AI model capabilities (such as AI model inference capabilities) . For example, a first wireless device, such as a pair of XR glasses, headphones, or a speaker, may support one or more first AI models associated with fewer than 1 billion parameters (such as local computing for fewer than 1 billion large language model (LLM) parameters or equivalent computing power for other types of AI models) , a second wireless device, such as a smart watch  or a television, may support one or more second AI models associated with up to 1 billion parameters (such as local computing for 1 billion parameters per AI model) , a third wireless device, such as a smartphone, a laptop, or an automotive device, may support one or more third AI models associated with up to 7 billion parameters (such as local computing for up to 7 billion parameters per AI model) , and a fourth wireless device, such as a cloud or fog offload device, may support one or more fourth AI models associated with more than 10 billion parameters (such as local computing for up to 10 billion parameters per AI model) .

[0063] Thus, in some implementations, a wireless device, such as the first wireless, may not be capable of supporting at least the one or more third AI models and the one or more fourth AI models. That is, the first wireless device may be associated with a lower computing power (such as computing power capability) than the second wireless device, the third wireless device, and the fourth wireless device, such that the first wireless device may not be capable of locally running (such as using, supporting) an AI model associated with more than 1 billion parameters. Thus, the first wireless device may be associated with a lower AI inference accuracy (such as accuracy of the one or more first AI models) compared to at least the third wireless device and the fourth wireless device. As such, the first wireless device may be unable to achieve a threshold level of accuracy using the one or more first AI models, may not support some AI models (such as may not support one or more AI models to perform classification, prediction, clustering, generative, or other AI tasks) , or both.

[0064] Accordingly, various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to sharing AI model capabilities across wireless devices. Some aspects more specifically relate to reception, by a first wireless device, which may be referred to as a local wireless device (such as a UE) , of an indication of a capability of a second wireless device, which may be referred to as a remote wireless device (such as another UE) , to support one or more first AI models (such as remote AI models) such that the local wireless device may select either at least a subset of the one or more remote AI models or at least a subset of one or more second AI models (such as local AI models) associated with the local wireless device for processing data associated with the local wireless device.

[0065] In such implementations, to enable the sharing of AI model capabilities, both the local wireless device and the remote wireless device may each support at least a subset of the device architecture 300, as depicted in Figure 3. At an application layer 302, the device architecture 300 may include an AI capability scanner 304, an AI capability advertiser 306 and one or more AI applications 310 (such as associated with one or more AI models) . At an operating system (OS) layer 312, the device architecture 300 may include Bluetooth frameworks 314, a Bluetooth protocol stack 316, a Bluetooth driver 318, an AI core 320, a model manager 322, model storage 324, an arbitrator 326, a local AI service provider 328, a remote AI service  provider 330, an AI engine 332 (such as AI runtime) , AI engine libraries 334, Wi-Fi frameworks 336, a TCIP / IP protocol stack 338, and a Wi-Fi device driver 340. At a hardware layer 342, the device architecture 300 may include a Bluetooth chip 344, a central processing unit (CPU) 346, a graphics processing unit (GPU) 348, a hexagon tensor processer (HTP) 350, a codec digital signal processor (CDSP) 352, a hexagon tensor accelerator (HTA) 354, and a Wi-Fi chip 356. The depiction and corresponding description of the device architecture 300 is not to be regarded as a limitation of the present disclosure. Some components may be omitted from the device architecture 300, and other components may be added to the device architecture 300.

[0066] In some implementations, the AI capability scanner 304, the AI capability advertiser 306, the arbitrator 326, the model manager 322, and the remote AI service provider may enable the sharing of AI model capabilities across wireless devices. as described further with reference to Figure 4.

[0067] Figure 4 shows an example of device architectures 400 (such as a device architecture 400-aand a device architecture 400-b) that support sharing AI model capabilities across devices. In some implementations, the architectures 400 may implement or be implemented by aspects of the example wireless communication network 100, the example wireless communication network 200, the device architecture 300, or any combination thereof. For example, each of the device architecture 400-aand the device architecture 400-b may be implemented by an STA 104, as described with reference to Figure 1, or a wireless communication device 214, as described with reference to Figure 2.

[0068] For example, in some implementations, as depicted in Figure 4 (such as at 1) , an AI capability advertiser 406-R (such as associated with the remote wireless device) may query a model manager 422-R (such as associated with the remote wireless device) for an AI model support capability of the remote wireless device (such as capability to support the one or more remote AI models) . The model manager 422-R may manage the one or more AI models supported by the remote wireless device and may prove an application program interface (API) to the AI capability advertiser. Additionally, the AI capability advertiser 406-R may broadcast an indication (such as a capability message indicative of) of the AI model support capability of the remote wireless device (such as capability to support the one or more remote AI models, AI model inference capabilities) . As such (such as at 2) , an AI capability scanner 404-L associated with the local wireless device may scan (such as monitor, listen) for the broadcast indication and may receive the broadcast indication from the remote wireless device. In some other implementations (such as not depicted) , the AI capability scanner 404-L may query (such as transmit a query message, may actively query) the remote wireless device for the AI model support capability of the remote wireless device, such that the remote wireless device may transmit the indication of the AI model support capability of the remote  wireless device to the local wireless device in accordance with the query. In either implementation, monitoring for and reception of the indication may be in accordance with the the remote wireless device being within a threshold proximity of the local wireless device (such as the local wireless devices scans or queries nearby wireless devices) .

[0069] In such implementations, the indication may include AI model capability exchange information (such as AI model support capability information) , where the AI model capability exchange information includes information associated with the one or more remote AI models (such as supported by the remote wireless device) , an indication of a remote access method associated with the remote wireless device (such as one or more remote AI models) , or both. The information associated with the one or more remote AI models may include one or more of a name of each of the one or more remote AI models, one or more application contexts (such as scenarios, use cases) associated with each of the one or more remote AI models, one or more input parameters associated with each of the one or more remote AI models, one or more output parameters associated with each of the one or more remote AI models, and one or more performance metrics associated with each of the one or more remote AI models. Additionally, or alternatively, the indication of the remote access method may include one or more of an internet protocol (IP) address associated with the remote wireless device, a port number associated with the remote wireless device, and a data transport category.

[0070] As such, the AI capability scanner 404-L may update (such as at 3) the AI model support capability of the remote wireless device (such as and a remote access set-up method) at a remote AI service provide 430-L associated with the local wireless device. In some implementations (such as at 4) , an AI application 410-L associated with the local wireless device may initiate an AI model inference request via an arbitrator 426-L (such as associated with the local wireless device) . In other words, the AI model inference request may be (such as may include) a request to process data associated with the AI application 410-L. Thus, the arbitrator 426-L may select either a local AI service provider 428-L (such as associated with the local wireless device, not depicted) or a remote AI service provider 430-R (such as associated with the remote wireless device) to implement AI inferences according to one or more arbitration policies, one or more application scenarios (such as application context) , or both (e. g. associated with the data) . That is, the arbitrator 426-L may select either at least a subset of the one or more local AI models (such as the local AI service provider 428-L) or at least a subset of the one or more remote AI models (e. g. the remote AI service provider 430-R) to process the data associated with the AI application 410-L (e. g. proximate device AI model capabilities awareness + application context = AI model selection) .

[0071] In some implementations, the one or more arbitration policies may indicate a preference for accuracy or a preference for power savings. For example, in some implementations, when both the one or more remote AI models and the one or more local AI models support the one or more application scenarios (such as current AI use-case for the AI application 410-L) , if the one or more arbitration policies indicates a preference for accuracy, the arbitrator 426-L may select a higher computing power device out of the local wireless device and the remote wireless device. For example, the remote wireless device may be associated with a higher computing power (such as as compared to the local wireless device) and, thus, a higher accuracy (such as associated with the one or more remote AI models) , such that the arbitrator 426-L may select the remote AI service provider 430-R (such as associated with the remote wireless device) to implement the AI inferences. Conversely, if the one or more arbitration policies indicates a preference for power saving, the arbitrator 426-L may select a lower computing power device out of the local wireless device and the remote wireless device. For example, the local wireless device may be associated with a lower computing power (such as as compared to the remote wireless device) and, thus, a lower power consumption (such as associated with the one or more local AI models) , such that the arbitrator 426-L may select the remote AI service provider 430-L (such as associated with the local wireless device) to implement the AI inferences.

[0072] In some implementations, when the one or more remote AI models supported by the remote wireless device are capable of supporting the one or more application scenarios and the one or more local AI models supported by the local wireless device lack a capability to support the one or more application scenarios (such as only the remote wireless device supports the one or more application scenarios and no other nearby devices support the one or more application scenarios) , the arbitrator 426-L may select the remote AI service provider 430-R (such as associated with the remote wireless device) to implement the AI inferences (such as regardless of the one or more arbitration policies) . Conversely, when the one or more local AI models supported by the local wireless device are capable of supporting the one or more application scenarios and the one or more remote AI models supported by the remote wireless device lack a capability to support the one or more application scenarios (such as only the local wireless device supports the one or more application scenarios and no other nearby devices support the one or more application scenarios) , the arbitrator 426-L may select the remote AI service provider 430-L (such as associated with the local wireless device) to implement the AI inferences (such as regardless of the one or more arbitration policies) .

[0073] In some other examples, when multiple remote wireless devices support the one or more application scenarios (such as multiple remote AI models supported by the multiple remote wireless devices support the one or more application scenarios, if the one or more arbitration policies indicates a preference for accuracy, the arbitrator 426-L may select a remote wireless device, from the multiple remote wireless  devices, associated with a highest accuracy (such as highest accuracy AI model) out of the multiple remote wireless devices. Conversely, if the one or more arbitration policies indicates a preference for power savings, the arbitrator 426-L may select a remote wireless device, from the multiple remote wireless devices, associated with a lowest accuracy (such as lowest accuracy AI model) out of the multiple remote wireless devices, and thus a lowest power consumption out of the multiple remote wireless devices.

[0074] In some implementations (not depicted in Figure 4) , the arbitrator 426-L may select at least the subset of the one or more local AI models to process the data (such as select the local AI service provider 428-L to perform the AI inferences) . In some other implementations (such as depicted in Figure 4) , the the arbitrator 426-L may select at least the subset of the one or more remote AI models for processing of the data (such as select the remote AI service provider 430-R to perform the AI inferences) . In such implementations (e. g. at 5) , the arbitrator 426-L may communicate (such as transmit) a request (such as remote inference request) to the remote AI service provider 430-L to process the data (such as associated with the local wireless device) using at least the subset of the one or more remote AI models (such as selected by the local wireless device) . Thus (such as at 6) , the remote AI service provider 430-L may set-up one or more remote transport channels (such as data transport channels) with a remote AI service provide 430-R associated with the remote wireless device (such as set-up the one or more remote transport channel between the local wireless device and the remote wireless device) . In such implementations, the one or more remote transport channels may be associated with one or more channel types including one or more of Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi peer-to-peer (P2P) , Wi-Fi AP, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Remote Network Driver Interface Specification (RNDIS) LTE device-to-device (D2D) , or the like thereof.

[0075] The remote AI service provider 430-L may transmit (such as at 6) , to the remote wireless device via the remote AI service provider 430-R, a request (such as remote inference request) for the remote wireless device to process the data (such as associated with the local wireless device) using at least the subset of the one or more remote AI models (such as selected by the local wireless device) . The request may additionally indicate the data to be processed. Thus, the remote AI service provider-R (such as at the remote wireless device) may call (such as at 7) an AI engine 432-R associated with the remote wireless device to complete the request. That is, the remote wireless device (such as the AI engine 432-R) may input the data associated with the local wireless device into at least the subset of the one or more remote AI models to generate an inference result (such as one or more outputs) . The remote AI engine 432 may communicate (such as at 8) the inference result to the remote AI service provider 430-R for transmission to the remote AI service provider 430-L (such as at 9 via the remote transport channel) . Additionally, the remote AI service provider 430-L may communicate (such as at 10) the inference result to the AI application 410 (such as associated with the data) .

[0076] In some implementations, the AI capability advertiser 406-R, the AI capability scanner 404-L, or both, may be offloaded to a respective lower power island (LPI) , such as an audio digital signal processor (ADSP) or sensor digital signal processor (SDSP) to save power, increase a speed of scanning (such as by caching) , or both. Additionally, or alternatively, the local wireless device and the remote wireless device may act as a single physical entity during sharing of AI model capabilities across devices.

[0077] Figure 5 shows an example of a process flow 500 that supports sharing AI model capabilities across devices. In some implementations, the process flow 400 may implement or be implemented by aspects of the example wireless communication network 100, the example wireless communication network 200, the architecture 300, the architectures 400, or any combination thereof. For example, the process flow 500 may include one or more STAs 104 (such as an STA 104-a, an STA 104-b, and an STA 104-c) , which may be examples of corresponding devices as described herein, including with reference to Figure 1. In the following description of the process flow 500, the operations between the one or more wireless communications devices 214 may be communicated in a different order than the example order shown, or the operations performed by the one or more wireless communications devices 214 may be performed in different orders or at different times. Some operations also may be omitted from the process flow 500, and other operations may be added to the process flow 500.

[0078] In some implementations, at 505, the STA 104-a (such as XR glasses) may monitor (such as scan) a first wireless channel (such as a remote transport channel) for a broadcast message including an indication of a capability of the STA 104-b (such as a laptop) to support at least one or more second AI models (such as one or more remote AI models) that are different than at least one or more first AI models supported by the STA 104-a (such as one or more local AI models) . In such implementations, the STA 104-b may be within a threshold proximity of the STA 104-a, such that the monitoring may be proximity-aware monitoring (such as proximity-aware AI model capability scanning) .

[0079] Additionally, or alternatively, at 510, the STA 104-a may transmit, to the STA 104-b, a query message requesting the indication of the capability of the STA 104-b to support at least the one or more second AI models.

[0080] Thus, at 515, the STA 104-a may receive the indication of the capability of the STA 104-b to support at least the one or more second AI models in accordance with the monitoring, the query message, or both. In such implementations, the indication of the capability may further include one or more of information associated with the one or more second AI models, an indication of a remote access method of the STA 104-b, or both. The information associated with the one or more second AI models may include one or more of a name of each of the one or more second AI models, one or more application scenarios  associated with each of the one or more second AI models, one or more input parameters associated with each of the one or more second AI models, one or more output parameters associated with each of the one or more second AI models, or one or more performance metrics associated with each of the one or more second AI models. The indication of the remote access method may include an IP address associated with the STA 104-b, a port number associated with the STA 104-b, a data transport category, or any combination thereof.

[0081] In some implementations, at 520, the STA 104-a may additionally receive, from the STA 104-c (such as a smartphone) , a second indication of a capability of the STA 104-c to support at least one or more third AI models (such as one or more second remote AI models) , where the one or more third AI models are different than at least the one or more first AI models, the one or more second AI models, or both. In such implementations, the STA 104-c may be within a threshold proximity of the STA 104-a.

[0082] At 525, the STA 104-a may transmit, to the STA 104-b, a request for the STA 104-b to process data using the one or more second AI models in accordance with the STA 104-b being within the threshold proximity of the STA 104-a (such as a physical proximity of the STA 104-b to the STA 104-a) and a selection of the one or more second AI models over the one or more first AI models in accordance with an arbitration policy associated with the data (such as associated with an application) , an application context (such as scenario, use case) associated with the data (such as associated with the application) , or both. For example, in some implementations, the arbitration policy may indicate a preference for accuracy and the one or more second AI models may be associated with a higher accuracy than the one or more first AI models. In such implementations, the one or more second AI models may be associated with the higher accuracy than the one or more first AI models in accordance with a difference in computing power between the STA 104-a and the STA 104-b. That is, the STA 104-b may be associated with a higher computing power than the STA 104-a. Additionally, or alternatively, transmission of the request may be in accordance with a lack of capability of the one or more first AI models to support the application context associated with the data.

[0083] For example, a user may speak “open camera and take a picture” while wearing the STA 104-a (such as the XR glasses) such that, after the picture has been taken, a camera application in the STA 104-a may request to use a first AI model (such as CV model 1) running on the STA 104-b to post-process the picture.

[0084] In some implementations, at 530, the STA 104-b may input the data into the one or more second AI models to generate one or more outputs (such as an AI inference result) in accordance with the request. For example, the STA 104-b may post-process the picture.

[0085] Thus, in some implementations, at 535, the STA 104-a may receive, from the STA 104-b in accordance with the request, a third indication of the one or more outputs of the one or more second AI  models (such as via a second wireless channel that is the same as or different than the first wireless channel) . For example, the STA 104-b may transmit a post-processed result of the first AI model (such as CV model1) to the STA 104-b.
