Ultrasound diagnosis apparatus

In a medical ultrasound diagnosis apparatus, a spatial position and orientation of a probe which transmits and receives an ultrasound are measured as coordinate data. Received data and measured data are correlated and stored in a storage unit. When received data is read from the storage unit, the coordinate data correlated to the received data is also read. When an ultrasound image based on the received data is replayed and displayed, a reference image based on the coordinate data is also displayed along with the ultrasound image. The reference image contains a body mark and a probe mark. A diagnosis situation during when the received data is obtained is schematically re-created by the reference image. That is, the diagnosed part and diagnosis direction are represented by a position and an orientation of the probe mark on the body mark.

Calibration of an adaptive signal conditioning system

The invention provides robust and non-invasive calibration of an adaptive signal conditioning system having a signal conditioning block in the signal path to a signal conversion system, and a feedback path with a number of feedback components for enabling adaptation, by means of a parameter adaptation block, of the parameters used in the signal conditioning. In order to calibrate the feedback path, a well-defined reference signal is inserted into the feedback path, and an appropriate calibration coefficient is then determined by a coefficient calibrator in response to the received reference signal. The calibration coefficient is provided to a compensator, which effectively compensates for changes in the transfer characteristics of the feedback path due to factors such as variations in ambient temperature and component aging. Accordingly, the feedback signal transferred over the calibrated feedback path will be an accurate representation of the output signal of the signal conversion system, thus allowing accurate adaptive signal conditioning.

Test circuit capable of testing embedded memory with reliability

A test signal applied to an embedded memory is changed in synchronization with a test clock signal, set to an invalidated state by an asynchronous control signal asynchronous to the test clock signal and then is applied to a memory. The memory takes in a received signal in synchronization with a memory clock signal. An invalid data generating circuit modifies the test signal in accordance with the asynchronous control signal and generates a test signal and to apply the test signal to the memory. A period of an invalid state of the modified test signal can be adjusted and therefore, by monitoring a changing timing of the asynchronous control signal PTX with an external tester, setup and hold times of a signal for the memory can be measured. Apparatus and method for evaluating the physical properties of a sample using ultrasonics

A method is disclosed for evaluating the physical properties of a sample, for example, the grain size in a polycrystalline material. An ultrasound field is generated in a local region of the sample with a non-contact source, such as a pulsed laser, such that the generated ultrasound diffuses away from said local region. After waiting until the generated ultrasound field has reached a diffusion regime, the resulting ultrasound field is measured with a non-contact detector. Parameters are adjusted in a mathematical model describing the predicted behaviour of the ultrasound field in the diffusion regime to fit the detected ultrasound field to the mathematical model. In this way, parameters dependent on the physical properties of the sample, such as the diffusion coefficient and absorption coefficient, can be derived. The grain size, for example, can be estimated from these parameters preferably by calibrating the diffusion coefficient to grain size.
