Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to compositions for cleansing hair. The present invention also relates to methods for cleansing hair. Background Art
[0002] Desquamative conditions of the scalp, such as dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, are associated with the presence of a characteristic yeast called Malassezia ovale, formerly known as Pityrosporum (P. ovale and P. orbiculare).
[0003] Furthermore, it is known that this yeast is able to change its shape and metabolism. In particular, it can change into a filamentous form (Malassezia furfur), which is responsible for the inflammatory and pigmentary disorder known as pityriasis versicolor.
[0004] Common treatments for all of these diseases involve the use of antifungal agents in a vehicle such as a shampoo, gel or lotion that is suitable for distributing these agents and depositing them on the integument.
[0005] The antifungal activity of these agents is limited; moreover, the persistence of the antifungal activity is low. Therefore, treatment with these antifungal agents has very mediocre or even low efficacy.
[0006] It is known that piroctone olamine is a strong anti-dandruff active, and lactic acid and salicylic acid have strong exfoliating effects. However, piroctone olamine is very difficult to dissolve in a low pH system.
[0007] As a commercial product, it is desirable that the product be stable over time.
[0008] Therefore, there is a need in the art to develop products for cleansing the scalp that are effective in combating dandruff and that are stable over time. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0018] According to a second aspect, the present invention provides a method for cleansing hair comprising applying to the hair a composition as described above and subsequently rinsing the hair with water after any exposure period.
[0019] The inventors have found that the composition according to the invention is effective with respect to (anti-)dandruff and is stable over time.
[0020] Other objects and features, aspects and advantages of the invention will appear even more clearly on reading the detailed description and examples which follow. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
