[0076] Figure 1The following is a plan view of a communication device 100 according to an embodiment of the present invention. For example, the communication device 100 can be applied to a smart phone, a tablet computer, or a notebook computer, but is not limited thereto. Figure 1 In the embodiment, the communication device 100 includes at least: a metal mechanism element 110, a loop radiation element 130, a first radiation element 140, and a second radiation element 150, wherein the loop radiation element 130, the first radiation element 140, and the second radiation element 150 can all be made of metal materials, such as copper, silver, aluminum, iron, or alloys thereof.
[0077] For example, the metal component 110 may be a metal housing, but is not limited thereto. A slot 120 may be formed within the metal component 110, wherein the slot 120 of the metal component 110 may be substantially in the shape of a straight strip. Specifically, the slot 120 may be a closed slot having a first closed end 121 and a second closed end 122 that are spaced apart from each other. In some embodiments, the communication device 100 may further include a non-conductive material (not shown) that may be filled in the slot 120 of the metal component 110 to achieve waterproof or dustproof functionality.
[0078] The cyclic radiation portion 130 is coupled to the metal structure 110, wherein the first radiation portion 140 and the second radiation portion 150 can both be disposed within the cyclic radiation portion 130. That is, the first radiation portion 140 and the second radiation portion 150 can both be completely surrounded by the cyclic radiation portion 130. In some embodiments, the cyclic radiation portion 130 can be substantially in the form of a hollow rectangle. In other embodiments, the cyclic radiation portion 130 can also be substantially in the form of a hollow circle, a hollow square, or a hollow trapezoid, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
[0079] The first radiating portion 140 has a first end 141 and a second end 142, wherein the first end 141 of the first radiating portion 140 is coupled to a first connection point CP1 on the cyclic radiating portion 130, and a feeding point FP is located at the second end 142 of the first radiating portion 140. The feeding point FP can also be coupled to a positive electrode of a signal source 190, and a negative electrode of the signal source 190 can be coupled to a ground point GP on the cyclic radiating portion 130. For example, the signal source 190 can be a radio frequency (RF) module. In addition, the ground point GP can also be coupled to a ground voltage VSS. In some embodiments, the first radiating portion 140 can be roughly L-shaped with unequal widths. In other embodiments, the first radiating portion 140 may also be substantially in a T-shape, an I-shape, or a meandering shape, but is not limited thereto.
[0080] In some embodiments, the cyclic radiating portion 130 may be further divided into a longer portion 134 and a shorter portion 135. For example, the longer portion 134 of the cyclic radiating portion 130 may correspond to a longer path (i.e., a left path) from the first connection point CP1 to the ground point GP, and the shorter portion 135 of the cyclic radiating portion 130 may correspond to a shorter path (i.e., a right path) from the first connection point CP1 to the ground point GP, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
[0081] The second radiating portion 150 has a first end 151 and a second end 152, wherein the first end 151 of the second radiating portion 150 is coupled to a second connection point CP2 on the circular radiating portion 130, and the second end 152 of the second radiating portion 150 is an open end. The second connection point CP2 may be different from the first connection point CP1 described above, but the two may be adjacent to each other. For example, the second end 152 of the second radiating portion 150 and the second end 142 of the first radiating portion 140 may extend in substantially opposite directions and away from each other. In some embodiments, the second radiating portion 150 may be substantially in the shape of an inverted L of unequal width. In other embodiments, the second radiating portion 150 may be substantially in the shape of another T, another I, or another serpentine shape, but is not limited thereto.
[0082] In a preferred embodiment, the metal structure 110 and its slot 120, the loop radiating portion 130, the first radiating portion 140, and the second radiating portion 150 may collectively form an antenna structure of the communication device 100. For example, the antenna structure may be a planar antenna structure or a three-dimensional antenna structure, but is not limited thereto.
[0083] Figure 2 A graph showing the return loss of the antenna structure of the communication device 100 according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown, wherein the horizontal axis represents the operating frequency (MHz) and the vertical axis represents the return loss (dB). Figure 2 Based on the measurement results, the antenna structure of communication device 100 can cover a first frequency band (FB1), a second frequency band (FB2), and a third frequency band (FB3). For example, the first frequency band (FB1) can be between 2400MHz and 2500MHz, the second frequency band (FB2) can be between 5000MHz and 6500MHz, and the third frequency band (FB3) can be between 6500MHz and 7125MHz. Therefore, the antenna structure of communication device 100 can at least support broadband operations for traditional WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and the next-generation Wi-Fi 6E.
[0084] In some embodiments, the operating principle of the antenna structure of the communication device 100 may be described as follows. The slot 120 of the metal component 110 can excite a fundamental resonant mode to generate the aforementioned first frequency band FB1. The longer portion 134 of the cyclic radiating portion 130 and the first radiating portion 140 can jointly excite the aforementioned second frequency band FB2. The slot 120 of the metal component 110 can also excite a higher-order resonant mode to increase the bandwidth of the aforementioned second frequency band FB2. The shorter portion 135 of the cyclic radiating portion 130 and the first radiating portion 140 can jointly excite the aforementioned third frequency band FB3. According to actual measurement results, the addition of the second radiating portion 150 can also provide additional current paths for the aforementioned second frequency band FB2 and third frequency band FB3, thereby increasing the operational bandwidth of the antenna structure of the communication device 100.
[0085] Figure 3 The return loss diagram of the antenna structure of the communication device 100 is shown when the metal structure 110 does not have the slot 120. Figure 3According to the measurement results, if the slot 120 is removed from the metal structure 110 (ie, the metal structure 110 has a complete shape), the antenna structure of the communication device 100 will have difficulty covering the aforementioned first frequency band FB1.
[0086] In some embodiments, the dimensions of the components of the communication device 100 may be as follows. The length LS of the slot 120 of the metal component 110 may be approximately equal to 0.5 times the wavelength (λ / 2) of the first frequency band FB1 of the antenna structure of the communication device 100. The width WS of the slot 120 of the metal component 110 may be between 3 mm and 5 mm. The total length L1 of the first radiating portion 140 and the longer portion 134 of the looped radiating portion 130 may be between 0.25 and 0.75 times the wavelength (λ / 4 to 3λ / 4) of the second frequency band FB2 of the antenna structure of the communication device 100, for example, approximately 0.5 times the wavelength (λ / 2). The total length L2 of the first radiating portion 140 and the shorter portion 135 of the looped radiating portion 130 may be between 0.25 and 0.75 times the wavelength (λ / 4 to 3λ / 4) of the third frequency band FB3 of the antenna structure of the communication device 100, for example, approximately 0.5 times the wavelength (λ / 2). The width W1 of the first radiating portion 140 may be between 3 mm and 5 mm. The length L3 of the second radiating portion 150 may be between 5 mm and 20 mm. The width W2 of the second radiating portion 150 may be between 3 mm and 5 mm. The distance D1 between the first radiating portion 140 and the second radiating portion 150 may be between 1 mm and 2 mm. The distance D2 between the slot 120 of the metal structure 110 and the circular radiating portion 130 may be between 2 mm and 4 mm. The above size ranges are obtained based on the results of multiple experiments, which help optimize the operating bandwidth and impedance matching (Impedance Matching) of the antenna structure of the communication device 100.
[0087] The following embodiments will introduce different configurations and detailed structural features of the communication device 100. It should be understood that these drawings and descriptions are for illustrative purposes only and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention.
[0088] Figure 4 A perspective view of a communication device 400 according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown. Figure 4In the embodiment of the present invention, the communication device 400 is a notebook computer, which includes at least an upper cover housing 410, a display frame 420, a keyboard frame 430, a base housing 440, and a click pad 450. It should be understood that the upper cover housing 410, the display frame 420, the keyboard frame 430, and the base housing 440 can be respectively equivalent to the so-called "A component", "B component", "C component", and "D component" in the field of notebook computers. In addition, the base housing 440 here can also be equivalent to the metal structure component 110 described in the previous embodiment. The aforementioned antenna structure can be set at a specific position 460 of the communication device 400, which can be adjacent to the click pad 450. It should be noted that the term "adjacent" or "adjacent" in this specification may refer to a situation where the distance between two corresponding elements is less than a predetermined distance (for example, 10 mm or shorter), and may also include a situation where the two corresponding elements are in direct contact with each other (that is, the aforementioned distance is shortened to 0).
[0089] Figure 5 A cross-sectional view of a communication device 500 according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown. Figure 5 and Figure 1 Similar. Figure 5 In the embodiment, the communication device 500 further includes a click pad frame 510, a metal wall 520, a first conductive gasket 530, a second conductive gasket 540, a battery element 550, a click pad 560, and a nonconductive decorative element 570, wherein the click pad frame 510 can be made of metal.
[0090] The metal wall 520 is coupled to the touchpad frame 510. The circular radiating portion 130 is also coupled to the touchpad frame 510. The touchpad frame 510 can be disposed between the metal wall 520 and the circular radiating portion 130. In some embodiments, the touchpad frame 510, the metal wall 520, the circular radiating portion 130, the first radiating portion 140, and the second radiating portion 150 can be an integrally formed design. For example, the aforementioned five elements can be formed by cutting and bending a single metal sheet. In some embodiments, the metal wall 520 can extend from the touchpad frame 510 in a first direction, while the circular radiating portion 130, the first radiating portion 140, and the second radiating portion 150 can extend from the touchpad frame 510 in a second direction, wherein the aforementioned second direction can be different from or opposite to the first direction.
[0091] According to actual measurement results, the addition of metal wall 520 can prevent interference from surrounding electronic components on an antenna structure of communication device 500, significantly improving the overall radiation efficiency of communication device 500. Furthermore, because the circular radiating portion 130, the first radiating portion 140, and the second radiating portion 150 can all be integrated with the touchpad frame 510, the overall manufacturing cost of communication device 500 can be further reduced.
[0092] In some embodiments, the cyclic radiating portion 130 may be further coupled to the metal structure 110 via a first conductive pad 530, and the metal wall 520 may be further coupled to the metal structure 110 via a second conductive pad 540. Both the first conductive pad 530 and the second conductive pad 540 may be used to compensate for manufacturing tolerances of the communication device 500. Furthermore, the cyclic radiating portion 130 may further include a protruding portion 136 to facilitate mutual fit with the first conductive pad 530. In other embodiments, the metal wall 520 may be directly connected to the metal structure 110 or may be fixed to the metal structure 110 via a screw element (not shown). In other embodiments, the cyclic radiating portion 130 may also be coupled to the metal structure 110 via another screw element or a spring element (not shown).
[0093] The battery element 550 can be used to provide power to the communication device 500. The battery element 550 is disposed on one side (e.g., the upper side) of the touchpad frame 510, wherein the battery element 550 is adjacent to the metal wall 520. For example, the height H1 of the metal wall 520 may be greater than the height H2 of the battery element 550 to block the related noise from the battery element 550. For example, the height H1 of the metal wall 520 may be between 2 mm and 15 mm. In some embodiments, a vertical projection of the cyclic radiation portion 130 does not overlap with the battery element 550 at all, thereby minimizing the interference caused by the battery element 550 and its associated circuit board (not shown). It must be understood that the battery element 550 is only an optional component and may be removed in other embodiments.
[0094] The touchpad 560 can be used to receive user input. For example, when a user's finger contacts the touchpad 560, the touchpad 560 can generate a corresponding input signal. The touchpad 560 is disposed on the opposite side (e.g., the lower side) of the touchpad frame 510, where the touchpad 560 is adjacent to the circular radiating portion 130. In other words, the touchpad frame 510 can separate the touchpad 560 and the battery element 550 from each other. In some embodiments, the touchpad frame 510 can be used to support and secure the touchpad 560, where a vertical projection of the touchpad 560 can at least partially overlap with the touchpad frame 510.
[0095] The non-conductive decorative element 570 can be implemented as a plastic plate, wherein the non-conductive decorative element 570 is adjacent to the cyclic radiating portion 130, the first radiating portion 140, and the second radiating portion 150. In some embodiments, the non-conductive decorative element 570 can be considered an antenna window, allowing electromagnetic waves associated with the cyclic radiating portion 130, the first radiating portion 140, and the second radiating portion 150 to be transmitted or received through the non-conductive decorative element 570. For example, the non-conductive decorative element 570 can be substantially aligned with the cyclic radiating portion 130, but this is not limited thereto.
[0096] The present invention provides a novel communication device and antenna structure thereof. Compared with conventional designs, the present invention has at least the advantages of small size, wide bandwidth, low manufacturing cost, and adaptability to various usage environments, making it very suitable for application in various devices.
[0097] It is worth noting that the above-mentioned element size, element shape, and frequency range are not limiting conditions of the present invention. Antenna designers can adjust these settings according to different needs. The communication device of the present invention is not limited to Figures 1 to 5 The present invention may only include Figures 1 to 5 In other words, not all of the features shown in the figures need to be implemented in the communication device of the present invention at the same time.
[0098] In this specification and claims, ordinal numbers, such as "first", "second", "third", etc., have no sequential relationship with each other and are only used to distinguish two different elements with the same name.
[0099] Although the present invention is disclosed above with reference to preferred embodiments, it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention. Any person skilled in the art should be able to make some changes and modifications without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Therefore, the scope of protection of the present invention should be determined by the scope of the appended claims.
