[0026] Figure 1 is an example injection testing system 100 for performing tests on an injection device, such as an autoinjector 102. The example injection testing system 100 may be configured, for example, to perform some or all tests to evaluate the requirements of the ISO 11608-5 standard. The example injection testing system 100 may be, for example, a general purpose testing system configured for injection testing.

[0027] Figure 1 The example injection testing system 100 includes: positioning device(s) (e.g., for positioning the auto-injector 102 in one or more positions and / or orientations for automatic testing); actuator(s) (e.g., for actuating components of the auto-injector 102, for actuating positioning device(s), for positioning and / or orienting the test device, etc.); and / or sensors for measuring various aspects of the auto-injector 102 during testing (e.g., load sensors for measuring actuation force(s), auditory sensors for detecting audible events), mass scales for measuring expelled doses, displacement sensors and / or position sensors for triggering test steps and / or for measuring displacement of components of the auto-injector 102, etc. The example injection testing system 100 further includes one or more user interface devices, such as a display 104 and an input device 106.

[0028] Figure 2 is a block diagram of an example injection test system 200 including an injection needle blow-off device. The example injection test system 200 may be used to implement Figure 1 Some or all components of the injection testing system 100.

[0029] The example injection test system 200 includes an injection needle locator 202, a syringe actuator 204, an injection collector 206, and a control circuit system 208. The injection needle locator 202 positions and / or orients a syringe 210 (e.g., an automatic syringe) to perform one or more tests in the injection test system 200. For example, the injection needle locator 202 can grasp the syringe 210 and move and / or rotate the syringe 210 to perform the test. The injection needle locator can grasp the syringe 210 by two or more clamps 203. The position of the injection needle locator 202 and / or the syringe 210 can be measured by one or more displacement sensors 212, which provide displacement and / or position information to the control circuit system 208.

[0030] The syringe actuator 204 actuates one or more aspects of the syringe 210, such as a plunger or other injection mechanism of the syringe 210. The force applied by the syringe actuator 204 can be measured by a force sensor 214, which provides the force measurements to the control circuitry 208.

[0031] The syringe collector 206 includes a loading surface (e.g., a positioning plate 216), a blow-off nozzle 218, and a collection container 220. The collection container 220 and the syringe 210 are positioned so that when the syringe 210 is actuated to discharge the fluid contained in the syringe 210, the fluid is discharged into the collection container 220. The collection sensor 222 measures the mass and / or volume collected in the collection container 220 and provides the mass or volume measurement results to the control circuit system 208.

[0032] The positioning plate 216 allows the needle 224 of the syringe 210 to extend through the positioning plate 216 toward the collection container 220. The positioning plate 216 can block the body of the syringe 210 from extending through the positioning plate 216 using an appropriately sized orifice for the needle 224 and the body of the syringe 210. To test the dispensing of the contained fluid, the injection needle positioner 202 can position the syringe 210 to contact or abut the positioning plate 216 so that the needle 224 extends through the orifice of the positioning plate 216. When the syringe 210 is positioned, the syringe 210 can be actuated (e.g., manually or automatically via the syringe actuator 204) to expel the contents of the syringe 210 into the collection container 220.

[0033] While the examples disclosed herein use the positioning plate 216 as a loading surface, other examples may use different types of loading surfaces against which the syringe 210 may be actuated to expose the needle 224 and / or expel the contents of the syringe 210. For example, rods or other structural members may be used that are positioned to contact the body of the syringe 210 on the top side of the loading surface and avoid obstructing the needle 224. In some such examples, the blow-off nozzle 218 may be coupled to another surface within the syringe collector 206 adjacent to the bottom side of the loading surface and / or adjacent to the location of the needle 224, or otherwise be adjustably supported.

[0034] When the actuation of the syringe 210 is completed, the blow-off nozzle 218 is controlled to blow the last drop of fluid from the needle tip or near the needle tip into the collection container 220. The gas supply 226 provides gas, such as nitrogen or air, to the blow-off nozzle 218. The gas supply 226 can be, for example, a compressed gas source, a pneumatic pump or a blower. The blow-off nozzle 218 can be positioned and / or oriented to adjust the position where the blow-off gas hits the needle 224, and / or can be positioned and / or oriented so that the blow-off gas hits the needle 224 over a certain range of needle lengths.

[0035] The example control circuit system 208 can be a general purpose computer, a laptop computer, a tablet computer, and / or any other type of processing system configured to communicate with the sensors and actuators of the injection test system 200. For example, the control circuit system 208 includes a processor 228, a memory 230, and a storage device 232. The example processor 228 can be any general purpose central processing unit (CPU) from any manufacturer. In some other examples, the processor 228 can include one or more special processing units, such as a RISC processor with an ARM core, a graphics processing unit, a digital signal processor, and / or a system on a chip (SoC). The processor 228 executes machine-readable instructions 234, which can be stored locally at the processor (e.g., in an included cache or SoC), stored in a memory (e.g., a random access memory or other volatile memory, a read-only memory, or other non-volatile memory such as flash memory), and / or stored in a storage device 232. The example storage device 232 can be a hard disk drive, a solid state storage drive, a hybrid drive, a RAID array, and / or any other mass data storage device.

[0036] Figure 3A and Figure 3B is a perspective view of an example gripper 203. As discussed above, the needle locator 202 may include one or more grippers 203 by which the needle locator 202 may grasp the syringe 210. Figure 4A yes Figure 3A and Figure 3B A bottom plan view of an example clamp 203, and Figure 4B yes Figure 3A and Figure 3B FIG. 2 is a top plan view of an example clamp 203 . Figure 5 yes Figure 3A and Figure 3B A side view of an example clamp.

[0037] The clamp 203 may include one or more apertures 302 through which the clamp 203 can dock or couple with the injection needle locator 202. For example, the clamp 203 may include a single aperture 302. The aperture 302 may be configured to dock or couple with the mounting bracket 606 of the injection needle locator 202. The aperture 302 may extend through a portion of the length of the clamp 203 or extend through the entire length of the clamp 203. For example, the aperture 302 may extend from the first end 314 of the clamp 203 to the second end 316 of the clamp 203, so that the aperture 302 can dock with the mounting bracket 606 from either end of the clamp 203. The size and shape of the aperture 302 may vary. For example, the aperture 302 may be square, semi-square, rectangular, circular, oval, or any other suitable shape.

[0038] The example clamp 203 further includes a clamping face 304 located on a lateral side of the clamp 203. The example clamping face 304 includes two or more sections, such as a first section 306 and a second section 308. The first section 306 extends from or toward a first end 314 of the clamp 203, and the second section 308 extends from or toward a second end 316 of the clamp 203. Each section 306, 308 has a profile configured to dock with a syringe 210. The first section 306 and the second section 308 of the example clamp 203 have different profiles to clamp syringes with different profiles. However, the clamp 203 can be replaced with a clamp having a consistent profile (e.g., a flat surface) over the entire length or a portion of the length of the clamping face.

[0039] As described above, the contour of each section of the example clamp 203 is configured to interface with the syringe 210. To this end, the shape of the contour can vary depending on the shape of the syringe 210. For example, the example clamping section 308 is configured to interface with a syringe 210 having an asymmetric geometry (e.g., a specific asymmetric geometry that is incompatible with the clamping by the first section 306). To this end, the example second section 308 includes a concave clamping groove 310 that is configured to interface with a syringe 210 having an asymmetric geometry. The example concave clamping groove 310 extends from the second end 316 of the clamp 203. In some examples, the concave clamping groove 310 extends across at least a portion of the length of the second section 308. In other examples, the concave clamping groove extends across the entire length of the second section 308 (e.g., from the first end 308a of the second section to the second end 308b).

[0040] In other examples, the clamping section 306 is configured to interface with a syringe 210 having a symmetrical geometry. Example symmetrical geometries of the syringe 210 include cylindrical, elliptical, and semi-square geometries. For example, the profile of the first section 306 of the example clamp 203 is defined by a v-shaped symmetrical surface. In other examples, the first section 306 is defined by other suitable symmetrical surface geometries, such as a semi-circular geometry. Although in Figure 3A , Figure 3B Example angles for the surfaces are shown in FIG. 4 , but different angles may be used.

[0041] In some examples, the clamp 203 is made of an uncoated material. In other examples, at least a portion of the clamp 203 includes an anti-skid coating. The anti-skid coating of the example clamp 203 is configured to enhance the stability of the syringe 210 when it is engaged by two clamps 203. Various anti-skid coatings can be included. In some examples, the anti-skid coating is a surface alloy coating, rubber, brake lining material, and / or any other suitable coating material. Additionally or alternatively, the clamping surface 304 can be knurled or otherwise textured to increase the friction between the clamp 203 and the syringe 210 without a coating. The clamp 202 (including the clamping surface 304) can also be sandblasted, passivated and / or otherwise treated to improve aesthetics and / or corrosion resistance.

[0042] The clamp 203 may include one or more accessory mounting holes 312. The one or more accessory mounting holes 312 may be located at either end 314, 316 of the clamp 203 and may be oriented parallel to the aperture 302. In some examples, the accessory mounting holes 312 extend from the first end 314 to the second end 316 of the example clamp 203. In other examples, the accessory mounting holes 312 extend from the first end 314 or from the second end 316, but only over a portion of the length of the example clamp 203. The accessory mounting holes 312 may be threaded and configured to interface with threaded mounting screws.

[0043] The accessory mounting hole 312 can be configured to dock or connect with various accessories on either side of the example clamp 203. For example, the accessory mounting hole 312 can be configured to dock with one or more custom plates. In some examples, the one or more custom plates are configured to change, customize and / or replace the profile of the first section 306 and / or the second section 308 of the clamping surface 304. For example, a custom plate can be attached to each clamp in the clamp 203 via the accessory mounting hole 312. The profile of the custom plate can be configured to engage the syringe 210 before the syringe 210 engages with the clamp 203, which enables the custom plate to perform clamping of the syringe 210. As disclosed above, the custom plate can be coated to improve clamping. As described above, the shape of the profile can be configured to dock with a syringe 210 having a certain geometry (such as a symmetrical or asymmetrical geometry).

[0044] The clamp 203 may include more or fewer accessory mounting holes 312 than shown in the illustrated example. For example, the clamp 203 may include one or more additional alignment holes 318 that may engage with the custom plate and / or an alignment object (e.g., a pin) that facilitates proper alignment of the custom plate. The alignment holes 318 may have one or more predetermined shapes and / or locations on the clamp 203 to facilitate alignment and / or prevent incorrect orientation of the custom plate or other object.

[0045] like Fig. 6A and Figure 6B As shown, the example clamp 203 further includes a direction indicator 608. In the example shown, the direction indicator 608 points to the direction in which the clamps 203 are closed, thereby guiding the operator to correctly orient the clamps 203 during installation. If the operator incorrectly orients the clamp 203, the direction indicator 608 may point to the wrong direction.

[0046] Fig. 6A and Figure 6B is a perspective view of an example needle locator 202 including a clamp 203 coupled to the needle locator 202 via a mounting bracket 606 . Figure 7is a bottom view of the example injection needle positioner of FIG. 6 , wherein the clamp 203 is in a closed position when coupled to the mounting bracket in a first orientation. Figure 8 6, wherein the clamp 203 is in a closed position when coupled to the mounting bracket in the second orientation. Fig. 6A and Figure 6B As shown, the example clamp 203 includes one or more mounting holes 602 configured to interface or couple with a mounting bracket 606. The mounting holes can be oriented perpendicular to the aperture 302. In some examples, the mounting holes 602 are threaded and configured to interface with threaded mounting screws 604 to couple to the mounting bracket 606. In other examples, the one or more threaded mounting screws 604 can interface with one or more mounting openings located on the mounting bracket 606 to securely couple the clamp 203 to the mounting bracket 606.

[0047] like Fig. 6A and Figure 6B As shown, the example needle locator 202 includes two clamps 203 coupled to the needle locator 202 via two mounting brackets 606 . Fig. 6A and Figure 6B An example needle locator 202 is shown, which includes two clamps 203 oriented in an open position. Fig. 6A and Figure 6B In the open position shown, there is a space between the clamps 203 so that the clamps 203 are oriented to receive a syringe 210 (e.g., an automatic syringe). The two clamps 203 can be moved laterally toward one clamp as shown. Figure 7 When in the closed position as shown Figure 7 In the closed position shown, the example clamp 203 is configured to securely clamp the syringe 210. Fig. 6A , Figure 6B and Figure 7 As shown, each clamping member 203 of the injection needle positioner 202 may include the Figures 1 to 5 Some or all of the components of the clamp 203 are shown.
