[0012] In the following description of various examples of bladder systems, footwear components, and / or articles of footwear according to the present technology, reference is made to the accompanying drawings that form a part of the present technology, and in which are shown by way of illustration various example structures and environments in which aspects of the present technology may be practiced. It should be understood that other structures and environments may be utilized, and that structural and functional modifications may be made to the specifically described structures, functions, and methods without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.
[0013] This application describes footwear components (e.g., bladder system components, footwear components, etc.) that are "bonded" together. The term "bonded" (and its derivatives) means that the components are securely attached to each other. The term "bonded" encompasses bonds formed using adhesives or bonding agents (including hot melt adhesives) as well as bonds formed in an "adhesive-free" manner (i.e., without the use of a separate adhesive component). "Adhesive-free" bonds include bonds formed by fusing or melting the components together (e.g., if the components (such as two components including thermoplastic polyurethane components) include compositions that are compatible to be mixed and joined together to form a bond); bonds formed by welding techniques (e.g., RF welding, ultrasonic welding, high frequency welding, laser welding, impulse welding, etc.); bonds formed by heat sealing; and the like. Some adhesive-free bonds can form a seamless connection between two previously separate components (e.g., materials are mixed and joined together, and then rehardened without a discernible joining point). As used herein, the term "melt bond" and variations thereof means a bond formed when local melting of each component occurs (e.g., the thermoplastic polymer present in each component melts), the molten components are combined together, and then the combined components harden to "fuse" and "bond" the two components together. Such melt-bonded connections are adhesive-free and can be seamless. The term "joined to..." is used herein as a general term and includes within its scope adhesive-based and adhesive-free bonding, as well as other possible types of joining that secure two (or more) components together (including by using mechanical connectors or fasteners, by using sewing or stitching, etc.).
[0014] This application and / or its claims use adjectives such as "first," "second," "third," etc. to identify certain components and / or features associated with the present technology. These adjectives are used merely for convenience, for example, to help maintain the distinction between components and / or features of one or more particular structures. The use of these adjectives should not be interpreted as requiring a specific order or arrangement of the components and / or features in question. In addition, the use of these specific adjectives for specific structures in the specification does not require the use of the same adjective to refer to the same part in the claims (e.g., a component or feature referred to as "fourth" in the specification can correspond to any numerical adjective used for the same component or feature in the claims).
[0015] As used herein, the term "elasticity" refers to the physical property of an object to deform (e.g., stretch) under an applied force and return to its original shape and size after the deforming force is removed or sufficiently relaxed. As used herein, the term "elastic connector" means a "component" (which may include one or more parts) that spans and / or connects two (or more) other components, wherein at least some parts (e.g., one or more parts) of the spanning or connecting component have "elastic" or "elastic" properties. As used herein, an "elastic connector" spans or connects two (or more) other components in such a way that: (a) at least some parts of the two (or more) components can move relative to each other under an applied force sufficient to elastically deform the elastic connector, and (b) when the applied force is removed or sufficiently reduced, the parts of the two (or more) components move back to their original positions, so that the elasticity of the elastic connector causes the elastic connector to return to its original size and shape.
[0016] As used herein, the term "elastic connector" generally includes a fabric or textile elastic component and / or a hardware component (e.g., one or more springs). The term "fabric-type elastic connector" may be used herein to describe an elastic connector that has elasticity due to the stretching and return of the elastic fabric material. The term "hardware-type elastic connector" may be used herein to describe an elastic connector that has elasticity due to the stretching and return of the hardware component. "Spring" is an example of a "hardware-type elastic connector." The term "spring-type elastic connector" may be used herein to describe an elastic connector that has elasticity due to the stretching and return of the spring.
[0017] In at least some examples of the present technology, an "elastic connector" will be able to: (i) stretch by at least 20% (e.g., a 10 cm length of spring or fabric material may stretch by at least 2 cm) in at least one dimension (e.g., in a direction extending directly between the connected components) under an applied tensile force, and in some examples, stretch by at least 30%, at least 40%, at least 50%, or even at least 60%, and (ii) return or rebound to its original size and shape when the force is removed or sufficiently relaxed.
[0018] A connector component may constitute an "elastic connector" as that term is used herein even if it is not made entirely of an "elastic" material and / or is not made entirely of a hardware-type elastic connector. Conversely, a connector may constitute an "elastic connector" as that term is used herein if at least a portion of the connector is made of an "elastic material" and / or a hardware-type elastic connector, and the "elastic" material and / or hardware component is arranged in the connector (and relative to the connected components) to provide the desired relative movement and return characteristics.
[0019] In some examples, the "elastic connector" can be formed entirely or partially from an elastic fabric material (fabric-type elastic connector). Examples of such fabric materials include fabrics made from or including one or more of the following: rubber materials (natural and / or synthetic); elastomers; elastic fibers; spandex; nylon; chloroprene rubber; chloroprene; butyl rubber (GDP); fluoroelastomers; ethylene propylene rubber (EPR); styrene butadiene rubber (SBR); epichlorohydrin rubber; terpenes; isoprene rubber; polybutadiene; nitrile rubber; stretchable vinyl; thermoplastic elastomers; silicone rubber; ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM); ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA rubber or foam); and halogenated butyl rubber (CIIR, BIIR).
[0020] In addition, as used herein, the term "forefoot" (as in "forefoot portion", "forefoot area", etc.) refers to a portion, area, structure or component located in the front 1 / 3 of a footwear article, a sole structure or a component thereof and / or associated therewith; the term "midfoot" (as in "midfoot portion", "midfoot area", etc.) refers to a portion, area, structure or component located in the middle 1 / 3 of a footwear article, a sole structure or a component thereof and / or associated therewith; and the term "heel" or "rearfoot" (as in "heel portion", "heel area", "rearfoot portion", "rearfoot area", etc.) refers to a portion, area, structure or component located in the rear 1 / 3 of a footwear article, a sole structure or a component thereof and / or associated therewith.
[0021] I. General Description of Aspects of the Technology
[0022] As described above, aspects of the present technology relate to bladder systems, footwear components (e.g., uppers) including such bladder systems, and footwear articles including such bladder systems. Such bladder systems, footwear components including such bladder systems, and footwear articles including such bladder systems may include any one or more of the structures, parts, features, characteristics of the examples described and / or claimed below and / or illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and / or combinations of structures, parts, features, and / or characteristics.
[0023] A bladder system for an article of footwear according to at least some aspects of the present technology includes two or more bladder pods engaged with one or more elastic connectors. A bladder pod may include a seam defining an internal bladder chamber (fluid-filled chamber) for the pod. A bladder pod may be engaged with at least one other bladder pod by one or more elastic connectors (e.g., connectors extending between and connecting the pod seams defining the internal bladder chamber).
[0024] As a more specific example, some aspects of the present technology relate to a bladder system for an article of footwear, comprising: (a) a first bladder pod comprising a first seam defining a first internal bladder chamber; (b) a second bladder pod comprising a second seam defining a second internal bladder chamber; and (c) a first elastic connector that joins the first seam and the second seam. Additional bladder pods may be included in the overall bladder system. Such additional bladder pods may be engaged with one or more of the other bladder pods in the overall system, for example, by engaging with the first elastic connector, by engaging with another elastic connector, and / or by otherwise engaging with one or more of the other bladder pods (e.g., via a non-elastic connector).
[0025] Such bladder systems may be incorporated into an upper for an article of footwear. In such a configuration, the upper for an article of footwear may include: (a) an upper base component including one or more upper component portions; and (b) a bladder system of the type described above engaged with the upper base component. The bladder system may be located at an ankle-covering portion and / or a heel-covering portion of the upper base component and may be used to provide additional support and / or impact protection to a wearer's ankle and / or heel.
[0026] Additional aspects and examples of the present technology relate to a bladder system for an article of footwear, the bladder system comprising: (i) a first bladder pod defining a first interior bladder chamber; (ii) a second bladder pod defining a second interior bladder chamber, wherein the first bladder pod and the second bladder pod are at least partially separated by a first gap; and (iii) a first elastic connector that engages the first bladder pod and the second bladder pod and spans the first gap. The same first elastic connector can engage and connect to additional bladder pods and / or can span gaps between these additional bladder pods.
[0027] Still additional aspects and examples of the present technology include an upper for an article of footwear, the upper comprising: (i) a first capsule pod defining a first interior capsule chamber; (ii) a second capsule pod defining a second interior capsule chamber, wherein the first capsule pod and the second capsule pod are at least partially separated by a first gap; and (iii) a first upper component that joins the first capsule pod and the second capsule pod, wherein the first upper component includes a first elastic material portion located in the first gap. The same first upper component may join additional capsule pods and / or may include additional elastic material portions located in gaps between these additional capsule pods. Thus, the elastic material connecting the capsule pods may include an integral part of the material element that forms the footwear upper.
[0028] Other aspects of the technology relate to articles of footwear that include the various types of bladder systems and / or uppers described above (and those described in more detail below). Still additional aspects of the technology relate to methods of making the bladder systems, footwear components (e.g., footwear uppers), and / or articles of footwear described above (and those described in more detail below).
[0029] Given the general description of features, examples, aspects, structures, and methods according to various aspects of the present technology provided above, following is a more detailed description of specific example footwear uppers, bladder systems, articles of footwear, and methods according to the present technology.
[0030] II. Detailed Description of Example Bladder Systems, Footwear Components (E.G., Footwear Uppers), and / or Articles of Footwear According to Aspects of the Present Technology
[0031] Figures 1A to 1D Features of a bladder system 100 for an article of footwear 1000 are illustrated in accordance with some examples of the present technology. Figure 1A A side view (eg, a medial view) of a footwear upper chassis component 102 (made from one or more component portions) is provided with a bladder system 100 partially engaged therewith in accordance with some examples of the present technology. Figure 1B and Figure 1C A medial view and a lateral view of an example article of footwear 1000 according to the present technology are provided, respectively. Alternatively, if desired, the bladder system 100 can be arranged on the footwear upper base component 102 such that Figure 1B Constitutes the lateral view and Figure 1C Constitute the inner view. Figure 1D Provides along Figure 1A The cross-sectional view of the line 1D-1D (although Figure 1D The features of the bladder system 100 and its connection to the footwear upper component 102 shown in FIG. 1 may also be applied to the following combination Figures 2A to 4 other bladder systems and upper components described herein).
[0032] like Figure 1DAs shown, the bladder system 100 (and its bladder pod, described in more detail below) includes a first thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100A (having an interior surface 100AI and an exterior surface 100AX) and a second thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100B (having an interior surface 100BI and an exterior surface 100BX). The two thermoplastic elastomer sheets 100A, 100B are joined together by a joint 104 (at the interior surfaces 100AI, 100BI that are in contact with each other). The two thermoplastic elastomer sheets 100A, 100B can be joined together in any desired manner, including in a manner conventionally known and used in the footwear field, for example, via an adhesive, via a bonding technique using heat and / or pressure, via fusion bonding, via a welding technique (e.g., RF welding, ultrasonic welding, etc.), etc. The exterior surface 100AX of one thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100A is joined (e.g., bonded) to the upper base component 102.
[0033] The interior chamber 106 is defined between the first thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100A and the second thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100B and inboard of the joint 104. Thus, in this example, the joint 104 and the thermoplastic elastomer sheets 100A, 100B form a single continuous airtight (sealed) interior chamber pod 106. Although the joint 104 may extend around 100% of the outer periphery of the bladder system component 100, this is not required. For example, if the first thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100A and the second thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100B constitute portions of a single sheet of thermoplastic elastomer material (e.g., folded on at least one edge), the joint 104 may form a sealed joint between overlapping portions of the first thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100A and the second thermoplastic elastomer sheet 100B at locations other than the fold.
[0034] In the illustrated example, reference is also returned to Figures 1A to 1C , upper base component 102 constitutes a high-top upper for a basketball shoe, for example. Upper base component 102 may have any desired number of parts, including one or more fabric, textile, plastic, metal, leather, and / or rubber component parts. Upper base component 102 may have a conventional construction and may be made of conventional materials known and used in the footwear art.
[0035] Figures 1A to 1C The bladder system 100 is shown engaged with the footwear upper chassis component 102 at the ankle-receiving area (or heel-receiving area) of the entire upper chassis component 102. The bladder system 100 of this example wraps around the rear heel area of the upper chassis component 102 so as to provide medial ankle or heel support, lateral ankle or heel support, and Achilles tendon support. Figures 1A to 1CThe bladder system 100 does not completely surround the wearer's foot and / or leg (e.g., the bladder system 100 has a front medial end or edge 108M ( Figure 1B ) and front lateral end or edge 108L, and does not extend across the front or instep area of upper chassis component 102). Bladder system 100 can be engaged with upper chassis component 102 in any desired manner. As some more specific examples, bladder system 100 can be engaged with upper chassis component 102 (e.g., engaged with one or more component portions of upper chassis component 102) by one or more of the following: stitching (e.g., stitching through joint 104 and one or more upper chassis components 102); bonding techniques (e.g., adhesive-free bonding or adhesive-based bonding); mechanical connectors or fasteners (e.g., rivets or other connectors extending through joint 104 and one or more upper chassis components 102); etc. As other examples, bladder system 100 (e.g., thermoplastic elastomeric material (e.g., sheet 100A)) can be joined to one or more textile components of upper base component 102 by adhesive, by adhesiveless bonding, by welding techniques, etc., including in any manner described in U.S. Patent Application No. 63 / 277,916, filed on November 10, 2021, and / or described in U.S. Patent Application No. 63 / 277,932, filed on November 10, 2021. U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 277,916 and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 277,932 are incorporated herein by reference in their entireties.
[0036] like Figure 1B and Figure 1C As further shown in FIG. 1 , the footwear upper base 102 can be joined to a footwear sole structure 1004. The sole structure 1004 can have any desired number of portions, including one or more midsole component portions and / or one or more outsole component portions. The sole structure 1004 can have a conventional construction and can be made of conventional materials known and used in the footwear art. In addition, the sole structure 1004 can be joined to one or more upper base component 102 portions, including in a conventional manner known and used in the footwear art.
[0037] We will now describe in more detail Figures 1A to 1C1 and 2. Features of the example bladder system 100 illustrated in FIG. As shown, the example bladder system 100 includes three bladder pods 110, 120, 130. More or fewer bladder pods may be provided if desired. The first bladder pod 110 includes a first seam 110A (which may be at least partially formed by the outer peripheral seam 104) that defines a first interior bladder chamber 110C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). The first bladder pod 110 supports the upper portion and front medial ankle region of the wearer's foot (although it may also be located at the upper portion and front lateral ankle region of the wearer's foot).
[0038] The example bladder system 100 also includes a second bladder pod 120 that includes a second seam 120A (which may also be at least partially formed by the outer peripheral seam 104) that defines a second internal bladder chamber 120C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). The second bladder pod 120 supports the lower (and central) medial ankle region of the wearer's foot (although it may also be located in the lower lateral (and central) ankle region of the wearer's foot). In the illustrated example: (i) the first seam 110A completely surrounds and seals the first internal bladder chamber 110C, (ii) the second seam 120A completely surrounds and seals the second internal bladder chamber 120C, and (iii) the first internal bladder chamber 110C is not in fluid communication with the second internal bladder chamber 120C. Therefore, the two pods 110 and 120 are not in fluid communication with each other. Alternatively, if desired, a fluid path between the first internal capsule chamber 110C and the second internal capsule chamber 120C may be provided (e.g., at Figure 1A 115 as shown). Thus, in this alternative arrangement, the first internal capsule chamber 110C may be in fluid communication with the second internal capsule chamber 120C.
[0039] like Figure 1A and Figure 1B As further shown in the illustrated example bladder system 100 , the first elastic connector 150 joins the first seam 110A and the second seam 120A and / or the first elastic connector 150 joins the first bladder pod 110 and the second bladder pod 120 .
[0040] Figures 1A to 1CThe example also includes a third bladder pod 130. The third bladder pod 130 includes a third seam 130A (which may also be at least partially formed by the outer peripheral seam 104) that defines a third internal bladder chamber 130C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). The third bladder pod 130 supports the rear ankle and / or heel area of the wearer's foot. In the illustrated example, the third seam 130A completely surrounds and seals the third internal bladder chamber 110C. Therefore, the third internal bladder chamber 130C is not in fluid communication with the first internal bladder chamber 110C and / or is not in fluid communication with the second internal bladder chamber 120C. Therefore, the three pods 110, 120 and 130 are not in fluid communication with each other. Alternatively, if desired, one or more fluid paths may be provided: (a) between the first internal bladder chamber 110C and the second internal bladder chamber 120C (e.g., between the first internal bladder chamber 110C and the second internal bladder chamber 120C); Figure 1A (b) between the first internal capsule chamber 110C and the third internal capsule chamber 130C (e.g., between Figure 1A 125 as shown), and / or (c) between the second internal capsule chamber 120C and the third internal capsule chamber 130C (e.g., between Figure 1A 135 as shown). Thus, in these alternative arrangements, two or more of the first internal capsule chamber 110C, the second internal capsule chamber 120C, and the third internal capsule chamber 130C may be in fluid communication with each other.
[0041] exist Figures 1A to 1C In the example of the third capsule pod 130, the first pod chamber 132A (e.g., the medial chamber pod), the second pod chamber 132B (e.g., the lateral chamber pod), and the fluid passage 132 connecting the first pod chamber 132A and the second pod chamber 132B. Therefore, in the illustrated example, the first pod chamber 132A is in fluid communication with the second pod chamber 132B. The fluid passage 132 extends from the medial side of the upper base member 102 to the lateral side around the rear heel and / or ankle area of the upper base member 102. Alternatively, if desired, the two pod chambers 132A and 132B can be isolated and not in fluid communication with each other (e.g., the fluid passage 132 can be omitted, closed or sealed).
[0042] exist Figures 1A to 1C In the example of FIG. 1 , the first elastic connector 150 is also connected to the third seam 130A of the third pod 130. Thus, each of the first seam 110A, the second seam 120A, and the third seam 130A is connected to the first elastic connector 150 and / or each of the first capsule pod 110, the second capsule pod 120, and the third capsule pod 130 is connected to the first elastic connector 150 in some manner.
[0043] Although other arrangements are possible, in some examples of the present technology, the size, shape and / or positioning of the first elastic connector 150 on the upper base member 102 can be set so that the first elastic connector 150 fits generally on the medial or lateral malleolus of the wearer. The elastic connector 150 can enable the bladder system 100 to fit snugly around the ankle and / or heel area of the wearer. The elastic connector 150 can also allow some relative movement between the first bladder pod 110, the second bladder pod 120 and the third bladder pod 130, for example, when the wearer moves in the footwear article 1000, while allowing the bladder system 100 to provide support and fit, and at the same time be able to return to its original size, shape and / or position once the force from the wearer's movement is removed or sufficiently relaxed.
[0044] Figures 1A to 1C The first capsule pod 110, the second capsule pod 120, and the third capsule pod 130 are shown as being part of a single capsule system 100 component, for example, joined by a single continuous outer peripheral seam 104 extending between and joining the capsule pods 110, 120, 130. Other options are also possible. For example, one or more of the first capsule pod 110, the second capsule pod 120, and / or the third capsule pod 130 may be completely separate and independent components from the other capsule pods, but these separate and independent components may be joined together, for example, by an elastic member 150. In such a structure, the elastic member 150 may be, for example, joined in a manner similar to that described below. Figure 2C The described pattern of engagement joins the seams 110A, 120A, 130A and extends between the seams 110A, 120A, 130A.
[0045] Furthermore, if desired, both the lateral and medial sides of upper base component 102 may include multiple capsule pods and / or one or more elastic connectors. As a more specific example, if desired, each side of article of footwear 1000 may have a three capsule pod configuration (e.g., a configuration that looks similar to the embodiment of FIG. 1 ) including first capsule pod 110, second capsule pod 120, first pod chamber 132A, and elastic connector 150. Figure 1B102). The first pod chambers 132 on opposite sides may be in fluid communication (via a fluid passage similar to fluid passage 132), or they may be fluidly isolated relative to each other. The two sides may be part of a single bladder system portion (e.g., connected by a perimeter seam 104). In such a structure, the elastic connector 150 on one side may fit over the wearer's medial ankle, while the elastic connector 150 on the other side may fit over the wearer's lateral ankle. In such a structure, the first bladder pods 110 on each side may be connected to each other (e.g., by a connector extending around the front ankle area of the upper base component 102), or they may remain separate.
[0046] In the above-described structure, the elastic connector 150 constitutes a separate component or separate material portion from the upper chassis component 102 to which the bladder system (e.g., the first thermoplastic elastomer sheet 102A) is attached. Alternatively, if desired, the elastic connector 150 can constitute a single and continuous portion having at least one upper chassis component 102 portion to which the bladder system 100 (e.g., the first thermoplastic elastomer sheet 102A) is attached. Figure 1A and Figure 1B In the embodiment of the present invention, the area with the elastic connector 150 can constitute a through hole or gap located between the first capsule pod 110, the second capsule pod 120 and the first pod chamber 132A, and the material of the elastic connector 150 can also constitute the upper base component 102 exposed in the through hole or gap. The bladder system 100 can be joined to the upper base component 102, which includes the elastic connector 150 portion in this example, for example, by adhesive-free or adhesive bonding, by sewing, etc.

Figure 2F Provides a pass through Figure 2B 2F-2F of the cross-sectional view of the article of footwear 1000. Figure 2G A cross-sectional view of an alternative bladder system configuration is provided. Figures 2A to 2G Use with Figures 1A to 1DWhere the same reference numerals are used throughout, reference is made to the same or similar parts (e.g., with any of the options or alternatives described above), and much overlapping disclosure may be omitted. Figures 2A to 2G In the example of , the bladder system 100 is positioned relative to the upper base member 102 and is configured to form a support sleeve that completely surrounds the wearer's ankle. In addition, Figures 2A to 2G The bladder system 100 will completely surround the foot of the article of footwear 1000 and insert the foot into the opening 1006 .
[0050] exist FIG. 2A to FIG. 2C and Figure 2F In the example of , the bladder system 100 includes six separate bladder pod components (220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230) connected together by connectors (210A to 210F). One or more of these connectors (210A to 210F), and optionally all of the connectors, can be formed of or include an elastic material. At least one of these connectors (e.g., connector 210F) can include a releasable fastener system 212, for example, to enable the ends of the bladder system 100 to be joined together and separated (e.g., to more easily allow insertion and removal of the wearer's foot). When present, the releasable fastener 212 and the connector 210F on which it can be disposed can be located anywhere around the bladder system 100. In the illustrated example, the releasable fastener 212 and connector 210F are disposed at the front medial ankle support area of the bladder system 100 and the upper base component 102. The releasable fastener 212 may include any desired type of structure, such as one or more of the following: hook and loop fasteners, a belt system, buckles, buttons, snaps, hooks, buckles, magnetic fasteners, etc. Alternatively, if desired, the releasable fastener system may be omitted and the bladder system 100 may be secured in place, such as Figure 2A and Figure 2B The circular arrangement shown (eg, first capsule pod 220 connected to sixth capsule pod 230). In such a structure, the elastic connectors can provide sufficient stretchability to enable insertion and removal of the wearer's foot.
[0051] FIG. 2A to FIG. 2C and Figure 2FThe bladder system 100 includes: (i) a first bladder pod 220, the first bladder pod 220 including a first seam 220A defining a first internal bladder chamber 220C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas); and (ii) a second bladder pod 222, the second bladder pod 222 including a second seam 222A defining a second internal bladder chamber 222C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A first connector 210A joins the first seam 220A and the second seam 222A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the first connector 210A may include or be formed from an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector joining the first seam 220A and the second seam 222A). However, the first connector 210A need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). In the illustrated example, as Figure 2A As shown, the first pod 220 is located in the medial-medial ankle region of the upper base component 102 and the footwear article 1000 (and / or is engaged with the upper base component 102 in the medial-medial ankle region), and the second pod 222 is located in the rear medial ankle region of the upper base component 102 and the footwear article 1000 (and / or is engaged with the upper base component 102 in the rear medial ankle region).
[0052] exist Figure 2C In the illustrated configuration: (i) the first seam 220A completely surrounds and seals the first internal capsule chamber 220C, and (ii) the second seam 222A completely surrounds and seals the second internal capsule chamber 222C. Thus, in this example, the first internal capsule chamber 220C is not in fluid communication with the second internal capsule chamber 222C.
[0053] The example bladder system 100 also includes a third bladder pod 224, for example, as a separate component from the first bladder pod 220 and the second bladder pod 222. The third bladder pod 224 includes a third seam 224A that defines a third internal bladder chamber 224C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A second connector 210B joins the second seam 222A and the third seam 224A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the second connector 210B may include or be formed from an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the second seam 222A and the third seam 224A). However, the second connector 210B need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). In addition, in Figure 2C In the illustrated example, the third seam 224A completely surrounds and seals the third internal capsule chamber 224C. Figure 2CIn the example of FIG. 1 , the first internal capsule chamber 220C, the second internal capsule chamber 222C, and the third internal capsule chamber 224C are not in fluid communication with each other. Figure 2B As shown, third pod 224 is located in upper chassis component 102 and the rear lateral ankle region of article of footwear 1000 (and / or engaged with upper chassis component 102 at the rear lateral ankle region).
[0054] Figure 2C The example bladder system 100 also includes a fourth bladder pod 226, for example, as a separate component from the first bladder pod 220, the second bladder pod 222, and the third bladder pod 224. The fourth bladder pod 226 includes a fourth seam 226A that defines a fourth internal bladder chamber 226C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A third connector 210C joins the third seam 224A and the fourth seam 226A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the third connector 210C may include or be formed from an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the third seam 224A and the fourth seam 226A). However, the third connector 210C need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). In addition, in Figure 2C In the illustrated example, the fourth seam 226A completely surrounds and seals the fourth internal capsule chamber 226C. Figure 2C In the example of FIG. 1 , the first internal capsule chamber 220C, the second internal capsule chamber 222C, the third internal capsule chamber 224C, and the fourth internal capsule chamber 226C are not in fluid communication with each other. Figure 2B As shown, fourth pod 226 is located in upper chassis component 102 and the mediolateral ankle region of article of footwear 1000 (and / or engaged with upper chassis component 102 at the mediolateral ankle region).
[0055] Figure 2C The example bladder system 100 is further shown to include a fifth bladder pod 228, for example, as a separate component from the first bladder pod 220, the second bladder pod 222, the third bladder pod 224, and the fourth bladder pod 226. The fifth bladder pod 228 includes a fifth seam 228A that defines a fifth internal bladder chamber 228C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A fourth connector 210D joins the fourth seam 226A and the fifth seam 228A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the fourth connector 210D may include or be formed from an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the fourth seam 226A and the fifth seam 228A). However, the fourth connector 210D need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). Additionally, in Figure 2C In the illustrated example, the fifth seam 228A completely surrounds and seals the fifth internal capsule chamber 228C. Figure 2C In the example of FIG. 1 , the first internal capsule chamber 220C, the second internal capsule chamber 222C, the third internal capsule chamber 224C, the fourth internal capsule chamber 226C, and the fifth internal capsule chamber 228C are not in fluid communication with each other. Figure 2B As shown, fifth pod 228 is located in upper chassis component 102 and the front lateral ankle region of article of footwear 1000 (and / or engaged with upper chassis component 102 at the front lateral ankle region).
[0056] Figure 2C The example bladder system 100 also includes a sixth bladder pod 230, for example, as a separate component from the first bladder pod 220, the second bladder pod 222, the third bladder pod 224, the fourth bladder pod 226, and the fifth bladder pod 228. The sixth bladder pod 230 includes a sixth seam 230A that defines a sixth internal bladder chamber 230C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A fifth connector 210E joins the fifth seam 228A and the sixth seam 230A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the fifth connector 210E may include or be formed from an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the fifth seam 228A and the sixth seam 230A). However, the fifth connector 210E need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). Additionally, in Figure 2C In the illustrated example, the sixth seam 230A completely surrounds and seals the sixth internal capsule chamber 230C. Figure 2C In the example of FIG. 1 , the first internal capsule chamber 220C, the second internal capsule chamber 222C, the third internal capsule chamber 224C, the fourth internal capsule chamber 226C, the fifth internal capsule chamber 228C, and the sixth internal capsule chamber 230C are not in fluid communication with each other. Figure 2A As shown, sixth pod 230 is located in upper chassis component 102 and the front medial ankle region of article of footwear 1000 (and / or engaged with upper chassis component 102 at the front medial ankle region).
[0057] Figure 2CThe sixth capsule pod 230 of this example is also shown to include a portion of a releasable fastener system 212, for example, to enable the sixth capsule pod 230 to engage with the first capsule pod 220. Although other options are possible, in the illustrated example, portions of the fastener system 212 can be disposed on the seam 230A of the sixth capsule pod 230. These portions of the fastener system 212 on the sixth seam 230A can engage portions of the fastener system 212 disposed on the sixth connector 210F (e.g., mate with or otherwise engage portions of the fastener system 212 disposed on the sixth connector 210F). As another option, the portions of the fastener system 212 on the sixth seam 230A can include one or more openings in the sixth seam 230 that engage the sixth connector 210F and / or portions of the fastener system 212 on the sixth connector 210F. The releasable fastener system 212 may include any desired type of structure, such as one or more of: hook and loop fasteners, strap systems, buckles, buttons, snaps, hooks, buckles, magnetic fasteners, and the like.
[0058] exist Figure 2CIn the bladder system 100 , the bladder pods 220 , 222 , 224 , 226 , 228 , 230 are separate and individual components that are joined together by connectors 210A, 210B, 210C, 210D, 210E, 210F and a fastener system 212 . In this structure, one or more of the following may exist: (i) the first connector 210A (which may be an elastic connector) is the only structural element extending between the first capsule pod 220 and the second capsule pod 222 and / or connecting the first capsule pod 220 and the second capsule pod 222; (ii) the second connector 210B (which may be an elastic connector) is the only structural element extending between the second capsule pod 222 and the third capsule pod 224 and / or connecting the second capsule pod 222 and the third capsule pod 224; (iii) the third connector 210C (which may be an elastic connector) is the only structural element extending between the third capsule pod 224 and the fourth capsule pod 226 and / or connecting the third capsule pod 224 and the fourth capsule pod 226. 6; (iv) a fourth connector 210D (which may be an elastic connector) is the only structural element extending between the fourth capsule pod 226 and the fifth capsule pod 228 and / or connecting the fourth capsule pod 226 and the fifth capsule pod 228; (v) a fifth connector 210E (which may be an elastic connector) is the only structural element extending between the fifth capsule pod 228 and the sixth capsule pod 230 and / or connecting the fifth capsule pod 228 and the sixth capsule pod 230; and / or (vi) a sixth connector 210F (which may be an elastic connector) is the only structural element extending between the sixth capsule pod 230 and the first capsule pod 220 and / or connecting the sixth capsule pod 230 and the first capsule pod 220. Thus, at least some bladder systems 100 in accordance with aspects of the present technology may consist of only (or essentially of) the bladder pods 220 - 230 , the connectors 210A - 210F, and (if present) the fastening system 212 .
[0059] Figure 2D It is shown that it can be used for example Figure 2A and Figure 2B An alternative bladder system 100 in a footwear article of the type shown. In at least one aspect, based on Figure 2D The overall or interconnected nature of the structure shown in Figure 2D The capsule system 100 is different from Figure 2C More specifically, in Figure 2C In the example of , capsule pods 220 to 230 are independent and separate components connected together by connectors 210A to 210F. On the other hand, in Figure 2D In the capsule system 100, two or more of the capsule pods 220 to 230 are interconnected to each other, for example, by one or more "joining seam" portions. Figure 2D In the example of FIG. 1 , a top joining seam 104T extends between and connects two or more of the capsule pods 220 to 230, and a bottom joining seam 104B extends between and connects two or more of the capsule pods 220 to 230. The top joining seam 104T and the bottom joining seam 104B may also constitute a portion of the seams that define the capsule chambers 220C to 230C.
[0060] exist Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2D In the example of , the bladder system 100 includes six separate bladder pod components (220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230) that are connected together by: (i) connectors (210A-210F), (ii) by a top joining seam 104T, and (iii) by a bottom joining seam 104B. One or more of the connectors (210A-210F), and optionally all of the connectors, can be formed of or include an elastic material. At least one of these connectors (e.g., connector 210F) can include a releasable fastener system 212, for example, to enable the ends of the bladder system 100 to be joined together and separated (e.g., to more easily allow insertion and removal of a wearer's foot). When present, the releasable fastener 212 and the connector 210F on which it can be disposed can be located anywhere around the bladder system 100. In the illustrated example, releasable fastener 212 and connector 210F are disposed at the front medial ankle support area of bladder system 100 and upper base component 102. Releasable fastener 212 may include any desired type of structure, such as one or more of: hook and loop fasteners, strap systems, buckles, buttons, snaps, hooks, magnetic fasteners, etc.
[0061] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2DThe bladder system 100 includes: (i) a first bladder pod 220 including a first seam 220A defining a first interior bladder chamber 220C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas); and (ii) a second bladder pod 222 including a second seam 222A defining a second interior bladder chamber 222C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). The first seam 220A and the second seam 222A can be considered to be opposite sides of a single seam extending between and separating the first bladder pod 220 and the second bladder pod 222. The first connector 210A, the top joining seam 104T, and the bottom joining seam 104B join the first seam 220A and the second seam 222A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the first connector 210A can include or be formed from an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the first seam 220A and the second seam 222A). However, the first connector 210A need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The first connector 210A can be installed across an opening 250A defined through the seam that extends between and separates the first bladder pod 220 from the second bladder pod 222. Thus, the opening 250A separates the first seam 220A from the second seam 222A between the first bladder pod 220 and the second bladder pod 222. Such an opening 250A (when present) can allow for more relative movement between the first bladder pod 220 and the second bladder pod 222 (e.g., as the wearer moves within the article of footwear 1000).
[0062] exist Figure 2D In the illustrated structure, (i) the first internal capsule chamber 220C is completely surrounded and sealed by seams 220A, 104T and 104B, and (ii) the second internal capsule chamber 222C is completely surrounded and sealed by seams 222A, 104T and 104B. Therefore, in this example, the first internal capsule chamber 220C is not in fluid communication with the second internal capsule chamber 222C.
[0063] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2DThe bladder system 100 also includes a third bladder pod 224 that includes a third seam 224A that defines a third internal bladder chamber 224C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). The second seam 222A and the third seam 224A can be considered to be opposite sides of a single seam that extends between and separates the second bladder pod 222 and the third bladder pod 224. The second connector 210B, the top joining seam 104T, and the bottom joining seam 104B join the second seam 222A and the third seam 224A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the second connector 210B can include an elastic material or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the second seam 222A and the third seam 224A). However, the second connector 210B does not need to be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The second connector 210B can be mounted across an opening 250B defined by the seam that extends between and separates the second capsule pod 222 from the third capsule pod 224. Thus, the opening 250B separates the second seam 222A between the second capsule pod 222 and the third capsule pod 224 from the third seam 224A. Such an opening 250B (when present) can allow for more relative movement between the second capsule pod 222 and the third capsule pod 224 (e.g., as the wearer moves within the article of footwear 1000). In the illustrated example, as shown in FIG. Figure 2B As shown, third capsule pod 224 is located in the rear lateral ankle region of upper base member 102 and article of footwear 1000 (and / or is engaged with upper base member 102 at the rear lateral ankle region). Figure 2D In the illustrated structure, the third internal capsule chamber 224C is completely surrounded and sealed by seams 224A, 104T and 104B. Therefore, in this example, the first internal capsule chamber 220C, the second internal capsule chamber 222C and the third internal capsule chamber 224C are not in fluid communication with each other.
[0064] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2DThe bladder system 100 is also shown to include a fourth bladder pod 226 that includes a fourth seam 226A that defines a fourth internal bladder chamber 226C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). The third seam 224A and the fourth seam 226A can be considered to be opposite sides of a single seam that extends between and separates the third bladder pod 224 and the fourth bladder pod 226. The third connector 210C, the top joining seam 104T, and the bottom joining seam 104B join the third seam 224A and the fourth seam 226A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the third connector 210C can include or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the third seam 224A and the fourth seam 226A). However, the third connector 210C need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The third connector 210C can be mounted across an opening 250C defined by the cross seam that extends between and separates the third capsule pod 224 from the fourth capsule pod 226. Thus, the opening 250C separates the third seam 224A from the fourth seam 226A between the third capsule pod 224 and the fourth capsule pod 226. Such an opening 250C, when present, can allow for more relative movement between the third capsule pod 224 and the fourth capsule pod 226 (e.g., as the wearer moves within the article of footwear 1000). In the illustrated example, as shown in FIG. Figure 2B As shown, fourth pod 226 is located in the medial and lateral ankle regions of upper chassis component 102 and article of footwear 1000 (and / or is engaged with upper chassis component 102 in the medial and lateral ankle regions). Figure 2D In the illustrated structure, the fourth internal capsule chamber 226C is completely surrounded and sealed by seams 226A, 104T and 104B. Therefore, in this example, the first internal capsule chamber 220C, the second internal capsule chamber 222C, the third internal capsule chamber 224C and the fourth internal capsule chamber 226C are not in fluid communication with each other.
[0065] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2DThe bladder system 100 shown in also includes a fifth bladder pod 228 that includes a fifth seam 228A that defines a fifth internal bladder chamber 228C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). The fourth seam 226A and the fifth seam 228A can be considered to be opposite sides of a single seam that extends between and separates the fourth bladder pod 226 and the fifth bladder pod 228. The fourth connector 210D, the top joining seam 104T, and the bottom joining seam 104B join the fourth seam 226A and the fifth seam 228A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the fourth connector 210D can include an elastic material or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the fourth seam 226A and the fifth seam 228A). However, the fourth connector 210D does not need to be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The fourth connector 210D can be mounted across an opening 250D defined by the cross seam that extends between and separates the fourth capsule pod 226 from the fifth capsule pod 228. Thus, the opening 250D separates the fourth seam 226A between the fourth capsule pod 226 and the fifth capsule pod 228 from the fifth seam 228A. Such an opening 250D (when present) can allow for more relative movement between the fourth capsule pod 226 and the fifth capsule pod 228 (e.g., as the wearer moves within the article of footwear 1000). In the illustrated example, as shown in FIG. Figure 2B As shown, fifth pod 228 is located in the front lateral ankle region of upper base member 102 and article of footwear 1000 (and / or is engaged with upper base member 102 at the front lateral ankle region). Figure 2D In the illustrated structure, the fifth internal capsule chamber 228C is completely surrounded and sealed by seams 228A, 104T and 104B. Therefore, in this example, the first internal capsule chamber 220C, the second internal capsule chamber 222C, the third internal capsule chamber 224C, the fourth internal capsule chamber 226C and the fifth internal capsule chamber 228C are not in fluid communication with each other.
[0066] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2DThe bladder system 100 shown in also includes a sixth bladder pod 230 that includes a sixth seam 230A that defines a sixth internal bladder chamber 230C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). The fifth seam 228A and the sixth seam 230A can be considered to be opposite sides of a single seam that extends between and separates the fifth bladder pod 228 and the sixth bladder pod 230. The fifth connector 210E, the top joining seam 104T, and the bottom joining seam 104B join the fifth seam 228A and the sixth seam 230A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the fifth connector 210E can include an elastic material or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the fifth seam 228A and the sixth seam 230A). However, the fifth connector 210E need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The fifth connector 210E can be mounted across an opening 250E defined by the cross seam that extends between and separates the fifth capsule pod 228 from the sixth capsule pod 230. Thus, the opening 250E separates the fifth seam 228A between the fifth capsule pod 228 and the sixth capsule pod 230 from the sixth seam 230A. Such an opening 250E (when present) can allow for more relative movement between the fifth capsule pod 228 and the sixth capsule pod 230 (e.g., as the wearer moves within the article of footwear 1000). In the illustrated example, as shown in FIG. Figure 2A As shown, sixth capsule pod 230 is located in the front medial ankle region of upper base component 102 and footwear article 1000 (and / or is engaged with upper base component 102 at the front medial ankle region). Figure 2D In the illustrated structure, the sixth internal capsule chamber 230C is completely surrounded and sealed by the seams 230A, 104T and 104B. Therefore, in this example, the first internal capsule chamber 220C, the second internal capsule chamber 222C, the third internal capsule chamber 224C, the fourth internal capsule chamber 226C, the fifth internal capsule chamber 228C and the sixth internal capsule chamber 230C are not in fluid communication with each other.
[0067] Figure 2D Also shown are sixth connector 210F and sixth capsule pod 230 of this example including portions of a releasable fastener system 212 , for example, to enable sixth capsule pod 230 to engage with first capsule pod 220 . Figure 2D The releasable fastener system 212 may have the above combined Figure 2C Any features or options of the fastener system 212 described herein may be omitted. Alternatively, if desired, the releasable fastener system may be omitted, and Figure 2DThe capsule system 100 may be secured as Figure 2A and Figure 2B The circular arrangement shown (eg, first capsule pod 220 connected to sixth capsule pod 230).
[0068] Although Figure 2D The top joining seam 104T and the bottom joining seam 104B are shown to each extend the entire length of the bladder system 100, but this is not required. For example, the top joining seam 104T can be completely omitted. Alternatively, the bottom joining seam 104B can be completely omitted. As another alternative, one or more top joining seams 104T can join two or more pods and / or one or more bottom joining seams 104B can join two or more other pods. Therefore, in such a structure, one or more of the openings 250A to 250E can extend all the way to the top edge of the bladder system 100 and / or extend all the way to the bottom edge of the bladder system 100.
[0069] exist Figure 2C and Figure 2D In the capsule system 100, the individual capsule pods 220 to 230 are not in fluid communication with each other. Instead, the pods 220 to 230 are completely independent components ( Figure 2C ) or are fluidically isolated from each other by seams (e.g., seams 104, 104T, 104B, 220A, 222A, 224A, 226A, 228A, 230A). In some examples of the present technology, other structures and arrangements of capsule pods are possible. For example, similar to Figure 2C Individual bladder pods such as those in the Figure 2D Two or more interconnected capsule pods of the type shown in are used in combination (and connected via connectors such as 210A to 210F).
[0070] In addition, although Figure 2C and Figure 2D All pods are shown as being fluidically isolated from each other, but other configurations are possible. For example, Figure 2E The diagram is similar to Figure 2C and Figure 2D The bladder system 100 is similar to the bladder system shown in FIG. 1 , but the bladder chamber defining seams are shaped to form fluid passages between adjacent bladder pods.
[0071] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2EThe capsule system 100 includes: (i) a first capsule pod 220 including a first seam 220A defining a first interior capsule chamber 220C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas); and (ii) a second capsule pod 222 including a second seam 222A defining a second interior capsule chamber 222C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A first fluid passage 260A extends between and connects the first interior capsule chamber 220C and the second interior capsule chamber 222C, and thereby places the first interior capsule chamber 220C in fluid communication with the second interior capsule chamber 222C. In the illustrated example, the first joining seam portion 262A extends between and connects the first seam 220A and the second seam 222A (eg, the first joining seam portion 262A may be located above and / or below the first fluid channel 260A).
[0072] The first connector 210A and the first joining seam portion 262A join the first seam 220A and the second seam 222A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the first connector 210A can include or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the first seam 220A and the second seam 222A). However, the first connector 210A need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The first connector 210A can be installed across an opening 250A that extends between and separates the first bladder pod 220 from the second bladder pod 222. In the illustrated example, the first connector 210A (and the first opening 250A) extend upward to the top edge 100TE of the bladder system 100. Such openings 250A, when present, may allow for more relative movement between first capsule pod 220 and second capsule pod 222 (eg, as a wearer moves within article of footwear 1000 ).
[0073] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2EThe bladder system 100 also includes a third bladder pod 224 that includes a third seam 224A that defines a third internal bladder chamber 224C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A second fluid passage 260B extends between and connects the second internal bladder chamber 222C and the third internal bladder chamber 224C, and thereby places the second internal bladder chamber 222C in fluid communication with the third internal bladder chamber 224C. In the illustrated example, a second joining seam portion 262B extends between and connects the second seam 222A and the third seam 224A (e.g., the second joining seam portion 262B can be located above and / or below the second fluid passage 260B).
[0074] In addition, the second connector 210B and the second joining seam portion 262B join the second seam 222A and the third seam 224A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the second connector 210B can include or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the second seam 222A and the third seam 224A). However, the second connector 210B does not need to be an elastic connector (for example, if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The second connector 210B can be installed across an opening 250B that extends between and separates the second bladder pod 222 from the third bladder pod 224. In the illustrated example, the second connector 210B (and the second opening 250B) extend upward to the top edge 100TE of the bladder system 100. Such openings 250B, when present, may allow for more relative movement between second capsule pod 222 and third capsule pod 224 (eg, as a wearer moves within article of footwear 1000 ).
[0075] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2EThe bladder system 100 also includes a fourth bladder pod 226 that includes a fourth seam 226A that defines a fourth internal bladder chamber 226C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A third fluid passage 260C extends between and connects the third internal bladder chamber 224C and the fourth internal bladder chamber 226C, and thereby places the third internal bladder chamber 224C in fluid communication with the fourth internal bladder chamber 226C. In the illustrated example, a third joining seam portion 262C extends between and connects the third seam 224A and the fourth seam 226A (e.g., the third joining seam portion 262C can be located above and / or below the third fluid passage 260C).
[0076] In addition, the third connector 210C and the third joining seam portion 262C join the third seam 224A and the fourth seam 226A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the third connector 210C can include or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the third seam 224A and the fourth seam 226A). However, the third connector 210C does not need to be an elastic connector (for example, if one or more of the other connectors in the bag system 100 are elastic connectors). The third connector 210C can be installed across an opening 250C that extends between and separates the third bag pod 224 from the fourth bag pod 226. In the illustrated example, the third connector 210C (and the third opening 250C) extends upward to the top edge 100TE of the bag system 100. Such openings 250C, when present, may allow for more relative movement between third capsule pod 224 and fourth capsule pod 226 (eg, as a wearer moves within article of footwear 1000 ).
[0077] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2EThe bladder system 100 also includes a fifth bladder pod 228 that includes a fifth seam 228A that defines a fifth internal bladder chamber 228C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A fourth fluid channel 260D extends between and connects the fourth internal bladder chamber 226C and the fifth internal bladder chamber 228C, and thereby places the fourth internal bladder chamber 226C in fluid communication with the fifth internal bladder chamber 228C. In the illustrated example, a fourth joining seam portion 262D extends between and connects the fourth seam 226A and the fifth seam 228A (e.g., the fourth joining seam portion 262D can be located above and / or below the fourth fluid channel 260D).
[0078] In addition, the fourth connector 210D and the fourth joining seam portion 262D join the fourth seam 226A and the fifth seam 228A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the fourth connector 210D can include or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the fourth seam 226A and the fifth seam 228A). However, the fourth connector 210D does not need to be an elastic connector (for example, if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The fourth connector 210D can be installed across an opening 250D that extends between and separates the fourth bladder pod 226 from the fifth bladder pod 228. In the illustrated example, the fourth connector 210D (and the fourth opening 250D) extend upward to the top edge 100TE of the bladder system 100. Such openings 250D, when present, may allow for more relative movement between fourth capsule pod 226 and fifth capsule pod 228 (eg, as a wearer moves within article of footwear 1000 ).
[0079] Figure 2A , Figure 2B and Figure 2EThe bladder system 100 also includes a sixth bladder pod 230 that includes a sixth seam 230A that defines a sixth internal bladder chamber 230C (e.g., filled with a fluid, such as a gas). A fifth fluid passage 260E extends between and connects the fifth internal bladder chamber 228C and the sixth internal bladder chamber 230C, and thereby places the fifth internal bladder chamber 228C in fluid communication with the sixth internal bladder chamber 230C. In the illustrated example, a fifth joining seam portion 262E extends between and connects the fifth seam 228A and the sixth seam 230A (e.g., the fifth joining seam portion 262E may be located above and / or below the fifth fluid passage 260E).
[0080] In addition, the fifth connector 210E and the fifth joining seam portion 262E join the fifth seam 228A and the sixth seam 230A. In at least some examples of the present technology, the fifth connector 210E can include or be formed of an elastic material (and thereby form an elastic connector that joins the fifth seam 228A and the sixth seam 230A). However, the fifth connector 210E need not be an elastic connector (e.g., if one or more of the other connectors in the bladder system 100 are elastic connectors). The fifth connector 210E can be installed across an opening 250E that extends between and separates the fifth bladder pod 228 from the sixth bladder pod 230. In the illustrated example, the fifth connector 210E (and the fifth opening 250E) extend upward to the top edge 100TE of the bladder system 100. Such openings 250E, when present, may allow for more relative movement between fifth capsule pod 228 and sixth capsule pod 230 (eg, as a wearer moves within article of footwear 1000 ).
[0081] Figure 2E Also shown are sixth connector 210F and sixth capsule pod 230 of this example including portions of a releasable fastener system 212 , for example, to enable sixth capsule pod 230 to engage with first capsule pod 220 . Figure 2E The releasable fastener system 212 may have the above combined Figure 2C Any features or options of the fastener system 212 described herein may be omitted. Alternatively, if desired, the releasable fastener system may be omitted, and Figure 2E The capsule system 100 may be secured in a Figure 2A and 2B The circular arrangement shown (eg, first capsule pod 220 connected to sixth capsule pod 230).
[0082] Although Figure 2EAll of the capsule pods 220-230 are shown in fluid communication with each other (via fluid channels 260A-260E), but this is not required. Instead, if desired, in at least some examples of the present technology, one or more of the capsule pods 220-230 can be fluidically isolated from one or more of the other capsule pods 220-230. Additionally or alternatively, subsets of the capsule pods 220-230 can be fluidically connected to each other, but fluidly isolated from one or more other subsets of the capsule pods 220-230.
[0083] Additionally or alternatively, in Figure 2E In some examples of this aspect of the technology shown, Figure 2E The structure shown can be inverted vertically so that the fluid channels 260A to 260E and / or the connecting seam portions 262A to 262E are disposed at the top of the bladder system 100. As yet another option, if desired, Figure 2E The bladder system 100 may be configured such that one or more of the fluid channels 260A-260E and / or the joining seam portions 262A-262E are located at a top region of the bladder system 100, and one or more of the fluid channels 260A-260E and / or the joining seam portions 262A-262E are located at a bottom region of the bladder system 100. Still additionally or alternatively, if desired, one or more of the fluid channels 260A-260E and / or the joining seam portions 262A-262E may be located in a central region of the height dimension of the bladder system 100.
[0084] Combined with the above FIG. 2A to FIG. 2F The depicted example bladder system 100 includes six bladder pods 220-230 dispersed around the ankle and / or heel support areas of the footwear upper base component 102 and / or the article of footwear 1000. Other options are possible, for example, options including more or fewer bladder pods. As some more specific examples, such bladder systems may have 2 to 12 bladder pods, 3 to 10 bladder pods, or even 3 to 8 bladder pods. As a more specific example, Figure 2G Provides similar Figure 2F view, but in Figure 2G In the capsule system 100, four capsule pods 220, 222, 224 and 230 are provided. These capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 230 can have the above FIG. 2A to FIG. 2F pod structure described herein, but with four pods instead of six pods (e.g., fourth capsule pod 230 is permanently or releasably engaged with first capsule pod 220 via connector 210F, and in some instances, is releasably engaged using releasable fastener system 212). Thus, Figure 2GThe four capsule pods 220, 222, 224 and 230 in the structure can be independent and separate components, and the four capsule pods 220, 222, 224 and 230 are connected to each other only by connectors 210A, 210B, 210C and 210F (optionally with releasable fasteners 212), as shown in the above combination Figure 2C described. Alternatively, Figure 2G The four capsule pods 220, 222, 224 and 230 in the structure can be fluid-isolated capsule pods, and the four capsule pods 220, 222, 224 and 230 are, for example, combined as above. Figure 2D Alternatively, the described joining seam portions 104T and / or 104B are joined to each other as a single part. Figure 2G The four capsule pods 220, 222, 224 and 230 in the structure can be capsule pods that are joined to each other as a single part and are in fluid communication with each other, for example, as shown in the above combination Figure 2E As another alternative, you can Figure 2G A mixture of independent and co-associated capsule pods is provided in a structure (e.g., FIG. 2C to FIG. 2E ).
[0085] Although other arrangements are possible, in some examples of the present technology, capsule pods (e.g., 220-230) and one or more elastic connectors (e.g., the above combination Figures 2A to 2G The size, shape, and / or positioning of the connectors 210A-210F described above on the upper base member 102 may be such that the bladder system 100 extends around the foot or leg of the wearer at the ankle region. The elastic connectors (e.g., one or more of 210A-210F) may enable the bladder system 100 to fit snugly around the ankle and / or heel region of the wearer. The elastic connectors (e.g., one or more of 210A-210F) may also allow some relative movement between the bladder pods (e.g., two or more of the bladder pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, and / or 230), for example, as the wearer moves in the article of footwear 1000. In this manner, the bladder system 100 provides support and fit, and once the forces from the wearer's movement are removed or sufficiently relaxed, the bladder system 100 returns to its original size, shape, and / or position.
[0086] Figure 3A and Figure 3B A lateral view and a medial view, respectively, of a footwear upper chassis component 102 having another example bladder system 100 engaged therewith are shown. FIG. 3A to FIG. 3B Use with Figures 1A to 2GWhere the same reference numerals are used throughout, the same or similar parts are referenced (e.g., with any of the above options or alternatives), and much overlapping disclosure may be omitted. The upper base component 102 may be joined to the sole structure 1004, for example, in the same manner and / or of the same type as described above.
[0087] FIG. 3A to FIG. 3B The example bladder system 100 includes three bladder pods: (i) a lateral bladder pod 300, (ii) a medial bladder pod 302, and (iii) a rear central bladder pod 304 located between the lateral bladder pod 300 and the medial bladder pod 302. The central bladder pod 304 of this example extends from the lateral side to the medial side of the upper chassis component 102 around the rear heel and / or ankle receiving area of the upper chassis component 102. The example rear central bladder pod 304 is open to allow fluid to move freely within the interior chamber 304C between the medial and lateral sides.
[0088] In the illustrated example, the interior chamber 300C of the outer capsule pod 300, the interior chamber 302C of the inner capsule pod 302, and the interior chamber 304C of the rear center capsule pod 304 are fluidically isolated from each other. Specifically, these interior chambers 300C, 302C, 304C are fluidically isolated from each other by a sealed seam 104 (e.g., where the interior surfaces 100AI and 100BI of the two thermoplastic elastomer sheets 100A, 100B are joined together, as shown in the above combination Figure 1D described) are separated from each other. Similar to Figures 1A to 1C For example, Figure 3A and Figure 3B The bladder system 100 does not completely surround the wearer's foot and / or leg (eg, the bladder system 100 has a front lateral end or edge 108L and a front medial end or edge 108M).
[0089] The example bladder system 100 includes an outer elastic connector 310L and an inner elastic connector 310M. In some examples of the present technology, the outer bladder pod 300 can be a separate and independent component from the rear central bladder pod 304, and the outer elastic connector 310L can be combined with the inner elastic connector 310M, for example. Figure 2C The outer bladder pod 300 and the rear central bladder pod 304 are connected in the manner described above. Alternatively, the outer bladder pod 300 can be connected to the rear central bladder pod 304, for example, via a connecting seam portion, and these pods 300, 304 can be fluidly isolated from each other. In such a structure, the outer elastic connector 310L can be combined with the above Figure 2DThe outer elastic connector 310L can be installed across the groove, slot or opening 250 (e.g., similar to the openings 250A to 250E), for example, as described above in conjunction with Figure 2D Such grooves, slots or openings 250 may allow for better relative movement between the outer capsule pods 300 and the rear central capsule pod 304 .
[0090] Additionally or alternatively, in some examples of the present technology, the medial capsule pod 302 can be a separate and independent component from the rear central capsule pod 304, and the medial elastic connector 310M can be combined with the above, for example. Figure 2C The inner capsule pod 302 and the rear central capsule pod 304 are connected in the manner described above. Alternatively, the inner capsule pod 302 can be connected to the rear central capsule pod 304, for example, via a connecting seam portion, and these capsule pods 302, 304 can be fluidly isolated from each other. In such a structure, the inner elastic connector 310M can be combined with the above Figure 2D The inner elastic connector 310M can be installed across the groove, slot or opening 250 (e.g., similar to the openings 250A to 250E), for example, as described above in conjunction with Figure 2D Such grooves, slots or openings 250 may allow for better relative movement between the medial capsule pod 302 and the rear central capsule pod 304 .
[0091] Still additionally or alternatively, at least two of the lateral capsule pods 300, medial capsule pods 302, and / or rear central capsule pods 304 may be in fluid communication with each other. This may be accomplished, for example, via one or more fluid pathways (similar to the above in conjunction with Figures 1A to 1C The fluid passage 132 described above) and / or through one or more fluid channels (similar to the above combined Figure 2E This is achieved by using the fluid channels 260A to 260E) described above.
[0092] While other arrangements are possible, in some examples of the present technology, the bladder pods 300, 302, 304 and one or more elastic connectors 310L, 310M may be sized, shaped, and / or positioned on the upper base member 102 such that the bladder system 100 extends around the sides and back of the wearer's foot and / or leg at the ankle and / or heel area. The elastic connectors (e.g., one or more of 310L and / or 310M) may enable the bladder system 100 to fit snugly around the ankle and / or heel area of the wearer. The elastic connectors 310L and / or 310M may also allow some relative movement between the bladder pods 300, 302, 304, for example, when the wearer is moving in a manner that includes FIG. 3A to FIG. 3B In this way, bladder system 100 provides support and fit, and once the force from the wearer's movement is removed or sufficiently relaxed, bladder system 100 returns to its original size, shape and / or position.
[0093] Figure 4 A footwear upper chassis component 102 is illustrated having another example bladder system 100 coupled thereto. Figure 4 Use with Figures 1A to 3B Where the same reference numerals are used throughout, the same or similar parts are referenced (e.g., with any of the above options or alternatives), and much overlapping disclosure may be omitted. The upper base component 102 may be joined to the sole structure 1004, for example, in the same manner and / or of the same type as described above.
[0094] Figure 4 The rear portion of the upper base component 102 (formed from one or more parts) is shown as an upper blank in a flat configuration (eg, before it is fully secured together to form a formed upper) with the flat bladder system 100 applied thereto. Figure 4 The illustrated structure of includes: (a) a solid line at the top of the upper base member 102 to illustrate the top line 102T of the low top upper structure, and (b) a dashed line at the top of the upper base member 102 to illustrate the top line 102H of the high top upper structure. In this illustrated example, the bladder system 100 is located slightly lower in the heel area of the upper base member 102, for example, to support the heel and / or lower ankle area. However, a similarly structured bladder system 100 can be positioned further up in the heel and / or ankle area and / or extend further up, for example, as Figures 1A to 3B shown.
[0095] exist Figure 4 In the example, similar to Figures 1A to 1C , Figure 3A and Figure 3BIn an example, bladder system 100 extends around a rear region of a wearer's foot and / or leg, but does not completely surround the wearer's foot and / or leg (e.g., bladder system 100 does not extend across a front or instep region of upper base member 102). Instead, Figure 4 The bladder system 100 has an anterior lateral end or edge 108L and an anterior medial end or edge 108M.
[0096] Figure 4 The capsule system 100 includes seven capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232. The seams (e.g., Figure 1D As shown, similar seams 104) 220A, 222A, 224A, 226A, 228A, 230A, 232A formed between the inner surfaces 100AI, 100BI of the two thermoplastic elastomer sheets 100A, 100B respectively define the internal capsule chambers 220C, 222C, 224C, 226C, 228C, 230C, 232C of the capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232. In the illustrated example: (a) capsule pod 220 provides front medial heel and / or ankle support; (b) capsule pod 222 provides mid-medial heel and / or ankle support; (c) capsule pod 224 provides rear medial heel and / or ankle support; (d) capsule pod 226 bridges the central rear heel and / or ankle area from the medial to the lateral side of footwear base upper component 102; (e) capsule pod 228 provides rear lateral heel and / or ankle support; (f) capsule pod 230 provides mid-lateral heel and / or ankle support; and (g) capsule pod 232 provides front lateral heel and / or ankle support. However, in some examples of the present technology, Figure 4 The structure may include more or fewer capsule pods.
[0097] The seams 220A, 222A, 224A, 226A, 228A, 230A, 232A between adjacent bladder interior chambers 220C, 222C, 224C, 226C, 228C, 230C, 232C are joined by connectors 210A-210F. More specifically, in the illustrated example: (a) connector 210A extends between and joins capsule pods 220 and 222 (e.g., joins seams 220A and 222A); (b) connector 210B extends between and joins capsule pods 222 and 224 (e.g., joins seams 222A and 224A); (c) connector 210C extends between and joins capsule pods 224 and 226 (e.g., joins seams 224A and 224A); 226A); (d) connector 210D extends between and joins capsule pods 226 and 228 (e.g., joins seams 226A and 228A); (e) connector 210E extends between and joins capsule pods 228 and 230 (e.g., joins seams 228A and 230A); and (f) connector 210F extends between and joins capsule pods 230 and 232 (e.g., joins seams 230A and 232A). One or more of connectors 210A-210F may include an elastic connector (e.g., made of and / or configured to include an elastic material).
[0098] Figure 4 The capsule system 100 structure includes capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232, which are formed to be connected via connectors 210A to 210F (e.g., in the above combination Figure 2C 210A-210F). Thus, the interior chambers 220C, 222C, 224C, 226C, 228C, 230C, 232C of the pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232, respectively, are not in fluid communication with one another.
[0099] Alternatively, if necessary, Figure 4 The capsule system 100 may be combined with the above Figure 2DThe pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232 are formed as a single component, but the pod interior chambers 220C, 222C, 224C, 226C, 228C, 230C, 232C remain fluidly isolated from each other (i.e., not in fluid communication). In such a configuration, a Figure 2D 104T (or other joining seam portions) to extend and / or join between the seams 220A, 222A, 224A, 226A, 228A, 230A, 232A of adjacent capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232. Additionally, if desired, the connectors 210A to 210F may span openings (e.g., Figure 2D 250A to 250E are shown as being mounted in an opening of the type shown in FIG.
[0100] As another alternative, if desired, Figure 4 The capsule system 100 may be combined with the above Figure 2E The invention can be constructed in the manner described above, for example, wherein the capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232 are formed as a single component part, and two or more of the capsule pod internal chambers 220C, 222C, 224C, 226C, 228C, 230C, 232C are in fluid communication with each other. In such a structure, two or more fluid passages (e.g., similar to Figure 2E The elements 260A to 260E in the embodiment of the present invention are provided to allow the desired internal chambers 220C, 222C, 224C, 226C, 228C, 230C, 232C to be fluidly connected to each other. The elastic connector (e.g., Figure 4One or more of 210A to 210F in the embodiment of the present invention may also allow some relative movement between the capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232, for example, when the wearer is in a position including Figure 4 In this way, bladder system 100 provides support and fit, and once the force from the wearer's movement is removed or sufficiently relaxed, bladder system 100 returns to its original size, shape and / or position.
[0102] FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C Provides similar FIG. 2C to FIG. 2E view, but FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C Alternative bladder system configurations according to some aspects and examples of the present technology are illustrated. FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C Used in other diagrams (including FIG. 2C to FIG. 2E ) are referenced to the same or similar parts (e.g., with any of the options or alternatives described above), and much overlapping disclosure may be omitted. FIG. 2C to FIG. 2E In the example of , capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228 and 230 are connected by separate and independent elastic connectors 210A, 210B, 210C, 210D, 210E and 210F. On the other hand, in FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C In the example of the present invention, two or more of the pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, and 230 are coupled by a single elastic member 210. Additionally or alternatively, if desired, the single elastic connector 210 can form a base upper component 102, such as an upper component to which one or more of the pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, and 230 are connected, such as by adhesive-free or adhesive bonding, by stitching, etc. FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C Portions of the elastic member 210 and / or upper chassis component 102 are illustrated as being coupled to all of the illustrated capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, and 230. As shown, portions of the elastic member 210 or elastic material portions of the upper chassis component 102 span and / or are located in one or more of the gaps or openings (250A to 250E) between adjacent capsule pods 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, and 230. However, in other constructions, a single elastic member 210 and / or upper chassis component 102 may be coupled to any desired number of capsule pods (e.g., any two or more of 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, and 230). Additionally, FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C The elastic member 210 and / or the upper base member 102 shown in FIG. 1 may be extended to provide any desired shape or structure, including, for example, shapes and / or structures suitable for providing and / or being connected to a footwear upper and / or article of footwear structure.
[0103] With FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C In a similar manner to the alternative structures shown in Figure 3A and Figure 3B One or more of the elastic connectors 310L, 310M may be replaced by a single elastic component that couples two or more of the bladder chambers 300C, 302C, 304C and / or forms a backing layer to which one or more of the bladder chambers 300C, 302C, 304C are attached. Such an elastic component may also form one of the footwear upper and / or footwear upper base components 102 of the footwear article structure.
[0104] In addition, FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C In a similar manner to the alternative structures shown in Figure 4 One or more of the elastic connectors 210A, 210B, 210C, 210D, 210E, 210F may be replaced by a single elastic component that joins two or more of the capsule pods 220, 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232 and / or forms a backing layer to which one or more of the capsule pods 220, 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232 are attached. Such an elastic component may also form one of the footwear upper and / or footwear upper base components 102 of the footwear article structure.
[0105] In the above examples, various elastic connectors (e.g., one or more of 150, 210A to 210F, 310L, 310M) can be fabric-type elastic connectors. Such connectors can be engaged with the capsule system 100 by sewing or suturing. As an example, sewing or suturing can extend through the seams of the fabric-type elastic connector and the capsule pods to be connected by the fabric-type elastic connector. As another example, the ends of the fabric-type elastic connectors can be looped through the openings (e.g., 250, 250A to 250E) in the seams of the capsule pods, and then the free ends of the fabric-type elastic connectors can be sewed to themselves. Additionally or alternatively, in some examples of the present technology, one or more (and optionally all) of the elastic connectors can include hardware-type elastic connectors (e.g., springs). Such hardware-type elastic connectors can be engaged with the seams of the capsule pods and extend between the seams of the capsule pods.
[0106] The bladder system 100 according to aspects of the present technology can adjust and conform to the shape of the wearer's foot and / or leg, for example, due to: (a) the ability of fluid to move within and / or between the bladder pods and / or (b) the ability of the elastic members to stretch and change their (their) size and / or shape. Thus, the bladder system 100 according to aspects of the present technology provides support and fit around the wearer's foot; once the forces from the wearer's movement are removed or sufficiently relaxed, the bladder system returns to its (their) original size, shape and / or position; and / or provides impact force attenuation properties, for example, to protect the wearer's ankle and / or heel.
