Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of paper converting for producing paper material in packages of interfolded sheets. In particular, the present invention relates to a cutting roller for a folding machine.

[0002] Generally speaking, a folder may be provided with a cutting roller having a plurality of blades arranged and configured to cut a paper strip fed into the folder into a plurality of paper strips or sheets which are to be successively folded and interfolded relative to each other to achieve packaging of the paper strips or sheets.

[0003] In detail, the cutting operation is performed by a blade in contact with an opposing blade carried by a fixed longitudinal element: in fact, during the stretching of the strip, the cutting of the strip occurs when the blade and the opposing blade are arranged so that their cutting profiles are in contact.

[0004] The length of the blade and the counter blade is equal to the width of the paper strip, so that the paper strip is cut over its entire width. Background Art

[0005] A known cutting roller (100) for a folding machine comprises: a body (101) which is rotatably actuated relative to its axis; at least a blade (102) carried by the body (101); a blade block insert (103) carried by the body (101) and arranged to have a first portion (104) at least partially in contact with at least the blade (102) and a second portion (105) at least partially in contact with the body (101); a fixing device (106) arranged to fix the blade block insert (102) and the body (101) to each other. The fixing device (106) comprises a screw (107) and a hole (108), the hole (108) passing through the blade block insert (103) and at least partially through the body (101), and the hole (108) is adapted to receive the screw (107). In detail, when the screw (107) is inserted into the hole (108) to fix the blade block insert (103) and the main body (101) to each other, the screwing determines the relative movement of the blade block insert (103) relative to the second part (105) contacting the main body (101), that is, the rotation of the blade block insert (103) towards at least the blade (102), so that the first part (104) can contact at least the blade (102), and during the rotational actuation of the cutting roller (100), the blade (102) is maintained in a predetermined position between the blade block insert (103) and the main body (101).

[0006] However, it has been found that the above-mentioned contact between the blade block insert (103) and at least the blade (102) causes the blade block insert (103) to exert an uneven pressing force on at least the blade (102) along the entire relative contact area between the blade block insert (103) and at least the blade (102).

[0007] After screwing the screw (107) into the hole (108), the blade block insert (103) will rotate relative to the second part (105), namely the first abutment area (R1) between the blade block insert (103) and the body (101), and will contact at least the blade (102) at the second and third abutment areas (R2, R3), and the second and third abutment areas (R2, R3) will define a plane that is not parallel to the plane defined by at least the blade (102).

[0008] This results in bending events of at least the blade (102) during the rotary actuation of the body (101) and therefore during the cutting operation: in practice, the result is insufficient precision and cleanliness of the cut to be made, as well as incorrect positioning of the cut to be made along the paper strip.

[0009] In other words, the portion of the cutting roller (100) to which the blade block insert (103) relates will have three adjoining areas (R1, R2, R3) between the blade block insert (103) and the body (101). In this way, during the rotational actuation of the body (101), the bending of at least the blade (102) is demonstrated by the fact that the portion will behave as a hyperstatic system and therefore have a number of degrees of constraint greater than the number of degrees of freedom: in fact, in this way, the static properties of the structure do not exist, since it will be shown to remain movable. Summary of the invention

[0010] In view of the above, an object of the present invention is to eliminate the above disadvantages.

[0011] The above object is achieved by a cutting roller for a folding machine according to claim 1 or claim 7.

[0012] The cutting roller for an inner folder, object of the present invention, is advantageously configured with a first abutment area and a second abutment area between the body and the insert.

[0013] In this way, the portion of the cutting roller affected by the insert and the blade will work in the manner of an isostatic system and will ensure static conditions of the structure, limiting the possibility of movement of the blade during use, the blade being interposed between the body and the insert.

[0014] According to the first or second invention, the fixing device for fixing the body and the insert to each other will ensure that the pressing force applied by the insert on the first end of the blade is uniform along the affected part of the blade. In the case of the first invention, the pressing force will be applied by the pressing element, while in the case of the second invention, the pressing force will be applied by the insert.

[0015] In other words, once the fixing device for fixing the main body and the insert to each other has been arranged, the insert will play the following role: in the case of the first invention, the pressing force acting on the blade and the main body will define the first adjacent area and the second adjacent area between the main body and the insert; and in the case of the second invention, the pressing force acting on the blade will define the first adjacent area and the second adjacent area between the main body and the insert.

[0016] It follows that in this way a cutting roller is obtained which will perform a precise and clean cutting operation, optimizing the quality of the final product and reducing the risk of machine stops for the removal of paper which may have adhered to the blade surface. [0031] With reference to the accompanying drawings, reference numeral (1) denotes as a whole a cutting roller of a folding machine for the purpose of the present invention.

[0032] According to a first invention, a cutting roller (1) comprises: a body (2) which is rotatably actuated relative to its axis (X) and comprises a first seat (3) defined by a missing portion formed on an opposite outer side surface (4); an insert (5) arranged to be inserted into the first seat (3), carried by the body (2) and comprising a first through hole (6) which, when the insert (5) is inserted into the first seat (3), connects the body (2) to the external environment; a blade (7) arranged to be inserted between the body (2) and the insert (5) and comprising a first end (7a) and a second end (7b) opposite to each other. In addition, the body (2) comprises a second seat (8). Furthermore, the cutting roller (1) comprises: a pressing element (9) carried by the insert (5) and interposed between the insert (5) and the main body (2); a supporting device (10) connected to the insert (5) and arranged to support the pressing element (9) so that it contacts the first end (7a) of the blade (7) during use; when the insert (5) is received in the first seat (3), the first through hole (6) and the second seat (8) are arranged to be aligned with each other; and a fixing device (11) positioned to cross the first through hole (6) and be received in the second seat (8) so as to fix the main body (2) and the insert (5) to each other. The fixing device (11), the pressing element (9), the insert (5) and the body (2) are configured so that during use, once the fixing device (11) has been positioned and the body (2) and the insert (5) have been fixed to each other, the pressing element (9) exerts a pressing force on the blade (7), so that the body (2) and the insert (5) hold the blade (7) in place, defining between them a first abutment zone (Z1) and a second abutment zone (Z2) (see Figure 2-4 ).

[0033] In detail, after the positioning fixing device (11), in order to fix the main body (2) and the insert (5) to each other, the pressing element (9) applies a pressing force to the blade (7) at the first adjacent area (Z1); at the same time, the insert (5) applies additional pressure on the main body (2) at the second adjacent area (Z2).

[0034] The fixing means (11) and the supporting means (10) are preferably different from each other.

[0035] The support of the pressing element ( 9 ) and the fixation between the body ( 2 ) and the insert ( 5 ) advantageously take place in different ways, making it possible to intervene independently on one or the other.

[0036] In other words, it is possible to intervene on the support means ( 10 ) in order to adjust the pressure on the pressing element ( 9 ) on the blade ( 7 ) without interfering with the pressure exerted by the insert ( 5 ) on the body ( 2 ).

[0037] The first abutment zone (Z1) is preferably identified in the contact area between the pressing element (9) and the blade (7), and the second abutment zone (Z2) is identified in the contact area between the insert (5) and the body (2).

[0038] Once the fixing means (11) for fixing the body (2) and the insert (5) to each other are arranged, the insert (5) will advantageously exert a pressing force on the body (2) by direct contact, and the pressing element (9) will exert a pressing force on the blade (7) by direct contact.

[0039] Therefore, the pressing element (9) and the blade (7) can contact each other only in the first abutment zone (Z1); and the insert (5) and the body (2) can contact each other only in the second abutment zone (Z2).

[0040] Next, during use, the body (2) and insert (5) hold the blade (7) in place between them.

[0041] The pressing element (9) is preferably carried by the insert (5) so as to be interposed between the insert (5) and the blade (7) in a first abutment zone (Z1).

[0042] The supporting means (10) advantageously supports the pressing element (9) so as to exert a pressing force on the blade (7) during use of the cutting roller (1), thereby holding the blade (7) in place between the body (2) and the insert (5).

[0043] The fixing means (11) may comprise a screw (11a) and the supporting means (10) may comprise a second screw (10a) which carries the pressing element (9) (see Figure 4B and 7A ).

[0044] According to this embodiment of the invention, the insert (5) may comprise a second hole (24) adapted to receive a second screw (10a).

[0045] In detail, the pressing element (9) is fixed by the insert (5) by means of a second screw (10a) so that it remains in place during use, so as to be in contact with the first end (7a) of the blade (7).

[0046] The insert (5) may include a housing (26).

[0047] The housing (26) may be adapted to receive the pressing element (9) such that it contacts the first end (7a) of the blade (7).

[0048] The pressing element (9) may have a portion adapted to receive a head of a second screw (10a) arranged at the second hole (24).

[0049] As an example, the second screw (10a) may be a countersunk screw.

[0050] refer to Figure 4A and 4B When the insert (5) is received in the first seat (3), the second screw (10a) passes through the second hole (24). According to the first invention, the insert (5) may include a plurality of second through holes (25), and the plurality of second through holes (25) include the second hole (24).

[0051] According to the second invention, the cutting roller (1) comprises: a body (2) which can be actuated in rotation relative to its axis (X) and which comprises a first seat (3) defined by a missing portion formed on the opposite outer side surface (4); an insert (5) arranged to be inserted into the first seat (3), carried by the body (2) and comprising a first through hole (6) which, when the insert (5) is inserted into the first seat (3), connects the body (2) with the external environment; a blade (7) arranged to be inserted between the body (2) and the insert (5), comprising a first end (7a) and a second end (7b) opposite to each other and comprising a through opening (12) made on the first end (7a). In addition, the body (2) comprises a second seat (8) and a first through hole (6), the through opening (12) and the second seat (8) being arranged so as to be aligned with each other when the insert (5) is received in the first seat (3). Furthermore, the cutting roller (1) comprises fixing means (11) positioned to intersect the first through hole (6) and the through opening (12) so as to be received in the second seat (8) to fix the body (2) and the insert (5) to each other.

[0052] The fixing device (11), the insert (5) and the body (2) are configured so that during use, once the fixing device (11) has been positioned and the body (2) and the insert (5) are fixed to each other, the insert (5) and the body (2) hold the blade (7) in a position defining a first abutment zone (Z1) and a second abutment zone (Z2) between them (see Figure 5-Figure 7 ).

[0053] In detail, after positioning the fixing device (11), in order to fix the body (2) and the insert (5) to each other, the insert (5) applies a pressing force to the blade (7) at the first abutment area (Z1) and the second abutment area (Z2).

[0054] Next, during use, the body (2) and insert (5) hold the blade (7) in place between them.

[0055] In other words, for the first and second inventions, the body (2) and the insert (5) can hold the blade (7) in a position defining only the first abutment zone (Z1) and the second abutment zone (Z2) between each other.

[0056] According to the second invention, a first abutment zone (Z1) can be identified in the first contact area between the insert (5) and the blade (7).

[0057] Furthermore, also according to the second invention, a second abutment zone (Z2) can be identified in the second contact zone between the insert (5) and the blade (7).

[0058] Therefore, the insert (5) and the blade (7) may be in contact with each other only at the first abutment zone (Z1) and the second abutment zone (Z2).

[0059] According to the above-mentioned embodiment of the second invention, the first seat (3) may include a first wall (3a) and a second wall (3b) arranged at an angle to each other; the second wall (3b) may include a first adjacent portion (30a) and a second adjacent portion (30b) arranged opposite to each other; the insert (5) may include: a third wall (5a), the third wall is arranged to be adjacent to the first wall (3a); a fourth wall (5b), the fourth wall is arranged to face the second wall (3b); a fifth wall (5c), the fifth wall connects the third wall (5a) and the fourth wall (5b) to each other; the fourth wall (5b) may include a first protrusion (50a) and a second protrusion (50b); the fixing device (11) is arranged and configured so that during use, the first adjacent portion (30a) and the first protrusion (50a) and the second adjacent portion (30b) and the second protrusion (50b) clamp a part of the first end portion (7a) of the blade (7) between them.

[0060] The first abutment portion (30a) and the first projection (50a) on one side and the second abutment portion (30b) and the second projection (50b) on the other side advantageously accommodate the fixing device (11) laterally at the through-opening (12).

[0061] In detail, the blade (7) is held in position between the first abutment portion (30a) and the first protrusion (50a) and between the second abutment portion (30b) and the second protrusion (50b).

[0062] In other words, a portion of the first end portion (7a) of the blade (7) contacts the first abutting portion (30a) and the first protrusion (50a), while another portion of the first end portion (7a) contacts the second abutting portion (30b) and the second protrusion (50b) (see Fig. 7A ).

[0063] The insert (5) and the blade (7) may contact each other via the first protrusion (50a) and the second protrusion (50b) (see Fig. 7A ).

[0064] The body (2) and the blade (7) may contact each other via the first abutment portion (30a) and the second abutment portion (30b) (see Fig. 7A ).

[0065] Again according to the second invention, the first through hole (6) may be arranged to cross the fourth wall (5b) and the fifth wall (5c) (see Figure 7B ).

[0066] The first protrusion (50a) and the second protrusion (50b) may be arranged opposite to each other relative to the first through hole (6) (see Figure 7B ).

[0067] The fifth wall (5c) may complete the outer side surface (4) of the body (2) (see Fig. 7A ).

[0068] The blade (7) may be arranged to be interposed between the fourth wall (5b) of the insert and the second wall (3b) of the first seat (3).

[0069] The first abutment portion (30a) and the second abutment portion (30b) may be arranged opposite to each other relative to the second seat (8) (see Figure 7B ).

[0070] The body (2) may be cylindrical. In this case, the axis of rotation is defined by the height of the cylinder (see Figure 3 , 4 , 6 and 7).

[0071] The body (2) may be a tubular element (see Figure 3 , 4 , 6 and 7).

[0072] The body (2) may have a longitudinal extension (see Figure 3 , 4 , 6 and 7).

[0073] The first seat (3) may extend along the entire length of the body (2) (see Figure 3 and 6 ).

[0074] In other words, the first seat (3) may have a longitudinal extension (see Figure 3 and 6 ).

[0075] The outer side surface (4) may be a cylindrical surface.

[0076] The insert (5) may form a missing portion of the body (2).

[0077] The insert (5) and the first seat (3) may define a form coupled to each other.

[0078] The insert (5) may have a longitudinal extension (see Figure 3 , 4 , 6 and 7).

[0079] The insert (5) may extend along the entire length of the first seat (3) and thus along the entire length of the body (2) (see Figure 3 , 4 , 6 and 7).

[0080] The insert (5) may be made as a single body. Alternatively, the insert (5) may be formed in a plurality of parts which are arranged in the first seat (3), continuous with each other and along the body (2) (not shown).

[0081] The blades (7) may have a longitudinal extension (see Figure 3 and Figure 6 ).

[0082] The blade (7) may extend along the entire length of the first seat (3) or the body (2) (see Figure 3 and Figure 6 ).

[0083] The blade (7) may be made as a single body. Alternatively, the blade (7) may be formed in a plurality of lengths arranged to be interposed between the body (2) and the insert (5), consecutive to each other and along the body (2) (not shown).

[0084] The pressing element (9) may have a longitudinal extension (see Figure 3 ).

[0085] The pressing element (9) may extend along the entire length of the first seat (3) and thus along the entire length of the body (2) (see Figure 3 and Figure 4 ).

[0086] The pressing element (9) may be made in a single body. Alternatively, the pressing element (9) may be formed in a plurality of parts arranged to be interposed between the blade (7) and the insert (5), continuous with each other and along the body (2) (not shown).

[0087] The through opening (12) may be arranged at the first end (7a), ie the end contacting the body (2).

[0088] The pressing member (9) may include a first wall (9a) and a second wall (9b) facing each other (see Figure 4B).

[0089] When the insert (5) is received in the first seat (3), the first wall (9a) can abut the first end (7a) of the blade (7); while the second wall (9b) can abut the insert (5) (see Figure 4B ).

[0090] In other words, the first wall (9a) exerts pressure on the first end (7a) of the blade (7) at the first abutment zone (Z1) (see Figure 4B ).

[0091] The first seat (3) is preferably an undercut formed on the outer side surface (4) of the body (2).

[0092] The insert (5) advantageously completes the outer side surface (4) of the body (2).

[0093] The insert (5) may be adapted to define the missing portion of the body (2) when inserted into the first seat (3) (see Figure 4 and Figure 7 ).

[0094] The second end portion (7b) is preferably a cut portion of the blade (7) (see Figure 8 , 9 , 10 and 11).

[0095] The first end portion (7a), ie the non-cutting end, is advantageously the portion having the through opening (12) or the portion in contact with the pressing element (9).

[0096] The second end portion (7b) may at least partially protrude relative to the body (2) and the insert (5) (see Figure 8 and Fig. 9 ).

[0097] According to the second invention, when the blade (7) is arranged to be interposed between the insert (5) and the body (2), the extension axis of the screw (11a) can be perpendicular to the plane on which the blade (7) extends (see Fig. 7A and 7B ).

[0098] In the first and second inventions, the first abutment area (Z1) and the second abutment area (Z2) may be arranged opposite to each other with respect to the screw (11a) (see Figure 4B and Fig. 7A ).

[0099] In detail, according to the first invention, the screw (11a) is positioned to pass through the first through hole (6) and is received in the second seat (8) (see Figure 4B ).

[0100] Again in detail, but according to the second invention, the screw (11a) is positioned to traverse the first through hole (6), through the opening (12), and is received in the second seat (8) (see Fig. 7A ).

[0101] According to the first invention, the first seat (3) may include a first wall (3a) and a second wall (3b) arranged at an angle to each other, and the insert (5) may include: a third wall (5a) arranged to be adjacent to the first wall (3a); a fourth wall (5b) arranged to face the second wall (3b); and a fifth wall (5c) connecting the third wall (5a) and the fourth wall (5b) to each other (see Figure 4A and 4B ). In addition, referring to the first and second inventions, the second seat (8) may extend from the second wall (3b) (see Figure 4B and Fig. 7A ).

[0102] The second seat (8) may extend from the second wall (3b) of the first seat (3) toward the interior of the main body (2) (see Figure 4B and Fig. 7A ).

[0103] Referring again to the first invention, the blade (7) may be arranged to be interposed between a portion of the fourth wall (5b) of the insert (5) and a portion of the second wall (3b) of the first seat (3). The remaining portion of the fourth wall (5b) of the insert (5) and the remaining portion of the second wall (3b) of the first seat (3) face each other (see Figure 4A and Figure 4B ).

[0104] As an example, the body (2) may include a plurality of seats (13), and the cutting roller (1) may include a plurality of inserts (14) and a plurality of blades (15) (see Figure 3 , 4 , 6 and 7).

[0105] For each seat of the plurality of seats (13), each insert of the plurality of inserts (14) and each blade of the plurality of blades (15), the aforementioned considerations for the first seat (3), the insert (5) and the blade (7) are valid.

[0106] In detail, referring to the first invention, the cutting roller (1) may include a plurality of pressing elements (16) (see Figure 3 and 4 ).

[0107] For each of the plurality of pressure elements ( 16 ), the considerations as described above for the pressure element ( 9 ) are valid.
