Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a motor vehicle with a turbocharged internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1.
[0002] Downsizing, or engine displacement reduction combined with turbocharging, has proven to be an effective measure for reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from motor vehicles. In conjunction with direct fuel injection, this can generate significant potential for reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This is achieved primarily through reduced internal friction, shifting the engine's operating point to higher load ranges, and, not least, reducing the engine's weight through smaller displacement and / or a reduced number of cylinders. Charge air cooling is considered state-of-the-art for the most effective turbocharging of an internal combustion engine.
[0003] Fig. Figure 1 shows a schematic of a motor vehicle with a supercharged internal combustion engine 10, wherein the internal combustion engine 10 is in Fig. 1 comprises two cylinder banks or cylinder groups 11, each with three cylinders 12. Each cylinder group 11 is assigned an exhaust gas turbocharger 13, each exhaust gas turbocharger 13 comprising a turbine 14 and a compressor 15. Exhaust gas flowing from the cylinders 12 of the cylinder groups 11 is expanded in the turbines 14 of the exhaust gas turbochargers 13, whereby the energy gained here is used to drive the respective compressor 15 of the respective exhaust gas turbocharger 13 in order to compress charge air, which is guided through an air filter 16, in the compressors 15 of the exhaust gas turbochargers 13 and to direct the compressed charge air over charge air coolers 17 in order to cool the charge air compressed in the compressors 15 in the charge air coolers 17. Fig. 1 Each exhaust gas turbocharger 13 is assigned a separate charge air cooler 17, whereby the charge air, which leaves the charge air coolers 17 after cooling, is supplied to the cylinders 12 of the cylinder groups 11 via a common throttle valve 18 and a common collector 19. Fig. 1. Accordingly, the charge air flows downstream of the charge air cooler 17 and upstream of the throttle valve 18 are combined.
[0004] It should be noted at this point that it is also already known from the prior art to have a separate collector for each cylinder bank 11, whereby the cooled charge air leaving the charge air coolers 17 is then supplied to the respective collectors via separate throttle valves.
[0005] In conventional vehicles with a turbocharged internal combustion engine and multiple charge air coolers, the individual charge air coolers are designed as separate assemblies. When these separate charge air coolers are to be integrated into a vehicle with limited installation space, space constraints can arise. Furthermore, integrating several separate charge air coolers into a single vehicle results in disadvantages in terms of vehicle weight and installation time.
[0006] DE 10 2004 014 669 A1 discloses an intercooler for cooling charge air leaving a single turbocharger. The charge air leaving the turbocharger is split into two partial flows, namely a first partial flow and a second partial flow, which are supplied to the intercooler via separate lines. The intercooler comprises a first cooling section and a second cooling section, with each cooling section having an associated inlet section. Collector sections are separate and connect to a manifold via separate lines.
[0007] DE 10 2004 030 259 A1, WO 2005 / 116 415 A1, DE 10 2006 037 761 A1, US 7 426 921 B2 and DE 198 53 455 B4 disclose further state of the art.
[0008] Based on this, the present invention aims to create a novel motor vehicle with a turbocharged internal combustion engine and novel charge air cooling.
[0009] This problem is solved by a motor vehicle according to claim 1.
[0010] Several charge air coolers are arranged in a common housing, thus combining several charge air coolers into one module and therefore one assembly.
[0011] This allows for a compact design of the charge air cooling device, while also resulting in cost and weight advantages as well as a reduction in the required assembly time.
[0012] Preferred embodiments of the invention are described in the dependent claims and the following description. An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, without being limited thereto. The drawing shows: Fig. 1 a prior art design of a motor vehicle with a turbocharged internal combustion engine; Fig. 2 a schematic representation of a device for charge air cooling of a motor vehicle; Fig. 3 a schematic representation of a device for charge air cooling of a motor vehicle; Fig. 4 a schematic representation of a device for charge air cooling of a motor vehicle; Fig. 5 a schematic representation of a device for charge air cooling of a motor vehicle.
[0013] The present invention relates to a motor vehicle with a device for charge air cooling, namely for cooling charge air compressed in a compressor of at least one charging device and supplied to an internal combustion engine. For the purposes of the present invention, the charging device is designed as an exhaust gas turbocharger, G-charger, electric supercharger, or mechanical compressor.
[0014] Fig. Figure 2 shows a device 20 for charge air cooling according to the present invention, wherein in the Fig. 2 device 20 shown in a compressor of at least one exhaust gas turbocharger, the charge air compressed in it, which is to be supplied to an internal combustion engine, namely cylinders thereof, is cooled.
[0015] The device 20 according to Fig. 2 has a housing 21 in which several, namely two in the illustrated embodiment, charge air coolers 22, 23 are arranged. The two charge air coolers 22, 23 are arranged according to Fig. 2 are arranged in the housing 21 of the device 20 such that charge air coolers 22, 23 arranged in the common housing 21 can be supplied with charge air to be cooled via separate supply air chambers 24 and 25, respectively. Charge air to be cooled can be supplied to supply air chamber 24 in the direction of arrow 26 via a supply air connection 27, whereas charge air to be cooled can be supplied to supply air chamber 25 in the direction of arrow 28 via a supply air connection 29.
[0016] The charge air to be cooled, introduced into the intake air chamber 24, is guided over the charge air cooler 22 in the direction of arrow 30, whereas the charge air to be cooled, supplied to the intake air chamber 25, is guided over the charge air cooler 23 in the direction of arrow 31.
[0017] The housing 21 of the device 20, in which the two charge air coolers 22 and 23 are positioned, also provides a common exhaust chamber 32, wherein, in accordance with arrows 30 and 31, both the charge air passed over the charge air cooler 22 and the charge air cooler 23 are directed into the exhaust chamber 32 in order to be mixed in the exhaust chamber 32 and to be discharged as cooled charge air in the direction of arrow 33 via an exhaust port 34 of the exhaust chamber 32 from the device 20 and supplied to the internal combustion engine.
[0018] The in Fig. The device 20 shown for charge air cooling can be used in exchange for the one shown in Fig. 1 shown, designed as separate assemblies, are used charge air coolers 17, whereby cooled charge air is then supplied from the exhaust port 34 to the common throttle valve 18 and the common collector 19 of the cylinder banks 11.
[0019] Then, if an internal combustion engine has, for example, twelve or sixteen cylinders, four exhaust gas turbochargers can be present, with one exhaust gas turbocharger being assigned to each group of three cylinders or each group of four cylinders. In this case, two devices 20 can be used according to Fig. 2 be installed in such a motor vehicle to supply compressed charge air from each of two exhaust gas turbochargers to such a device 20.
[0020] On the common housing 21 of the device 20 of the Fig. According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, at least one low-temperature cooler can be attached, wherein such a low-temperature cooler serves, for example, to cool electrical components of a motor vehicle and / or to cool a refrigerant in an air conditioning system. Such a low-temperature cooler is then exposed to or circulated through by the same cooling air as the charge air coolers 22, 23 of the device 20. This increases functional integration. Further cost and weight reductions and reductions in assembly time are possible.
[0021] According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, holders and / or fastening means, particularly for electrical cables, water hoses, or pipes, can be provided on the common housing 21 of the device 20. This further enhances functional integration, resulting in further cost and weight reductions and a reduction in assembly time. For example, a flushing blower, a fan, or mechanical or electrical air dampers can be integrated into the housing 21 of the device 20.
[0022] As already stated, the device 20 of the Fig. 2. This is particularly relevant in a motor vehicle with a turbocharged internal combustion engine comprising two cylinder banks or cylinder groups, each with an exhaust gas turbocharger. In this case, compressed charge air is fed separately from the exhaust gas turbochargers to the separate intake air chambers 24 and 25. After cooling, the charge air is then fed from the common exhaust air chamber 32, via a common throttle valve and a common collector, to the cylinders of the cylinder banks or cylinder groups 11 of the internal combustion engine.
[0023] A device 35 that is not according to the invention shows Fig. 3, where also in the case of device 35 the Fig. 3 in a common housing 36 two charge air coolers 37, 38 are positioned or arranged. In the exemplary embodiment of the Fig. 3. The two charge air coolers 37 and 38 are positioned in the common housing 36 such that charge air to be cooled can be introduced into a common intake air chamber 39 of the device 35, namely in the direction of arrow 40 via an intake air connection 41 of the intake air chamber 39. The common intake air chamber 39 of the two charge air coolers 37 and 38 of the device 35 according to Fig. 3 is provided by the common housing 36.
[0024] The charge air to be cooled, introduced into the common air intake chamber 39, is guided from the common air intake chamber 39 via the two charge air coolers 37, 38, namely a first subset of the charge air in the direction of arrow 42 via the charge air cooler 37 and a second subset of the charge air in the direction of arrow 43 via the charge air cooler 38.
[0025] The two charge air coolers 37, 38, which are located in the common housing 36 of the device 35 according to Fig. Each of the two separate exhaust chambers 44 and 45, which are also provided by the common housing 36, is positioned at position 3. Each of the two separate exhaust chambers 44 and 45 has an exhaust connection 46 or 47, respectively. Charge air cooled by the charge air cooler 37 is drawn from exhaust chamber 44 in the direction of arrow 48 via exhaust connection 46 from the device 35, whereas charge air cooled by the charge air cooler 38 is drawn from exhaust chamber 45 in the direction of arrow 49 via exhaust connection 47 from the device 35.
[0026] Device 35 of the Fig. Device 3 is used in particular when an internal combustion engine with two cylinder banks or cylinder groups has only one exhaust gas turbocharger, through which the exhaust gas from both cylinder banks is routed and through which charge air for both cylinder banks is compressed. In this case, the charge air compressed by the exhaust gas turbocharger for both cylinder banks is introduced into the common intake air chamber 39 of the device 35 in the direction of arrow 40 and, starting from the exhaust air chambers 44 and 45, is supplied to the cylinders of the two cylinder banks or cylinder groups via separate throttle valves and separate collectors.
[0027] Regarding the remaining details, the exemplary embodiment of the Fig. 3 with the exemplary embodiment of the Fig. 2 agree, so to avoid unnecessary repetition, reference is made to the above statements.
[0028] The in Fig. The device 20 shown in section 4 for charge air cooling has, in comparison to the one in Fig. In the embodiment shown, an additional partition 50 is provided, which serves to guide the charge air within the exhaust chamber 32 and prevents the mixing of the two charge air flows within the device 20.
[0029] The in Fig. Device 35 for charge air cooling, shown in section 5, differs from the device shown in section 5. Fig. In the embodiment shown in 3, an additional partition wall 51 is provided, which serves to guide the charge air within the intake air chamber 39 and with which a mixing of the two charge air flows within the device 35 is prevented.
[0030] The invention relates to a motor vehicle with a device 20 for charge air cooling, namely for cooling charge air compressed in a compressor of at least one exhaust gas turbocharger and supplied to an internal combustion engine, wherein at least two charge air coolers 22, 23 are arranged in a common housing 21, 36, namely such that charge air to be cooled can be supplied separately to the charge air coolers 22, 23 arranged in the common housing 21 via a separate supply air chamber 24, 25 provided by the common housing 21, and that charge air cooled by the charge air coolers 22, 23 arranged in the common housing 21 can be discharged jointly via a common exhaust air chamber 32 provided by the common housing 21.
