The latter can be, for example, a touch-sensitive screen, but it can also be provided to give acoustic or haptic feedback to a user. From the document "Bigben Interactive GmbH: Gamephone controller per instruction manual. Walter-Gropius Straβe 28, 50126 Bergheim, 09.03.1999.-Firmschrift. https: / / www.bigben.fr / wpcont / uploads / sites / 4 / 2015 / 05 / 294544-manual-de-BB_318401.pdf", a selector lever device is known with a selector lever movable in the longitudinal direction, which comprises a lower spherical element, about which it is pivotably mounted, on which a mushroom-shaped grip element and a display element in the form of a mobile telephone are arranged. The object of the present invention is on the one hand to provide a selector lever device for a motor vehicle which offers improved operability and improved information transmission to an operator, and on the other hand to provide a motor vehicle having such a selector lever device. This object is achieved according to the invention by a selector lever device having the features of patent claim 1 and by a motor vehicle having the features of patent claim 9. Advantageous embodiments of the invention with expedient refinements are the subject matter of the dependent claims. In order to create a selector lever device for a motor vehicle which offers improved operability and improved information transmission to an operator, it is provided according to the invention that the grip piece is arranged higher in the vehicle vertical direction than a main extension plane of the display element. In other words, for a shifting process, the entire selector lever including the base element, handle piece and display element is moved in the vehicle longitudinal direction, wherein the direction of the movement depends on the desired shifting process. For this purpose, it is provided that the respective operator grasps the grip piece of the selector lever, wherein the special provided arrangement of the display element in a plane located lower in the vehicle vertical direction than the grip piece provided for direct contact with the operator ensures that the display element can be clearly seen and read for the operator at any time. In particular, the display element is advantageously not covered by the hand or an arm on the one hand from the point of view of the operator by the position of the grip piece that is elevated relative to the latter, even during an operating operation or while, for example, a hand rests on the grip piece. On the other hand, the arrangement of the display element offset downwards in the vehicle vertical direction with respect to the handle reduces the risk or frequency of mirroring or reflection, which impairs the ability of the display element to be recognized or read, for example by sunlight incident at an unfavorable angle. In the case of a planar or flat shape of the display element, the main plane of extension of the display element can be defined as the plane which is spanned by the directions of the two largest mutually perpendicular extensions of the display element. These two directions are the length and the width of the display element, while the third and smallest extension or extension direction is the thickness of the display element and extends at least substantially in the vehicle vertical direction. In the case of a curved or bent display element, its main extension plane can be defined, for example, as a plane which is likewise spanned by the two mutually perpendicular directions of the two greatest extensions of the display element and is arranged approximately centrally between a lowest and a highest point of the display element in the vehicle vertical direction. In any case, the main extension plane of the display element extends in the region of the selector lever device in the vehicle vertical direction no higher than a point of the display element that is uppermost in the vehicle vertical direction and no lower than a deepest point of the display element.Furthermore, a securing button can be provided in the region of the grip piece, by means of which a locking and unlocking mechanism can be actuated. Only when the safety button is actuated, for example by pressing or pulling, is a movement of the selector lever device possible and thus a shifting process possible. Unlocking can also be provided only for a movement into or out of a specific position or subset of all possible positions or positions of the selector lever device. An arrangement of the safety button in the region of or on the grip piece advantageously ensures that it can be easily and comfortably reached and actuated by an operator during each operating operation of the selector lever device. For this purpose, the safety button can be arranged, for example, on a rear side of the handle piece facing away from the operator. By means of a specific arrangement and an actuation direction of the safety button specifically designed for this purpose, it is also possible to excite or promote a hand posture of this type during an operating operation which improves the ability to identify and read the display element by virtue of the corresponding hand posture automatically maintaining a greater or sufficiently large distance between the hand and the arm and the display element. The safety button can also particularly advantageously serve, in particular when the handle is designed as a hand or hand ball or arm support, as an additional protection against unintentional or incorrect operation.Such a configuration of the grip piece as a hand or hand ball or arm rest can be provided, for example, by a sufficient size and / or shape. For this purpose, it can be advantageously provided if, in particular, a surface which comes into contact with the respective operator is underfed and / or padded. In this case, a covering of the surface, for example made of leather or a plastic material, can also be provided, which can advantageously be resistant in particular to skin moisture and fats, resulting in improved perception and improved comfort for an operator. The selector lever device can be arranged, for example, on or on a central console of the motor vehicle, wherein the display element extends at least substantially parallel to a surface of the central console oriented in the vehicle vertical direction and the grip piece or optionally provided elements gripping or holding the grip piece can lift out of the main extension plane of the display element in a bow-like or approximately arc-shaped manner in the vehicle transverse and vehicle vertical direction. The grip piece and the display element are thus both part of the selector lever and thus at least indirectly also mechanically coupled or connected to one another. However, since these are essentially independent elements or components, an independent and respectively individually optimized design with respect to shape and size can be carried out particularly advantageously. It is also possible to arrange the selector lever device for example on or on or in the region of an instrument panel of the motor vehicle. In any case, the selector lever device can be mounted such that, within the scope of respective operating processes, only translatory movements in the vehicle longitudinal direction are possible or provided. However, it is also conceivable to mount or arrange the selector lever device on a curved or curved element, so that during an operating operation a rotational movement component of the selector lever device occurs, in particular about an axis extending in the transverse direction of the vehicle. In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, a display surface of the display element is larger than an extension of the grip piece parallel to the main extension plane of the display element. A display area of the display element is an area that is provided for the active display of visual information and for the transmission thereof to an operator. The display area of the display element can therefore correspond, for example, to the total area of the display element minus any frames or enclosures that may be provided. While the size of the grip piece is limited by ergonomic aspects and a good operability of the selector lever device, which is preferably achievable, by the most arbitrary adult operators, a size of the display element that exceeds this is even particularly advantageous for a particularly large and thus as well recognizable information display and / or for a greater number or variety and / or clarity of simultaneously displayable or displayed information. For this purpose, it can be provided, for example, that the grip piece and the display element have substantially the same or a similar extent in the vehicle transverse direction, but the display element has a significantly greater extent in the vehicle longitudinal direction than the grip piece, which can be, in particular, a multiple of the extent of the grip piece in the vehicle longitudinal direction. In a further embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the display element is arranged behind the grip piece in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. In other words, the grip piece is arranged on a side of the display element facing the vehicle front. In particular, the grip piece can be arranged at an end of the selector lever facing the vehicle front and the display element can be arranged at an end of the selector lever facing the vehicle rear. Such an arrangement is particularly advantageous for transmitting information to the operator or for the operator to identify the information displayed on the display element, since on the one hand the display element is not covered by the handle from the point of view of the operator and on the other hand the display element is as close as possible to the operator. In a further embodiment of the invention, it is provided that a distance in the vehicle vertical direction between the main extension plane of the display element and a surface of the grip piece is at least 3 centimeters. In particular, it is provided that the corresponding surface of the grip piece is a surface provided for direct contact with the operator and / or uppermost in the vehicle vertical direction or a corresponding partial element of the grip piece. Such a sufficiently large distance advantageously ensures that the display element or the information displayed on the display element remains visible to the operator even during an operating operation. In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the selector lever device is symmetrical with respect to a plane extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and in the vertical direction of the vehicle. This allows particularly simple and thus cost-effective production and can also allow the selector lever device to be used both in vehicles designed for left-hand traffic and in vehicles designed for right-hand traffic. In this context, the use of a display element is also particularly advantageous, since a particularly good adaptation to left- and right-hand drive vehicles can additionally be achieved by means of programming the representation of the displayed contents in a simple and cost-effective manner, which can be correspondingly adapted. In a further embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the display element is framed on at least three circumferential sides by a frame element, wherein a surface of the frame element is arranged at least three millimeters higher in the vehicle vertical direction than respective edge regions of the display element arranged on the frame element. In particular, such a surround is provided along the sides running in the vehicle longitudinal direction and on the side of the display element running in the vehicle transverse direction and located in the direction of the vehicle rear. A surround which extends higher than the main extension plane of the display element in the vehicle vertical direction can advantageously improve its readability, if appropriate, by at least partially shading the self-illuminating display element, and protect the display element from damage. In any case, however, the display element should be designed with a sufficiently high luminosity and brightness. In a further embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the selector lever has a recess between the display element and the grip piece. Such a recess can allow a complete gripping of the grip piece and thus also a safe hold or a safe and reliable operability of the selector lever device during driving over an uneven ground and also saves material and thus weight. In a further embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the display element is designed to be touch-insensitive. In other words, the display element is not a touch-sensitive touch screen, which particularly advantageously prevents accidental incorrect operations, in particular when the selector lever device is operated without direct visual contact. The invention also relates to a motor vehicle which is equipped with a selector lever device which has a selector lever which can be moved in the vehicle longitudinal direction and which comprises a base element on which a grip piece and a display element are arranged, wherein the grip piece is arranged higher in the vehicle vertical direction than a main extension plane of the display element. In a further embodiment of the motor vehicle according to the invention, it is provided that the selector lever device is arranged on a central console of the motor vehicle in such a way that the main extension plane of the display element is arranged below a main extension plane of a respective seat cushion part of at least one front seat of the motor vehicle in the vehicle vertical direction. Such an arrangement makes it possible to avoid the occurrence of reflections and reflections, which impair the readability of the display element, for example as a result of solar radiation in a particularly advantageous and reliable manner. The functional embodiments of the selector lever device according to the invention described up to now and in the following and in the patent claims can correspondingly also be transferred analogously to the motor vehicle according to the invention or to the selector lever device provided in the motor vehicle according to the invention, and vice versa.Further advantages, features and details of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a preferred exemplary embodiment and with reference to the drawing. The following are shown: FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of a selector lever device, which is not the subject of the claims, with a base element, a grip piece and a display element; FIG. 2 is a schematic perspective view of a selector lever device, which is not the subject matter of the claims, with a securing button arranged on the handle piece; FIG. 3 is a schematic side view of a selector lever device not subject of the claims, with a hand and a part of an arm of an operator; FIG. 4 shows a schematic perspective view of an embodiment of a selector lever device according to the invention; and FIG. 5 shows a schematic side view of a selector lever device, which is not the subject matter of the patent claims, with a bearing for a rotational movement. In all figures and the following description, identical or functionally identical elements are denoted by identical reference numerals.FIG. 1 shows a schematic perspective view of a selector lever device 1 with a selector lever 2 which comprises a base element 3 on which a grip piece 4 and a display element 6 are arranged. In the present case, the display element 6 is enclosed by the base element 3, which merges in a front region 7 of the selector lever 2 into side cheeks 9, which in turn merge in a smooth manner into the grip piece 4. Thus, in the present case, the grip piece 4 is also arranged completely in the front region 7 or at the corresponding front end of the selector lever 2, while the display element 6 extends into or starting from a rear region 8 of the selector lever 2.The base element 3 is formed in the present case with a frame element 10 which encloses and protects the display element 6 on three sides, wherein the frame element 10 extends higher in the vehicle vertical direction than only up to the main extension plane of the display element 6 and merges in a flowing manner into the side cheeks 9 in the direction of the front region 7. Damage to the display element 6 can be prevented if necessary by the elevation of the frame element 10 relative to the display element 6, for example by relatively large objects which fall onto the selector lever device 1 coming to lie on the surrounding frame element 10 and thus not coming into contact with the surface of the display element 6. The side cheeks 9, together with the grip piece 4 and an inclined surface 11, which can be part of the display element 6 or can adjoin the latter only in the direction of the front region 7, surround a recess 12.The selector lever 2 illustrated here is provided for a so-called shift-by-wire (SBW) unit, which therefore does not have a direct, purely mechanical connection to a transmission of a motor vehicle, but instead converts operating actions carried out by an operator into corresponding electrical signals, which are then transmitted to an actuator unit of the transmission. In the present case, the operating actions provided are a forward and a backward movement of the selector lever 2 in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, which is indicated here by corresponding arrows. By such a forward or backward movement of the selector lever 2 out of an initial position, the operator can manually initiate a change of a currently engaged gear, wherein it is provided that the selector lever 2 is mounted in a monostable manner. This means that the selector lever 2 automatically returns to its initial position after a movement, if it is released by the operator or if the operator no longer exerts a corresponding force in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. This has the advantage, on the one hand, that the selector lever 2 is always reliably in a position expected by the operator. On the other hand, this does not allow a simple determination of the respectively currently prevailing or selected driving stage.Known variants of selector levers already have respective display elements which display the selected gear stage in an attempt to eliminate this problem, wherein these display elements are, however, often integrated into respective grip pieces and are additionally touch-sensitive, for example by using a touchscreen. This results in the problems that, on the one hand, the respective display elements are directly covered by one hand of the operator during an operating action and can therefore no longer be read, and, on the other hand, there is a great risk of incorrect operation or of an accidental operating action. In order to counter these problems, the grip piece 4 and the display element 6 are separated from one another--although still components of the selector lever 2--and the grip piece 4 is arranged higher in the vehicle vertical direction than the display element 6 or the main extension plane of the display element 6, respectively. In particular, it is provided that an upper side 5 of the grip piece 4, which extends at least substantially parallel to the display element 6 and is provided for direct contact with the respective operator, is arranged at least 3 centimeters higher than the display element 6, respectively.First of all, the illustrated and described arrangement of the handle piece 4 makes it possible for the display element 6 not to be concealed by the hand of the operator even during an operating action in which the handle piece 4 is touched or encompassed by the respective operator, in particular by the hand of the operator, by the separate arrangement of the handle piece 4 and of the display element 6, and not to be concealed by a wrist region or an arm of the operator as well, by the vertical spacing, i.e. spacing provided in the vehicle vertical direction. The latter is the case because the distance between the display element 6 and the wrist area or arm of the operator, which exists automatically on account of the arrangement of the handle piece 4, is not restricted from all typical head positions of the operator from a lateral or oblique view of the display element 6. Furthermore, the spatial spacing of the grip piece 4 and the display element 6 effectively prevents incorrect operation even if the display element 6 were equipped with a touch-sensitive surface or with a touch-sensitive element.Furthermore, it is particularly advantageous that the arrangement shown permits a respectively largely independent configuration of the grip piece 4 and the display element 6 from the respective other element. Thus, for example, the grip piece 4 or its upper side 5 can be designed particularly ergonomically, for which, for example, indentations or depressions or the like, not shown here too, can be provided just as well as a curved or curved shape. Thus, an optimum ergonomy and / or a free adaptation to, for example, respective hand sizes of a target group can be achieved without any need to accept a restriction of the options for transmitting information to the respective operator. At the same time, the display element 6 can be designed as large as possible, so that the possibilities for displaying information can be optimally utilized. For the purpose of displaying information, it is provided in the present case that the display element 6 has a display area 13 which can be designed to be large enough and is also designed in the present case to display a plurality of items of information simultaneously. The height of the display element 6 does not in any way adversely affect the ergonomy of the grip piece 4 and, particularly positively, even enables a particularly large and thus good, easy and quick information display. The latter is particularly important since the time duration for which a driver has to avert his gaze and thus to a certain extent also his attention from the surrounding traffic situation is thus minimized, so that a gain in safety also results. If necessary, it is even possible to identify the displayed information by means of peripheral vision or perception from the eye angle, which is facilitated by the size of the display element 6, whereby a gain in safety is likewise obtained when the motor vehicle is being guided. In this context, it may also be particularly advantageous to implement the display element 6 using OLED technology (organic light emitting diode), as a result of which the best possible image and display quality is achievable and which additionally offers the advantage of being able to select or adapt the shape of the display element 6 virtually arbitrarily. Thus, a curved or arched shape of the display element 6 can also be provided, whereby the visibility of the displayed information can be further improved, in particular from the perspective of the driver. Such a nearly freely selectable shape of the display element 6 can also be used advantageously for a particularly appealing design or a design freedom and also enables an adaptation to respective structural or structural conditions.Due to the advantageous size of the display element 6, different information can be displayed simultaneously in three areas, for example, namely a first information area 14, a second information area 15 and a third information area 16. In the first information area 14, the respectively present or selected driving gear or an operating mode is displayed. The second information area 15 is used to represent the available driving levels or operating modes, which can be symbolized, for example, by familiar abbreviations, the arrangement of which and, if appropriate, additionally provided indicators of which give the operator the quick and intuitively easy understanding of how a specific driving level or how a specific operating mode can be selected. In the third information area 16, for example, further information can be displayed in particular in a situation-adapted manner. These may be, for example, operated knobs or indicators which can be displayed in symbol or text form. Of course, the number, the arrangement and the information assignment of the individual information areas 14, 15, 16 should be understood here only as being one of numerous possibilities, for example. In particular, it should be noted that a physical separation of the individual information areas is not provided or must be provided, but rather it is merely a side-by-side display of different information on the one, uniform display area 13.In addition to the other information displayed, a color background, for example, can also be displayed over the entire display area 13, optionally with different color regions or a possibly also animated color profile and / or other symbols, pictograms or animations. These can be functional and, for example, ensure an even better and even more rapid visibility by the driver by a corresponding color assignment of a background to a selected driving stage and / or convey indications of, for example, an optimum switching time by specific colors, color changes or, for example, also blinking. In particular, large-area color regions or color backgrounds offer the advantage that the respective information transmitted by them can be recorded very quickly and also by peripheral vision, since, for example, no specific shapes have to be recognized. However, corresponding background representations can also be provided for design purposes, so that, for example, in a sport mode, a red background and / or, for example, animated arrows can be provided or a background color can be selected to be appropriate to a lighting or ambient lighting that may be present in the interior or in other instruments of the motor vehicle. In addition to the arrangement shown and the division of the different information in the information areas 14, 15, 16, it can also be provided to configure the arrangement of the respective contents differently. For example, the corresponding arrangement can be mirrored on a central longitudinal axis of the selector lever device extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle in order to achieve an adaptation to a left-hand traffic situation. In this case, for example, the second information area 15 could be arranged on a side of the display surface 13 opposite in the vehicle transverse direction. Such an adaptation can be carried out and defined by the manufacturer, but it can also be carried out as required by respective vehicle occupants or operators at any desired time.In principle, further embodiments and designs of the selector lever device 1 that deviate from the variant shown in FIG. 1 are also possible. Thus, for example, an arrangement which is reversed in the vehicle longitudinal direction compared to the present illustration can also be provided, in which arrangement the side cheeks 9 and the grip piece 4 are therefore arranged in the rear region 8 of the selector lever 2 and the display element 6 is arranged on the front region 7. In this case, in particular, it may be advantageous to design the selector lever 2 to be longer in the vehicle longitudinal direction and to design the side walls 9 to be shorter or flatter, so that the grip piece 4 is arranged closer to the main extension plane of the display element 6 in the vehicle vertical direction. In addition, the grip piece 4 or in particular its upper side 5 can be provided with one or more depressions or depressions. In the described variant, these measures contribute to ensuring the good visibility of the display element 6 and the free view of the driver or the operator at any time by preventing the side walls 9 and / or the grip piece 4 from concealing the display element 6 from the point of view of the operator.FIG. 2 shows a schematic perspective view of a selector lever device 1 with a securing button 17 arranged on the handle piece 4 and between the side cheeks 9, which is arranged in a region facing away from the operator, whereby particularly ergonomic reachability and operability is ensured. By means of the safety button 17, the selector lever device 1 or a corresponding partial mechanism can be locked and unlocked, whereby movability of the selector lever device 1 for changing the gear is blocked or enabled. The arrangement of the safety button illustrated in FIG. 2 also advantageously facilitates a hand posture of the operator, which ensures the best possible visibility of the display element 6, as shown in FIG. 3. There, a schematic side view shows a hand 18 and a part of an arm 19 of the operator during an operating operation of the selector lever device 1. In this case, the safety button 17 can be operated, for example, with one or more fingers 20 and a sufficiently large distance 21 is produced between the display element 6 and the arm 19, so that a lateral view of the display element 6 is not restricted.FIG. 4 shows a selector lever device 1b according to the invention, which represents an alternative embodiment. In this embodiment, it is provided that the display element 6 and the display surface 13 are extended into or by a region 21 facing the operator. This region 21 can be formed separately or can merge continuously into the remaining part of the display element 6 or the display surface 13. In particular in the case of such a continuous transition, it may be advantageous to provide a bent display element which can be realized, for example, by using a component based on OLED technology. Otherwise, an arrangement at an angle is also possible, so that the region 21 abuts the remaining part or the remaining part of the display element 6 or a frame element surrounding the latter in an edge extending in the longitudinal direction of the selector lever device. For example, the second information area 15 can be arranged in the area 21, or other information can additionally be displayed. In any case, the visibility of the information shown can be further improved by the arrangement facing the operator, wherein, in the course of adaptation to use in areas with left-hand traffic, the region 21 can also be provided on a side of the selector lever device 1 b, which side is opposite in the vehicle transverse direction.FIG. 5 shows a schematic side view of the selector lever device 1, 1 bmounted on a curved bearing element 21, which can have, for example, curved or curved guides along which the selector lever 2 can be moved during an operating operation. In this case, the corresponding movement also has a rotational component in addition to a translatory movement. The selector lever 2 thus follows a curved path during an operating process, as indicated by a double arrow, which can correspond in a lateral projection to a segment of a circle, for example. However, even in the case of such a movement or mounting, no movement of the selector lever in the vehicle transverse direction is providedIndependently of the embodiment, it is preferably provided that both the grip piece 5 and the side cheeks 9 and the frame element 10 project higher than the display element 6 only in the vehicle vertical direction and therefore do not cover it, viewed from above or in a projection in the vehicle vertical direction. This means that in this case there is no overlap of the display element 6 and in particular of the display surface 13 in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle or in the transverse direction of the vehicle by another component or element of the selector lever device 1.
