Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a profile strip with the features of the preamble of claim 1, according to WO 2016 / 189238 A1 or DE 10 2009 010 015 A1. The invention further relates to a profile strip arrangement.
[0002] Profile strip arrangements known from the prior art, for example from DE 200 08 555 U1 and WO 2006 / 002891 A2, serve to connect a lower edge area of a motor vehicle's windshield to a so-called cowl cover. This is typically snapped into place with a connecting area of the profile strip by inserting a locking section in the form of a mounting ridge of the cowl cover into a receiving area of the connecting area of the profile strip and snapping it into place.
[0003] A water box cover serves to cover a water box that collects water running off the vehicle's windshield and channels it in a controlled manner into the engine compartment and under the vehicle. The water box may be an integral part of the vehicle body. The profile strip arrangements known from DE 200 08 555 U1 and WO 2006 / 002891 A2 enable a smooth and aerodynamically favorable transition to the adjacent water box cover in the area of the lower edge of the windshield.
[0004] After its manufacture, the profile strip is attached to the edge of the windshield, usually by bonding. This assembly step is typically carried out by suppliers, enabling them to deliver a complete assembly to a vehicle manufacturer, comprising the windshield and the profile strip attached to it. This assembly is then connected (usually by bonding) to a windshield mounting point in the vehicle body during final assembly; the adjacent cowl cover is also fitted to the profile strip.
[0005] During transport of the aforementioned assembly from the supplier to the vehicle manufacturer, the ("second") connecting area of the profile strip, intended for connection to the cowl cover, protrudes from the windshield and is thus exposed to mechanical stress. At the same time, it is desirable that the assembly can be transported in a space-saving and upright position, i.e., that the windshield can be transported vertically. Furthermore, it is desirable that the windshield be protected against damage to its lower edge during transport. Such protection is ensured by the windshield being supported by the second connecting area of the profile strip during transport. However, this means that the weight of the windshield rests on the second connecting area of the profile strip during transport. This stress causes an undesirable deformation of the second connection area of the profile strip, which defines the receiving area. It has been found that profile strip arrangements with flat / flush outer surfaces are particularly sensitive, as they lack a section that encompasses the top of the windshield's edge (see DE 37 02 555 A1).
[0006] To prevent deformation of a profile strip connected to a windshield, it is known from the prior art (for example from WO 2006 / 002891 A2, EP 2 253 556 A1 and WO 2014 / 041279 A1) to stiffen the second connection area of the profile strip by using a transport protection strip (also called a "keder") which is arranged with at least a part of its cross-section in the receiving area of the second connection area.
[0007] After the "windshield and profile strip" assembly is delivered to the vehicle manufacturer, the transport protection strip is removed from the profile strip's mounting area so that the second connection point can be attached to the cowl cover. The transport protection strip is then disposed of.
[0008] To remove the transport protection strip from the receiving area of the second connection area of the profile strip, EP 2 253 556 A1 proposes providing an additional handling section in the form of a grip tab on the transport protection strip, so that the transport protection strip can be pulled out of the receiving area of the profile strip by manually pulling on the grip tab. A similar handling section in the form of a pull-out ring is known from WO 2014 / 041279 A1.
[0009] The aforementioned additional handling sections simplify the removal of the transport protection strip from the mounting area of the profile strip. However, the transport protection strip and the handling sections must first be manufactured as individual components and then assembled onto the profile strip by the supplier. After the assembly has been transported to the vehicle manufacturer, the manufacturer must then remove the transport protection strip and the handling sections. Finally, the transport protection strip and the handling sections must be collected and disposed of.
[0010] Another profile strip arrangement is known from DE 20 2014 106 202 U1.
[0011] Starting from this, the present invention aims to provide a profile strip which can reduce the effort involved in the manufacture, transport and assembly of a profile strip arrangement.
[0012] This problem is solved by a profile strip with the features of claim 1.
[0013] The profile strip according to the invention has a base section. This base section is formed jointly by at least a partial layer of the connecting section of the first connection area and by at least a partial layer of the bottom section of the V- or U-shaped material section. This base section is continuous, so that forces can be transmitted along the cross-section of the base section. These forces can, in particular, be introduced into the bottom section of the profile strip and transmitted into the connecting section of the first connection area during the transport of an assembly comprising a windshield and a profile strip attached thereto.Because the two legs of the V- or U-shaped material section project from the base section, pressure forces caused by the weight of the windshield during upright transport of the aforementioned assembly are not transferred to the outer leg of the V- or U-shaped material section. This exposed outer leg can therefore be decoupled from the force flow during transport. The continuity of the base section allows forces introduced into the bottom section of the V- or U-shaped material section to be transferred along the length of the base section to the connecting section without the risk of the bottom section buckling relative to the connecting section.
[0014] The profile strip according to the invention makes it possible to dispense with the arrangement of a keder in the receiving area of the second connection area during the transport of an assembly (windshield and profile strip). This means that the keder does not need to be provided, joined to the receiving area, removed from the receiving area, or subsequently disposed of.
[0015] This simplifies the manufacturing, transport, and assembly of a profile strip arrangement.
[0016] The base section can extend in a slightly curved plane, but preferably in a straight plane, so that compressive forces introduced into the base section at the end face can be transferred along the extent of the base section with as little transverse force as possible.
[0017] A further measure to increase the stability of the base section is the seamless transition between the bottom section and the connecting section on their respective undersides and / or tops. This allows for optimal use of the material volume required for the base section. Furthermore, it enables the best possible use of the installation space, which is typically limited in the area of the transition between a cowl cover and the lower edge of a windshield. Finally, the continuous transitions on the underside and / or top between the bottom section and the connecting section provide the best possible protection against buckling of the bottom section relative to the connecting section.
[0018] In the particularly preferred case where the base section and the connecting section transition seamlessly into one another on both their respective undersides and their respective topsides, the entire material volume of the base section can be used for force transmission. In this case, the connecting section and the base section together, with their respective full layer thickness (i.e., not just with any partial layers that may be provided), form the base section.
[0019] The base section is, in particular, a flat body section. The thickness of such a flat body section is preferably at least one millimeter. Preferably, this thickness is at most five millimeters. It is further particularly preferred if the thickness is identical along the entire length of the flat body section (viewed in cross-section).
[0020] Furthermore, it is particularly advantageous if the profile strip is stiffened along its entire length with at least one stiffening insert. This can be, in particular, a metallic stiffening insert made of aluminum or steel.
[0021] It is particularly preferred if the at least one stiffening insert, viewed in cross-section of the profile strip, extends at least partially within a preferably straight plane, wherein a first region of the partial section is arranged at least partially in the connecting section and a second region of the same partial section is arranged in the bottom section. In this way, a transition area between the bottom section and the connecting section can be reinforced in particular.
[0022] A further optimized arrangement results when the stiffening insert extends along the entire length of the connecting section or the entire base section, and particularly preferably along both the entire connecting section and the entire base section. This means that at least 90% of the length of said section (connecting section or base section) should be stiffened by means of the stiffening insert. It is therefore possible for the material of the profile strip (usually an elastic plastic material) to enclose the stiffening insert at its ends (with a maximum of 10% of the length of the respective section) so that the stiffening insert is protected from weathering and mechanical stress.
[0023] Furthermore, it is preferred if a stiffening insert is provided which has at least one section for stiffening one leg of the V- or U-shaped material section. Such a stiffening insert can be one that reinforces exclusively one or both legs of the V- or U-shaped material section. Preferably, however, it is the section of a stiffening insert that also reinforces at least part of the base section.
[0024] An arrangement particularly suitable for protection against transport damage without the use of a keder is achieved by the profile strip having a material projection acting as a support body, which is arranged adjacent to a leg of the V- or U-shaped material section, wherein the leg is arranged on the side facing away from the connecting section in relation to the bottom section.
[0025] Such a support body creates a material area on which the profile strip can be placed during the transport of a windshield. The support body provides mechanical protection for the remaining areas of the profile strip and can therefore be optimized in terms of its geometry with regard to this support function.
[0026] A particularly preferred cross-sectional geometry of the material projection is a knob shape, i.e. a semicircular cross-section, which makes it possible to introduce weight-related contact forces into the material projection and from it into the profile strip, even on an uneven contact surface.
[0027] According to the invention, the material projection is arranged at the level of the base section. This makes it possible to transfer any force exerted by the weight during transport through the windshield into the material projection and from there directly and without detours into the base section.
[0028] It is particularly preferred that the material projection is an integral part of the base section, so that forces introduced into the material projection can be transferred without loss to other areas of the base section.
[0029] It is further preferred that the material projection and the base section are made of the same material, thereby simplifying the integral production of the base section and the material projection (preferably by extrusion).
[0030] In a further advantageous embodiment, the material projection is stiffened by means of at least one stiffening insert in the profile strip. This stiffening insert can, in particular, reinforce the base section, at least in certain areas. Specifically, the base section with the integrally formed material projection and the stiffening insert extend in the same, preferably a straight, plane.
[0031] In a further embodiment of the invention, the profile strip has a central section that adjoins or forms one leg of the V- or U-shaped material section and, in the installed state, is closer to an edge of the windshield than the other, outer leg of the V- or U-shaped material section, with the central section projecting from the base section. Such a central section makes it possible, for example, to provide a material section of the profile strip that is directly adjacent to an edge of the windshield. Such a section can also serve to transfer forces introduced into the base section via the central section to a lateral edge of a windshield.
[0032] Particularly when the central section forms an inner leg of the V- or U-shaped material section and / or when the central section is intended to transfer forces as described above, it is preferred that the central section has a thicker cross-section than the outer leg of the V- or U-shaped material section. In this way, the increased stability does not compromise the deformability of the outer leg of the V- or U-shaped material section, which is typically required or desired to allow the locking section of the water tank cover to be inserted into the receiving area of the second connection area by deforming the outer leg.
[0033] Another possible use of the central section is that it carries a sealing element for the external seal between adjacent edges of the windshield and the cowl cover. This sealing element is preferably flat on its upper surface in order to create – with a preferred profile strip arrangement according to the invention – a completely flush surface transition to the outer surfaces of the windshield and the cowl cover. Within the scope of the present invention, this is not a mathematically perfect flushness, but rather a flushness that can be achieved in mass production within the given manufacturing capabilities.
[0034] The highly stable design of the profile strip according to the invention makes it possible, in particular, for the central section and / or the outer leg of the V- or U-shaped material section to have a locking element that projects into the receiving area and serves to lock with the locking section of the water tank cover. The locking element can be a comparatively small locking lip, which can be made of a softer material than the rest of the profile strip material. This arrangement enables a particularly convenient and reliable locking with the locking section of the water tank cover, as described, for example, in DE 20 2008 006 986 U1 of the same applicant.
[0035] The aforementioned locking element can in particular be formed by an extension of a soft material layer that divides the central section into a bottom-side material section and a sealing-element-side material section.
[0036] Further features and advantages of the invention are the subject of the following description and the graphic representation of preferred embodiments.
[0037] The drawings show: Fig. 1 a cross-section of an embodiment of a profile strip; Fig. 2 a cross-section of an embodiment of an assembly which includes a profile strip according to Fig. 1 and includes a windshield; Fig. 3 a cross-section of an embodiment of a profile strip arrangement which the assembly according to Fig. 2 and includes a water tank cover; Fig. 4 a cross-section of another embodiment of a profile strip; Fig. 5 a cross-section of an embodiment of an assembly which includes a profile strip according to Fig. 4 and includes a windshield; Fig. 6 a cross-section of an embodiment of a profile strip arrangement, which the assembly according to Fig. 5 and includes a water tank cover; and Fig. 7 to 11 each show a cross-section of another embodiment of a profile strip.
[0038] With reference to Fig. Reference numerals 1 to 3 in the drawing denote a profile strip (reference numeral 10), a windshield (reference numeral 12), and a water box cover (reference numeral 14). The profile strip 10 and the windshield 12 together form an assembly 16. The assembly 16, together with the water box cover 14, forms a profile strip arrangement 18 (see figure). Fig. 3).
[0039] The profile strip 10 has a first connection area 20 for connection with an edge area 22 of the windshield 12. The first connection area 20 comprises a connection section 24 with a bottom surface 26 and a top surface 28. An adhesive layer 30 is arranged on the top surface 28 of the connection section, which is bonded to the top surface 28 of the connection section 24 via a bottom surface 32 and to an inner surface 36 of the windshield via a top surface 34.
[0040] The profile strip 10 has a second connection area 38 for connection to the water tank cover 14. The second connection area 38 has a U-shaped material section 40 that defines a groove-shaped receiving area 42, which serves for the snap-fit reception of a locking section 44 of the water tank cover 14 (see figure). Fig. 3).
[0041] The U-shaped material section 40 has a base section 46, an outer leg 48, and an inner leg 50. A locking element 52 is provided on at least one of the legs 48, 50, which serves to lock into a locking projection 54 of the locking section 44 of the water tank cover 14.
[0042] The inner leg 50 is formed by a central section 56, which is thicker in cross-section than the outer leg 48.
[0043] The central section 56 carries a sealing element 58. This serves for external sealing between adjacent edges 60 and 62 of the windshield 12 and the water box cover 14, respectively, cf. Fig. 3.
[0044] An outer surface 64 of the windscreen 12, an outer surface 66 of the sealing element 58 and an outer surface 68 of the water box cover 14 are flush with each other and together form a continuous outer skin 70 of a motor vehicle.
[0045] The bottom section 46 has a bottom surface 72 and a top surface 74, which is part of the boundary of the groove-shaped receiving area 42.
[0046] The connecting section 24 of the first connecting area 20 and the bottom section 46 of the U-shaped material section 40 together form a continuous base section 78 extending in a straight plane 76, cf. Fig. 2.
[0047] A transition between the base section 78 and the central section 56 is in Fig. 2 is shown with a dashed line 80. From the base section 78, the central section 56 or the inner leg 50 and the outer leg 48 project towards the outer skin 70 (cf. Fig. 3).
[0048] The base section 78 is designed in the form of a flat body section 82. Viewed along the plane 76 (i.e., in the cross-section of the profile strip 10), the thickness of the flat body section measured perpendicular to the outer skin 70 is constant and is, for example, between approximately one millimeter and approximately five millimeters.
[0049] After manufacturing a profile strip 10 according to Fig. 1. This is connected to the windscreen 12 by means of the adhesive layer 30. The assembly is thus formed according to Fig. 2. For reasons of space when transporting this assembly 16, it is preferable to arrange the windshield 12 vertically, i.e. standing upright, in a position opposite to the illustration in Fig. 2. Position rotated approximately 90° clockwise.
[0050] The profile strip 10 serves to protect the edge area 22 of the windshield 12 during transport. The weight of the windshield 12 rests on an end-face section 83 of the base section 78. The force introduced from the mounting surface into the end-face section 83 is introduced along the extent of the plane 76 into the base section 78 and from there via the central section 56 into the edge 60 of the windshield 12 and via the adhesive layer 30 and the inner surface 36 also into the windshield 12.
[0051] The continuous base section 78 creates a buckling-resistant arrangement, which makes it possible to do without a keder arranged within the groove-shaped receiving area 42 during the transport of the assembly 16.
[0052] After delivery of the assembly 16 to a motor vehicle manufacturer, the assembly 16 can be connected to the body of a motor vehicle being manufactured by bonding the windshield 12 to a windshield frame of the motor vehicle. Subsequently, the otherwise usual assembly step of removing a beading strip from the receiving area 42 is omitted; instead, the installation of the water box cover 14 can begin immediately by inserting the locking section 44 into the receiving area 42 and locking it in place. This results in a flush surface arrangement according to Fig. 3.
[0053] The in Fig. The embodiments shown in 4 to 7, compared to the embodiments described above according to Fig. One to three further advantageous features are described. Reference is made to the preceding description. The following only describes additional features and differences of the embodiments according to... Fig. 4 to 7 compared to the embodiments according to Fig. Sections 1 to 3 are explained. Each of the additional features “1” to “4” described below can be combined with an embodiment according to the present invention. Fig. 1 to 3 can be combined. Additional feature “1”
[0054] The base section 78 of the profile strip 10 according to Fig. Sections 4 to 6 have a material projection 84 arranged adjacent to the outer leg 48. The material projection 84 is knob-shaped in cross-section and extends from a Fig. Figure 4, with a dashed line 86, illustrates the outer edge of the outer leg 48. The material projection 84 is located at the level of the base section 78 and is an integral part of the base section 78.
[0055] The material projection 84 enables a difference compared to the embodiments according to Fig. 1 to 3 further improved support of an assembly 16 in a vertical arrangement of the assembly 16. Additional feature “2”
[0056] The embodiments according to Fig. Sections 4 to 7 further comprise stiffening inserts 88, 90, which extend longitudinally along the profile strip 10 and are made, in particular, of a metallic material. For example, a stiffening insert 88 is provided for stiffening an upper region of the central section 56 in its installed position.
[0057] In particular, a stiffening insert 90 is provided, which stiffens the base section 78. The stiffening insert 90 extends with a first subsection along a straight plane 92 and thus stiffens the connecting section 24 with a first area and the bottom section 46 with a second area.
[0058] It is possible that the stiffening insert 90 extends along the plane 92 into the material projection 84.
[0059] The drawing shows a configuration in which the stiffening insert 90 has a subsection 94 that stiffens the outer leg 48 of the material section 40. Additional feature “3”
[0060] Another special feature of the embodiments according to Fig. 4 to 6 consists in the fact that the side of the outer leg 48 facing the groove-shaped receiving area 42 is free of undercuts. Additional feature “4”
[0061] The inner leg 50 serves to arrange a locking element 96, which projects into the groove-shaped receiving area 42 in the form of a barb, in order to be locked there with the locking section 44 of the water tank cover 14 (cf. Fig. 6).
[0062] The locking element 96 is preferably made of a softer, more elastically compliant material with respect to the material of the profile strip 10, i.e. the material of the base section 78, the central section 56 and the legs 48, 50 as well as the material projection 84.
[0063] In modification of profile strip 10 according to Fig. 4 to 6 it is possible that the locking element 96 is formed by an extension of a soft material layer 98, which divides the central section 56 into a bottom-side material section 100 and a sealing element-side material section 102, cf. Fig. 7.
[0064] Based on the embodiments according to Fig. Further variations are possible for sections 1 to 3 or 4 to 7. For example, the bottom section 46 of the material section 40 may have a smaller thickness than the connecting section 24. This can be achieved, for instance, by arranging the undersides 26 and 72 of the connecting section 24 and the bottom section 46, respectively, within a common straight plane, thus creating a seamless transition into one another, while the top surface 28 of the connecting section 24 and the top surface 74 of the bottom section 46 are offset relative to each other, for example, so that the bottom section 46 has a smaller thickness than the connecting section 24 (see figure). Fig. 8.
[0065] As in the Fig. 9 and Fig. As illustrated in Figure 10, it is also possible that, for example, the upper surfaces 28 and 74 of the connecting section 24 and the bottom section 46 are arranged at the same height and the lower surfaces 26 and 72 are inclined relative to each other (see Figure 10). Fig. 9) or are ranked relative to each other (see Fig. 10).
[0066] The above with reference to Fig. The modifications described in Figures 8 to 10 result in the plane 76, along which the base section 78 extends, extending further towards the bottom surface 26 in relation to the connecting section 24 and in relation to a central material layer (see Figure 8). Fig. 8) or further towards the upper side 28 (see Fig. 9 and Fig. 10) is arranged offset.
[0067] In Fig.Figure 11 shows a further modification of a profile strip 10. Starting from the base section 78, which is designed as a flat body section 82, the underside 26 of the connecting section 24 has at least one material extension 104a, 104b, 104c. This can serve as a support on a crossmember of a motor vehicle body.
