AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing decoupling systems in hybrid and electric motor vehicles struggle to open against higher residual torques and fail to safely decouple under fault conditions, such as an 'active short circuit (ASC), leading to potential overloading of electrical components.

Method used

A clutch unit with a form-fitting coupling and actuating unit that includes an electromagnetic actuator and a note decoupling function, utilizing oscillations generated by a vibration component to actively decouple the clutch elements, even under high torques, ensuring safe operation by preventing overloading.

Benefits of technology

Ensures reliable decoupling of drive components even under fault conditions, preventing overloading and ensuring safe operation by actively decoupling the clutch, thus protecting electrical machinery from induced voltages and currents.

Abstract

Coupling unit (1) for a drive train of a hybrid or electric motor vehicle, comprising a positive-locking clutch (2) which has an axially fixed, rotatable first clutch element (3, 3a) and an axially movable, rotatable second clutch element (4, 4a), and an actuating unit (5) for actuating the positive-locking clutch (2), wherein the second clutch element (4, 4a) can be actuated into different switching positions, namely into at least one coupled switching position and one decoupled switching position, via the actuating unit (5), wherein the clutch unit (1) has an emergency decoupling function, characterized in that the emergency decoupling function is designed such that in the event of a fault, namely when the second clutch element (4, 4a) gets stuck in the coupled switching position, although the decoupled switching position has already been actuated, the second clutch element (4,4a) and the actuating unit (5) actively generate vibrations which result in axial impulses via which the second coupling element (4, 4a) is moved from the coupled switching position into the actuated decoupled switching position.,
