Description

Technical area

[0001] The present invention relates to a pressure control valve that regulates the pressure within an enclosure. Background of the invention

[0002] A pressure regulating valve is a device for regulating the pressure within an enclosure. The enclosure is, for example, a battery pack mounted in a vehicle. A component, such as a battery cell, is housed and sealed inside the battery pack. The pressure regulating valve is attached to the enclosure, such as the battery pack. The pressure regulating valve is mounted, for example, to cover an opening formed in the enclosure. When the pressure inside the enclosure exceeds a threshold value, the pressure regulating valve operates to release a fluid inside the enclosure to the outside. The pressure regulating valve can prevent damage to the component in the event of a pressure increase inside the enclosure.

[0003] Several pressure control valves have been proposed in the prior art.

[0004] For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a pressure regulating valve including a base member attached to an opening of a housing and a cover member covering the base member. A compressive force is applied to the cover member toward the base member. When the internal pressure exceeds a threshold, the cover member moves in a direction away from the base member. A fluid inside the housing is discharged to the outside via a gap between the base member and the cover member and a gap between the cover member and the housing.

[0005] For example, Patent Document 2 discloses a pressure regulating valve including a valve covering an opening of a housing and a cover covering the valve. When the internal pressure exceeds a threshold, the valve moves away from the housing. A fluid inside the housing is discharged to the outside through a gap between the valve and the housing and a gap between the cover and the housing. Description of the embodiments

[0017] Embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In the drawings accompanying this description, the scale, the relationship between longitudinal and transverse dimensions, and the like are altered and exaggerated from the actual dimensions for ease of understanding.

[0018] Fig. 1 is a partially sectioned view showing an example of a pressure regulating valve 10. The pressure regulating valve 10 is attached to a case 100. The case 100 is, for example, a battery pack mounted in a vehicle. A component, such as a battery cell, is housed and sealed inside the battery pack. The case 100 includes a top surface 101 and a back surface 102. The top surface 101 is in contact with the atmosphere outside the case 100. The back surface 102 is in contact with an internal space sealed by the case 100. The case 100 includes an opening 103 penetrating the case 100. The pressure regulating valve 10 is attached to the case 100 so as to cover the opening 103.

[0019] When the pressure inside the enclosure 100 exceeds a threshold value, the pressure control valve 10 acts to release a fluid, e.g., gas, contained inside the enclosure 100 to the outside. The pressure inside the enclosure 100 is also referred to as internal pressure.

[0020] The pressure control valve 10 will now be described in detail. Fig. Figure 2 is an exploded view of the pressure regulating valve 10. The pressure regulating valve 10 includes a cover member 20, a sealing member 30, an elastic member 40, and a base member 50. By assembling the cover member 20, the sealing member 30, the elastic member 40, and the base member 50, the modular pressure regulating valve 10 is manufactured. The modular pressure regulating valve 10 is attached to the housing 100.

[0021] The individual components of the pressure control valve 10 are described with reference to the Fig. 1 to 4 described in detail. Fig. 3 is a side view of the pressure control valve 10. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the pressure control valve 10. (cover part)

[0022] The cover part 20 includes a peripheral edge 20e that surrounds the opening 103 of the housing 100 in plan view. The cover part 20 can move along a first direction D1 according to the internal pressure. The first direction D1 is perpendicular (normal) to the top side 101 of the housing 100.

[0023] The cover part 20 comprises a cover body 21 and a shaft 22. The cover body 21 comprises an upper portion 211, which covers the opening 103 of the enclosure 100 in plan view, and a lateral portion 212, which extends from the upper portion 211 toward the enclosure 100. In plan view, an object is viewed perpendicular to the top side 101 of the enclosure 100. The upper portion 211 may be circular in plan view. The lateral portion 212 may be tubular.

[0024] The shaft 22 is connected to the cover body 21. For example, in plan view, the shaft 22 is connected to the center of the cover body 21. The shaft 22 extends linearly from the cover body 21 to the opening 103.

[0025] The cover part 20 may have a flange 23. The flange 23 is connected, for example, to the side portion 212 of the cover body 21. The flange 23 includes a first portion 231 extending outwardly from the side portion 212. When the pressure control valve 10 is in a closed state, the first portion 231 presses the sealing part 30 against the top side 101 of the housing 100. "Outward" refers to the direction away from the center of the opening 103 in the plane of the top side 101 of the housing 100. "Inward" refers to the direction toward the center of the opening 103 in the plane of the top side 101 of the housing 100.

[0026] The flange 23 may have a second portion 232 extending from the first portion 231 toward the housing 100. In this case, the first portion 231 and the second portion 232 of the flange 23 and the side portion 212 of the cover body 21 form the peripheral edge 20e surrounding the opening 103 of the housing 100. In the peripheral edge 20e, a space surrounded by the first portion 231, the second portion 232, and the side portion 212 of the cover body 21 may form a groove 24 in which the sealing part 30 is housed.

[0027] The cover part 20 may include an end lock 25. The end lock 25 is connected to the shaft 22. The end lock 25 comprises, for example, a side portion 251 and a bottom portion 252 disposed below the shaft 22. The side portion 251 surrounds the shaft 22 in plan view. The side part 251 may be attached to the shaft 22. "Downward" refers to the direction from the cover part 20 toward the top side 101 along the first direction D1. As described later, "upward" refers to the direction from the top side 101 toward the cover part 20 along the first direction D1. (sealing part)

[0028] The sealing part 30 is arranged between the peripheral edge 20e of the cover part 20 and the upper side 101 of the housing 100. In a closed state in which the pressure control valve 10 is closed, the sealing part 30 is in contact with the upper side 101 of the housing 100. The sealing part 30 is, for example, a gasket. As shown in Fig. 4, the sealing part 30 can protrude downwards from the groove 24. (Elastic element)

[0029] The elastic element 40 pushes the cover part 20 toward the housing 100 along the first direction D1. The elastic element 40 expands and contracts along the first direction D1 in accordance with the movement of the cover part 20 along the first direction D1. The elastic element 40 is, for example, a spring. As described later, the elastic element 40 contracts in an open state in which the pressure control valve 10 is open, compared to the elastic element 40 in the closed state.

[0030] The elastic element 40 comprises an upper end 41 and a lower end 42. As in Fig. 4, the upper end 41 contacts the base part 50. The lower end 42 contacts the lower portion 252 of the end lock 25 of the cover part 20. The shaft 22 of the cover part 20 is inserted into the elastic element 40. (base part)

[0031] The base part 50 is attached to the housing 100. As in Fig. 2, the base part 50 may comprise a housing 51, legs 52 and fastening sections 53.

[0032] The housing 51 includes an upper portion 511, which in plan view overlaps the opening 103 of the enclosure 100, and a side portion 512 extending downward from the upper portion 511. The upper portion 511 may have a circular shape in plan view. The above-described upper end of the elastic element 40 abuts the upper portion 511. The side portion 512 may be tubular. As shown in Fig. 4, when the pressure control valve 10 is in the closed state, the shaft 22 and the end lock 25 of the cover part 20 and the elastic element 40 can be arranged in a space within the side portion 512.

[0033] As in Fig. 2 and Fig. As shown in Figure 4, an engagement portion 54 may be formed in the upper part 511 of the housing 51. The engagement portion 54 engages the shaft 22 of the cover part 20. The engagement portion 54 is, for example, a hole into which the shaft 22 is inserted.

[0034] As in Fig. 2, the legs 52 are connected to the side part 512 of the housing 51. The legs 52 extend outward from the housing 51 in plan view. The legs 52 include ends that overlap the top 101 of the enclosure 100 in plan view. The base part 50 may include a plurality of legs 52. For example, the base part 50 may include three legs 52. The legs 52 may be arranged at regular intervals in the circumferential direction of the housing 51.

[0035] The fastening sections 53 can be formed on the legs 52. The fastening sections 53 are sections of the base part 50 that are fastened to the housing 100. The fastening sections 53 are, for example, holes into which the Fig. 2. The fastening means 55 are, for example, bolts. By inserting the fastening means 55 into the fastening portions 53 of the base part 50 and the fastening holes of the housing 100 described later, and by fixing the fastening means 55 with nuts or the like (not shown), the base part 50 is fastened to the housing 100.

[0036] Next, the positional relationship between the enclosure 100 and the base part 50 is described. Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the enclosure 100 without the pressure control valve 10 attached, viewed from the rear side 102. Fig. 6 is a bottom view showing the pressure control valve 10 mounted on the enclosure 100, viewed from the rear side 102.

[0037] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 5, the opening 103 of the enclosure 100 may have an outer edge that has a substantially circular shape in plan view. Reference numeral 103e indicates an enveloping circle of the opening 103. The enveloping circle 103e consists of a circular line that encloses the outer edge of the opening 103 in a plan view.

[0038] The housing 100 may have a plurality of projections 104 that are in contact with the opening 103 and that project from the enveloping circle 103e toward the center of the opening 103. For example, the housing 100 may have three projections 104. The projections 104 may be arranged at regular intervals along the circumferential direction of the enveloping circle 103e. The mounting holes 105, into which the mounting means 55 are inserted, are formed in the projections 104. As shown in Fig. 5, the fastening holes 105 are arranged on the inside of the enveloping circle 103e.

[0039] The opening 103 preferably has a smaller projection. The projection is the ratio of the total length of the portions of the enveloping circle 103e that overlap the projections 104 to the total length of the enveloping circle 103e. As shown in Fig. As shown in Figure 6, the legs 52 of the base member 50 overlap the protrusions 104. The smaller the protrusion ratio, the greater the flow path of the fluid that can reach the outside without being obstructed by the base member 50. The smaller the protrusion ratio, the greater the flow rate of the fluid discharged to the outside. The protrusion ratio is, for example, 0.5 or more and may be 0.6 or more or 0.7 or more. The protrusion ratio is, for example, 0.9 or less.

[0040] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 6, the base member 50 is attached to the enclosure 100 such that it does not completely cover the opening 103. The base member 50 preferably has a lower coverage ratio. The coverage ratio is the ratio between the area of the portions of the base member 50 that overlap the opening 103 and the area of the opening 103. The coverage ratio is, for example, 0.8 or less and may be 0.7 or less or 0.6 or less. The coverage ratio is, for example, 0.2 or more.

[0041] Next, the operation of the pressure control valve 10 is described. Fig. 7 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the pressure regulating valve and the housing in the closed state. The elastic member 40 generates a compressive force that pushes the cover member 20 toward the housing 100. The elastic member 40 is, for example, in a compressed state. This generates a restoring force in the elastic member 40. The elastic member 40 presses the side portion 251 of the end lock 25 of the cover member 20 downward, so that the cover member 20 is pressed downward. As a result, the sealing member 30 attached to the peripheral edge 20e of the cover member 20 comes into contact with the top surface 101 of the housing 100. This seals the interior of the housing 100.

[0042] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 7, the peripheral edge 20e of the cover member 20 may be located close to the opening 103 of the enclosure 100. The shortest distance between the inner surface of the side portion 212 forming the peripheral edge 20e and the outer edge of the opening 103 is, for example, 10 mm or less, and may be 5 mm or less, 2 mm or less, or 1 mm or less. Thus, the fluid inside the enclosure 100 can be smoothly discharged to the outside in the open state described later.

[0043] Fig. 8 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the pressure control valve and housing in the open state. When the internal pressure of the enclosure 100 exceeds a predetermined threshold, the force exerted by the internal pressure on the cover member 20 is greater than the force exerted by the elastic member 40 on the cover member 20. As a result, the cover member 20 moves upward. The cover member 20 moves upward until the force exerted by the internal pressure on the cover member 20 balances the force exerted by the elastic member 40 on the cover member 20. In the open state, the elastic member 40 contracts more than the elastic member 40 in the closed state.

[0044] As the cover member 20 moves upward, a gap is formed between the peripheral edge 20e of the cover member 20 and the top surface 101 of the housing 100. As described above, the peripheral edge 20e is located near the opening 103. Furthermore, the opening 103 is not completely covered by the base member 50. Thus, the fluid inside the housing 100 can pass through the gap between the peripheral edge 20e and the top surface 101 and smoothly reach the outside of the pressure regulating valve 10. In other words, the flow rate of the fluid discharged to the outside can be increased.

[0045] As the fluid is discharged to the outside, the internal pressure decreases. When the force exerted by the internal pressure on the cover member 20 is smaller than the force exerted by the elastic member 40 on the cover member 20, the restoring force of the elastic member 40 moves the cover member 20 downward, and the pressure regulating valve 10 returns to the closed state.

[0046] It should be noted that various modifications can be made to the above-described embodiment. The modifications will be described below with reference to the drawings, where necessary. In the following description and the drawings used, components configured in the same manner as in the above-described embodiment are denoted by the same reference numerals used for the corresponding components of the above-described embodiment, and a repeated description will be omitted.

[0047] If it is clear that the effect that can be achieved by the embodiment described above can also be achieved by the modifications, a repeated description will be omitted. (First modification)

[0048] Fig. 9 and Fig. 10 are longitudinal sectional views showing a pressure regulating valve 10 according to a first modification. Fig. 9 shows the pressure control valve 10 in the closed state. Fig. 10 shows the pressure control valve 10 in the open state.

[0049] In the embodiment described above, an arrangement was chosen in which the elastic element 40 overlaps the opening 103 of the housing 100 in plan view. As shown in the Fig. 9 and Fig. 10, the elastic member 40 may also be arranged outside the opening 103. In this case, the cover member 20 includes a plurality of first pressing portions 26 connected to the cover body 21 and arranged outside the opening 103. The first pressing portions 26 are in contact with the lower end 42 of the elastic member 40. The pressing force of the elastic member 40 is transmitted to the cover body 21 via the first pressing portions 26. Furthermore, the base member 50 includes a plurality of second pressing portions 56 that are in contact with the upper end 41 of the elastic member 40 while being outside the opening 103. The second pressing portions 56 are connected to the fastening portions 53 attached to the housing 100.

[0050] Similar to the legs 52 described above, the first pressure portions 26 and the second pressure portions 56 are arranged at regular intervals along the circumferential direction of the opening 103. In other words, the cover part 20 includes gaps in which no first pressure portion 26 is formed, and the base part 50 also includes gaps in which no second pressure portion 56 is formed. When the pressure regulating valve 10 is in the open state, the fluid inside the housing 100 is discharged to the outside via the gap portions of the cover part 20, the gap portions of the base part 50, and a gap between the cover part 20 and the housing 100. In this modification, too, similar to the above-described embodiment, the fluid can smoothly enter the gap between the cover part 20 and the housing 100. This can increase the flow rate of the fluid discharged to the outside. (Second modification)

[0051] The above-described embodiment and the first modification exemplified the cover member 20 covering the opening 103 of the housing 100. In this second modification, an example is described in which a base member attached to the top surface 101 of the housing 100 has an exhaust port communicating with the opening 103 of the housing 100, and the cover member 20 covers the exhaust port of the base member. In this modification, the base member having the exhaust port communicating with the opening 103 of the housing 100 is referred to as a housing.

[0052] Fig. 11 is a partially sectioned view showing a pressure regulating valve 10 according to this modification. The pressure regulating valve 10 includes the cover member 20, the sealing member 30, the elastic member 40, and a housing 60. The housing 60 is attached to the casing 100. The casing 100 includes a plurality of mounting holes 105 for attaching the housing 60 to the casing 100. The mounting holes 105 are located outside the envelope 103e of the opening 103.

[0053] With reference to Fig. 12, the housing 60 is described in detail. The housing 60 may include a housing 61, legs 62, attachment portions 63, and an engagement portion 64. The housing 61, the legs 62, the attachment portions 63, and the engagement portion 64 are components corresponding to the housing 51, the legs 52, the attachment portions 53, and the engagement portion 54 of the base part 50. The housing 60 may further include a plurality of outer frames 67 and a plurality of outlet openings 68.

[0054] Similar to the housing 51, the housing 61 supports the elastic member 40 such that the elastic member 40 expands and contracts along the first direction D1. Similar to the housing 51, the housing 61 includes, for example, an upper portion 611 and a side portion 612. The upper end of the elastic member 40 is in contact with the upper portion 611. Similar to the engaging portion 54, the engaging portion 64, into which the shaft 22 of the cover member 20 is inserted, is formed in the upper portion 611 of the housing 61.

[0055] Similar to the legs 52, the legs 62 extend outward from the housing 61 in plan view. The legs 62 have ends that overlap the top side 101 of the housing 100 in plan view. Similar to the legs 52, the fastening sections 63 are formed at the ends of the legs 62. The fastening sections 63 are, for example, holes into which fastening means are inserted. By inserting the fastening means into the fastening sections 63 of the housing 60 and the fastening holes 105 of the housing 100 and fixing the fastening means with nuts or the like, the housing 60 is fastened to the housing 100.

[0056] The outer frames 67 are each connected to two legs 52, which are adjacent to one another in the circumferential direction of the pressure control valve 10. The two adjacent legs 52 are also referred to as the first leg 52 and the second leg 52. An outer frame 67 extends from one end of the first leg 52 to one end of the second leg 52 along the circumferential direction of the pressure control valve 10. The combination of the outer frames 67 surrounds the opening 103 of the housing 100 in plan view.

[0057] The outlet openings 68 are areas that, in plan view, are surrounded by the housing 61, the legs 62, and the outer frame 67. The outlet openings 68 at least partially overlap the opening 103 of the housing 100.

[0058] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 12, grooves 67a may be formed in the upper surfaces of the outer frames 67, in which the sealing member 30 is housed. When the pressure control valve 10 is in a closed state, the sealing member 30 is in contact with the housing 60 and the cover member 20.

[0059] The operation of the pressure regulating valve 10 is described below. The cover part 20 includes a peripheral edge that surrounds the outlet openings 68 of the housing 60 in plan view. When the pressure regulating valve 10 is in the closed state, the elastic element 40 generates a compressive force that pushes the cover part 20 toward the housing 100. As a result, the peripheral edge of the cover part 20 comes into contact with the sealing part 30 attached to the outer frame 67 of the housing 60. This closes the outlet openings 68 of the housing 60.

[0060] When the internal pressure of the enclosure 100 exceeds a predetermined threshold, the force exerted by the internal pressure on the cover member 20 is greater than the force exerted by the elastic member 40 on the cover member 20. As a result, the cover member 20 moves upward. The cover member 20 moves upward until the force exerted by the internal pressure on the cover member 20 balances the force exerted by the elastic member 40 on the cover member 20. This enables an open state in which the opening 103 and the outlet openings 68 are open. In the open state, the elastic member 40 contracts more than the elastic member 40 in the closed state.

[0061] As the cover member 20 moves upward, a gap is formed between the peripheral edge of the cover member 20 and the outer frame 67 of the housing 60. As described above, the outlet ports 68 of the housing 60 overlap the opening 103 of the casing 100. In other words, the outlet ports 68 communicate with the opening 103. The liquid inside the casing 100 flows through the opening 103 of the casing 100 and the outlet ports 68 of the housing 60 and is then discharged to the outside from the gap between the casing 60 and the cover member 20.

[0062] As the fluid is discharged to the outside, the internal pressure decreases. When the force exerted by the internal pressure on the cover member 20 is smaller than the force exerted by the elastic member 40 on the cover member 20, the restoring force of the elastic member 40 moves the cover member 20 downward, and the pressure regulating valve 10 returns to the closed state. (Third modification)

[0063] An example of the structure of the cover part 20 is described below. As in Fig. 12, the cover member 20 may include a protective wall 27 extending from a central portion of the bottom surface of the upper portion 211 of the cover body 21 toward the enclosure 100. When the pressure regulating valve 10 is in the closed state, the protective wall 27 is disposed outside the casing 61 of the housing 60. The protective wall 27 may be tubular and cover the casing 61 in the radial direction of the pressure regulating valve 10. The protective wall 27 serves to protect the casing 61 and the shaft 22. For example, in the event of a fire inside the enclosure 100, the protective wall 27 prevents the casing 61 and the shaft 22 from being exposed to hot air. By protecting the casing 61 and the shaft 22, the opening / closing function of the cover member 20 can be prevented from being lost.

[0064] Although not shown, the cover part 20 may also have a protective wall 27 in the embodiment described above. For example, in the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 to 8, the cover part 20 comprises the protective wall 27, which is arranged outside the housing 51 of the base part 50. (Fourth modification)

[0065] An exemplary configuration of the housing 60 is described below. As shown in Fig. As shown in Figure 12, the housing 60 may include a metal bracket 60A and a plastic layer 60B. The metal bracket 60A is a member made by bending a metal plate. The metal bracket 60A includes a bent portion where the metal plate is bent. The plastic layer 60B contacts the metal bracket 60A.

[0066] The housing 60, which includes the metal bracket 60A and the plastic layer 60B, is manufactured, for example, by insert molding. Insert molding includes, for example, a process in which the metal bracket 60A is placed between a first mold and a second mold, and plastic is injected between the first mold and the second mold.

[0067] The metal bracket 60A preferably forms at least a part of the housing 60 that supports the elastic element 40 and a part of the housing 60 that is attached to the top 101 of the enclosure 100. For example, the metal bracket 60A is preferably arranged on the housing 61 and the legs 62. The metal bracket 60A consists, for example, of a single metal plate that extends to the housing 61 and the legs 62. The metal bracket 60A can also be attached to the outer frame 67 in addition to the housing 61 and the legs 62. For example, the metal bracket 60A consisting of a single metal plate can extend to the housing 61, the legs 62, and the outer frame 67.

[0068] By using the metal bracket 60A, the heat resistance of the housing 60 can be increased. For example, in the event of a fire inside the enclosure 100, the housing 61 can be prevented from falling. This can prevent the opening / closing function of the cover part 20 from being lost. Thus, after a fire, explosion, or the like, the cover part 20, if it is in the open state, can return to the closed state. When the cover part 20 returns to the closed state, the oxygen supply from the outside to the interior of the enclosure 100 is cut off. This can prevent a second fire, explosion, or the like.

[0069] Although not shown, the base part 50, which corresponds to the housing 60, may also comprise a metal holder and a plastic layer in the embodiment described above. For example, in the embodiment shown in the Fig.In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 to 8, the metal bracket forms at least a portion of the base part 50 supporting the elastic element 40 and a portion of the base part 50 secured to the top side 101 of the housing 100. For example, the metal bracket is preferably arranged on the housing 51 and the legs 52. For example, the metal bracket, which consists of a single metal plate, extends to the housing 51 and the legs 52. (Other modifications)
