AI Technical Summary
Metal strips used as inserts in motor vehicle sealing, decorative, or edge strips face issues with insufficient strength in the longitudinal direction due to incisions for anchoring the coating material, leading to tearing or detachment, especially when coated with rubber or plastic.
Incorporating uncut areas across the width of the metal strip, combined with strategically arranged incisions, ensures sufficient tensile strength while maintaining effective coating adhesion, achieved through methods like rotary cutting, laser cutting, and rolling stretching.
The solution provides enhanced tensile strength in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip while ensuring robust anchoring of the coating, reducing the risk of tearing and improving production efficiency by minimizing the need for adhesion promoters and environmental emissions.

Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a metal strip as an insert for sealing, decorative or edge strips, in particular for motor vehicles, with a plurality of incisions extending transversely to the longitudinal extent of the metal strip, in particular periodically, successively in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the metal strip.
[0002] Furthermore, the present invention relates to a sealing, decorative or edge strip with such a metal strip as an insert.
[0003] Metal strips of the type mentioned above are used particularly in the automotive sector as inserts for sealing strips to seal engine compartment, trunk, and door openings, as well as decorative or edge strips. These continuously manufactured metal strips are coated with rubber and / or flexible or elastic plastic and feature slits that are at least partially open to allow the coating material to penetrate the metal strip. This improves the adhesion and bonding between the coating material and the metal, which is otherwise very poor due to the different materials. There are also adhesive-coated metal strips, but these are relatively expensive and their production is very energy-intensive, resulting in climate-damaging emissions in the form of CO2 and solvents.Such metal strips can be produced by cutting, in particular rotary cutting or laser cutting, with the cut strips subsequently being lengthened, in particular by rolling and / or die-cutting, to open the incisions created by the cutting process. Suitable metals include, in particular, aluminum, aluminum alloys, steel, including micro-alloyed or multi-phase steel, and stainless steel.
[0004] The metal strips are bent into a mostly U-shaped clamping profile before or after being coated with the coating material. This profile is then clamped onto the sealing flanges of the vehicle opening. V-shaped and S-shaped clamping profiles are also known. Due to the cuts necessary for anchoring the coating material to the metal strip, the metal strips lack sufficient strength in their longitudinal direction. Particularly during the coating process, which is usually carried out by extrusion, the strips can break or tear.
[0005] The invention therefore aims to provide a metal strip of the type mentioned above which does not exhibit this problem or only to a lesser extent. In particular, sufficient strength of the metal strip in its longitudinal direction should be achieved despite good anchoring of the coating to the metal strip.
[0006] This problem is solved by a metal strip having the features of claim 1.
[0007] Due to the presence of at least one uncut area across the width of the metal strip, where no cuts are present along its entire length, sufficient tensile strength of the metal strip can be achieved in its longitudinal direction. Since, in addition to this uncut area, there is also at least one area with cuts, sufficient anchoring of the coating to the metal strip can still be guaranteed.
[0008] The uncut areas can have a width of 1 mm or more, in particular 1.5 mm or more, preferably 2 mm or more. This has proven advantageous for achieving sufficient tensile strength in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip.
[0009] At least one uncut area can comprise one of the two lateral edges of the metal strip. This edge of the metal strip therefore has no cuts. According to a particular embodiment of the invention, both lateral edges of the metal strip are formed without cuts, thus having an uncut area. Alternatively or additionally, an area without cuts can be provided in a central region of the metal strip. This allows for particularly precise adjustment of the desired tensile strength of the metal strip in the longitudinal direction.
[0010] The uncut sections of the metal strip can be positioned symmetrically to its central longitudinal axis, or asymmetrically. This increases the possibilities for combining suitable tensile strength with good adhesive properties of the metal strip.
[0011] The areas with incisions in the metal strip can also be arranged symmetrically or asymmetrically to the central longitudinal axis of the metal strip in order to advantageously adjust desired properties.
[0012] The notches in the metal strip can have an opening width in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip of 0.1 mm to 2 mm, in particular 0.2 to 1.2 mm, preferably 0.3 to 0.9 mm. This allows for advantageous adjustment of the anchoring of a coating to the metal strip.
[0013] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the metal strip is produced by rotary cutting or laser cutting followed by lengthening, in particular rolling. This yields advantageous results for the metal strip.
[0014] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the metal strip is roughened at least in certain areas when viewed in the transverse direction, particularly in areas with incisions. This further improves the adhesion of a coating to the metal strip.
[0015] In a further embodiment of the invention, the metal strip can be rolled in the uncut areas. At least one uncut area can therefore have a rolling mark. This can advantageously influence the properties of the metal strip, in particular its tensile strength in the longitudinal direction of the strip.
[0016] According to a further embodiment of the invention, at least two adjacent rows of successive incisions in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip are provided, arranged in the transverse direction of the metal strip. The incisions of the two rows are alternately offset from one another in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip, so that, viewed in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip, the incisions of the two rows are not at the same height. Furthermore, the incisions of the two rows overlap only minimally or have only a minimal distance from one another transversely to the longitudinal direction of the metal strip. This creates a kind of neutral fiber between the incisions of the aforementioned rows, which further increases the tensile strength of the metal strip in its longitudinal direction.
[0017] According to one embodiment of the invention, the overlap of the incisions is 1 mm or less, 0.8 mm or less, 0.5 mm or less, in particular 0.2 mm or less, preferably 0 mm. An overlap of this magnitude has proven to be particularly advantageous.
[0018] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the distance between the incisions is 1 mm or less, 0.8 mm or less, 0.5 mm or less, in particular 0.2 mm or less, preferably 0 mm. This also allows for an advantageous tensile strength of the metal strip in its longitudinal direction.
[0019] According to one embodiment of the invention, the width of the incisions in the transverse direction of the metal strip is 0.5 mm to 10 mm, in particular 1 mm to 7 mm, preferably 1.5 mm to 4 mm. Especially small incisions, made in large numbers, lead to good mechanical anchoring of the coating and to advantageous tensile strength of the metal strip in its longitudinal direction.
[0020] In a further embodiment of the invention, in which the metal strip is produced by cutting and subsequent lengthening, the lengthening preferably continues until a rounded shape is formed at the end(s) of the incisions located inside the strip. The strip thus produced is largely equivalent to a stamped strip, but is simpler and less expensive to manufacture. The incisions preferably have an opening width in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip of 0.1 mm to 2 mm, in particular 0.2 mm to 1.2 mm, more preferably 0.3 mm to 0.9 mm.
[0021] The incisions of at least one of the two rows preferably terminate in one of the two side edges of the metal strip or in neither of the two side edges of the metal strip. This allows advantageous properties of the metal strip to be achieved with regard to its bendability and compressibility.
[0022] According to one embodiment of the invention, at least one further series of incisions is provided, wherein the incisions of at least one further series preferably open into one of the two side edges of the metal strip, or of at least one further series do not open into either of the two side edges of the metal strip. Advantageous properties of the metal strip can also be achieved in this way.
[0023] According to a further embodiment of the invention, which is also claimed separately, at least one series of successive longitudinal incisions are provided in the metal strip, the incisions being opened by lengths of the metal strip, wherein the end regions of the incisions, viewed in the transverse direction of the metal strip, are closed again at least partially on at least one side by rolling following the opening. This also increases the tensile strength of the metal strip in the longitudinal direction. An advantageous adjustment of the bendability of the metal strip can also be achieved in this way.
[0024] According to a further development of the invention, the closed end regions of the incisions can have a length in the transverse direction of the metal strip of 0.1 mm to 10 mm, in particular 0.3 mm to 5 mm, preferably 0.5 mm to 2 mm. This allows advantageous properties of the metal strip to be achieved.
[0025] According to a further development of the invention, the rolling process for closing the cuts in an end region is preferably carried out with a rolling groove depth of less than 0.3 mm, in particular between 0.01 mm and 0.2 mm, preferably between 0.02 mm and 0.1 mm. This also allows advantageous properties of the metal strip to be achieved, which positively influence the tensile strength in the longitudinal direction. Thus, the process comes comparable to a strip with at least one uncut section.
[0026] The metal strip according to the invention can advantageously be bent into a U, V or S profile. Such profiles can be used particularly advantageously in the automotive sector.
[0027] The invention further comprises a sealing, decorative, or edge strip consisting of a metal strip of the type described above or a profile produced therefrom, and a coating of rubber and / or a flexible or elastic plastic, wherein the incisions in the metal strip are at least partially penetrated by the coating. Such strips can be advantageously used in the automotive sector.
[0028] It is particularly advantageous if no adhesion promoter is present between the metal strip and the profile coating. This reduces costs and avoids environmentally harmful emissions.
[0029] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the metal strip is not broken in the finished strip. This advantageously preserves the tensile strength in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip.
[0030] Exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown schematically in the drawings and are described below. They show: Fig. Figures 1 to 30 show a top view (even numbered figures) or a cross-section (odd numbered figures) of embodiments of a metal strip according to the invention and Fig. Figures 31 to 40 show a top view of further embodiments of the metal strip according to the invention.
[0031] The metal strips 1 shown in the figures have a plurality of successive incisions 2 along the longitudinal direction I of the metal strip. The incisions 2 are arranged periodically in successive rows 3 along the longitudinal direction I of the metal strip 1, and, viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1, are adjacent to one another. The incisions 2 can open into one of the two lateral edges 4 of the metal strip 1. However, it is also possible for incisions 2 to be provided that do not open into either of the two lateral edges 4 of the metal strip 1.
[0032] The metal bands 1 of the Fig. 13 to 38 are stretched so far in the longitudinal direction I of the metal strip 1 that a rounding is achieved at the ends of the incisions 2.
[0033] In the Fig. 1 and Fig. 3. There are two rows 31 and 35 of incisions 2, each terminating in a lateral edge 4 of the metal band 1. Additionally, there are three rows 32, 33, and 34 of incisions 2 that do not terminate in either lateral edge 4 of the metal band 1. Between the incisions 2 that do not terminate in a lateral edge 4 of the metal band 1 and the incisions 2 that do terminate in an edge 4 of the metal band 1, there is an uncut area 5. Fig. 1. These two uncut areas 5 are not rolled, whereas they are in the case of the metal strip from Fig. 3 are rolled, so that a rolling mark 12 is visible in each case. The incisions 2 that do not open into either of the two edges 4 of the metal strip 1 overlap each other when viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1.
[0034] The metal band of Fig. 5 largely matches the metal band of Fig. 3 agree. However, the metal strip exhibits a surface roughening 7 in the area of the incisions that do not open into either of the two side edges 4 of the metal strip 1, whereas such roughening is not present in the metal strip of Fig. 3 is not available.
[0035] The metal band of the Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 has no incisions in the area of its two side edges 4. In the intervening area of the metal strip 1, there are nine rows 3 of incisions 2, which do not lead into either of the two side edges 4 of the metal strip and overlap each other when viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1. The uncut areas 5 of the metal strip 1 are rolled again here, thus exhibiting a rolling mark 12. The metal strip of Fig. 9 and Fig. 10 matches the metal band of the Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 matches, but does not show rolling mark 12.
[0036] The metal band Fig. 11 and Fig. 12 is in addition to the two uncut areas 5 in the area of the two side edges 4 of the metal band 1 of Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 Additionally, an uncut area 5 is present in the middle of the metal strip 1. The uncut areas 5 each have a rolling mark 12.
[0037] The metal band of the Fig. 13 and Fig. 14 largely corresponds to the metal band of the Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 agree. However, the incisions 2, which do not lead into a side edge 4 of the metal band 1, overlap in the metal band 1 of Fig. 13 and Fig. 14. They are not connected to each other. They also do not have a distance between them, but form a neutral fiber 6 between them.
[0038] The metal band of the Fig. 15 and Fig. 16 matches the metal band of the Fig. 13 and Fig. 14 largely agree. The metal band of the Fig. 15 and Fig. However, in the area of the incisions 2 that do not open into either of the two side edges 4 of the metal strip 1, 16 exhibits a surface roughening 7, whereas such a roughening is not present in the metal strip of Fig. 13 and Fig. 14 is not available.
[0039] The metal bands of the Fig. 17 to 20 largely agree with the metal band of the Fig. 15 and Fig. 16 agree. However, the uncut areas 5 are arranged asymmetrically to the longitudinal center III of the metal strip 1 and also have a different width B in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1.
[0040] The metal bands of the Fig. 21 to 24 match the metal bands of the Fig. 7 to 10 largely agree. In contrast to these metal strips, however, the incisions 2 do not overlap with each other when viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1. Rather, they each form a neutral fiber 6 between them. The metal strips 1 of the Fig. 21 to 24 can be executed with or without surface roughening 7 in the area of the incisions 2.
[0041] The metal band 1 of the Fig. 25 and Fig. 26 largely corresponds to the metal band of the Fig. 11 and Fig. 12 agree. Here too, the difference lies in the fact that the incisions 2, viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1, do not overlap with each other, but each form a neutral fiber 6 between them. The metal strips 1 of the Fig. 25 and Fig. 26 can be executed with or without surface roughening 7 in the area of the incisions 2.
[0042] The metal band of the Fig. 27 and Fig. 28 matches the metal band 1 of the Fig. 25 and Fig. 26 largely agree. In contrast to the other, the metal band 1 of the Fig. 27 and Fig. 28, however, no rolling track 12.
[0043] The metal band Fig. 29 and Fig. In the area of one lateral edge 4, there is an uncut area 5, while in the area of the other lateral edge 4, there are incisions 2 opening into it. A further uncut area 5 adjoins the inner end of these incisions 2. Between the two uncut areas 5, there are eight rows of incisions 2 that do not open into either of the two lateral edges 4. These incisions 2 do not overlap with each other when viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1. The uncut areas 5 each have a rolling mark 12. The metal strip 1 of Fig. 29 and Fig. 30 can be executed with or without surface roughening 7 in the area of the incisions 2.
[0044] The metal band of Fig. 31 largely matches the metal band of Fig. 13. In contrast to this metal strip, the two uncut areas 5 are so small that they can be equated with a neutral fiber 6. In this version, there is only one row 3 of central incisions 2, which do not extend into either of the two side edges 4. The area of these incisions 2 can be produced with or without surface roughening 7.
[0045] The metal bands of the Fig. 32 and Fig. 33 exhibit two uncut areas 5 in the central region of the metal strip 1. There are two rows of incisions 2, each opening into a lateral edge 4 of the metal strip. Between the two uncut areas 5 are five further rows of incisions 2, which do not open into either of the lateral edges and do not overlap when viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1. In the case of the metal strip of Fig. 32 the uncut areas 5 are provided with a rolling mark 12, where the metal strip 1 of Fig. 33, however, does not. The metal band 1 of Fig. 32 and of Fig. 33 can be executed with or without surface roughening 7 in the area of the middle cuts 2.
[0046] The metal band of Fig. 34 There are three uncut areas 5, one of which is located in the area of a side edge 4 of the metal strip and the other two uncut areas 5 in the middle area of the metal strip 1. Further cuts 2 open into the other side edge 4 of the metal strip 1. The uncut areas 5 each have a rolling mark 12. Between the uncut areas 5 there are three rows of cuts 2, which do not open into any side edge 4 of the metal strip 1 and which, viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1, do not overlap or have any spacing between them.
[0047] The metal band of Fig. 35 There are two uncut areas 5, one of which is located in the area of a lateral edge 4, while incisions 2 open into the other lateral edge 4. Between the two uncut areas 5 are eight rows of incisions 2, which do not open into either of the two lateral edges 4 of the metal strip 1 and which, viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1, do not overlap with each other and are not spaced apart. The uncut areas 5 are each provided with a rolling mark 12.
[0048] The metal band of Fig. 36 matches the metal band from Fig. 35 largely agree. However, between the two uncut areas 5 there are eleven rows of incisions 2 which do not open into either of the two lateral edges 4 of the metal strip and which, viewed in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1, do not overlap with each other and are not spaced apart. In addition, the uncut areas 5 of this metal strip show no rolling mark.
[0049] The metal band of Fig. 37 largely matches the metal band of Fig. 11 and Fig. 12 agree. However, the incisions 2 in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1 do not overlap with each other and have no distance from each other, but each has a neutral fiber 6 between them.
[0050] The metal band of Fig. 38 largely matches the metal band of Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 agree. Here too, the difference lies in the fact that the incisions 2 in the transverse direction II of the metal strip 1 do not overlap with each other and have no distance from each other, but each form a neutral fiber 6 between them.
[0051] The metal bands of the Fig. 34 and Fig. 35, as well as 37 and 38, can be executed with or without surface roughening 7 in the area of the incisions 2.
[0052] The metal band of Fig. 39 has two rows 31 and 35 of incisions 2, each opening into a side edge 4 of the metal band 1. On the inside of these two rows 31 and 35, there is an uncut area 5 in each case. Between the two uncut areas 5 are three rows 32, 33, and 34 of incisions 2, each opening into one of the two side edges of the metal band 1. The incisions 2 are each widened by lengths of the metal band 1. The special feature of the metal band of Fig. 39 consists in the fact that the end regions 13, viewed in the transverse direction III of the metal strip I, of the cuts 2 were at least partially closed again by rolling. Thus, between each two adjacent rows 3 of cuts 2 there is a rolling mark 12.
[0053] Even with the metal band from Fig. 40 The end areas 13 of the cuts 2 are partially closed again by rollers. In contrast to the metal strip of Fig. However, in 39 there are only three rows 3 of incisions 2 present here, which do not lead into any lateral edge 4 of the metal band. Instead, there are uncut areas 5 in the area of the two lateral edges of the metal band 1. Reference symbol list 1 metal band 2.
