Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a plantable brickwork comprising a first facing panel extending in a zx-plane and a second facing panel extending parallel to and spaced from the first facing panel. Furthermore, the invention relates to a wall made of plantable brickwork.
[0002] Bricks of the type mentioned above are state of the art in various designs and are used to build walls whose vertical visible surfaces can be greened, i.e. at least partially provided with plants or covered with plants.
[0003] The vertical direction here refers to the direction of gravity, which will be referred to as the z-direction for short. The extension of a brick measured in the z-direction is referred to as the brick's height. In relation to the z-direction, two opposite sides of the brick are referred to as a top side and a bottom side.
[0004] The brick further defines a longitudinal direction perpendicular to the z-direction, which will be referred to as the x-direction for short. An extension of a brick measured in the x-direction is referred to as a brick length. In relation to the x-direction, two opposite sides of the brick are referred to as end faces. To form a wall, a plurality of bricks are stacked in both the z-direction and the x-direction. Two bricks are stacked by arranging them adjacent to each other, with their sides facing each other being brought into contact with each other.
[0005] The brick also defines a width direction perpendicular to the z-direction and the x-direction, which will be referred to as the y-direction for short. An extension of the brick measured in the y-direction is referred to as the brick's width. In relation to the y-direction, two opposite sides of the brick are referred to as the visible sides. In a wall formed from several bricks, the visible panels of adjacent bricks fit flush with one another. The outer surfaces of the visible panels form two opposite vertical visible surfaces of the wall, each interrupted only by a rectangular pattern of unavoidable joints.
[0006] Accordingly, an xy-plane is understood as a plane perpendicular to the z-direction, a yz-plane as a plane perpendicular to the x-direction, and a zx-plane as a plane perpendicular to the y-direction. The xy-plane, the yz-plane, and the zx-plane are therefore perpendicular to each other.
[0007] One object of the invention is to provide a plantable wall block that enables the construction of a particularly stable, efficiently irrigable, and very flexibly plantable wall. A further object of the invention is to provide a plantable wall.
[0008] One subject of the invention is a brick that comprises a first exposed panel extending in a zx-plane and a second exposed panel extending parallel to and spaced from the first exposed panel. The brick can be referred to as a formwork block and is suitable for planting, i.e., for being provided with one or more plants and supporting their long-term growth. Outer surfaces of the exposed panels of several stacked bricks accordingly form a first exposed surface and a second exposed surface, arranged opposite the first exposed surface, of a wall constructed from the bricks.
[0009] A cavity is formed between the first facing plate and the second facing plate, which can be described as a planting chamber of the brick.
[0010] According to the invention, the brick further comprises at least one connecting wall extending in a yz-plane and arranged between the first facing panel and the second facing panel, wherein each connecting wall is arranged at a distance from each x-edge of each facing panel. In other words, the brick has a recess on each end face delimited by the first facing panel, the second facing panel, and a connecting wall. Two mutually facing recesses of bricks adjacent to each other in the x-direction together form a planting chamber of the two bricks. Of course, the brick can comprise a plurality of connecting walls, for example, exactly two or exactly three connecting walls.
[0011] In contrast, the brick does not have a slab extending in an xy-plane, i.e., it has neither a floor nor a ceiling. In other words, the brick is permeable in the z-direction. As a result, cavities of bricks adjacent in the z-direction are connected to each other. In other words, the brick enables the construction of walls that are permeable in the z-direction. As a result, planting chambers of bricks that are adjacent in the z-direction are connected. Bricks that are adjacent in the z-direction define a connected planting space composed of the planting chambers of each brick.
[0012] Preferably, each connecting wall extends from the first visible panel to the second visible panel. Each connecting wall defines a distance between the second visible panel and the first visible panel and permanently connects the first visible panel and the second visible panel.
[0013] The brick may comprise a first reinforcement plate extending parallel to and spaced from the first facing plate and arranged between the first facing plate and the second facing plate, and a second reinforcement plate extending parallel to and spaced from the first reinforcement plate and the second facing plate. The first reinforcement plate and the second reinforcement plate advantageously have identical lengths. Ideally, the lengths of the first reinforcement plate and / or the second reinforcement plate are identical to the lengths of the first facing plate and / or the second facing plate.
[0014] The first and second reinforcement plates form a cavity that can be referred to as a concrete chamber. Concrete can be placed in concrete chambers of adjacent bricks in the z-direction, which penetrates the adjacent bricks in the z-direction and fixes the adjacent bricks relative to each other, at least in the xy-plane.
[0015] Advantageously, one connecting wall extends from the first visible panel to the first reinforcement panel, from the first reinforcement panel to the second reinforcement panel, and from the second reinforcement panel to the second visible panel. The two reinforcement panels require a total of at least three connecting walls connecting the first visible panel to the second visible panel. The three connecting walls can be arranged at the same location relative to the x-direction or offset relative to the x-direction.
[0016] The first reinforcement plate and the second reinforcement plate can be arranged offset relative to the first facing plate and the second facing plate with respect to the x-direction of the brick. In this case, the first reinforcement plate and / or the second reinforcement plate protrude in the x-direction on a first end face of the brick from x-edges of the first facing plate and / or the second facing plate, while the first facing plate and the second facing plate protrude in the x-direction on a second end face of the brick opposite the first end face from x-edges of the first connecting plate and / or the second connecting plate. In this way, two bricks are in mutual engagement when the two bricks are arranged adjacent with respect to the x-direction.
[0017] At least one facing panel has at least one notch which runs continuously in a y-direction of the brick, which notch is arranged on a z-edge of the facing panel and at a distance from each x-edge. Each notch can be referred to as a planting opening. Each notch can be passed through by one or more plants, more precisely by a stem of a plant or several stems of several plants. Several notches in a brick can have an identical shape and / or be arranged equidistant with respect to the x-direction. Apart from that, notches formed in the first facing panel and in the second facing panel can be aligned with one another, i.e. can be arranged at the same location with respect to the x-direction.
[0018] Advantageously, each notch has an at least substantially triangular cross-section. Triangular notches can be manufactured particularly easily and in a size suitable for planting the brick.
[0019] On opposite end faces of each facing panel and each reinforcing panel relative to the x-direction, a continuous groove extending in the z-direction and a continuous ridge extending in a z-direction of the brick can be formed and arranged in such a way that a ridge of a first brick engages in a groove of a second brick when the first brick and the second brick are arranged next to one another and in mutual contact relative to the x-direction. The grooves and corresponding ridges facilitate the relative alignment of bricks relative to the y-direction that are arranged adjacently relative to the x-direction. In addition, interlocking grooves and ridges increase the tightness of a joint formed between two bricks arranged adjacently relative to the x-direction.
[0020] In one embodiment, each connecting wall extends from a z-edge of the brick and has a lower height measured in the z-direction than the respective visible panels and reinforcement panels connected by the connecting wall. In other words, the brick has an opening in the x-direction. A drip hose extending in the x-direction and / or a reinforcing strut extending in the x-direction can be arranged in the opening, each of which penetrates the brick.
[0021] Another subject of the invention is a wall comprising a plurality of bricks stacked in a z-direction and an x-direction. The first facing panels and the second facing panels of the stacked bricks form a first facing surface and a second facing surface of the wall, arranged opposite the first facing surface. The first facing surface and the second facing surface of the wall are each an outer surface of the wall.
[0022] According to the invention, each brick is designed as a brick according to an embodiment of the invention. With the bricks according to the invention, the wall is constructed particularly stably, irrigated efficiently, and planted very flexibly.
[0023] Two bricks adjacent in the z-direction can be offset relative to each other in the x-direction. This way, each visible surface of the wall exhibits an interesting joint pattern, i.e., an interesting tiling. Notches in bricks adjacent in the z-direction can also be offset relative to the x-direction, resulting in an interesting notch pattern.
[0024] The wall can comprise a drip hose that extends in the x-direction from a first end face of the wall to a second end face of the wall opposite the first end face of the wall. The drip hose has a plurality of irrigation holes through which water arranged in the drip hose can exit to irrigate plants in each planting space of the wall, i.e., each planting chamber of a wall unit of the wall. The drip hose extends through aligned passages of a plurality of adjacent wall units in relation to the x-direction, wherein the passages are formed by connecting walls of a lower height. Of course, the wall can comprise a plurality of drip hoses. In particular, exactly one drip hose or several drip hoses, for example exactly two drip hoses, can extend through each wall unit. In this way, a uniform and intensive, i.e.,efficient watering of the wall.
[0025] Advantageously, the wall includes a vertical reinforcement strut extending in the z-direction and penetrating the wall. The vertical reinforcement strut extends through a concrete chamber of the wall, which is formed by several concrete chambers of the wall's bricks. The vertical reinforcement strut increases the stability of the wall in the z-direction or in the zx-plane. The vertical reinforcement strut can, in particular, be fixed in a foundation of the wall, which is erected on an underside of the wall and supports the wall.
[0026] Alternatively or additionally, the wall may include a horizontal reinforcement strut extending in the x-direction from a first end face of the wall to a second end face of the wall opposite the first end face. The horizontal reinforcement strut may extend through the same openings in the bricks as the drip hose. The horizontal reinforcement strut increases the stability of the wall in the x-direction or in the xy-plane.
[0027] The vertical reinforcement strut and the horizontal reinforcement strut are ideally connected to each other at an intersection point and are permanently connected. This increases the stability of the wall in every direction and at every level.
[0028] In particular, the wall may include a plurality of horizontal reinforcement struts and a plurality of vertical reinforcement struts forming a continuous reinforcement grid. In particular, the horizontal and vertical reinforcement struts may form a regular and / or close-meshed reinforcement grid, which results in a high level of wall stability.
[0029] The vertical reinforcement struts and the horizontal reinforcement struts may comprise or be made of steel.
[0030] The wall preferably comprises a concrete that is arranged in a continuous cavity formed between the first reinforcement plates and the second reinforcement plates of the bricks and that extends through the wall in the x-direction and the z-direction. The concrete fixes the stacked bricks relative to one another. If the wall has steel vertical and / or horizontal reinforcement struts, the concrete surrounds the steel vertical and / or horizontal reinforcement struts and, together with them, forms a so-called reinforced concrete, which provides the wall with particularly high stability.
[0031] In a practically relevant embodiment, the wall comprises a planting soil arranged in a continuous cavity formed between the facing panels and the reinforcement plates of the wall blocks, which extends through the wall in the x-direction and the z-direction. The cavity consists of the planting chambers of the wall blocks and can be referred to as the planting space of the wall. If the wall blocks each have two reinforcement plates, the wall accordingly has two planting spaces that extend parallel to each other in the zx-plane.
[0032] A key advantage of the inventive wall block is that it enables the construction of a particularly stable, efficiently irrigated, and highly flexible wall for planting. The wall can be planted either on one or both visible surfaces.
