Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a technical device for the autonomous and safe provision and return of waste bins or waste containers for emptying and filling operations between private and commercial households, facilities, properties and waste disposal services.
[0002] Waste disposal involves the transfer of waste bins / containers between private / commercial households and waste disposal services. A waste container system includes waste bins / containers (up to 1,100 liters), regardless of their specific design, size, or material composition.
[0003] The system is essentially installed at the exact boundary between private property and public road space. It serves as a structural interface that makes waste bins / containers both accessible for households to fill and controlled for removal by the waste disposal service.
[0004] The trash cans / containers are placed with their handles facing the street so that they can be easily pulled out and put back in by the waste disposal company.
[0005] Manually delivering waste bins / containers to the waste collection service is a common, yet often problematic, task for households. The main reason is that the bins / containers must be manually pushed to the curb and placed for collection, which requires considerable time and effort for many people. Transporting these heavy and bulky bins / containers to the collection point once or more per week is particularly challenging for people with health conditions, the elderly, or people with physical disabilities. It is also necessary to closely monitor the collection calendar to ensure that the correct bins are placed on each collection day.
[0006] Manual provisioning and scheduling can be divided into the following sub-aspects: Physical strain: Regularly pushing out the waste bins / containers requires physical effort, especially with large waste containers that are difficult to move when full. Time expenditure: The provision of waste bins / waste containers requires regular attention and planning, which is particularly stressful for working people or older people. Forgetting collection dates: Households must actively ensure that collections are scheduled correctly. Forgetting or missing collections can lead to overflowing garbage bins / containers, hygiene problems, and clutter on the property.
[0007] In addition to the above disadvantages, there are also traffic disruptions and hazards in the road space. This means that another serious problem is that garbage bins / containers on sidewalks or curbs often pose a traffic obstruction and compromise public safety. Specifically, the disruptions include: Obstruction of vision for road users: Garbage bins / waste containers placed on curves or at driveways can obstruct the view of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Dangers for pedestrians, wheelchair users and strollers: Garbage cans / waste containers placed on narrow sidewalks often pose obstacles for people with limited mobility. Danger of strong winds: Especially in strong winds, empty or half-filled garbage bins / containers can tip over and be blown onto the road, which poses a significant safety risk to road traffic. Garbage bins / containers not properly returned: Garbage bins / containers are often not properly returned after being emptied and are left unchecked at the side of the road or on sidewalks, which restricts the use of the paths.
[0008] Furthermore, environmental and hygiene-related problems arise. In addition to the logistical and traffic-related challenges associated with current manual waste disposal, these include: Hygiene concerns: Garbage can handles are touched by multiple households as well as waste disposal personnel, which can lead to the transmission of germs and bacteria from household to household. Missing cover: Open or broken trash cans / containers can cause unpleasant odors and attract vermin. Illegal waste disposal: Unauthorized third parties may dump waste into publicly accessible trash bins / containers, which may lead to increased fees and additional disposal problems.
[0009] Due to the disadvantages of known systems mentioned above, the object of the invention is to create a waste container system that overcomes these disadvantages and is easy to set up.
[0010] The object underlying the invention is achieved by the waste container system according to claim 1. Preferred embodiments are the subject of subclaims 2 to 15.
[0011] The essential idea of the invention is that the waste container system comprises a rectangular spacer frame or a housing with an opening to a street and an opening to a household side, wherein the waste lock primarily enables automated and secondarily ergonomic, safe and hygienic disposal for waste bins / waste containers by accommodating them within a closed structure and ensuring a safe, efficient and fully automated disposal process.
[0012] The waste container system according to the invention solves the aforementioned problems of the state of the art and offers a fully automated, safe, and hygienic solution to eliminate the manual transport of waste bins / containers to the street, minimize traffic hazards, and increase convenience for households. At the same time, the waste lock optimizes waste management time management by enabling structured, automated, and barrier-free disposal, thereby reducing waiting times and accelerating emptying processes. The targeted placement of the waste bins / containers in a secure unit minimizes inefficient search and maneuvering movements by waste trucks, leading to a significant increase in disposal efficiency.
[0013] The present invention provides a technical device with the function of a lock, which enables the autonomous and contactless provision of waste bins / containers for waste disposal by waste transport services. This is achieved by a structural device installed at the property boundary between the private / commercial area and the public road.
[0014] The waste lock principle can be implemented through various design variants that are individually adapted to site conditions. However, they all have one thing in common: Garbage bins / waste containers are placed in a closed unit with the handle facing the street and are only accessible from the household side. The waste transport side is secured by a lockable device (e.g. blind, roller shutter, swivel or sliding mechanism). Disposal is carried out contactlessly using an automated "Kolibri" waste bin lid opener. This mechanism allows the bin lid to be opened and closed automatically as soon as the bin is in a defined position within the lock. Access to the waste bins / containers is only controlled and planned, which improves both hygiene and safety.
[0015] The basic principle of the waste lock is that waste bins / containers are placed within a permanently installed unit, with the handles facing the street. The construction is designed so that the household side provides access for filling the waste bins / containers. This is achieved either through an open rear or through a specially designed flap or lid system. Alternatively, a tilting or rail and roller mechanism can be integrated for ergonomic filling. The street side is only opened temporarily for the waste transport service. Access can be provided through an automatically controlled blind, a flap, or a pivoting or sliding door. The waste transport service can remove the bins, empty them, and return them safely. Safety and hygiene measures are integrated. The waste bins / containers are located in a closed structure and are protected from the elements, animals, or unauthorized use. The modularity and adaptability of the system according to the invention are ensured. The waste gate can be designed for one or more waste bins / containers (up to 1,100 liters). The structure can be made of various materials, such as plastic, metal, or concrete. It can be installed as a freestanding element, as part of a fence, screen, or integrated into a wall. Automated control systems are provided to optimize use. An app or sensor control enables the gate to be programmed to open at the scheduled collection time. Solar modules can be used to power the automated systems. Light and motion sensors can provide greater convenience and security.
[0016] Depending on the structural conditions and user requirements, the waste lock can be designed in various technical versions: 1. Swing lock 2. Direct lock 3. Flap lock 4. Rail and roller lock 5. Cylinder lock
[0017] The above-mentioned embodiments 1 to 5 are explained below with reference to the attached drawings. Fig. 1 shows a swing lock as an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 shows the swing lock after Fig. 1 in cross section. Fig. 3 shows the swing lock after Fig. 1 with frame. Fig. 4 shows the swing lock after Fig. 1 as a modular plug-in system. Fig. 5 shows a direct lock as an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 6 shows a flap lock as an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 7 shows a cylinder lock as an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 8 shows a rail and roller lock as an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 9 shows a locking mechanism as an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 10 shows a further illustration of the locking mechanism from Fig. 9. Fig. 11 to Fig. 16 show the principle of filling and emptying the waste containers.
[0018] The swing lock in Fig. 1 - 4 is a variant of the waste lock equipped with a special rocking mechanism, thus providing an ergonomic and automated waste disposal system. The design is based on a stable rectangular spacer frame 1 that surrounds the entire lock and ensures robust fixation. This frame contains a lower tray with a lowered section for the L-shaped platform 3, which serves as a receiving area for the waste bins and is installed in a lowered position 18 to enable a safe and controlled rocking motion.
[0019] The waste bins 28 are positioned within the swing gate with handles facing the street 6, which is protected by a shutter 10. This shutter can be opened manually or automatically to allow access for the waste transport service. On the opposite side, there is an opening to the household 7, through which the user can easily fill the waste bins. The entire gate is securely anchored to a concrete base 9 via mounting brackets 8, ensuring a stable installation.
[0020] A central element of the swing gate is the automated waste bin lid opener "Kolibri" 11, which is located above each waste bin. This mechanism consists of a specially developed locking wedge 31 in Fig. 9, a tension spring 34, and a ball with a tension spring 35, which is integrated into the telescopic tube system 32 and allows manual height adjustment by engaging pre-drilled holes. This mechanism allows for direct engagement with the waste bin lid. When the lock is opened for filling, the waste bin lid opens automatically, eliminating the need for additional manual lifting.
[0021] The waste bins rest on a movable L-shaped platform 13, which is guided by a cross brace 16 as a pivot. This platform can swing forward at a defined angle toward the household side 7 to enable ergonomic waste disposal. To provide a stable support surface for the waste bins, the L-shaped platform 13 is equipped with an L-shaped platform cover plate 14. This cover plate ensures secure positioning of the waste bins and serves as a visual barrier and design element on the household side.
[0022] An ergonomic handle 23 is integrated into the upper edge of the L-shaped platform cover design plate 14. This handle allows the user to move the platform with minimal effort and tilt the waste bins to the desired angle for filling.
[0023] Further technical features of the swing gate include the special recesses facing the street 18. This design features an offset center of gravity: the garbage bins are not positioned centrally, but with a slightly shifted center of gravity toward the street edge. This prevents uncontrolled tipping toward the household side. Additionally, the swing gate features an upper cavity for technology 26, which provides space for sensors, control elements, or motorized drives. This cavity enables automated control of the blinds 10 as well as space for the automated "Kolibri" garbage bin lid opener 11 and can optionally be expanded with digital systems to further optimize waste disposal.
[0024] The technical functionality of the swing lock is divided into the following steps: 1. Filling the waste bins: The user opens the household opening 7 and moves the waste bins into a tilted position via the L-shaped platform 13. The ergonomic handle 23 facilitates operation. 2. Automatic lid opening: The automated “Kolibri” 11 waste bin lid opener automatically lifts the waste bin lid as soon as the platform is rocked forward. 3. Stabilization in the storage position: After filling, the platform returns to its original position. The special recesses facing Street 18 ensure secure support and prevent the waste bins from tipping uncontrollably. 4. Emptying by the waste transport service: The waste transport service opens the shutter 10 at the opening to Street 6 and removes the waste bins. 5. After emptying, the waste bins are returned safely and properly to their original position. 6. Blind closes automatically.
[0025] The direct lock in Fig. 5 is a multifunctional version of the waste lock, serving as a standalone unit for automated, hygienic, space-saving, and safe waste disposal. It can also be modularly expanded with the flap lock and cylinder lock, allowing for the integration of additional functions such as automatic lid opening or a vertical door-rail system for optimized ergonomics.
[0026] The lock consists of a housing 2 that accommodates and protects the waste bins. The base plate with a drainage system 5 ensures hygienic storage of the waste bins by allowing water and liquids to drain away. On the street side, there is an opening 6 to the street, secured by a blind 10, allowing access exclusively by the waste transport service. The opening 7 to the household side allows users to fill the waste bins.
[0027] For stable anchoring of the lock, fastening tabs 8 are provided, which securely connect the entire housing 2 to the concrete base 9. The guide and stabilization rails 12 ensure that the waste bins are precisely returned after emptying and correctly aligned in the lock.
[0028] A central element is the crossbeam 17, which serves as a cavity for the blind mechanism 10 and an optional solar cell. It also functions as a privacy screen, complementing the height of the side walls to conceal the trash can area from the streetscape. The rear wall 27 is lowered compared to the front, allowing discreet waste insertion without allowing passersby or neighbors to directly observe the process.
[0029] The technical functioning of the direct lock ( Fig. 5) is divided into the following steps: 1. Positioning of the waste bins: The waste bins are placed in the direct lock with handles facing the street and stand on the base plate with drainage system 5. The guide and stabilization rails 12 ensure precise positioning. 2. Filling by the user: The open access from the household side 7 allows the user to put his waste directly into the waste bin. The cross-beam 17 protects the process from outside views. 3. Security through the blinds: Blind 10 remains closed and protects the waste bins from the weather and unauthorized access. 4. Emptying by the waste transport service: On the collection date, the shutter 10 at the opening to Street 6 is automatically opened by the waste transport service. The waste bins are removed and emptied by the waste transport service. 5. Return of waste bins: The waste bins are placed back in the direct lock. The guide and stabilization rails 12 ensure correct alignment. 6. Closing the lock: The blind 10 is closed automatically.
[0030] The direct lock thus offers an automated, discreet, secure and modularly expandable solution for waste disposal.
[0031] The flap lock is a modular extension of the direct lock 2, which features automated and hygienic waste disposal through the integration of an upper cover with flaps 24. This cover is mounted directly onto the housing of the direct lock 2 and expands the system with an additional waste disposal function. The design allows waste bins to be stored in a fixed position on the base plate with drainage system 5 along the guide and stabilization rails 12 within the lock, with the handles of the waste bins facing the street side 6. This allows the waste transport service to easily remove the bins and return them after emptying.
[0032] The flap lock has an opening to Street 6, which is secured by a shutter 10. This shutter protects the waste bins from environmental influences and unauthorized access and can only be opened automatically by the waste transport service.
[0033] A crucial component of the flap lock is the upper cover with flaps 24. These flaps are integrated into the system to make it easier for users to insert waste without having to manually open the waste bin lid. A locking mechanism 18 is attached to the inside of each flap, which automatically locks into the waste bin lid as soon as the waste bin is positioned in the lock. This automated waste bin lid opener "Kolibri" 11 consists of a telescopic tube system 32, a locking wedge 31, and a tension spring 34, which ensure a reliable connection between the flap and the waste bin lid. When the user opens the flap 24, the waste bin lid is automatically raised, requiring no additional manual intervention. The user can insert the waste without coming into direct contact with the waste bin or its lid.As soon as the flap is closed again, the trash can lid closes synchronously.
[0034] The waste disposal service automatically opens the shutter 10 from the street side 6. When the waste bin is pulled out, the locking mechanism 18 is automatically released, allowing the bin lid to move freely. After emptying, the waste bin is returned to the lock, where the mechanism automatically re-engages itself in the lid.
[0035] For structural stability, the flap lock is equipped with guide and stabilization rails 12, which hold the waste bins in a precise position and ensure that they are returned exactly after emptying.
[0036] The technical functioning of the flap lock is divided into the following steps: 1. Filling of waste bins by the user: The user opens the flaps on the top cover 24. The automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 ensures that the waste bin lid opens synchronously with the flap. The user can hygienically throw in the waste without coming into contact with the lid. After the waste has been inserted, the flap is closed again, which causes the waste bin lid to close synchronously. 2. Storage of waste bins: The waste bins are in a stable position within the housing of the direct lock 2. The guide and stabilization rails 12 ensure precise alignment of the bins for the exact engagement of the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 into the waste bin lid. Blind 10 remains closed to protect the waste bins from external influences. 3. Emptying of waste bins by the waste transport service: The waste transport service automatically opens the blind 10 at the opening to Street 6. The waste bins are removed and the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 automatically detaches from the waste bin lid. After emptying, the waste bins are returned to the lock. The automated trash can lid opener “Kolibri” 11 automatically re-engages and connects to the lid. 4. Closing the lock: As soon as the waste bins are returned, blind 10 is closed.
[0037] The rail and roller lock is based on the basic design of the swing lock, but replaces the tilting platform with a platform 15 mounted on rollers or rails below the sidewalk level. This variant offers a horizontal movement function, where the waste bins can be moved out to the household side 7 on a stable L-shaped platform mounted on rails when required.
[0038] To prevent uncontrolled movement of the rail-mounted L-platform 15, the lock has a braking system 29. Furthermore, the lock has an automatic shutter 10 to secure access from the road side 6.
[0039] Another special feature is the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri”, which is activated automatically when the lock is opened and enables hygienic waste disposal without direct contact with the waste bin.
[0040] The rail and roller lock ( Fig. 8) consists of a sturdy rectangular spacer frame 1 that supports the entire structure and ensures a solid, durable installation. The waste bins are placed on the rail-mounted L-shaped platform 15 and are positioned with their handles facing the street side 6 to allow easy removal by the waste disposal service.
[0041] Access to the lock is via two openings: the opening facing the street 6, protected by a blind 10, and the opening facing the household side 7, which allows users to fill the waste bins. To ensure stable anchoring of the entire lock, fastening lugs 8 are provided, connecting the structure to a concrete base 9 and ensuring permanent fixation.
[0042] A central element of the lock is the automated "Kolibri" waste bin lid opener, located above each waste bin 28. When the rail-mounted L-shaped platform 15 is pulled out, the automated "Kolibri" waste bin lid opener engages, automatically opening the waste bin lid 28. The movement of the platform is controlled by a braking system 29, which is attached to the rails or roller guides 4 and prevents the platform from rolling uncontrollably.
[0043] The platform is operated via an ergonomic handle 23, which is located on the upper edge of the rail-mounted L-platform 15.
[0044] The technical functionality of the rail and roller lock is divided into the following steps: 1. Positioning of the waste bins: The waste bins 28 are placed on the rail-mounted L-platform 15 with handles facing Street 6. The rail-mounted L-platform 15 moves into the trough with rail-guided slots 4 and is held stably in its position. The guide and stabilization rails 12 ensure precise alignment of the bins for the exact locking of the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” into the waste bin lid. 2. Filling by the user: Using the ergonomic handle 23, the user pulls the rail-mounted L-platform 15 out of the lock to the household side. The automated trash can lid opener “Kolibri” locks into the trash can lid, opening and closing it automatically. The user can now throw in the garbage. After filling, the L-platform 15 is pushed back into the rail-guided slot 4. 3. Emptying by the waste transport service: The waste transport service automatically opens shutter 10 at the opening to Street 6. The 28 waste bins are pulled out of the lock, whereby the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” is automatically released. The garbage bins are emptied. 5. Return of waste bins: After emptying, the waste bins 28 are placed back on the rail-mounted L-platforms 15 with handles facing Street 6. The guide and stabilization rails 12 ensure precise alignment of the bins for the exact engagement of the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 into the waste bin lid. 6. Closing the lock: The blind 10 is closed automatically.
[0045] The cylinder lock is a modular extension of the direct lock 2 and is based on the same basic design, but with a semi-cylindrical cover 25, enabling ergonomic, modern, and weather-protected waste disposal. This design optimizes waste bin handling through a vertical door-rail system 30, allowing controlled and user-friendly opening of the lock. The closed design with a semi-cylindrical cover 25 not only improves waste disposal functionally but also aesthetically, providing a futuristic, space-saving, and weather-protected solution.
[0046] The waste bins are oriented with their handles facing the street (6), ensuring easy removal by the waste transport service. The lock has an opening facing the street (6), which is secured by a shutter (10) and can only be opened by the waste transport service. The waste bins remain in a stable position within the cylinder lock throughout their use.
[0047] A key feature of the cylinder lock is the semi-cylindrical cover 25, which opens vertically upwards and downwards, utilizing an integrated vertical door-rail system 30. This mechanism ensures easy and controlled opening by guiding the vertical doors along a rail system. On the inside of the semi-cylindrical cover 25 are automated "Kolibri" 11 waste bin lid openers, which automatically engage the waste bin lids as soon as the bins are placed in the lock. Each waste bin 28 has its own automated "Kolibri" 11 waste bin lid opener.
[0048] When the semi-cylindrical cover 25 is opened, the garbage can lids are automatically raised by the automated "Kolibri" 11 garbage can lid opener. After the waste is deposited, the cover 25 closes again, causing the garbage can lid to automatically lower.
[0049] The guide and stabilization rails 12 ensure precise alignment of the bins for the exact engagement of the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 into the waste bin lid.
[0050] The technical functionality of the cylinder lock is divided into the following steps: 1. Filling of waste bins by the user: The user opens the semi-cylindrical cover 25 through the vertical door rail system 30. The automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 ensures that the waste bin lids open and close synchronously with the vertical door-rail system 30. The user can hygienically throw in the waste without having to manually lift the waste bin lid. 2. Storage of waste bins: The waste bins remain safely positioned in the base structure of Direct Lock 2. The guide and stabilization rails 12 ensure precise alignment of the bins for the exact engagement of the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 into the waste bin lid. 3. Emptying of waste bins by the waste transport service: The waste transport service automatically opens shutter 10 at the opening to Street 6. The waste bins are removed and the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 automatically detaches from the waste bin lid. After emptying, the waste bins are placed back into the lock, where the automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” 11 locks itself into the waste bin lid again. 4. Closing the lock: As soon as the waste bins are returned, the blind 10 closes automatically.
[0051] The following describes an automated waste bin lid opener in connection with the “Kolibri” design.
[0052] The waste lock in the representation of the Fig. 1-4 and Fig. 6-8 can optionally be equipped with an automated waste bin lid opener “Kolibri” to facilitate handling, improve hygiene and further automate operation.
[0053] The hummingbird mechanism consists of: a locking wedge 31 in the form of a mechanism which engages with the lid or the lid handle of the waste bin and moves the waste bin lid synchronously with the opening of the flaps; a tension spring 34, with a spring which on the one hand holds the locking wedge 31 in its position, on the other hand allows a dynamic movement, ensures an even distribution of force and returns the locking wedge to the starting position; a telescopic tube system 32, in the form of a manually height-adjustable system that can be adapted to different waste bin sizes. a ball with tension spring 35, so that a mechanism is created which is integrated into the telescopic tube system 32 and enables manual height fixing by snapping into pre-made holes. A mounting within the lock 33, which forms a bracket that fixes the mechanism directly to the lock's opening flaps, allowing it to move synchronously with the flaps. Alternatively, "Kolibri" can be equipped with a locking wedge coupled to a spring-loaded mechanism.
[0054] As soon as the waste bin 28 is placed in the lock, the locking wedge 31 automatically engages the lid handle of the waste bin. When the waste bin is pulled out, the mechanism is released again by the tension spring 34, allowing the lid to close automatically and the waste bin to be easily removed.
[0055] The Kolibri unit can be used for all variants of the waste lock (flap lock, cylinder lock, swing lock and rail and roller lock) to further optimize operation.
[0056] Fig. 11 to Fig. 16 show the principle of filling and emptying the waste containers in the waste container system according to the invention. Fig. 11 shows a waste generator 38 with waste 39 coming from the household side 7 on its way to the waste container. In Fig. 12, the waste producer 38 loads the waste 39 into the waste container.
