AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing methods for water collection from saltwater using solar radiation are inefficient in converting water vapor into condensed water due to insufficient temperature regulation and collection mechanisms.

Method used

A water tank design with a south-facing large surface area, a cooling system powered by photovoltaics or solar thermal energy to regulate the back wall temperature, and a trough to collect condensed water, enhancing the condensation process.

Benefits of technology

Enhances the conversion of water vapor into condensed water by regulating temperature and improving collection efficiency using a photovoltaic or solar thermal cooling system and a trough mechanism.

Abstract

Container for the distillation of salt water, characterized by having a large front and back wall and a narrow shape. It also has a sloping roof that rises from the front to the back and a water channel on the inside of the back wall, through which the distilled water is directed to the outside, into another container and collected. An additional solar or photovoltaic system can be mounted on the sloping roof, which can be used to operate a cooling system at the back of the container in order to optimize the distillation process. In addition, the container is painted black to make full use of the sun's energy. The container is made of saltwater and corrosion-resistant stainless steel, and the material thickness varies between 1mm and 30mm, depending on the size.

Description

[0001] The water tank is filled with salt water up to just below the trough. Since the tank's large surface area faces south, the water condenses due to solar radiation. The water vapor rises to the gable and forms a droplet. This droplet then runs down the vertical back wall due to gravity. To enhance this effect, the temperature of the back wall is regulated by a cooling system powered by photovoltaics or solar thermal energy. The condensed water running down the back wall is collected in the trough and channeled from the tank into a separate water storage tank.
