Abstract
Description
AREA
[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to a portable biomedical monitoring device for real-time detection of fever and chills in patients. GENERAL STATE OF THE ART
[0002] Conventional biomedical monitoring systems are commonly used to measure physiological parameters such as body temperature, vibration, heart rate, and respiration in hospitals and clinical settings. Traditional devices include contact thermometers, infrared scanners, and vibration sensors, which often require manual operation, stationary infrastructure, or trained personnel. While portable and mobile devices exist, many lack autonomous operation or the ability to detect fever and chills simultaneously in real time. Existing systems may also rely on external computer interfaces or continuous monitoring, limiting their effectiveness in dynamic environments. Therefore, there remains a need for a compact, portable, and autonomous biomedical monitoring device that continuously detects fever and chills and provides immediate alerts without human intervention. SUMMARY
[0003] The subject matter of the present invention is defined in the claims. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES Fig. Figure 1 illustrates a portable biomedical monitoring device for real-time detection of fever and chills in patients. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0004] In biomedical instrumentation, existing temperature and vibration monitoring systems are often bulky, manually operated, or dependent on stationary infrastructure. There is a lack of compact, portable, and autonomous devices capable of continuously detecting fever and chills in real time and providing immediate alerts in diverse environments without human intervention.
[0005] The disclosure relates to a portable biomedical monitoring device configured for the real-time detection of fever and chills in a patient. The device integrates a temperature sensor for measuring body temperature and a vibration sensor for detecting chills or weakness, both of which are operationally connected to a comparator circuit. The comparator circuit continuously evaluates the detected signals against predefined thresholds and outputs a digital logic signal when abnormal conditions are detected. If the threshold is exceeded, an alarm unit is automatically triggered, generating audible, visual, or wireless warning signals, thus ensuring immediate notification of patients, caregivers, or medical personnel. The temperature sensor can be implemented using a thermistor or a semiconductor-based sensor element, while the vibration sensor can use a piezoelectric or accelerometer-based sensor element. The device operates on a low-voltage power supply between 3.3 V and 5 V, ensuring energy-efficient and safe operation. Lightweight and portable, the device can be worn on the body. It enables continuous monitoring in hospitals, quarantine centers, offices, schools, and industrial environments. Autonomous operation eliminates the need for manual monitoring, reducing the workload of healthcare workers and allowing for a rapid medical response. The device can also support group monitoring and remote notification via wireless communication, enabling the simultaneous monitoring of multiple individuals.Overall, the invention represents a simple, cost-effective and scalable solution for the continuous monitoring of patients' health status.
[0006] Fig.Figure 1 illustrates a basic block diagram of the portable biomedical monitoring device 100, depicting the integration of its main functional components. The device 100 includes a temperature sensor 102 for measuring body temperature and a vibration sensor 104 for detecting trembling or states of weakness. Both sensors are connected to a comparator circuit 106, which processes the input signals and compares them with predefined thresholds. If either signal exceeds the threshold, the comparator circuit 106 outputs a digital logic signal that activates the alarm unit 108, thus providing immediate notification. The system is powered by a low-voltage power supply 110 with 3.3 V to 5 V, ensuring safe and energy-efficient operation. The illustration shows the closed feedback arrangement of sensors, comparator and alarm unit and clarifies the autonomous functionality of the device 100 for real-time monitoring of fever and chills without human intervention.
[0007] Although the implementations of the portable biomedical monitoring device for real-time detection of fever and chills have been described with respect to certain structural features and functional components, it should be noted that the attached claims are not limited to the disclosed specific embodiments. Rather, the described features and configurations are provided as illustrative examples of the invention, and various modifications, substitutions, or equivalents may be used without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.
