Systems and methods for minimizing or eliminating transient non-glucose related signal noise due to non-glucose rate limiting phenomenon such as ischemia, pH changes, temperatures changes, and the like. The system monitors a data stream from a glucose sensor and detects signal artifacts that have higher amplitude than electronic or diffusion-related system noise. The system replaces some or the entire data stream continually or intermittently including signal estimation methods that particularly address transient signal artifacts. The system is also capable of detecting the severity of the signal artifacts and selectively applying one or more signal estimation algorithm factors responsive to the severity of the signal artifacts, which includes selectively applying distinct sets of parameters to a signal estimation algorithm or selectively applying distinct signal estimation algorithms.

One process includes fanning channels in the surface of a substrate and disposing a conductive material in the channels to form an electrode. The conductive material can also be formed on the substrate by other impact and non-impact methods. A temperature-indicating element of an electrosurgical device comprises an indicator composition adapted to undergo a change in appearance in response to a pre-defined temperature range. The change in appearance of the temperature-indicating element indicates to the operator of the device a temperature condition at the working end of the device.

A vital-signs patch for a patient monitoring system is disclosed. The patch consists of a housing that is configured to be worn on the skin of a patient. The housing contains a radio, one or more sensor interfaces, a processor, and a battery. The processor can selectably turn portions of the processor off and on and selectably turn power off and on to at least a portion of the sensor interfaces and radio. The processor includes a timer that, each time the timer times out, will turn all the parts of the processor on and start a new timing period. When the processor receives a signal, the processor will turn off power to at least a portion of the processor and at least a portion of the sensor interfaces.

Systems, methods, apparatus and devices are described for monitoring a property of an object or an individual, using a conformal sensor device that substantially conforms to contours of a portion of a surface of the object or the individual. The measurement includes data indicative of a property of a temperature of the portion of the surface and the degree of the conformal contact. An analysis engine is used to analyze the data and to generate at least one parameter indicative of the property of the temperature. Based on a comparison of the at least one parameter to a preset threshold, at least one alert can be issued and/or a command can be transmitted to regulate an environmental condition. The at least one alert can be indicative of a potential risk of harm to the object or individual.

This invention generally relates to an injector for painlessly piercing a region of a patient's skin. The injector comprises (a) piercing mechanism, comprises: (i) at least one reciprocating needle; said at least one needle is characterized by diameter K; said needle penetrates to depth D in said skin; said depth D is characterized by an initial temperature T; (ii) at least one container having a medicament to be delivered to said patient. The injector further comprises (b) cooling mechanism, comprises at least one attachable cooling means, especially a Peltier Cooled Cold Plate (PCCP), in connection with a radiator and sufficient DC power supply; said PCCP is characterized by an effective surface area S; said effective surface S is optimized such that said pain caused by said piercing is eliminated; said PCCP is characterized by temperature T_iPCCP; said PCCP adapted for cooling a portion of said skin prior to and/or during and/or after piercing thereof by said piercing mechanism such that the cooling is obtained at said depth D; said depth D is cooled from said initial temperature T to a final temperature T_D(ΔT) in a period of time t (dt) by said PCCP; said final temperature T_D Of said depth D is higher than about 0 and lower than about 13 degrees C.; said ΔT/dt is optimized such that said pain caused to said patient is eliminated. The invention relates to a puncturing system for generating a puncture wound for obtaining a sample of a body fluid, comprising a press-on part to be pressed onto a body part in which a puncture wound is to be generated, a triggering means, by the actuation of which a user can trigger a puncturing motion of a puncturing element after the press-on part is pressed on, and a testing facility for determining at least one test parameter on which a sample-obtaining probability depends. A securing facility is also provided that, in a locked state, locks the triggering means such that no puncturing motion can be triggered, and, in a triggering state, releases the triggering means such that a puncturing motion can be triggered by actuation thereof, whereby the securing facility is transitioned from the locked state to the triggering state by the testing facility when the test parameter determined by the testing facility meets defined minimum requirements. A signaling facility is also provided for signaling a transition of the securing facility to the triggering state and/or for signaling that the securing facility is in the triggering state. The invention also relates to a method for preparing a puncturing system for generating a puncture wound.

The minimum painless lancing device using an Er:YAG laser includes an Er:YAG laser beam-generating section in which the laser beam is generated to punch skin and radiated in a single direction; an adapter installed at the front end of the Er:YAG laser beam-generating section so that the laser beam can be locally concentrated on a skin punch portion; a skin adhesion cap installed at the front end of the adapter so that it can be easily detached, and can reduce the contamination of the Er:YAG laser beam-generating section, which is produced at the time of the lancing, and the danger due to the reuse of it among the patients of lancing; and a case to accommodate the Er:YAG laser beam-generating section and the adapter therein.

A system and method for quickly detaching an implant and for locating the detachment zone of a detachable implant. A sensor determines a sudden change in the local environment as the sensor passes from within a microcatheter to being exposed to the vasculature. The sensor may be a temperature sensor, ultrasonic sensor, pressure sensor or the like. If the detachable implant assembly uses a heater coil to detach the implant, the heater coil may be used as a sensor. Additionally, the implant itself may be used as a sensor if a change in electrical resistance is detectable as the implant exits the microcatheter and changes shape.

Implantable in vivo sensors used to monitor physical, chemical or electrical parameters within a body. The in vivo sensors are integral with an implantable medical device and are responsive to externally or internally applied energy. Upon application of energy, the sensors undergo a phase change in at least part of the material of the device which is then detected external to the body by conventional techniques such as radiography, ultrasound imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, radio frequency imaging or the like. A wearable sensor and method for providing a wearable sensor are disclosed. In a first aspect, the wearable sensor comprises at least one power source and a first module coupled to the at least one power source. The first module includes a first outer shell and a first printed circuit board (PCB) within the first outer shell. The wearable sensor further comprises a second module coupled to the first module. The second module includes a second outer shell and a second PCB within the second outer shell. One of the first and second modules is disposable and the other of the first and second modules is reusable.

A lancing kit includes a lancing device and a lancing device cap. The cap for the lancing device includes a cap body and at least one sensor. In addition, the cap body includes a distal end with a target site contact surface, a proximal end for attachment to a lancing device and an opening through the cap body from the distal end to the proximal end. Furthermore, at least a portion of the target site contact surface is moveable between a first position and a second position upon application of a predetermined pressure to that portion of the distal end contact surface, and the sensor is configured to detect movement of the portion of the distal end contact surface into the second position and communicate such detection to the lancing device.
