AI Technical Summary
Motor vehicles face challenges in accommodating larger reducing agent tanks due to limited installation space, which is exacerbated by stricter exhaust emission regulations, and reducing the fuel tank size affects the vehicle's range.
The reducing agent tank is positioned between the work platform and the vehicle frame, with the work platform vertically offset to create additional space, allowing for a larger tank volume without occupying space on the vehicle frame, and is supported elastically to decouple the tank from the vehicle's movement.
This configuration optimizes the use of space, enabling a significant increase in reducing agent volume while maintaining the vehicle's usability and range by utilizing otherwise unused space without compromising the structural integrity or adding load to the tank.
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a motor vehicle with a tank, preferably a reducing agent tank.
[0002] Motor vehicles, such as trucks, may have an internal combustion engine whose exhaust gases can be treated in an exhaust aftertreatment device before being discharged from the vehicle's exhaust. The exhaust aftertreatment may, for example, comprise a system consisting of an oxidation catalyst and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst. To reduce nitrogen oxides, a reducing agent, such as an aqueous urea solution, can be injected into the exhaust gas. The reducing agent can be carried in separate tanks permanently mounted on the vehicle. The aim is to maintain a ratio of at least 1:10 between fuel volume and reducing agent volume. More stringent exhaust emission regulations (e.g., Euro 6d, 6e, 7) may require the carriage of larger quantities of reducing agent. However, the available installation space for the reducing agent tank may be limited and may not readily allow for expansion depending on the size and arrangement of other components of the vehicle. One solution is to reduce the size of the fuel tank to create space for an enlarged reducing agent tank. However, this will compromise the vehicle's range.
[0003] Another solution may be to reposition the reducing agent tank, whereby the repositioning allows an increased volume for the reducing agent tank.
[0004] DE 10 2014 017 732 A1 discloses a tractor having a driver's cab and two side wind deflectors that protrude rearward relative to the rear wall of the cab. The tractor is characterized by the fact that at least one fluid tank for holding a fluid is arranged between the wind deflectors.
[0005] Document DE 10 2016 012 630 A1 discloses a towing vehicle comprising a frame and a driver's cab arranged on the frame. At least one container for air, gas, or liquid is arranged on the top side of the frame between the rear wall of the driver's cab and the coupling device. The container is designed to extend below a front underside of the coupled trailer.
[0006] Document DE 10 2011 103 989 A1 discloses an arrangement of a fuel tank on a motor vehicle with means for jointly fastening the fuel tank with other vehicle components to a vehicle chassis or chassis frame. The fuel tank is integrated into a central fuel supply unit and is secured to the vehicle chassis or chassis frame by means of the fastening means.
[0007] Document DE 295 09 092 U1 discloses an attachment device for tractor units, wherein an attachable and detachable work platform is provided behind the driver's cab, which extends essentially in the area between the rear of the driver's cab and the fifth wheel coupling, and which consists of an attachment frame which can be anchored at least indirectly to the vehicle frame of the tractor unit, on which attachment frame a walkable cover is at least indirectly anchored.
[0008] Document US 2009 / 250970 A1 discloses a cab for a towing vehicle, with side panels that form rearward extensions of the cab's side walls and are pivotable to allow access to the chassis compartment behind the cab. A step arrangement is also attached to the inside of one side panel.
[0009] Document US 5 054 799 A discloses an assembly for attaching a cab skirt over the fuel tank area of a truck. The skirt is attached to a cab step at the front end of the fuel tank and to a step assembly at the rear end of the fuel tank.
[0010] Document US 6,340,191 B1 discloses a truck storage box with an access door, with an aerodynamic body panel mounted on the access door. The storage box can be attached to the chassis between the front and rear axles of the truck. The access door can further include one or more steps that can be used by a driver to enter and exit the cab.
[0011] The invention is based on the object of providing a motor vehicle with an alternative and / or improved arrangement and configuration of a tank, preferably a reducing agent tank.
[0012] The problem is solved by the features of independent claim 1. Advantageous further developments are specified in the dependent claims and the description.
[0013] The invention provides a motor vehicle, preferably a commercial vehicle, particularly preferably a truck (e.g., a semitrailer tractor or trailer tractor). The motor vehicle has a vehicle frame (e.g., designed as a ladder frame) and a driver's cab (or a driver's cabin). The motor vehicle has a (e.g., walkable) work platform arranged at the rear of the driver's cab above the vehicle frame. The motor vehicle has a tank, preferably a reducing agent tank, arranged (e.g., at least partially or substantially completely) between the work platform and the vehicle frame, particularly with respect to a vertical direction.
[0014] The tank can advantageously be designed as a reducing agent tank for storing reducing agent (e.g., aqueous urea solution) for an exhaust gas aftertreatment device. Conventionally, there is no installation space between the work platform and the vehicle frame, as the work platform is located directly above the vehicle frame. Vertically offsetting the work platform upwards (e.g., by approximately 10 cm), thus creating additional installation space between the work platform and the vehicle frame, can enable a relatively large volume for the tank. With a work platform size of approximately 40 cm x 160 cm, for example, additional installation space can be created for an approximately 65-liter tank. By utilizing this additional installation space under the work platform, no additional installation space is required for the tank, e.g., on the side of the frame, which in turn can be used for a fuel tank or other necessary or optional components. The usability of the vehicle is thus further optimized.
[0015] In one embodiment, the tank is arranged at the rear of the cab and / or above the vehicle frame.
[0016] The tank may be suitably flattened in shape and / or horizontally oriented.
[0017] In a further embodiment, the tank is arranged (e.g. at least partially or substantially completely) between a bottom side of the work platform and a top side of the vehicle frame, in particular with respect to a vertical direction.
[0018] For practical purposes, the tank and / or the work platform can be located directly behind the driver’s cab.
[0019] For example, the tank and / or the work platform can be located approximately at wheel height of the vehicle.
[0020] The tank is elastically supported on the vehicle frame or rests elastically on the vehicle frame, preferably by means of rubber buffers. The elastic mounting can allow an inert liquid in the tank to be at least partially decoupled from any movement of the vehicle frame.
[0021] In one embodiment, the tank is attached (e.g. screwed and / or plugged) to the work platform, preferably from below and / or laterally to a step of the work platform, and / or to the vehicle frame, preferably from above.
[0022] In a further embodiment, a (e.g. cuboid) shape of the tank is adapted to a (e.g. rectangular) shape of the work platform.
[0023] In a further embodiment, the work platform covers the tank, preferably largely (e.g., more than 50%), substantially (e.g., at least 80% or 90%), or completely. This allows the tank to be protected from the work platform and allows for the largest possible width and / or length (volume) of the tank.
[0024] In one design variant, the work platform is supported on the vehicle frame, preferably directly, by means of at least one screw dome and / or without interposing a hollow space in the tank. This can, for example, prevent the corresponding load from being applied to the tank when walking on the work platform. The tank therefore does not need to be constructed so elaborately to withstand such loads.
[0025] The tank has at least one recess, preferably a through hole or a dome section, through which the work platform is supported on the vehicle frame, e.g., by means of at least one screw dome in the recess.
[0026] In one embodiment, the tank has a volume in a range between 40 l and 100 l, preferably between 50 l and 90 l, particularly preferably between 60 l and 80 l. Alternatively or additionally, the tank has a height in a range between 5 cm and 20 cm, preferably between 7 cm and 15 cm, particularly preferably around 10 cm, in a section between the work platform and the vehicle frame. This allows sufficient volume to be provided for the reducing agent. On the other hand, the vertical displacement of the work platform is not essential.
[0027] In a further embodiment, the work platform has a rectangular shape in the west (e.g. width (40 cm ± 10 cm) * length (160 cm ± 40 cm)), is walkable and / or is horizontally oriented.
[0028] The work platform can be conveniently reached using a stepladder mounted on the work platform.
[0029] In one embodiment, the tank is arranged (e.g., only) centrally (e.g., behind the driver's cab) with respect to a transverse direction of the motor vehicle. Alternatively, the tank can be arranged, for example, centrally and externally (e.g., behind the driver's cab) with respect to a transverse direction of the motor vehicle.
[0030] In a further embodiment, the tank protrudes beyond the work platform on a side of the tank facing the driver's cab. The protruding area can, for example, increase the volume of the tank. For example, the protruding area can also be widened (e.g., vertically upwards) to create space for a pump in the tank. Alternatively or additionally, the tank can be essentially flush with the work platform, for example, opposite to the forward direction of travel of the motor vehicle.
[0031] In one embodiment, the tank can be substantially flush with the vehicle frame and / or the work platform on at least one side with respect to a transverse direction of the motor vehicle. This can prevent or at least reduce heat transfer from an exhaust aftertreatment device of the motor vehicle, which may be located on this side of the vehicle frame and is harmful to the fluid in the tank.
[0032] In one design variant, the tank protrudes beyond the vehicle frame on at least one side in a transverse direction of the vehicle. This allows, for example, the tank's volume to be increased.
[0033] In one embodiment, a (e.g., cuboid-shaped) region of the tank extends upwards in a vertical direction beyond the work platform, preferably on a side of the tank or work platform facing the driver's cab. Alternatively or additionally, a region of the tank can extend downwards in a vertical direction beyond an upper side of the vehicle frame, preferably between longitudinal members of the vehicle frame (e.g., on one side along one longitudinal member or on both sides along both longitudinal members).
[0034] In a further development, a pump is at least partially incorporated in the area of the tank.
[0035] In one embodiment, the tank has an L-shaped cross-section (e.g., in a vertical sectional plane parallel to a longitudinal axis of the motor vehicle), with the short leg of the L-shape preferably facing the driver's cab and / or the long leg of the L-shape being arranged between the work platform and the vehicle frame. The L-shaped cross-section can enable the most optimal use of the installation space to create a large tank volume.
[0036] In a further embodiment, the motor vehicle further comprises at least one, preferably electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic, connection (e.g., a supply connection), which is preferably located at the rear of the driver's cab and / or accessible via the work platform. The at least one connection can be provided, for example, on the rear wall of the driver's cab and / or, for example, on a front area of the semitrailer or trailer.
[0037] In a further embodiment, the motor vehicle further comprises an exhaust gas aftertreatment device, preferably comprising an SCR exhaust gas aftertreatment device, wherein the tank is in fluid communication with the exhaust gas aftertreatment device, preferably for supplying reducing agent.
[0038] It is possible that thermal insulation, for example heat insulation, is arranged between the tank and the exhaust gas aftertreatment device.
[0039] The above-described preferred embodiments and features of the invention can be combined with one another as desired. Further details and advantages of the invention are described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. They show: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a schematically illustrated motor vehicle according to an embodiment of the present disclosure; Figure 2 is an enlarged view of a section of Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a side view of the exemplary motor vehicle; Figure 4 shows a rear view of the exemplary motor vehicle; Figure 5 shows a perspective view of a schematically illustrated motor vehicle according to a further embodiment of the present disclosure; Figure 6 shows an enlarged view of a section of Figure 5 ; Figure 7 shows a side view of the further exemplary motor vehicle; and Figure 8 shows a rear view of the further exemplary motor vehicle.
[0040] The embodiments shown in the figures correspond at least partially, so that similar or identical parts are provided with the same reference numerals and for their explanation reference is also made to the description of the other embodiments or figures in order to avoid repetition.
[0041] The Figures 1 to 4show a motor vehicle 10. The motor vehicle 10 is designed as a commercial vehicle, in particular a truck. The truck can, for example, be designed as a tractor unit. For example, a guide pin (king pin) of a semi-trailer can be coupled to a fifth wheel plate (not shown) of the tractor unit. The truck can, for example, also be designed as a trailer tractor. The trailer tractor can have a trailer coupling to which a trailer can be coupled. It is understood that the truck shown and described is purely exemplary. The techniques disclosed herein can also be applicable to other motor vehicles, preferably commercial vehicles.
[0042] The motor vehicle 10 is expediently powered by an internal combustion engine, e.g., a diesel, gasoline, and / or gas-fired internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine can generate exhaust gas, which can be treated in an exhaust aftertreatment device of the motor vehicle 10.
[0043] The motor vehicle 10 has a vehicle frame 12 and a driver's cab (driver's cab or driver's cabin) 14.
[0044] The vehicle frame 12 is expediently designed as a ladder frame. The vehicle frame 12 has two parallel longitudinal members. The longitudinal members are connected to each other by means of several cross members. The vehicle frame 12 is supported on at least one front axle and at least one rear axle of the motor vehicle 10. The vehicle frame 12 supports the driver's cab 14 and other components of the motor vehicle 10, e.g., the internal combustion engine, a transmission, tanks, etc.
[0045] The driver's cab 14 provides a driver's workstation for driving the motor vehicle 10. The driver's cab 14 is supported on the vehicle frame 12. The driver's cab 14 can be tiltable, for example, to provide access to the internal combustion engine for maintenance work, etc. The driver's cab 14 can be designed as a cab-over-engine vehicle, as shown. A long-hood or short-hood version is also possible.
[0046] At least one connection 18 (only schematically indicated in the figures) can be arranged on a rear wall 16 of the driver's cab 14. The connection 18 can, for example, be an electrical supply connection for providing electrical energy or a communications connection as a data interface. The connection 18 can, for example, also be a suitable pneumatic or hydraulic media supply connection, e.g., for providing compressed air or hydraulic fluid. At least one line can be connected to the at least one connection 18, for example, to connect a corresponding connection on the semi-trailer or trailer to the connection 18. In this way, for example, a pneumatic braking device of the semi-trailer or trailer can be supplied with compressed air, etc.
[0047] In order to gain access to the at least one connection 18 (or to the counter connections on the semi-trailer or trailer), a work platform (climbing area) 20 is provided. The work platform 20 is arranged at the rear of the driver's cab, directly behind the rear wall 16 of the driver's cab 14. The work platform 20 is arranged in the region of the vehicle frame 12, e.g. approximately at wheel height of the motor vehicle 10. The work platform 20 is arranged above the vehicle frame 12 and is expediently supported thereon. The work platform 20 is walkable. The work platform 20 is horizontally aligned. A stepladder 22 is arranged, preferably attached, at one end of the work platform 20. The stepladder 22 makes it easier to climb onto the work platform 20. The work platform can have a western rectangular shape, e.g. B. with a width of 40 cm ± 10 cm and / or a length of 160 cm ± 40 cm.The work platform can have one level or several levels, for example connected by a step.
[0048] Conventionally, the work platform 20 is arranged directly above the vehicle frame 12. In contrast to this conventional technique, it is proposed herein to displace the work platform 20 upwards in a vertical direction by a certain amount, e.g., by 5 cm to 20 cm, preferably approximately 10 cm. A tank 24 can be at least partially arranged in the space created between a bottom side of the work platform 20 and a top side of the vehicle frame 12.
[0049] The tank 24 is preferably designed as a reducing agent tank for holding a reducing agent, e.g., an aqueous urea solution. The reducing agent can be supplied to an exhaust gas aftertreatment device 26 (schematically shown in Figure 4indicated), preferably for reducing nitrogen oxides. The exhaust aftertreatment device 26 can, for example, comprise an oxidation catalyst, a particulate filter, and / or an SCR exhaust aftertreatment device (SCR = selective catalytic reduction).
[0050] The free space between the vehicle frame 12 and the work platform 20 can, for example, allow a tank volume of the tank 24 in a range between 40 l and 100 l, preferably between 50 l and 90 l, particularly preferably between 60 l and 80 l. In the area between an upper side of the vehicle frame 12 and a lower side of the work platform 20, the tank 24 can have a height in a range between 5 cm and 20 cm, preferably between 7 cm and 15 cm, particularly preferably around 10 cm.
[0051] The tank 24 is partially arranged between an upper side of the vehicle frame 12 and an underside of the work platform 20. A shape of the tank 24 is adapted to a shape of the work platform 20. The work platform 20 expediently covers the tank 24 at least in part.
[0052] Preferably, the tank 24 has a cuboid-shaped region between the work platform 20 and the vehicle frame 12. An upper side of the cuboid-shaped region can be arranged directly below the underside of the work platform 20. A lower side of the cuboid-shaped region can be arranged directly above the upper side of the vehicle frame 12. The cuboid-shaped region of the tank 24 can be at least partially (e.g., on one side, two sides, three sides, or four sides) flush with the work platform 20.
[0053] The tank 24 can be elastically supported or rest on the vehicle frame 12. For example, rubber buffers can be arranged between the tank 24 and an upper side of the vehicle frame 12. The tank 24 can be attached to the vehicle frame 12. For example, the tank 24 can be screwed to the vehicle frame 12 and / or plugged onto the vehicle frame 12. It is also possible to attach the tank 24 to the work platform 20, for example, by screwing or plugging it in, for example, to a step of the work platform 20.
[0054] The work platform 20 is expediently supported on the vehicle frame 12 in such a way that damage to the tank 24 is prevented when walking on the work platform 20. The work platform 20 is expediently supported on the vehicle frame 12 in such a way that, when subjected to load, it does not act on a cavity in the tank 24 filled, for example, with reducing agent. Thus, the tank 24 does not need to be constructed so stably that it can withstand the load exerted by one or more persons standing on the work platform 20.
[0055] For example, screw domes can be used. The screw domes can be connected to the vehicle frame 12. The screw domes can be arranged, for example, in recesses (e.g., through holes or dome sections) of the tank 24. The work platform 20 can be detachably screwed to the screw domes.
[0056] The tank 24 can have a pump 28 (see Figure 2), preferably a reducing agent pump. It is possible for the tank 24 to have an extended area in which the pump 28 is accommodated. The extended area may, for example, not be covered by the work platform 20. Instead, the extended area may project upwards above the work platform 20 in a vertical direction. The extended area may be an area of the tank 24 that projects beyond the work platform 20 in a direction towards the rear wall 16 with respect to a forward direction of travel of the motor vehicle 10. The extended area may, for example, adjoin the cuboid-shaped area of the tank 24 between the work platform 20 and the vehicle frame 12. The extended area may, for example, create installation space for the pump 28 and / or enable an increase in the volume of the tank 24. The extended area may, for example, be cuboid-shaped itself.
[0057] The tank 24 can have a (horizontal) L-shaped cross-section with respect to a vertical plane in which a longitudinal axis of the motor vehicle 10 runs. The long leg of the L-shaped cross-section can be formed by the cuboid-shaped region of the tank 24 between the work platform 20 and the vehicle frame 12. The short leg of the L-shaped cross-section can be formed by the extended region of the tank 24 that projects beyond the work platform 20.
[0058] It is also possible for the tank 24 to have at least one extended region which projects downwards in a vertical direction beyond an upper edge or top side of the vehicle frame 12 (not shown), in particular between the longitudinal members of the vehicle frame 12. For example, the tank 24 could have an extended region which extends on one side parallel to the first longitudinal member of the vehicle frame 12. Two extended regions could also be provided which extend on both sides parallel to the first and second longitudinal members, wherein preferably centrally (with respect to a transverse direction of the motor vehicle 10) between the extended regions, for example, installation space can remain for a section of the drive train, i.e. no extended region is provided. The pump 28 could also be accommodated in one of these extended regions.
[0059] The tank 24 of the embodiment of the Figures 1 to 4is arranged centrally or centrally behind the driver's cab 14 with respect to a transverse direction of the motor vehicle 10. The work platform 20 is designed in steps. A first level of the work platform 20 is arranged next to the tank 24. The first level is arranged at the level of a bottom side of the tank 24. A second level is arranged on the tank 24 and is expediently adapted to a shape of the tank 24, in particular to a shape of the cuboid-shaped region of the tank 24.
[0060] The exhaust aftertreatment device 26 (see Figure 4) can be attached to the vehicle frame 12 next to the tank 24. Preferably, the tank 24 is not arranged above the exhaust gas aftertreatment device 26. Instead, the tank 24 can preferably be substantially flush with the vehicle frame 12 with respect to that outer side of the vehicle frame 12 on which the exhaust gas aftertreatment device 26 is arranged. This can prevent, for example, a negative influence on the fluid in the tank 24 from waste heat from the exhaust gas aftertreatment device 26. It is namely possible that a surface temperature of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device 26 can rise to, for example, 400°C during operation.
[0061] It is possible that thermal insulation, for example heat insulation, is arranged between the tank 24 and the exhaust gas aftertreatment device 26.
[0062] The tank 24 is in fluid communication with the exhaust aftertreatment device 26 to supply reducing agent from the tank 24 to the exhaust aftertreatment device 26. The reducing agent can be injected or sprayed into the flowing exhaust gas in the exhaust aftertreatment device 26.
[0063] The Figures 5 to 8 show another embodiment.
[0064] The tank 24 is in the further embodiment of the Figures 5 to 8 larger than the tank 24 of the motor vehicle from the Figures 1 to 4 This can be done by a one-page (or multi-page)
[0065] Extension of the tank 24 in a transverse direction of the motor vehicle 10 beyond the vehicle frame 12 should be possible. The tank 24 is thus arranged centrally behind and on only one outer side behind the rear wall 16 of the driver's cab 14. The work platform 20 is flat or stepless and essentially covers the tank 24. It is also possible for the tank 24 to be extended alternatively or additionally on the other outer side. Likewise, the tank 24 can be widened, for example, to increase the volume of the tank 24.
[0066] Even though the particularly preferred embodiment in which the tank 24 is designed as a reducing agent tank is shown and described herein, it is pointed out that the tank 24 could in principle also be used to store other fluids (e.g. liquid or gaseous fuel, compressed air, etc.).
[0067] The invention is not limited to the preferred embodiments described above. Rather, a multitude of variants and modifications are possible which also make use of the inventive concept and therefore fall within the scope of protection. In particular, the invention also claims protection for the subject matter and features of the subclaims, independently of the claims referred to. In particular, the individual features of independent claim 1 are each disclosed independently of one another. In addition, the features of the subclaims are also disclosed independently of all features of independent claim 1 and, for example, independently of the features relating to the presence and / or configuration of the vehicle frame, the driver's cab, the work platform and / or the tank of independent claim 1.All ranges stated herein are to be understood as being disclosed in such a way that all values falling within the respective range are disclosed individually, e.g., also as preferred narrower outer limits of the respective range.
