Description

[0001] The invention relates to a kitchen utensil of the type comprising a plastic lid whose shape corresponds to that of a glass container, and a closing system capable of holding the lid on the container in a mutual engagement in which a part of the lid bears against a free edge of the container.

[0002] Utensils of this type are used in combination with the glass container to form a storage box, practically airtight.

[0003] Utensils of this type are known whose closure system includes a seal installed in the lid. The seal takes the form of a cord that extends along a contour corresponding to that of the free edge of the container. Typically, the cord is housed in a groove formed in the thickness of the lid. The lid and the cord are arranged in such a way that the cord covers the free edge of the container when the lid is positioned over an opening in the container.

[0004] The closure system then further comprises flaps, hinged on the lid, which are arranged so as to engage under a part of the container adjacent to the free edge, on the outside of the container. The flaps are shaped so as to tighten the lid against the free edge of the container when the flaps are engaged. This tightening results in a compression of the seal, between the lid and the free edge, which makes the engagement of the lid on the container practically airtight.

[0005] The flaps are usually made of plastic. The flaps are usually made of the same material as the rest of the lid. With use, the flaps become deformed, so the tightness produced by these flaps tends to weaken. On the contrary, during the first uses, you have to force the flaps to engage them.

[0006] Gradually, these hinged lids gave way to a different type of lid, in which the closing system includes a peripheral lip integral with the lid and which projects from it. This peripheral lip has a sealing function.

[0007] The peripheral lip has a profile shaped in such a way that a portion of the lip folds against an inner side wall of the container, under the free edge of the container, when the lid comes to bear against this edge. This results in a mutual engagement of the lid and the container, the sealing of which is achieved between the side wall of the container and the lid, rather than between the free edge of the container and this lid.

[0008] Maintaining this mutual engagement of the container is achieved by the adhesion of the folded lip against the inner side wall of the container. To ensure sufficient adhesion, including in the presence of fatty substances on the side wall, advantage is taken of the fact that the side wall of the container is generally flared, i.e. it extends from the bottom of the container, deviating from a direction normal to the bottom towards the outside. The peripheral lip is provided to project from the lid in such a way that it comes into contact with the inner side surface of the container, quite far from the free edge thereof. In other words, the contact between the lip and the inner side wall of the container is made deep to ensure that the lid is maintained in its engagement with the container. Thus, the lip is more folded and over a larger part of itself, which increases adhesion. This configuration is however accompanied by a reduction in the useful volume of the container.

[0009] Such a state-of-the-art container is disclosed in WO01 / 51362 A2.

[0010] The Applicant set itself the objective of improving the situation.

[0011] It proposes a kitchen utensil of the type comprising a plastic lid in shape matching a glass container, and a closure system capable of holding the lid on the container in a mutual engagement in which a portion of the lid bears against a free edge of the container. The closure system comprises at least one peripheral lip, integral with the lid, which is folded, at least in part, against a side wall of the container when the lid and the container are mutually engaged. The lid has at least one portion homologous to at least one portion of the container which projects from at least part of the free edge, towards the outside of the container. The closure system comprises at least one slider with a curved end, mounted in translation on the lid, the slider is movable between a first position where its curved end is located away from the homologous portion of the lid to allow the engagement of the lid and the container with the homologous portion opposite the projecting portion of the container, and a second position where the curved end of the slider is close to the homologous portion to engage the projecting portion of the container.

[0012] The proposed utensil can securely engage on the open face of a container. The utensil can be designed in such a way that the sealing lip makes contact on the side wall of the container, close to its free edge. This allows the useful volume of the container to be maintained.

[0013] This also improves the effectiveness of the closure: the Applicant has thus found that the deeper one goes into the internal side wall, the greater the probability that there will be a fatty substance there. Finally, the greater folding of the peripheral lip is avoided, which is generally accompanied by a difficult positioning of the lid on the container, which requires greater effort on the part of the user.

[0014] The Applicant also proposes a kitchen utensil kit of the type comprising a glass container, a plastic lid corresponding in shape to the glass container, and a closure system capable of holding the lid on the container in a mutual engagement in which a portion of the lid bears against a free edge of the container. The closure system comprises at least one peripheral lip, integral with the lid, which is folded, at least in part, against a side wall of the container when the lid and the container are mutually engaged. The lid has at least one portion homologous to at least one portion of the container which projects from at least a portion of the free edge, towards the outside of the container.

[0016] The attached drawings contain elements of a certain character. They may not only serve to complete the invention, but also contribute to its definition, if necessary.

[0017] We refer to the figures 1 et 2 .

[0018] They show a kitchen utensil in the form of a lid 1 intended to cover a glass container not shown.

[0019] The lid 1 comprises a generally flat lid base 3 whose contour corresponds to the contour of the glass container for which the lid 1 is intended. Here, the base 3 has a generally rectangular contour. The base 3 is for example made of plastic.

[0020] The lid 1 further comprises a flexible ring 5 which is mounted on the base 3 of the lid 1. When flat, the flexible ring 5 extends along a contour which generally corresponds to the contour of the opening of the container for which the lid 1 is intended. Here, the flexible ring 5 extends along a generally rectangular contour.

[0021] The flexible ring 5 comprises an outer edge shaped into a peripheral lip 7 and an inner edge to which the peripheral lip 7 is attached. The inner edge of the flexible ring 5 is shaped into a holding portion 9.

[0022] The base 3 has a first large face, or lower face 11, intended to come opposite the opening of the glass container. The lid base 3 further comprises a second large face, or upper face 13, opposite the lower face 11.

[0023] The lid 1 comprises a first rib 15 secured to the base 3. The first rib 15 projects from the lower face 11 of the base 3. The rib 15 extends along a closed contour whose shape corresponds to the contour of the opening of the glass container for which the lid 1 is intended. Here, the first rib 15 extends along a generally rectangular contour.

[0024] The rib 15 has a peripheral groove 17 which extends along the contour of this rib 15. The cross-section of the peripheral groove 17 corresponds to the profile of the holding portion 9 of the flexible ring 5.

[0025] The cover 1 also includes a pair of tabs 19 each slidably mounted on the base 3.

[0026] Each leg 19 has a first large face, or lower face 21, and a second large face, or upper face 23, opposite the lower face 21.

[0027] The lower face 21 is intended to come opposite an upper face of the glass container.

[0028] Each leg 19 has a generally flat body 24, with a generally rectangular outline, and a curved portion 25 which projects from the lower face 21 of the leg 19. The curved portion 25 is integral with the body 24. Here, the curved portion 25 is attached to the body 24 on a small side thereof.

[0029] Each leg 19 has a housing 27 adapted to receive a sealing gasket 29, here in the general shape of a disc. The housing 27 is provided on the lower face 21 of each leg 19.

[0030] The base 3 has a contour with two elongated edges 30 which extend parallel to each other. The elongated edges 30 are connected to each other by two mutually opposite transverse edges 31. Here, the transverse edges 31 generally extend in a curve. The curvature of the transverse edges 31 is such that it provides in the base 3 two portions which are widened relative to a rectangular contour. These widened portions form portions which are favorable for gripping the cover 1, or gripping portions 32. The base 3 has a pair of notches 33 each formed in a respective transverse edge 31 of the contour of the base 3. Here, the notches 33 are generally rectangular. Each notch 33 extends along its respective transverse edge 31 by a length which corresponds to the width of a respective tab 19. The notches 33 are provided in a median zone of their respective transverse edge 31.

[0031] The legs 19 are mounted on the base 3 in the notches 33 with the possibility of sliding in a first direction. Here, the first direction corresponds substantially to a longitudinal direction of the base 3. Each leg 19 can be moved in this first direction relative to the base 3 between a first position, visible on the left of the figure 2 , where the curved part 25 is located above a notch 33 and a second position, visible on the right of the figure 2 , where the curved portion 25 projects from the transverse edge 31, towards the outside of the base 3. Here, the end of each tab 19 carrying the curved portion 25 is flush with the transverse edge 31 of the base 3 when the tab is in the first position relative to this base 3.

[0032] The lower face 11 of the base 3 has a central portion 16, bordered by the rib 15. The lower face 11 of the base 3 has two elongated raised portions 18. These projecting surfaces 18 are arranged symmetrically to each other with respect to a transverse plane of the base 3. They extend opposite each of a respective notch 33. The raised portions 18 extend in the longitudinal direction of the base 3.

[0033] We refer to the figures 3 et 4 .

[0034] They show base 3 alone.

[0035] The base 3 has a first plane of symmetry, or longitudinal plane of symmetry 34, perpendicular to the main plane of the base 3 and which extends in the longitudinal direction of the base 3.

[0036] The base 3 has a pair of recesses of a first type, or first recesses 35. Each recess 35 is shaped so as to accommodate at least part of a disc-shaped seal, typically the seal 29 of the figure 1 Each recess 35 is shaped so as to receive a portion of a respective seal 29 which protrudes from the housing 27 of this seal 29 on a tab 19.

[0037] The base 3 further comprises a pair of orifices of a first type, or first orifices 37, which pass through a thickness of the base 3. The portion of each seal 29 which projects from a housing 27 is shaped so as to close at least the respective first orifice 37. Each orifice 37 opens onto the inner surface 11 in a respective raised portion 18. Each orifice 37 opens onto the outer face 13 in the center of a boss (not referenced). A lower part of this boss or a part extending it may be provided adjacent to a respective recess 35. This makes it possible to create a sort of ramp on which the part of the seal 29 which projects from its housing 27 can slide.

[0038] In each case, a first orifice 37 is provided near a first recess 35. In each case, a first orifice 37 and its first proximal recess 35 are close to one of the transverse edges 31 and distant from the other. In each case, a first orifice 37 and its first proximal recess 35 are located in the middle of the width of the base, at the level of the notch 33 of a proximal transverse edge 31. The first recesses 35 and the first orifices 37 are aligned with each other in the first direction, here in the length of the base 3.

[0039] Here, each pair formed by a first orifice 37 and its first proximal recess 35 is in symmetry with a homologous pair with respect to a second plane of symmetry of the base 3, or transverse plane of symmetry 39, perpendicular to the main plane of the base 3 and to the longitudinal plane of symmetry. The first recesses 35 and the first orifices 37 are further arranged in the longitudinal plane of symmetry 34.

[0040] The upper face 13 of the base 3 has a central portion 40, the outline of which is here generally rectangular. The upper face 13 also comprises a peripheral portion 41 which borders the central portion 40. The peripheral portion 41 slightly overhangs the central part 40.

[0041] Each time, between a transverse edge 31 of the base 3 and the peripheral portion 41, the base 3 has two respective portions, or second gripping portions 43, which facilitate gripping of the cover 1. Here, the second gripping portions 43 are located at the level of the remainder of the peripheral portion 41. Alternatively, they could be located at a slightly lower level. Each second gripping portion 43 is located at least partly opposite a respective first gripping portion 32 of the lower face 11 and separated from the latter by the thickness of the base 3.

[0042] The upper face 13 of the base 3 also has two homologous recesses 45, arranged symmetrically with respect to the transverse plane of symmetry 39. Each recess 45 extends over a part of the central portion 40 and extends over a part of the peripheral edge 41 in which it forms a notch 47. Each recess 45 is located in the extension of a respective notch 33.

[0043] Each pair formed by a first orifice 37 and its first proximal recess 35 is formed in a respective recess 45. The recesses 45 are each arranged above a respective raised portion 18. The recesses 45 of the upper face 13 of the base 3 are opposite the projecting surfaces 18 along the thickness of the base 3.

[0044] We refer to the figure 5 .

[0045] The body 24 of each leg 19 is housed in a respective recess 45. Each leg 19 has at least one pair of fins 49 which each project from a respective longitudinal edge of the body 24. The fins 49 guide the translation of the leg 19 on the edges of the recess 45.

[0046] The depth of the recess 45 is such that the upper face 23 of the tab 19 does not protrude from the upper face 13 of the cover 1, at least in the vicinity of this recess 45. Here, the upper face 23 of the tab 19 is flush with the upper face 13 of the cover 1 in the vicinity of the recess 45.

[0047] We refer to the figure 6 .

[0048] The body 24 of each leg 19 has a pair of lateral grooves 51 extending along the length of the body 24. The lateral grooves 51 are formed in the thickness of the body 24. Each lateral groove 51 is open on a respective longitudinal edge of the body 24. Each of these lateral grooves 51 engages on an edge of the notch 33. Here, each edge of the notch 33 has an elongated rib 50 which projects inside the respective recess 45.

[0049] The ribs 50 and the grooves 51 cooperate in such a way as to complete the translational guidance of each of the legs 19 on the base 3, along a respective recess 45.

[0050] We refer to the figure 7 .

[0051] When a tab 19 is in the first position relative to the base 3, the first orifice 37 formed in the corresponding recess 45 coincides with a part of the seal 29 which projects from its housing 27. This projecting part closes the first orifice 37, in a gas-tight manner. The presence of a boss surrounding the first orifice 37 contributes to maintaining this seal. The upper face 23 of the tab 19 is flush with the upper face 13 of the cover 1.

[0052] We refer to the figure 8 .

[0053] It shows an isolated leg 19.

[0054] The lower face 21 of the leg 19 has a projecting surface arranged in the form of a ramp 53 which rises from a part of the body 24 close to the end of the leg 19 opposite the curved part 25 towards this curved part 25. The ramp 53 extends towards the curved part 25 in a plateau 54 corresponding to a projecting surface which extends parallel to a main plane of the body 24.

[0055] Each fin 49 further projects from the lower surface 21 of the tab 19.

[0056] Each lateral groove 51 is formed in a thickness of the tab 19, under a portion 55 of the body 54 which extends opposite the curved portion 25.

[0057] We refer to the figures 9 et 11 .

[0058] The upper face 23 of each leg 19 has a second recess, or pusher 57, shaped so as to facilitate pushing of the leg 19 by means of a finger. The pusher 57 is located opposite the ramp 53 and the plate 54 along the thickness of the body 24 of the leg 19.

[0059] We refer to the figure 10 .

[0060] The curved part 25 comprises a first portion 59 which extends parallel to the lower face 21 of the tab 19, i.e. to a main plane of the body 24, and which connects to the body 24 on the lower face 21 via a connecting surface 60. The connecting surface 60 here extends generally perpendicular to the lower surface 21 or to the main plane of the body 24. The curved part 25 has a hook-like profile.

[0061] The connecting portion 60 corresponds to a longitudinal end of the tab 19 opposite the housing 27. The body 24 of each tab 19 has a free end while the end longitudinally opposite this free end carries the curved part 25.

[0062] We refer to the figure 12 .

[0063] The grooves 51 are open on the longitudinal edges of the body 24, in the thickness thereof.

[0064] We refer to the figure 13 .

[0065] The rib 15 is located on the lower face 11 opposite, with respect to the thickness of the base 3, a portion where the central part 40 and the peripheral part 41 of the upper face 13 are connected.

[0066] The rib 15 has two walls which extend parallel to each other and to the lower face 11 of the base 3. A first of these walls 61 is located near the inner face 11 while the second wall 63 is located away from it. The first wall 61 and the second wall 63 are each connected to a cross-member wall 65. This cross-member 65 is attached to the inner face 11 of the base 3 and projects from the latter generally perpendicular to this face. The first wall 61 and the second wall 63 delimit between them the peripheral groove 17 of the rib 15.

[0067] We refer to the figure 14 .

[0068] The flexible ring 5 has an outer edge 7 shaped into a peripheral lip and an inner edge shaped into a holding portion 9. The holding portion 9 and the groove 17 are mutually corresponding.

[0069] The holding portion 9 and the peripheral lip 7 generally extend parallel to each other. They extend in respective main planes offset from each other, here by approximately the thickness of the holding portion 9. The peripheral lip 7 and the holding portion 9 are connected to each other by an intermediate portion 71 of the flexible ring 5 which generally extends perpendicular to the main planes of these portions.

[0070] The receiving portion and the intermediate portion 71 have a generally constant thickness, while the lip portion 7 has a thickness which decreases from the intermediate portion 71 towards its free end.

[0071] The holding part 9 and the groove 17 are shaped so that the receiving part 9 engages in this groove 9 until the intermediate portion 71 comes to abut against one and / or the other of the first wall 61 and the second wall 63 of the rib 15.

[0072] We refer to the figures 15 à 17 .

[0073] The cover 1 is positioned relative to a glass container 73.

[0074] The glass container 73 is made of one piece. It has a large upper face and a large lower face, opposite the upper face. The glass container 73 has a wall with a portion that forms a generally flat bottom 75 on the lower face and a lateral portion 77 that borders this bottom 75. The container 73 is open on the upper face. The container 73 has a free edge 79 around the opening of the container and which terminates the lateral portion 77. The lateral portion 77 widens as it rises relative to the bottom 75. The lateral portion 77 deviates from a direction perpendicular to the bottom 75 as it moves away from the latter.

[0075] The container 73 further comprises a pair of handles 81 which project from the lateral portion 77. The handles 81 are mutually opposite, here with respect to a longitudinal direction of the container 73. The handles 81 here extend generally parallel to the bottom 75. Here, the handles 81 extend substantially below the free edge 79, along only a portion thereof. Alternatively, the container 73 may comprise a handle 81 which extends all along the free edge 79.

[0076] A part of the base 3 of the cover 1 between the edge of the base 30 and the rib 15 is in abutment against the free edge 79 of the container 73. The cover 1 is engaged with the container 73. The groove 15 is located inside the container 73.

[0077] The peripheral lip 7 of the flexible ring 5 comes into contact with the side wall 77, internally to the latter and folds back so as to form a seal between the internal space of the container 73 and this lip 7. This contact is made quite high, here substantially at the level of a lower face of the handles 81.

[0078] On the figure 16 , leg 19 is in second position relative to the base.

[0079] The curved edge 35 is moved away from the handle 81. The cover 1 can be installed in its engagement position on the container 73. In this second position of the tab, the seal 29 is housed in the recess 35. The orifice 37 is free. The orifice 37 allows equalization of the pressures between the interior of the container 73 on the side of the lower face 11 of the base 3 and the exterior, on the side of the upper face 13 thereof. The release of the orifice 37 and the placing in the second position of a tab 19 is done simultaneously, in a single movement.

[0080] This pressure equalization greatly simplifies the installation of the cover 1 in its engagement position by eliminating any piston effect which could be caused due to the seal created by the lip contact 7 on the side face 77.

[0081] On the figure 15 , the leg 19 is in its first position relative to the base 3.

[0082] The curved portion 25 is engaged with the handle 81. The portion forming the handle 81 is trapped in the curved portion 25 between the first portion 59 and the connecting portion 61 thereof.

[0083] The engagement of the cover 1 on the container 73 is locked. The cover 1 is integral with the container 73. The curved portion 25 prevents the removal of the cover 1 from its engagement position on the container 73.

[0084] The seal 29 is in a position where it closes the orifice 37. The container 73 is hermetically closed by the cover 1. The orifice 37 is closed simultaneously with the locking of the cover 1 on the container 73, in a single movement.

[0085] To heat the contents of the container 73, the cover 1 can remain engaged on the container 73 where it protects the oven, in particular of the microwave type, from projections of the contents of the container. The engagement keeps the cover in position. By translating the tabs 19 from the first position to the second, the interior of the container 73 is exposed, which limits excess pressure under the cover 1. In addition, the cover is unlocked from its engagement position, which allows the cover to leave this engagement in the event of excess pressure due, for example, to insufficient exhaust through the orifices 37.

[0086] The seal 29 and the orifice 37 are mutually positioned so that the seal 29 is located away from the orifice 37 when the respective tab 19 is in the first position.

[0087] A lid 1 and a system for closing the lid 1 have just been described, each comprising the tabs 19. Each of these acts in the manner of a slider mounted in translation on the lid 1. This slider moves between a first position where its curved end 25 is located away from the gripping portion 32 which is homologous thereto. The lid 1 and the container 73 can be mutually engaged with the gripping portion 32 facing a handle 81 of the container, and a second position where its curved end 25 is close to the gripping portion 32 to engage the handle 81 of the container 73.

[0088] The embodiment of the cover 1 which has just been described has been given only as an example.

[0089] The invention encompasses all variants that may be envisaged by a person skilled in the art, provided that they are covered by the scope of the appended claims. In particular: The cover 1 can take any contour, corresponding to the contour of the container opening 73, for example square or circular; One of the tabs 19 can be mounted fixed relative to the base 3, for example in the first position, while the other tab 19 is mounted with the possibility of translation as described above; The tabs 19 are preferably arranged oppositely on the base 3, for example along the length, width or center thereof; The tabs 19 can be arranged on the long sides 30 of the contour of the base and / or offset from each other longitudinally or transversely; More than two tabs 19 can be provided; The seal 29 could not protrude from its housing 27, and it would be possible to do without a recess 35. the homologous portion 32 is shaped at least partly into a gripping zone of the cover 1;the slider 19 comprises a tab provided with guide members capable of cooperating with homologous members provided in the cover 1; the cover 1 has a notch 33 and said homologous members comprise two edges of this notch 33 parallel to each other, and said guide members comprise a pair of lateral grooves 51 formed in said tab, each lateral groove 51 being arranged so as to engage on one of the parallel edges of the notch 33; at least one of said parallel edges of the notch 33 has a rib 50 which is received in one of the pair of lateral grooves 51; the guide members comprise at least one fin 49 which projects from the tab and the homologous members comprise at least one groove formed in a thickness of the cover 1; the projecting portion 81 is shaped, at least in part, as a handle of the container 73.;
