Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: MULTI-LAYER SELF-ADHESIVE LABEL Technical field
[0001] The invention relates to a multi-layer self-adhesive label, useful in particular for duplicating information written on the label. TECHNOLOGICAL BACKGROUND
[0002] Self-adhesive labels are commonly used to affix various markings to objects. The labels can be applied to the surfaces of the objects. The labels may have predefined empty locations to be filled by the user with textual information.
[0003] Sometimes it is necessary to store a copy of the information on the label. For example, if the label is an address label applied to a letter or package and the user fills out the label with the recipient's address information, the user may need to have a copy of this information to know to whom the package was sent. Typically, the user must keep a separate notebook for this information and fill out the address information twice - first on the label and then on the notebook. This is time-consuming and can lead to errors if the information is not filled out according to an exact copy. Summary of the invention
[0004] The present invention solves the problems of the prior art by providing a self-adhesive label with functionality that allows easy copying of the content written on the label.
[0005] More specifically, the invention relates to a label, comprising: - a support layer coated with a first non-stick coating; -an intermediate layer made of carbonless coated paper on the back side, coated on a first side, facing the support layer, with a first pressure-sensitive adhesive formed into a peripheral edge and on the second side with a second release coating; - a top layer coated, on one side facing the intermediate layer, with a second self-adhesive adhesive; -wherein the intermediate layer and the top layer are perforated along a perforation line formed at the inner edge of the peripheral rim of the first pressure-sensitive adhesive.
[0006] According to one variant, the support layer is made of kraft paper.
[0007] According to a further variant, the support layer consists of a paper coated with glass.
[0008] According to yet another variant, the peripheral edge of the first self-adhesive adhesive has a width of between 1 and 10 mm, preferably 5 mm.
[0009] According to one variant, the upper layer is made of offset paper. Brief description of the drawings
[0010] The invention is represented by means of exemplary embodiments in drawings, in which:
[0011] [Fig-1] shows layers of the label;
[0012] [Fig.2] shows the remaining layers of the label when applied to a substrate;
[0013] [Fig.3] shows the remaining layers of the label edge after the label is removed from the substrate;
[0014] [Fig.4] shows the remaining layers of the label removed from the substrate;
[0015] [Fig.5] shows the remaining layers of the label when applied to the article labeled. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0016] An exemplary embodiment of the label according to the invention is shown in [Fig.l], while Figures 2-5 show some of its layers when used when applying the layer to a form and to a labeled article.
[0017] In the preferred embodiment shown herein, the label is formed of three main layers as shown in [Fig.l], having particular coatings and applied one on top of the other. This does not exclude other embodiments with additional layers applied between the layers shown in [Fig.l], or on top or bottom of the stack of layers shown in [Fig.l]. A support layer 10, for example made of kraft or base paper, is coated with a first release liner 11, for example silicone. The release liner 11 is a coating which allows easy separation from a layer applied thereon, coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (designated PSA).Above the carrier layer 10 is applied an intermediate layer 20, which consists of a carbonless, back-coated (CB) paper (with the coated or smoothing back layer facing the carrier layer). The intermediate layer 20 is coated on a first side, facing the carrier layer 10, with a first PSA 21 formed into a peripheral rim. For example, the intermediate layer may have dimensions (width x height, WxH) of 40x80 mm and the rim of the PSA 21 may have a width w of 5 mm. Other rim widths w may be used, depending, among other things, on the available space and the size of the label. Generally, the label may have . dimensions L and H ranging from a few centimeters to a dozen or even a few dozen centimeters. The support layer 10 may have dimensions larger than those of the intermediate layer 20, in order to facilitate the detachment of the intermediate layer 20 with respect to the support layer 10. The second face of the intermediate layer 20 is coated with a second release coating 22. A top layer 30 is disposed on the intermediate layer 20, and is made for example from an offset paper or another type of paper or another writable surface. The top layer 30 may contain certain pre-printed markings, such as lines indicating places where the text should preferably be written or indicators of the type of text that is expected (for example "name", "address"). The top layer 30 is coated on the side facing the intermediate layer 20, with a second pressure-sensitive adhesive 31.The intermediate layer 20 and the top layer 30 are perforated along a perforation line 33 formed at the inner edge of the peripheral rim of the first pressure-sensitive adhesive 21. The perforation line 33 is preferably made by simultaneously stamping the top layer 30 and the intermediate layer 20 with their coatings applied thereto. The perforation line 33 may be adjacent to the peripheral rim of the first PSA 21 or may be inwardly distant therefrom.
[0018] The label may be used as explained with reference to Figures 2 to 5. The label is particularly useful in a situation where certain information needs to be applied to an item and a copy of that information needs to be stored on a form separate from the item. For example, a merchant may need to send a letter or parcel by post and mark the letter or parcel with the recipient's address, as well as keep the recipient's address in a notebook. In this case, the label may be used as follows.
[0019] First, the backing layer 10 is peeled off the label, thereby exposing the first PSA layer 21, by means of which the other layers 20, 30 of the label can be applied to a substrate 40, on which a copy of the information written on the label is to be stored. For example, the substrate 40 can be a separate sheet (such as a form) or a page of a notebook. The substrate 40 is preferably made of a single-sided carbonless (CF) paper. After applying the layers 20, 30 of the label to the substrate 40, the user can write on top of the label, using a pen or hard pencil, the desired information, such as the name and address of the recipient of a package. Due to the pressure applied by the pen or pencil, the marks applied on top of the top layer 30 will be copied via the intermediate layer CB 20 onto the substrate CF and will remain on the substrate.
[0020] Once the information is applied to the upper layer, the inter layer intermediate layer 20 and fragments of the upper layer 30 within the perforation line 33 can be removed by breaking the material along the perforation line 33, thereby leaving on the substrate 40 only the peripheral portions of the intermediate layer 20 and the upper layer 30 as illustrated in [Fig. 3], while retaining separate internal portions of the intermediate layer 20 and the upper layer 30 as illustrated in [Fig. 4].
[0021] Then, the remaining inner portion of the top layer 30 can be peeled off from the intermediate layer 20 and applied to the item 50 to be labeled, as shown in [Fig. 5]. Therefore, the item 50 to be labeled contains TEKST markings applied to the top layer 30 of the label and the substrate 40 of the form or booklet contains a copy of these TEKST markings.
