Description

Title of the invention: Method and device for controlling a vehicle according to an accompanied driving mode Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to methods and devices for vehicle control, and more particularly according to an accompanied driving mode. The present invention also relates to a method and a device for controlling the display of human-machine interface content when the vehicle is traveling according to the accompanied driving mode. Technological background

[0002] Learning to drive a vehicle, for example a motor vehicle, is currently done according to several training schemes.

[0003] For example, there is an apprenticeship, called accompanied driving, according to which a future driver is supervised or supervised by a person experienced in driving a vehicle to acquire better driving experience and vehicle control before passing the driving test.

[0004] This type of accompanied driving learning can take several forms known as early driving learning, supervised driving or supervised driving, hereinafter grouped under the concept of accompanied driving.

[0005] Unlike learning with a professional who has a vehicle suitable for learning to drive, with dual brake control for example (for example a brake pedal at the driving position and a brake pedal at the front passenger position), accompanied driving generally takes place with the vehicle of the experienced person who does not have such equipment.

[0006] Access to the brake control is sometimes complicated for the attendant supervising the future driver's driving, which can present a danger in situations where the attendant must quickly reduce the speed of the vehicle if the future driver does not do so.

[0007] Summary of the present invention

[0008] An object of the present invention is to solve at least one of the problems of the technological background described above.

[0009] Another object of the present invention is to improve the safety of a vehicle and its passengers, particularly in the context of accompanied driving.

[0010] According to a first aspect, the present invention relates to a method for controlling a vehicle, the vehicle having a display system comprising a touch screen, the method comprising the following steps: - reception of first data representative of activation of a determined driving mode of the vehicle, the determined driving mode corresponding to a so-called accompanied driving mode; - control of the display of a determined content of a human-machine interface, called HMI, associated with the determined driving mode on the touch screen, the determined content comprising a first graphic object associated with an electric parking brake system of the vehicle and a set of vehicle driving information; - receiving second data representing tactile support on the first graphic object; - transmission of a request to activate the electric parking brake to the electric parking brake system following receipt of the second data.

[0011] The display on a vehicle screen of the content of an HMI dedicated to the use of the vehicle in a so-called accompanied driving mode allows a person supervising a learner driver to access a control of the electric parking brake system of the vehicle, in the form of a graphic object (for example a virtual button or an icon) displayed on the vehicle screen.

[0012] According to a variant, the determined content further comprising a set of second graphic objects comprising at least one second graphic object, the set of second graphic objects being associated with a system for controlling a set of operating parameters of an engine of the vehicle, the method further comprising the following steps: - receiving third data representing tactile support on at least one second graphic object of the set of second graphic objects; - transmitting a request to adjust at least one engine operating parameter of the set of parameters following receipt of the third data.

[0013] According to another variant, the set of operating parameters of the engine comprises: - a parameter for controlling a motor supply voltage when the motor corresponds to an electric motor; and / or - a parameter for controlling a motor power supply intensity when the motor corresponds to an electric motor; and / or - an engine fuel supply control parameter when the engine is a combustion engine; and / or - a parameter for controlling a vehicle acceleration curve; and / or - a parameter for controlling the maximum power of the vehicle; and / or - a parameter for controlling the maximum speed of the vehicle.

[0014] According to an additional variant, the set of driving information understand : - information representative of a current vehicle speed; and / or - information representing a maximum authorized speed on a current section of road on which the vehicle is traveling; and / or - information representative of a state of attention of a driver of the vehicle; and / or - information representing a distance separating the vehicle from another vehicle preceding the vehicle on the said current section of road; and / or - information representative of each driving assistance system, known as AD AS system, of the vehicle in an activated state; and / or - information representing the activation of an AD AS system of a set of determined AD AS systems; and / or - information representing the activation of a trajectory control system on board the vehicle.

[0015] According to another variant, the method further comprises a step of transmitting a request for activation of the driving mode determined by a mobile communication device via a first wireless connection.

[0016] According to an additional variant, the request to activate the determined driving mode is transmitted by the mobile communication device to a remote data processing device, the first data being received from the remote data processing device by the vehicle via a second wireless connection.

[0017] According to a second aspect, the present invention relates to a device for controlling a vehicle, the device comprising a memory associated with a processor configured for implementing the steps of the method according to the first aspect of the present invention.

[0018] According to a third aspect, the present invention relates to a vehicle, for example of the automobile type, comprising a device as described above according to the second aspect of the present invention.

[0019] According to a fourth aspect, the present invention relates to a system comprising a vehicle as described above according to the third aspect of the present invention, a mobile communication device and a remote data processing device, the remote data processing device being connected in wireless communication to the vehicle and to the mobile communication device.

[0020] According to a fifth aspect, the present invention relates to a computer program which comprises instructions adapted for executing the steps of the method according to the first aspect of the present invention, in particular when the computer program is executed by at least one processor.

[0021] Such a computer program may use any programming language, and be in the form of source code, object code, or intermediate code between source code and object code, such as in a partially compiled form, or in any other desirable form.

[0022] According to a sixth aspect, the present invention relates to a computer-readable recording medium on which is recorded a computer program comprising instructions for carrying out the steps of the method according to the first aspect of the present invention.

[0023] On the one hand, the recording medium may be any entity or device capable of storing the program. For example, the medium may comprise a storage means, such as a ROM memory, a CD-ROM or a microelectronic circuit type ROM memory, or a magnetic recording means or a hard disk.

[0024] Furthermore, this recording medium may also be a transmissible medium such as an electrical or optical signal, such a signal being able to be conveyed via an electrical or optical cable, by conventional or hertzian radio or by self-directed laser beam or by other means. The computer program according to the present invention may in particular be downloaded from an Internet-type network.

[0025] Alternatively, the recording medium may be an integrated circuit in which the computer program is incorporated, the integrated circuit being adapted to perform or to be used in performing the method in question. Brief description of the figures

[0032] Description of the examples of embodiment

[0033] A method and a device for controlling a vehicle will now be described in the following with joint reference to Figures 1 to 5. The same elements are identified with the same reference signs throughout the description which follows.

[0034] According to a particular and non-limiting example of embodiment of the present invention, the control of a vehicle having a touch screen comprises the reception, for example by a computer of the vehicle, of first data representative of activation of a determined driving mode of the vehicle corresponding to a so-called accompanied driving mode. These first data are for example received from a control member for activation of the determined driving mode arranged in the vehicle (for example a physical control button or a virtual button displayed on the touch screen) or from a remote device, for example a server, via a wireless link. The reception of the first data triggers the control of the display of a determined content of a human-machine interface (HMI) associated and specific to the determined driving mode on the touch screen.Such content of the HMI comprises a first graphical object associated with an electric parking brake system of the vehicle and a set of vehicle driving information, which allows the person supervising the driving of the learner driver to monitor certain parameters of the vehicle via their display on the touch screen. A touch press on the first graphical object, for example by the person supervising the accompanied driving, causes the transmission of a request to activate the electric parking brake to the electric parking brake system, to slow down the vehicle, or even stop it if necessary.

[0035] Accompanied driving mode corresponds to a driving mode in which a learner driver sitting in the driver's seat drives the vehicle under the supervision or guidance of an experienced person sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. An experienced person corresponds, for example, to a person who has held their driving licence for several years, for example for more than 5 years.

[0036] The accompanied driving mode within the meaning of the present invention includes, for example, early learning to drive, supervised driving and supervised driving. Generally speaking, accompanied driving includes any driving mode in which a person learning to drive a vehicle is under the supervision or responsibility of an experienced person (also called an accompanying person) authorized to carry out such supervision.

[0037] [Fig.l] schematically illustrates a communication environment 1 for a vehicle (10), according to a particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0038] [Fig.l] illustrates a vehicle 10, for example a motor vehicle, in a communication environment 1.

[0039] The vehicle 10 corresponds for example to a vehicle with a thermal engine, with electric motor(s) or even a hybrid vehicle with a thermal engine and one or more electric motors. The vehicle 10 thus corresponds for example to a land vehicle comprising a passenger compartment or at least equipped with a display screen, for example an automobile, a truck, a bus, a motorcycle.

[0040] The vehicle 10 advantageously incorporates a display system comprising a touch interface screen and a computer configured to control the display of content(s) of a graphical MMI on the touch screen, as explained in more detail below with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3. The computer corresponds for example to the computer of the infotainment system, called the IVI (In-Vehicle Infotainment) computer of the vehicle 10.

[0041] The vehicle 10 for example carries a communication system configured to communicate with one or more remote devices 111 via an infrastructure of a wireless communication network and / or a mobile communication device 11.

[0042] The remote device 111 corresponds for example to a server of the “cloud” 100 (or “cloud” in French). The wireless communication infrastructure comprises for example a set of communication devices of the cellular network antenna type 110 of the LTE (from the English “Long Term Evolution” or in French “Long Term Evolution”) 4G or 5G type.

[0043] The communication system of the vehicle 10 comprises, for example, one or more communication antennas connected to a telematic control unit, called TCU (from the English “Telematic Control Unit”), itself connected to one or more computers of the on-board system of the vehicle 10. The antenna(s), the TCU unit and the computer(s) form, for example, a multiplexed architecture for the realization of different services useful for the proper functioning of the vehicle 10 and for assisting the driver and / or the passengers of the vehicle 10 in the control of the vehicle 10.The computer(s) and the TCU communicate and exchange data with each other via one or more computer buses, for example a communication bus of the data bus type CAN (from the English "Controller Area Network" or in French "Réseau de contrôles"), CAN FD (from the English "Controller Area Network Flexible Data-Rate" or in French "Réseau de contrôles à débit de données flexible"), FlexRay (according to the ISO 17458 standard) or . Ethernet (according to ISO / IEC 802-3 standard).

[0044] The mobile communication device 11, which corresponds for example to a smartphone, a tablet or even a connected mobile object such as a connected watch, also called a smart watch (from the English “Smartwatch”), advantageously incorporates one or more mobile applications.

[0045] According to a particular exemplary embodiment, a mobile application installed on the mobile communication device 11 is advantageously configured for the management and control of driving modes of the vehicle 10, for example to control the activation or deactivation of an accompanied driving mode, as explained in more detail below with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3. Such a mobile application 11 comprises for example an HMI (Human Machine Interface) configured to allow a user to remotely activate the accompanied driving mode. For this purpose, a request is for example generated and transmitted by the mobile communication device 11, via the mobile application, to the remote data processing device 111, via the wireless communication infrastructure. After processing the request, the device 111 transmits for example to the vehicle 10 a request to activate the accompanied driving mode.

[0046] According to another particular embodiment, the vehicle 10 incorporates one or more AD AS systems (from the English “Advanced Driver-Assistance System” or in French “Advanced Driving Assistance System”), that is to say for example one or more of the following systems according to all possible combinations: - a driver attention control system, known as a DMS system (from the English “Driver Monitoring System” or in French “DMS”), also called a driver attention monitor or driver fatigue warning system, such a system making it possible to monitor the driver’s attention and to alert the latter when drowsiness or a drop in attention is detected; and / or - a cruise control system, for example an adaptive cruise control system, known as an ACC system (from the English “Adaptive Cruise Control”); and / or - an electric parking brake system; and / or - a lane keeping assistance system (also called a lane keeping assistance system), known for example as an LPA (Lane Position Assist) system, an LKA (Lane Keeping Assist) system or an LCA (Lane Centering Assist) system; and / or - an involuntary lane departure warning system, known as the AFIL system; and / or - a traffic sign reading / recognition system, known as the TSR system (from the English “Traffic Sign Recognition”); and / or - a road marking detection and recognition system; and / or - a semi-automatic lane change system, known as a SALC system (from the English “Semi-Automatic Lane Change”); and / or - an active emergency braking system, known as AEB (Advanced Emergency Braking System); and / or - a stability control system, known as the ESP system (from the English “Electronic Stability Program” or in French “Programme de sécurité électronique”), also known as the ESC system (from the English “Electronic Stability Control” or in French “Control électronique de la sécurité”)); and / or - a safety distance warning system, known as the ADS system; and / or - an anti-lock braking system, known as the ABS system.

[0047] The above list is provided for illustration purposes and is not exhaustive.

[0048] [Fig. 2] schematically illustrates a part of the passenger compartment of the vehicle 10, according to a particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0049] The vehicle 10 advantageously incorporates a display system comprising a screen 23 with a touch interface and a computer configured to control the display of content(s) of a graphical MMI on the touch screen 23. The computer corresponds for example to the computer of the infotainment system, called the IVI computer (from the English “In-Vehicle Infotainment” or in French “Infodivertissement embargo”) of the vehicle 10.

[0050] According to a particular embodiment, the display system further comprises a display screen 22 corresponding for example to a transparent or semi-transparent blade 22, for example arranged on top of the dashboard 21 in front of the windshield of the electric vehicle 10. The transparent blade 22 is for example arranged behind the steering wheel 24, according to the point of view of a driver installed in the driver's seat 25, in such a way that the driver sees the content displayed or projected on the transparent blade 22 when the driver is driving the electric vehicle 10. The transparent blade 22 thus corresponds to an element of a so-called head-up display device or system. Such a display system comprises for example one or more projectors integrated for example in the dashboard 21.Such a system for projecting images or graphic content corresponds, for example, to a so-called augmented reality system, called AR (from the English "Augmented Reality"), for example a Head-Up Display system, called VTH or HUD (from the English "Head Up Display" or in French "Display Head High"), which allows the incrustation of virtual objects in the driver's field of vision by projecting the images onto the blade 22, so as to superimpose the virtual objects of the projected images on the real road scene. The projection of the images of the graphic object is for example controlled. by one or more computers of the on-board system of the vehicle 10, for example by the IVI computer. The connection between the computer and the head-up display device corresponds for example to an LVDS type connection (from the English “Low Voltage Differential Signaling” or in French “Low Voltage Differential Transmission”).

[0051] Such a display system comprising the touch screen 23 and the head-up display device 22 is for example provided or configured to reduce the number of screens present in the vehicle 10, making it possible for example to eliminate the display screen(s) called the instrument panel or dashboard and generally arranged in an area 241 behind the steering wheel in the dashboard 21.

[0052] According to a variant, the touch screen 23 (and optionally the VTH system) complements one or more screens arranged in the zone 241.

[0053] The touch screen 23 is advantageously arranged in a part of the passenger compartment of the vehicle 10 so that the information displayed on this screen is accessible both by the driver of the vehicle 10 seated in the driver's seat 25 but also by the passenger seated in the front passenger seat 26. For example, the touch screen 23 is arranged in the middle of the dashboard 21, for example in the extension of a central console of the vehicle 10.

[0054] A process for controlling the vehicle 10, for example by means of commands or information displayed on the screen 23, is advantageously implemented by the vehicle 10, for example by one or more processors of one or more computers of the on-board system of the vehicle 10, for example by the IVI computer.

[0055] According to a variant, the process, or some operations of the process, are implemented by one or more processors of devices connected wirelessly to the vehicle 10, for example one or more processors of the mobile communication device 11 and / or one or more processors of the remote data processing device 111.

[0056] In a first operation, first data representative of activation of a determined driving mode of the vehicle are received, the determined driving mode corresponding to the so-called accompanied driving mode.

[0057] These first data are for example received following an action of a user, for example following the transmission of a user of the mobile communication device 11. The user corresponds for example to the person supervising the learner driver required to drive the vehicle 10 according to the accompanied driving mode.

[0058] According to this example, a request to activate the accompanied driving mode is for example previously generated by a mobile application installed on the device 11 and transmitted via a wireless connection to the remote data processing device 111. The remote device 111 corresponds for example to a server managed and controlled by the vehicle manufacturer 10.

[0059] According to this example, the remote device 111 processes the received request. The processing comprises, for example, the verification of a set of conditions to be fulfilled for the activation of the accompanied driving mode, for example a verification of the compatibility between the vehicle 10 and a control of the vehicle according to the accompanied driving mode. For this purpose, the request transmitted by the device 11 comprises, for example, an identifier of the vehicle 10.

[0060] When the verified condition(s) are met, the remote device transmits for example a request to the vehicle 10 via a wireless connection, such a request comprising the first data and requiring activation of the accompanied driving mode.

[0061] According to an alternative embodiment, the accompanied driving mode is activated following an action by the learner driver or the accompanying person in the vehicle 10, for example pressing a physical button arranged in the passenger compartment of the vehicle 10 or a virtual button displayed on the touch screen 23. This alternative is for example implemented following the activation of the accompanied driving mode by the remote device 111 or independently of a prior activation by the remote device 111.

[0062] In a second operation, the display of a determined content of a human-machine interface, called HMI, associated with the accompanied driving mode is controlled in such a way that this particular content is displayed on the touch screen 23.

[0063] Such determined content corresponds for example to a specific page of an HMI of the infotainment system of the vehicle 10 specific to the accompanied driving mode. Such graphic content advantageously comprises a first graphic object associated with an electric parking brake system of the vehicle and a set of vehicle driving information.

[0064] According to an alternative embodiment, the graphic content further comprises a set of second graphic objects, which comprises one or more second graphic objects. This set of second graphic objects is associated with a system configured for controlling a set of operating parameters of an engine of the vehicle, i.e. for adjusting one or more operating parameters of the engine of the vehicle 10, for example to reduce the power of the engine to a maximum power value, to limit the speed of the vehicle 10, to limit the engine torque, etc.

[0065] The engine operating parameter(s) adjustable via the second graphic object(s) belongs to a set of parameters comprising: - a parameter for controlling a motor supply voltage when the motor corresponds to an electric motor; and / or - a parameter for controlling the motor power supply intensity when the motor corresponds to an electric motor; and / or - an engine fuel supply control parameter when the engine is a combustion engine; and / or - a parameter for controlling a vehicle acceleration curve; and / or - a parameter for controlling a maximum vehicle power; and / or - a parameter for controlling a maximum vehicle speed.

[0066] The set of driving information displayed on the touch screen 23 in the determined content of the HMI comprises, for example, a set of information useful to the accompanying person supervising the learner driver to ensure control and supervision of the vehicle 10. The set of information comprises, for example, all or part of the information below, according to all possible combinations: - information representative of a current vehicle speed; and / or - information representing a maximum speed authorized on a current section of road on which the vehicle is traveling, which maximum speed is for example obtained from a system for detecting and recognizing traffic signs; and / or - information representative of a state of attention of a driver of the vehicle, for example obtained from the DMS system; and / or - information representing a distance separating the vehicle from another vehicle preceding the vehicle on said current section of road, for example obtained from the ADS system or the ACC system; and / or - information representative of each AD AS system in the activated state at a current time, for example a list of all AD AS systems in the active state; and / or - information representing the activation of an AD AS system from a set of specific AD AS systems, for example the display of a message or an icon when activating an AD AS system from a specific list of AD AS systems, for example when the learner driver activates a system from this list; and / or - information representing the activation of a trajectory control system on board the vehicle, for example the display of a message or an icon when activating such a system, for example the ESC system or the SALC system.

[0067] [Fig. 3] illustrates the display of such a determined content of the HMI on the touch screen 23. The determined content of the HMI is for example displayed in a determined zone 31 of the display surface of the screen 23, which part or zone 31 corresponds to all or only part of the display surface of the screen 31.

[0068] According to the example of [Fig.3], the determined content of the HMI dedicated to the accompanied driving mode includes: - a first graphic object 311 corresponds for example to an icon or a witness signaling representing the electric parking brake system of the vehicle 10; - a second graphic object 312 corresponding for example to an icon representing a set of adjustable parameters for controlling the operation or performance of the engine of the vehicle 10; - digital information 313 representing the instantaneous or current value of the speed of the vehicle 10, for example provided by the ASC system; - information 314 representing a maximum authorized speed detected on the portion of road on which the vehicle 10 is traveling, this information taking for example the form of an icon representing a traffic sign indicating the maximum authorized speed, this information 314 being for example obtained from a sign detection and recognition system; and - one or more text zones 315 for displaying messages, for example information or alert messages to alert the driver when AD AS systems are activated, when a fault or problem is encountered by an on-board system of the vehicle 10, to indicate which AD AS systems are active at the current time, etc.

[0069] Of course, the graphic objects and information displayed with the determined content of the HMI on the touch screen are not limited to the examples in [Fig.3].

[0070] In a third operation, second data representative of touch support 320 on the first graphic object 311 are received.

[0071] A touch press 320 on the first graphic object 311 sends information to the computer implementing the process so that the latter implements a function associated with the command corresponding to the touch press.

[0072] The first data representative of the tactile support are for example received via one or more data buses connecting the tactile interface of the screen 23 (or a computer controlling such a tactile interface where appropriate) and the computer implementing the process, for example the IVI computer.

[0073] In a fourth operation, the computer implementing the process transmits a request for activation of the electric parking brake to the system (or the computer) controlling such an electric parking brake. The transmission of this request is advantageously triggered by the reception of the second data.

[0074] Upon receipt of the request, the electric parking brake is activated or actuated to brake the vehicle 10, for example until it comes to a standstill.

[0075] The activation of the electric parking brake is for example maintained as long as the attendant makes a tactile press 320 on the first graphic object 311.

[0076] According to another example, a first tactile press on the first graphic object 311 triggers the braking of the vehicle 10 by activating the parking brake. electric and a second touch (after the first touch) controls the end of activation of the electric parking brake.

[0077] The trajectory of the vehicle 10 is for example controlled by a trajectory control system or by the ESC system of the vehicle 10 to keep the vehicle 10 in its trajectory during actuation of the electric parking brake.

[0078] The braking of the vehicle 10 is for example implemented progressively to gradually slow down the vehicle 10, for example under control of the ESC system upon receipt of the command to activate the electric parking brake. The ESC system communicates for example with the ABS system and / or the ASR anti-skid system (from the English “Anti-Slip Regulation” or in French “anti-skid regulation”) to ensure braking of the vehicle while maintaining the trajectory.

[0079] According to a particular embodiment, the process further comprises the following operations: - receiving third data representing tactile support on one or more second graphic objects of the set of second graphic objects 312 displayed in the determined content of the HMI associated with the accompanied driving mode; - the transmission of a request to adjust at least one operating parameter of the engine of the set of parameters following the reception of the third data upon reception, this request being for example transmitted to a system (or a computer) controlling the engine of the vehicle 10, or controlling several elements or components of the powertrain of the vehicle 10.

[0080] According to this embodiment, one or more second graphic objects 312 are displayed, a touch press on a second graphic object making it possible, for example, to adjust an operating or performance parameter of the engine of the vehicle 10.

[0081] For example, several second graphic objects 312 are displayed, each second graphic object making it possible to set or adjust a particular parameter (for example the maximum level of power implemented by the engine, the maximum speed that the vehicle 10 can reach, the maximum acceleration that the vehicle 10 can reach). For this purpose, each second graphic object comprises for example a “+” zone and a “-” zone to increase or reduce the value of the associated parameter.

[0082] According to another example, a single second graphic object 312 is displayed, the tactile pressure on this single second graphic object 312 triggering the display of complementary content of the HMI with display of other graphic objects configured to adjust the value of several operating or performance parameters of the engine.

[0083] The adjustment of one or more parameters makes it possible, for example, to adjust or modify the mapping of the computer (for example, a VCU (Vehicle Control Unit) type computer controlling the engine). The adjustment of the mapping adjusts, for example, the parameters for supplying energy to the engine (for example, the injection system for a combustion engine or the electrical supply parameters (voltage and / or intensity) for an electric motor) to modify the behavior of the engine and adapt it to the learner driver, for example, by reducing the performance of the engine, i.e., by restricting the engine.

[0084] Such a process allows an attendant to better supervise the driving of a driver being trained. Indeed, the display of driving information on the central screen 23 allows the attendant to access the information displayed for the driver (and not visible from the front passenger seat 26) on a screen behind the steering wheel. Such a process also allows the attendant to activate the electric parking brake to slow down the vehicle 10, in particular when the parking brake actuation lever is arranged in a space in the passenger compartment not accessible from the front passenger seat 26.Finally, when the display of the content of the HMI associated with the accompanied driving mode provides for the display of graphic object(s) to adjust one or more parameters for controlling the operation or performance of the engine, the accompanying driver can adjust the performance of the engine to the driving level or experience of the learner driver.

[0085] [Fig. 4] schematically illustrates a device 4 configured for controlling a vehicle, for example the vehicle 10, according to a particular and non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The device 4 corresponds for example to a device on board the vehicle 10, for example a computer.

[0086] According to an alternative embodiment, the device 4 corresponds to a mobile communication device such as the device 11.
