Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Interior trim part for vehicles and method of manufacturing such a part
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of interior equipment in vehicles, in particular interior trim parts and in particular such trim parts incorporating functional elements performing a particular function. It relates to an interior trim part for a vehicle and a method of manufacturing such a part.
[0002] The trim (or dressing) parts for vehicles include in particular, but are not limited to, dashboards, door panels, central console panels, window pillars, and similar cabinetwork parts.
[0003] Among the trim pieces, some integrate, by extending into the very body of the latter, functional elements ensuring particular functions such as, for example, heating, lighting, detection, measurement, reception, transmission. To enable their activation, these functional elements need to be connected to a source of electrical energy and / or to at least one electronic device itself powered or comprising a source of electrical energy. Such an electronic device makes it possible to transmit information to the functional element and / or to process the information / data generated and emitted by the functional element.
[0004] Trim pieces incorporating such functions thus provide useful services to the occupants (drivers and / or passengers) of the vehicles and improve their comfort. They have an apparent (or exposed) face visible to the occupants of the vehicle and comprise a multi-layer structure comprising at least one support layer not visible to the occupants (also known, for example, as a structural layer or support or substrate) and an appearance layer (also known, for example, as a coating, surface coating, trim layer or decorative layer) comprising said apparent face, and at least one functional element.
[0005] Such a functional element is integrated into the trim piece during its manufacture by being arranged as close as possible to the visible face in order to provide the most effective interaction properties with the interior of the vehicle and its occupants. It comprises a thin (or flat) functional part, i.e. of low thickness, in contact over its entire surface with the internal face of the appearance layer and an elongated connection part forming an extension relative to its functional part allowing the electrical connection of the functional part to a source power supply and / or to an electrical / electronic device. Such an electrical / electronic device makes it possible to transmit information to the functional element and / or to process the information / data generated and emitted by the functional element, i.e. by its functional part.
[0006] The elongated connection portion of the functional element joins and passes through the support layer in order to make accessible and possible the connection between the connection portion, i.e. a connection end (or tip) of the latter and the electrical power source and / or the electrical / electronic device which are located behind the trim piece.
[0007] Trim pieces are also known which further comprise a comfort layer between the appearance layer and the support layer. Such a comfort layer is generally a layer of cellular material formed from an expanded foam, for example of the polyurethane type. The comfort layer is produced by the foaming technique in a foaming mold dedicated to the injection of an expanding liquid foam and in which the support layer and the appearance layer are previously loaded with the functional element(s). The mold comprises a first part called a matrix (hollow part of the mold) in which the appearance layer is loaded and a second part, called a punch, in which the support layer is loaded. The mold is configured to leave a space for receiving the liquid foam between the appearance layer and the support layer. The expanding liquid foam is injected into the receiving space, then expands to form the comfort layer.
[0008] However, the integration of the functional element (or several) into an interior trim part comprising such a comfort layer poses a sealing problem. Indeed, during the injection of the liquid expanding foam into the receiving space of the mold, and in particular during its expansion, foam leaks may occur in and through the passage hole(s) made in the support layer to allow the connection part of the functional element(s) to pass through the support layer for the purpose of their electrical connection by passing through the dedicated passage hole(s).Furthermore, the management of the insertion and passage of the connection part (connector part) of the functional element through the dedicated passage hole in the support layer, due to the fact that the functional element and the support layer and its passage hole in question are positioned on distant parts of the foaming mold, is not easy to manage when closing this mold.
[0009] The present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks by proposing an interior trim piece for a vehicle and a method for producing a trim piece preventing any leakage of material intended to produce the comfort layer, such as an expanding liquid foam, into the passage hole(s) of the support layer, especially when making the interior trim piece.
[0010] For this purpose, the interior trim piece, according to the present invention, for a vehicle, said trim piece comprising, on the one hand, a support layer having an internal face comprising at least one through hole passing through the support layer, an appearance layer having an internal face facing the internal face of the support layer and an external face defining an apparent face of the trim piece and a comfort layer extending between the appearance layer and the support layer and, on the other hand, at least one functional element comprising a functional part applied against the internal face of the appearance layer and an elongated connection part, is characterized in that it further comprises a sealing device comprising at least one sealing ring passing through the comfort layer in the axis of the or one of the through hole(s) to which the sealing ring is thus dedicated and comprising, on the one hand,an internal passage through which the or at least one of the connection part(s) passes, via two openings respectively for entry and exit of the passage, to reach and pass through the support layer by passing through the dedicated passage hole and, on the other hand, two opposite sealing faces, namely a first sealing face comprising the entry opening and being in contact with and / or fixed on the or at least one of the functional part(s) and / or on the internal face of the appearance layer and a second sealing face in contact with and / or fixed on the internal face of the support layer around the dedicated passage hole, the comfort layer extending entirely outside the or each passage hole.
[0011] Such an interior trim piece according to the present invention thus achieves, thanks to the sealing device, a seal between the or each passage hole and the comfort layer, with the effect that the comfort layer extends entirely outside the or each passage hole. The comfort layer therefore also extends outside the internal passage of the or each sealing ring. The sealing device thus makes it possible to prevent, in particular when producing the interior trim piece in a foaming mold, more particularly when injecting a liquid expanding foam into the foaming mold, for example a liquid expanding foam of the polyurethane type, the foam from being introduced, in particular under the effect of its injection and / or its expansion, into the passage hole(s), thus causing foam leaks through the support layer.
[0012] The present invention also relates to a method for producing a trim part according to the present invention, characterized in that it consists of carrying out the following steps, using a foaming mold dedicated to the injection of liquid foam, for example a liquid foam of the polyurethane type, said mold comprising a matrix and a punch in which the support layer is previously loaded:
[0013] i) applying and fixing the functional part of the or each functional element on the inner face of the appearance layer,
[0014] ii) loading the appearance layer into the matrix with its internal face facing the inside of the mold,
[0015] iii) fixing the or each sealing ring, by its first sealing face, on the or each dedicated functional part and / or on the internal face of the appearance layer by inserting the or each dedicated connection part(s) into the internal passage of the or each sealing ring so that the or each connection part(s) passes through the corresponding sealing ring,
[0016] iv) closing the mold M with the support layer, said mold being configured so that, upon closing, the or each sealing ring dedicated to the or one of the through holes, on the one hand, is arranged in the axis of said dedicated through hole to allow the insertion into said dedicated through hole of the dedicated connection part(s) and, on the other hand, comes into contact, by its second sealing face, with the internal face of the support layer around the dedicated through hole,
[0017] v) injecting, into the space separating the appearance layer and the support layer, an expanding foam or injecting, prior to closing the mold between step iii) and step iv), an expanding foam into the matrix. In this step, the expansion of the foam comes into contact with the surface, i.e. the internal face, of the support layer.
[0018] vi) after expansion and cooling of the foam surrounding the sealing ring(s) outside the passage hole(s), open the mold and demold the trim piece.
[0019] The invention will be better understood from the following description, which relates to a preferred embodiment, given as a non-limiting example, and explained with reference to the appended schematic drawings, in which:

[0046] [Fig. 15] is a schematic cross-sectional view of the functional element re presented in [Fig. 14].
[0047] The figures show an interior trim piece for a vehicle, more particularly for a land vehicle. The trim piece comprises:
[0048] - a support layer 1 having an internal face comprising at least one hole 1b of passage crossing the support layer 1,
[0049] - an aspect layer 2 having an internal face 2a facing the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 and an external face 2b defining an apparent face of the trim piece,
[0050] - and a comfort layer 3 extending between the appearance layer 2 and the layer support 1, that is, filling the space available between the latter
[0051] These three layers form a multi-layer structure in the trim piece which has a three-dimensional shape.
[0052] Preferably, the comfort layer 3 is a layer of cellular material formed from an expanded liquid foam, for example of the polyurethane type. The comfort layer 3 is preferably produced by the foaming technique in a foaming mold M dedicated to the injection of an expansive liquid foam P and in which the support layer 1 and the appearance layer 2 are previously loaded, each in one of the matrices M1, M2 of the mold as we will see later in the description of the method. The foaming mold M is configured to leave, in the closed state of the mold M, a receiving space E for the liquid foam between the appearance layer 2 and the support layer 1. The expanding liquid foam is injected into the receiving space E, then will expand to form the comfort layer 3, as we will see later (Figures 3 to 8 illustrating in particular the method).
[0053] Such a piece of trim (or covering) for a vehicle includes, in particular, but not limited to, dashboards, door panels (or doors), central console panels, window pillars, and similar cabinetwork parts.
[0054] Such a trim piece further comprises at least one functional element 4 comprising a functional part 4a applied against the internal face 1a of the appearance layer 1 and an elongated connection part 4b (or connector part). The elongated connection part 4b successively passes through the comfort layer 3 and the layer support 1. Such a functional element 4 that can also be seen in Figures 14 and 15 can provide particular functions such as, for example, heating, lighting, detection, measurement, reception, transmission, or even an electromagnetic induction function. To enable its activation, such a functional element 4 needs to be connected, thanks to its elongated connection part 4b electrically connected to the functional part 4, to a source of electrical energy (not shown) or to at least one electronic device (not shown) itself powered or comprising a source of electrical energy. Such an electronic device makes it possible to transmit information to the functional element 4 and / or to process the information / data generated and emitted by the functional element 4.
[0055] Referring again to Figures 14 and 15, it can be seen that the functional part 4a of a functional element 4 comprises a support 40a, preferably deformable to adapt to the trim piece. The support 40a may be a support 40a, for example, of the textile type (non-woven, felt, woven, knitted), film, skin, plastic layer or metal layer. Such a support 40a, in particular textile, is deformable. The functional part 4a further comprises a functional zone 41a supported by the support 40a and performing for example the aforementioned functions. Preferably the thickness of such a functional element 4 is thin (or flat or small), that is to say it is, preferably, less than 1 mm, more preferably, less than 0.5 mm, even more preferably, between 0.05 and 0.2 mm.
[0056] The elongated connection part 4b of such a functional element 4 may be, for example:
[0057] - (figures 14 and 15) an extended strip 40b of the support 40a of the functional part with 41b conductors,
[0058] - an extension of the conductors from the functional part 4a, more particu its functional area 41a,
[0059] - an extension of the conductors 41b reinforced or carried by an additional support affixed or enveloping.
[0060] Preferably, the functional part 4a of each functional element 4 is coated in the comfort layer 3.
[0061] Such a functional element 4 is known to those skilled in the art and is not described in more detail in the present application.
[0062] The appearance layer 2 may be a coating, for example a textile coating, a skin, a film, a natural decorative layer such as, for example, wood, stone or leather.
[0063] According to the present invention, such an interior trim part further comprises a sealing device comprising at least one ring sealing ring 5 passing through the comfort layer 3 in the axis of the or one of the passage holes 1b to which the sealing ring 5 is thus dedicated.
[0064] Still in accordance with the present invention, the or each sealing ring 5 comprises:
[0065] - an internal passage 52 through which the or at least one of the connection part(s) passes 4b, by two openings respectively of entry and exit of the internal passage 52, to join and pass through the support layer 1 by passing through the dedicated passage hole 1b. Preferably, the internal passage 52 passes through the ring axially,
[0066] - and two opposite sealing faces 50a, 51a, namely a first face sealing face 50a comprising the inlet opening and being in contact with and / or fixed on the or at least one of the functional part(s) 4a and / or on the internal face 2a of the appearance layer 2 and a second sealing face 51a in contact with and / or fixed on the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 around the dedicated passage hole 1b.
[0067] Still in accordance with the present invention, the comfort layer 3 extends entirely outside the or each passage hole 1b.
[0068] The sealing device makes it possible to create a seal between the or each passage hole 1b and the comfort layer 3, with the effect that the comfort layer 3 extends entirely outside the or each passage hole 1b. It is understood that the comfort layer 3 also extends entirely outside the internal passage 52 of the or each sealing ring 5. It thus makes it possible to prevent, in particular during the production of the interior trim part in a foaming mold M, more particularly during the injection of a liquid expanding foam P into the mold M, for example a liquid expanding foam P of the polyurethane type, the foam P from being introduced, in particular under the effect of its injection and / or its expansion, into the passage hole(s) 1b, thereby causing leaks of foam P through the support layer 1.
[0069] Preferably, as can be seen in particular in Figures 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, the outlet opening of the internal passage 52 of the sealing ring 5 may be located beyond the dedicated passage hole 1b. This embodiment makes it possible to ensure more efficient guidance of the or each connection part 4b through and beyond the dedicated passage hole 1b. In an alternative, not illustrated, the outlet opening of the internal passage 52 may be located in the dedicated passage hole 1b.
[0070] In a preferred embodiment, the or each sealing ring 5, as can be seen in Figures 4 to 13, may generally have a tubular shape comprising:
[0071] - a collar 5a projecting radially and comprising the two faces sealing 50a, 51a opposite,
[0072] - and a tubular part 5b comprising the outlet opening of the internal passage 52 of the sealing ring 5.
[0073] In a first embodiment, as can be seen in Figures 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d and 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d the first sealing face 50a and / or the second sealing face 51a is / are each attached to the sealing ring 5. Figures 4 to 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d show an embodiment where both sealing faces 50a, 51a are attached. Figures 10a, 10b, 10c and 10d show a variant where only the first sealing face 50a is attached. Preferably, as can be seen in Figures 4 to 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d, each added sealing face 50a, 51a, i.e. the first sealing face 50a and / or the second sealing face 51a, may be constituted by a compression seal, preferably of toric or annular shape, preferably made from rubber or foam or any other flexible, compressible or elastically deformable material.
[0074] In a second embodiment, as can be seen in Figures 11a, 11b, 11c and 11d, the first sealing face 50a and / or the second sealing face 51a is / are each integrated into the sealing ring 5 by being directly constituted by the material from which at least a part of the sealing ring 5 is manufactured. Furthermore, the material may be elastically deformable (or, in other words, compressible or flexible) to ensure a contact seal by the compression of the material. Thus, in the embodiment of the sealing ring 5 comprising the collar 5a, at least the latter (the collar 5a), which integrates the two sealing faces 50a, 51a, may be made of such an elastically deformable material. This material may be made by foam injection and may preferably be, to a small or not insignificant extent, rigid.
[0075] If we refer again to Figures 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d, in particular to Figures 10c and 10d, we can see that the sealing device can further comprise at least one protrusion 11a, possibly elastically deformable, integrated in the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 by extending around the or one of the passage holes 1b to which the or one of the sealing rings 5 is dedicated. In addition, we can see in [Fig. 10d] that the second sealing face 51a of the sealing ring 5 (dedicated) is in contact with and / or fixed on the corresponding protrusion 11a while ensuring a contact seal. In a variant not shown in the attached figures, the protrusion can be integrated in the sealing ring 5, if necessary in the collar 5a.Thus in this variant not illustrated, the second sealing face 51a of the or at least one of the sealing ring(s) 5 may comprise a protrusion, possibly elastically deformable, in contact with and / or fixed on the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 around the passage hole 1b while ensuring a contact seal. The second sealing face 51a is not necessarily made of an elastically deformable material. Preferably, . the sealing protrusion, whether integrated in the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 or in the second sealing face 50a of the sealing ring 5, where appropriate of its collar 5a, may have a circular or annular shape. When the protrusion 11a is not elastically deformable, it is rigid and makes it possible to produce, by its rigidity and the extra thickness created, a thrust on the other side of the sealing ring 5 making it possible to compress the sealing joint forming the first sealing face 50a. It is understood that the protrusion 11a can be produced, when it is integrated into the support layer 1, from the material constituting the support layer 1, more particularly the internal face 1a of the latter or, when it is integrated into the sealing ring 5 (in its second sealing face 50a), from the material of the sealing ring 5, more particularly from the relevant side of the latter or from the collar 5a.
[0076] Figure 10 thus shows a mixed embodiment, in which the seal at the sealing ring 5 can be ensured, on one side (or at one of the ends) of the sealing ring 5, by the compression of the seal forming the first sealing face 50a under the effect of the thrust due to the presence of the protrusion 11a and on the other side (or at the other end) of the sealing ring 5 by a contact seal, depending on whether the protrusion 11a is integrated in the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 (case of [Fig.l]) or in the sealing ring 5 (case not illustrated), between the protrusion 11a integrated in the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 and the second sealing face 51a of the sealing ring 5 or between the protrusion integrated in the second sealing face 50a of the ring sealing 5 and the inner face 1a of the support layer 1.
[0077] To enable attachment to the appearance and / or support layers 1, 2 and / or to the functional part 4b of the functional element(s) 4, the first sealing face 50a may further be coated with a double-sided adhesive 53 (FIGS. 11a, 11b, 11c, 11d) or coated with an adhesive mass 54 (FIGS. 4 to 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d) so as to enable its attachment to the or at least one of the functional part(s) 4a and / or to the internal face 2a of the appearance layer 2. In addition, the second sealing face 51a may also further be coated with a double-sided adhesive or coated with an adhesive mass so as to enable its attachment to the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 around the dedicated passage hole 1b, where appropriate on the outgrowth lia.
[0078] The present invention also relates to a method for producing a trim piece according to the present invention.
[0079] According to the present invention, the method consists of carrying out the following steps using a foaming mold M dedicated to the injection of liquid foam P, for example a liquid foam P of the polyurethane type, said mold M comprising a first part, called matrix Ml (hollow part of the mold), and a second part, called punch M2, in which (second part) the support layer 1 is previously loaded:
[0080] i) applying and fixing the functional part 4a of the or each functional element 4 on the internal face 2a of the appearance layer 2 ([Fig.2]),
[0081] ii) loading (arranging and holding it in position) the appearance layer 2 into the matrix Ml with its internal face 2a facing the inside of the mold M ([Fig.3]),
[0082] iii) fixing the or each sealing ring 5, by its first sealing face 50a, on the or each dedicated functional part 4a and / or on the internal face 2a of the appearance layer 2 by inserting the dedicated connection part(s) 4b into the internal passage 52 of the sealing ring(s) 5 so that the or each connection part(s) 4b passes through the corresponding sealing ring 5 ([Fig.4]),
[0083] iv) closing the mold M with the support layer 1. The mold M is configured so that, during closing, the or each sealing ring 5 dedicated to the or one of the hole(s) 1b of passage 1b, on the one hand, is arranged in the axis of said dedicated hole 1b of passage to allow the insertion into said dedicated hole 1b of the dedicated connection part(s) 4b and, on the other hand, comes into contact, by its second sealing face 51a, with the internal face 1a of the support layer 1 around the dedicated hole 1b of passage (figures 4 and 5),
[0084] v) injecting, into the space E separating the appearance layer 2 and the support layer 1, an expanding foam P (figures 6 and 7) (so-called closed-mold foaming) or injecting, prior to closing the mold M between step iii) and step iv), an expanding foam P into the matrix Ml (so-called open-mold foaming),
[0085] vi) after expansion and cooling of the foam P surrounding the sealing ring(s) 5 outside the passage hole(s) 1b, open the mold M and demold the trim piece ([Fig.8]).
[0086] Following step vi), the present invention may provide that the protruding parts ([Fig.8]) are then removed, for example, by milling or cutting, by water jet or by laser.
[0087] The matrix M1 of the mold M may comprise at least one cavity M10. The or each cavity M10 is dedicated to the or one of the passage holes 1b and capable and intended to receive, in the closed state of the mold M, the connection end 42b of the connection part(s) 4b passing through the support layer 1 by passing through the dedicated passage hole 1b (figures 6 and 7).
[0088] To carry out step iv), the mold M may comprise a location device, for example in the form of pins, or indexing protrusions. These indexing protrusions may also be used for the precise positioning of the functional element 4 or functional elements 4 by adhering to the appearance layer 2. such as skin. Such a location device may also consist of a laser projection system for displaying marks or references delimiting the location intended for the functional element 4 or functional elements 4.
[0089] Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown in the attached drawings. Modifications remain possible, in particular from the point of view of the constitution of the various elements or by substitution of technical equivalents, without departing from the scope of protection of the invention.
