Description

Title of the invention: Sealing trim for vertical door opening control handle.

[0001] The technical field relates to sealing trims designed to form a seal between a mounting surface and an opening control handle of an opening, assemblies comprising such a trim and a handle mounted on the trim, openings having such an assembly and finally motor vehicles having such an opening.

[0002] Automobile manufacturers are particularly attentive to offering their customers comfortable vehicles for their passengers. Among the essential comfort criteria is, of course, the management of noise generated by the vehicle's movement. A significant source of unwanted noise comes from the noise generated by airflow around the moving vehicle due to local pressure differences. Acoustic characteristics are among those that most influence a customer's judgment of the perceived quality of the vehicle they are test-driving. It is therefore important for automobile manufacturers to improve the acoustic characteristics of their vehicles as much as possible.

[0003] In this context, a new type of door opening control handle, arranged along a vertical axis of the vehicle, is particularly a generator of noise and vibration due to the space existing between the handle and the inner face of the door.

[0004] Thus, there is a need for a solution to reduce or avoid the noise and vibrations generated by a door opening control handle.

[0005] The present invention aims to overcome the problems described above. In this technical context, one objective of the present invention is to provide a sealing gasket that reduces or eliminates noise and vibration generated by the environment of a control handle for opening a door or window.

[0006] To this end, the present invention relates to a sealing gasket designed to equip a motor vehicle opening, the gasket extending between a first face, designed to be positioned in support of a control handle for opening the opening and to at least partially conform to the shape of the handle, and a second opposite face, designed to be positioned in support of a mounting surface for the handle on the opening, the gasket being designed to at least partially fill a space arranged between the handle and the mounting surface, when the handle is assembled on the mounting surface, in order to ensure a seal between the mounting surface and the handle.

[0007] The invention also relates to an assembly comprising a sealing gasket according to the invention and a control handle for opening an opening, the handle being mounted to support the first face of the gasket.

[0008] The invention further relates to a motor vehicle opening comprising an assembly according to the invention mounted in support of a mounting surface of the opening, the trim ensuring a seal between the handle and the mounting surface.

[0009] The invention finally relates to a motor vehicle having at least one opening according to the invention.

[0010] Thus, the sealing gasket allows for the formation of an assembly designed to be mounted on the mounting surface of the opening sash. The gasket according to the invention is thus interposed between the mounting surface of the opening sash and the operating handle of the opening sash. When the assembly is mounted on the sash, the gasket is shaped to fill at least part of the space between the handle and the mounting surface in order to ensure a seal between the mounting surface and the handle. Filling this space eliminates the source of noise and vibration.

[0011] According to one embodiment, the trim comprises at least one cutout passing through the first and second faces to allow a functional part of the handle to pass through the trim. Thus, the trim prevents the functional part of the handle from becoming blocked.

[0012] According to one embodiment of the sealing gasket, the first face forms a housing shaped to accommodate the handle, the housing having at least one rim shaped to extend around a portion of the handle when it is positioned in the housing. Thus, the handle is easily held in the housing of the gasket by means of the rim.

[0013] According to one embodiment, the gasket is formed of a flexible, crushable material between the handle and the mounting surface during handle assembly to ensure a seal. Such a gasket ensures adequate filling of the gap between the handle and the mounting surface. A crushable material is understood to be a material that can be flattened, deformed, or compressed under the effect of pressure or an external force resulting from the gasket assembly. When crushed, such a material nevertheless retains its integrity.

[0014] Advantageously, the sealing gasket is made of a thermoformable material.

[0015] According to one possibility of the opening, the handle is a handle disposed along a vertical axis of the vehicle when the opening is assembled on the vehicle.

[0016] The invention will be better understood upon reading the following detailed description, given solely by way of non-limiting example and made with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

[0017] [Fig-1] [Fig.1] represents a drawing of a sealing gasket according to the invention;

[0018] [Fig.2] [Fig.2] represents a perspective view of an assembly according to the invention formed of a handle mounted on the trim of [Fig.1];

[0019] In these figures, the same references are used to designate the same elements.

[0020] A sealing gasket 1 according to the invention, illustrated in the figures, is designed to be fitted to a door or window of a motor vehicle, not shown. The gasket 1 provides a seal between the door or window and a door or window opening control handle 2, illustrated in [Fig. 2], mounted on the door or window. This seal reduces or eliminates aerodynamic noise and vibrations generated by airflow that could occur between the handle 2 and the door or window if the gasket 1 were not present.

[0021] The trim 1 according to the invention extends, on the one hand, between a first face 3, designed to be positioned against the handle 2 for controlling the opening of the sash and to conform at least partially to the shape of the handle 2, and, on the other hand, a second opposing face 4, designed to be positioned against a mounting surface for the handle 2 on the sash. The trim 1 is designed to fill at least partially a gap between the handle 2 and the mounting surface, when the handle 2 is assembled onto the mounting surface, in order to ensure a seal between the mounting surface and the handle 2.

[0022] The sealing gasket 1 according to the invention is made of a thermoformable material. The material is, for example, flexible, i.e., crushable between the handle 2 and the mounting surface, during the mounting of the handle 2, to ensure sealing.

[0023] As illustrated in [Fig.1], the sealing gasket 1 according to the invention comprises at least one cutout 5, in this case a plurality of cutouts 5, each passing through the first 3 and second 4 faces to allow the passage of a functional part 6 of the handle 2 through the sealing gasket 1.

[0024] In the described example, the first face 3 forms a housing 7 shaped to accommodate the handle 2, the housing 7 having at least one rim 8 shaped to extend around a portion of the handle 2 when it is positioned in the housing 7. Thus, the handle 2, positioned in the housing 7, is held in the housing 7 by the rim 8. Advantageously, the dimensions of the housing 7 require elastic elongation of the rim 8 and / or the first face 3 to accommodate handle 2, thus allowing for proper retention of handle 2 in housing 7.

[0025] The sealing gasket 1 allows for the formation of an assembly 9 according to the invention. In the assembly 9, the handle 2 for controlling the opening of the sash is mounted against the first face 3 of the gasket 1. In this case, the handle 2 is installed in the housing 7, held in place by the rim 8.

[0026] The assembly 9 according to the invention is intended to be mounted on a sash, not shown. When the assembly 9 is mounted on the sash, the second face 4 is mounted against the mounting surface of the sash. The trim 1 then fills at least part of the space between the handle 2 and the mounting surface, so as to ensure adequate sealing. Advantageously, the trim 1 is compressed between the mounting surface and the handle 2.

[0027] Advantageously, in the opening according to the invention, the handle 2 is arranged along a vertical axis of the vehicle.

[0028] Thus, the sealing gasket 1 allows for the formation of an assembly 9 designed to be mounted on the mounting surface of the sash. The gasket 1 is thus interposed between the mounting surface of the sash and the sash control handle 2. The gasket 1 is then shaped to fill at least part of the gap between the handle 2 and the mounting surface when the handle 2 is assembled onto the mounting surface, in order to ensure a seal between the mounting surface and the handle 2. Filling this gap eliminates the sources of noise and vibration usually observed.

[0029] The invention is not limited to the embodiment of the sealing gasket described above, only by way of example, but other embodiments can be designed by a person skilled in the art without departing from the scope and extent of the present invention.
