15603 results about "Measuring instrument" patented technology

A measuring instrument is a device for measuring a physical quantity. In the physical sciences, quality assurance, and engineering, measurement is the activity of obtaining and comparing physical quantities of real-world objects and events. Established standard objects and events are used as units, and the process of measurement gives a number relating the item under study and the referenced unit of measurement. Measuring instruments, and formal test methods which define the instrument's use, are the means by which these relations of numbers are obtained. All measuring instruments are subject to varying degrees of instrument error and measurement uncertainty.

Disposable fiber optic probe

An apparatus for transferring two frequencies of electromagnetic energy to and from a portion of a living body for the purpose of blood oxygen saturation measurements. The two frequencies of electromagnetic energy are transferred to the portion of the living body through a single optical fiber cable (which could be a bundle) to a coupler and then through a short section of optical cable to an optical element adjacent to the portion of the living body. After the two frequencies of electromagnetic energy are transmitted through the portion of the living body they are received by another optical element and transported away from the portion of the living body to a coupler through a short section of optical cable where they may be converted to electrical signals. Alternatively, the two frequencies of electromagnetic energy are carried away from the coupler. The signals from the coupler (whether they are electromagnetic signals or electrical signals) are directed to a measurement instrument, which through an adapter may be a conventional measurement instrument known in the prior art or a measurement instrument specifically designed for use with the signals produced at the coupler. The two short sections of optical cable and the two optical elements adjacent to the portion of the living body and the coupler are combined to form a disposable probe. Alternatively, the disposable probe can include a transducer to convert the transmitted optical energy to electrical signals.

Interface device and method for interfacing instruments to medical procedure simulation systems

An interface device and method for interfacing instruments to a medical procedure simulation system serve to interface peripherals in the form of mock medical instruments to the medical procedure simulation system computer to enable simulation of medical procedures. The interface device includes a housing having a mock bodily region of interest to facilitate insertion of a mock instrument, such as an endoscope tube, into the interface device. The mock bodily region of interest may be pivotable to simulate various patient orientations. The instrument is engaged by a capture mechanism in order to measure rotational and translational motion of the instrument. An actuator is disposed within the interface device to provide force feedback to the instrument. The measured motion is provided to the computer system to reflect instrument motion on the display during the simulation. Alternatively, the interface device may be configured to accommodate instrument assemblies having a plurality of nested instruments (e.g., sheath, catheter and wire), whereby the interface device individually grasps, measures manipulation of and provides force feedback to the nested instruments. In addition, the interface device may be configured to simultaneously accommodate a plurality of independently inserted instruments.

Soil measuring instrument, soil measurement assisting device and method, recorded medium on which a program is recorded, recorded medium on which data is recorded, application amount controller, application amount determining device, method for them, and farm working determination assisting system

A model for determining the type of soil, the water content of a soil, and the soil properties, and a soil measurement data storage portion (60) to store therein measurement data necessary to carry out the model and correlated with specific measurement conditions are provided. The water content is measured by a water content measuring portion (57) on the basis of the measurement data fed from a soil sensor (S). The type of soil is determined by a feature extracting portion (56) and a type-of-soil determining portion (58), and the determined type of soil is sent to a determining portion (59). The determining portion (59) determines corresponding conditions and a model according to the type of soil and water content of the measured place received and sets them in a predetermined processing portion. The soil sensor feeds measurement data meeting the measurement conditions to a measurement information processing portion (55), and the processing portion (55) determines the soil properties according to the determined model.

Device for measuring six-dimensional position poses of object

The invention discloses a device for measuring six-dimensional position poses of an object, which consists of a laser tracking instrument, a receiver, a computing unit and at least one small-sized laser light emitter, wherein the computing unit and the laser tracking instrument are fixedly arranged on the ground surface; the receiver is arranged on a moving object to be measured; the laser tracking instrument and the receiver communicate with the computing unit; the small-sized laser light emitter is arranged on the laser tracking instrument; a horizontal intersection angle and a pitching intersection angle of the laser tracking instrument are controllable, and the laser tracking instrument is provided with a laser distance measuring instrument; and the laser distance measuring instrument and the small-sized laser light emitter project laser light to a projection panel of the receiver respectively. The laser tracking instrument acquires a three-dimensional position of the receiver, and the computing unit solves three-dimensional postures of the receiver corresponding to a fixed coordinate system on the ground surface according to an azimuth angle of the laser tracking instrument and image data of laser faculae on the projection panel. The device can continuously measure moving objects or static objects in a large space, has the advantages of high precision, quick measuring speed, low cost and convenient arrangement, and can replace an expensive laser tracking instrument for measuring the six-dimensional poses.

InactiveUS6381489B1Easily and accurately reproducedHighly precise measurement valueDiagnostics using lightSurgeryLight irradiationMeasuring instrument
A measurement condition setting fixture 2 is secured to a measurement site 1 of a living body prior to the measurement. At the time of measurement, a light irradiation section 3 and a light receiving section 5 of a measuring optical system are respectively attached and secured to a light irradiation section securing section 10 and a light receiving section securing section 11 of the measurement condition setting fixture 2. Thus, the measurement site 1 and the measuring optical system are secured to each other, and desirable measurement conditions can be realized. Moreover, the measurement conditions can be maintained throughout the measurement. After the measurement is completed, the measurement site 1 can be removed from the measuring optical system by detaching the light irradiation section 3 and the light receiving section 5 from the light irradiation section securing section 10 and the light receiving section securing section 11. When the measurement is performed again, the desirable measurement conditions can be reproduced merely by attaching the light irradiation section 3 and the light receiving section 5 to the light irradiation section securing section 10 and the light receiving section securing section 11.

Process for formulating a customized skin care product

The invention relates to a method and a process of determining individual skin structure and function at a point in time for the purpose of determining and formulating skin care products that remedy the deficiencies observed in the skin. Objective and repeatable dermal biometric instrumentation techniques can be used to measure skin moisture content, sebum content, firmness and elasticity properties, skin thickness, transepidermal water loss, skin pH and to perform a photo analysis of the face with UV and visible light. By customizing the skin care products, the individually added active ingredients can be controlled, the diluents can be modified, dermal penetration rates can be controlled, the surfactant systems can be adjusted, and the stability of the product can be controlled. To prevent the loss of active materials in the product, the skin care product is manufactured for an individual consumer and is only sold in a quantity of a three months supply. Additionally, a variety of ingredients can be combined that a mass produced product cannot contain due to stability/compatibility issues. This invention overcomes the limitations in formulating skin products for the mass market by providing a product designed with objective biometric data and created for the specific clinical condition of an individual's skin.
