Abstract

An electric machine 10 comprising a stator 20 having a cylindrical inner channel 30 with a central stator axis 32, and a rotor 50 coaxially located within the cylindrical inner channel of the stator, the rotor and stator being located within a motor housing 70. The machine comprises a first tubular section 80 having a first end 82 of circular cross section and a second end 84 of circular cross section, the first end of the first tubular section located at a first end 72 of the motor housing and the second end 84 of the first tubular section located at a first end 22 of the stator; and a second tubular section 180 having a first end 182 of circular cross section and a second end 184 of circular cross section, the first end of the second tubular section located at a second end 172 of the motor housing and the second end of the second tubular section located at a second end 122 of the stator. The tubular sections may vary in diameter and / or thickness with the profile of the stator and / or rotor varying to match the varying tubular sections. The tubular sections can be used to retain oil in the stator section and away from the rotor for use in a cooling system of the machine.
