Abstract

These guide vanes are installed on the left and right sides of the blade rotation area of a vertical axis wind turbine. When viewed from above, the left guide vane is located on the upwind side of the rotation axis and in the front left section, while the right guide vane is located from the right side to the rear section. A key feature of these guide vanes is that they are positioned back and forth between the left and right sides, allowing them to actively guide wind flowing outside the rotation area, which is difficult for a vertical axis wind turbine to utilize, into the rotation area. This front-to-back relationship changes depending on the direction of rotation of the wind turbine. The guide vanes are attached to rotatable supports on the rotation axis above and below the blade rotation area of the wind turbine, and rotate and function as a single unit. The orientation and size of the two guide vanes must be adjusted and optimized to ensure the entire unit can easily follow the wind direction. The tail vanes for weather vane stabilization shown in the figure are effective in further improving wind direction tracking.
