Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing cosmetic products and a corresponding apparatus. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method and apparatus for manufacturing cosmetic patch products and packaging based on polymer compounds that can be absorbed by the skin and are preferably biocompatible. The cosmetic patch products are composed of fibers, particularly nanofibers, preferably fibers obtained by electrospinning.
Background Art
[0002] Cosmetics directly applied to the skin, such as emulsions, creams, lotions, serums, gels, powders, oils, sunscreen milks, etc., are widely known and are manufactured in various forms that are compatible with the skin and / or absorbed by the skin.
[0003] However, these products are difficult to apply to the skin, require long-term application or long-term massage to be completely absorbed into the dermis, and may leave cosmetic residues on the fingers, hands, or applicators used. There are also generally cosmetics applied by fibrous physical supports, which facilitate application to the skin. Examples include makeup remover wipes impregnated with a special cleansing composition.
[0004] The drawback of this type of cosmetics is that after use, the fibrous physical support itself has no function as a cosmetic, and the packaging must be discarded. Furthermore, known fibrous physical supports have specific surfaces that do not allow for proper transport and release of active ingredients.
[0005] Also, generally, skin cosmetic compositions, such as those applied like creams, or general cosmetic pastes, present the problem of providing the use of functional compounds for the skin and compounds that function only with respect to the structure of the formulation.
[0006] Dermatological functional compounds are substances that are partially or completely absorbed into the skin and exert their effects on the treatment area of the body. Generally, this type of compound represents what is known as an active ingredient. Compounds that function exclusively with respect to the structure of a formulation, whether emulsion, serum, fluid, oleolite, water, or gel, contribute to obtaining a cosmetic composition.
[0007] The effects of compounds that function exclusively on the structure of a formulation can affect the storage method, or the texture of the cosmetic composition before and / or during use, and therefore when spread on the skin being treated. For example, compounds that function exclusively on the structure of a formulation can make the cosmetic composition softer, more fluid, or more viscous; they can gel and prevent the separation of oily compounds from aqueous compounds in an emulsion. Furthermore, compounds that function exclusively on the structure of a formulation can enable the storage of the cosmetic composition, particularly in the presence of water.
[0008] However, a problem arises because many of the compounds used function only in relation to the structure of the formulation, providing no benefit to the skin and, in fact, potentially even worsening the treated skin. Indeed, some compounds that function only in relation to the structure of the formulation remain irrelevant to the skin, or may even cause further dryness, clogged pores, or the development of allergies or dermatitis, for example.
[0009] Among the compounds that function exclusively on the structure of the formulation, for example, silicones, petrolatum (e.g., paraffin), alcohols, fragrances, stabilizers, preservatives, and emulsifiers have been identified. Their main functions are to give the cosmetic composition a "silky effect" texture upon contact with the skin and / or to provide stability to the oily portion, or to increase the viscosity of gel formulations and / or to enhance the emollient and wetting effects of emulsions.
[0010] For example, one problem that arises with these compounds that function solely on the structure of a formulation is a lack of skin compatibility, which hinders skin respiration and can lead to, for example, progressive dryness, clogged pores, and / or greater sensitization.
[0011] Furthermore, the presence of alcohol and preservatives is known to enable the preservation of cosmetic compositions on the one hand, and on the other hand, to increase skin sensitization in the development of dermatitis, allergies, or similar pathologies.
[0012] For example, document KR20160070910 describes a method and apparatus for manufacturing cosmetics. This method provides supplying a sheet-like support along a predetermined path, with three electrospinning apparatuses along the path, and electrospinning three different solutions based on biocompatible polymers onto a series of layers. Next, the electrospun layer is covered with a protective sheet, which is then bonded to the electrospun material layer by compression. The resulting product, though not yet fully packaged, is then wound onto a reel. At least one of the solutions to be electrospinned contains a biocompatible polymer, particularly polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and / or polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and a functional substance, such as a crosslinking agent.
[0013] US6770286 discloses a method and apparatus for manufacturing a cosmetic patch product, but this patch is not electrospinned. In fact, in this document, solutions of two cosmetic substances are deposited on a first sheet supplied from a first reel, and then covered with a second sheet supplied from a second reel. This combination is then compressed and heated in an oven, after which the patch product is separated from the strip thus obtained. The product thus obtained can be sold substantially immediately.
[0014] EP3549758 discloses a sheet-like product that includes a layer made of nanofibers obtained by electrospinning and is in direct contact with a support layer. This document does not disclose a method for packaging the product or an apparatus for carrying out said packaging. [Prior art documents] [Patent Documents]
[0015] [Patent Document 1] KR20160070910 [Patent Document 2] US6770286 [Patent Document 3] EP3549758 [Overview of the project] [Problems that the invention aims to solve]
[0016] One solution to the above-mentioned problem proposed by the applicant is to provide a cosmetic patch product based on a skin-absorbable membrane substrate, which may contain one or more active ingredients. In particular, the membrane substrate is manufactured by electrospinning. Preferably, the cosmetic patch product is packaged to protect its cosmetic properties.
[0017] Currently, there are no solutions in the form of methods or equipment for manufacturing the above-mentioned cosmetics on an industrial scale.
[0018] Therefore, there is a need to complete a method for manufacturing cosmetics and a corresponding apparatus that can overcome at least one of the shortcomings of the prior art. In particular, one objective of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing cosmetics that are already packaged and that maintain the characteristics of the product as they are.
[0019] Another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus that enables the industrial-scale production of already packaged cosmetics. The applicant of the present application has devised, tested, and embodied the present invention in order to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art and obtain these and other objects and advantages.
Means for Solving the Problem
[0020] The present invention is defined and characterized in the independent claims. The dependent claims describe other features of the present invention or modifications to the main inventive concept.
[0021] In line with the above object, the present invention has devised a method for manufacturing cosmetics that overcomes the limitations of the current situation and eliminates the drawbacks existing therein, and has realized an apparatus for manufacturing cosmetics.
[0022] According to some embodiments, there is provided a method for manufacturing cosmetics, which includes the step of electrospinning a composition based on a biocompatible polymer material. This step preferably results in the formation of an electrospinning membrane substrate (electrospun membrane substrate) composed of at least one fiber, more preferably nanofibers. The electrospinning membrane substrate is directly deposited on a support film supplied along a transport path (supply path). The support film can be supplied continuously or intermittently.
[0023] Preferably, the electrospinning step is performed in a controlled atmosphere. Following the electrospinning step, the method provides a step of packaging the obtained electrospinning membrane substrate. In particular, the packaging step provides for obtaining an electrospinning membrane substrate packaged in a package, preferably sealed and more preferably individually. The packaged product thus obtained can be put on the market without further processing.
[0024] According to some embodiments, the packaging step includes a coating step of supplying a coating film along the above transport path, attaching it to the support film, and covering the membrane substrate.
[0025] Subsequently, the packaging step provides a step of joining the support film and the coating film to each other. Advantageously, the two films are joined to form an internal space surrounding the electrospinning substrate. The joining of the support film and the coating film is preferably carried out by heat sealing.
[0026] In a preferred embodiment, the coating film covers the film substrate but is not bonded to it, but only to the support film, so as not to alter or damage the film substrate. In particular, the coating film is not pressed against the film substrate. Preferably, the heat sealing is performed in the area where the support film and the coating film are in contact with each other, that is, in the area where there is no film substrate between them.
[0027] Advantageously, the support film and coating film are heat-sealable. Preferably, they are made of polybutylene succinate adipate PBSA or polylactic acid PLA.
[0028] This method also preferably provides a cutting step aimed at cutting the joint between a support film and a covering film that contain cosmetics. The support film and covering film thus joined form a package containing cosmetics, and the cosmetics are actually packaged.
[0029] The packaging is constructed by joining a support base and a coating layer. The support base is the portion of the support film that has been cut, and the coating layer is the portion of the coating film that has been cut in the cutting step. Advantageously, a composition based on a biocompatible polymer material comprises a first compound to be electrospinned and a spinning aid (spinning promoter). The spinning aid has the function of assisting (promoting) the spinning of the first compound, in particular, the function of establishing an electrospinning method to obtain normal fibers.
[0030] The first compound to be electrospinned is a biocompatible polymer suitable for electrospinning, selected from the group consisting of a first polysaccharide, collagen, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), and their derivatives. It should be noted that the first polysaccharide is selected from among polysaccharides, i.e., any polysaccharide.
[0031] Preferably, the first polysaccharide of the composition is selected from hyaluronic acid (HA), starch, amylose, cellulose, chitosan, glycogen, pectin, and agar.
[0032] The spinning aid is a carrier polymer, which may not contain fillers, and is selected from a group consisting of a second polysaccharide (polysaccharide) that is chemically different from the first polysaccharide, and may also contain poly(oxyethylene)PEO. Preferably, the carrier polymer may also be filler-free and biocompatible. Similar to the first polysaccharide, the second polysaccharide is selected from polysaccharides, that is, it can be any polysaccharide as long as it is chemically different from the first polysaccharide. The phrase "chemically different from the first polysaccharide" means that the first polysaccharide and the second polysaccharide are two molecules with different chemical structures.
[0033] Preferably, the second polysaccharide of the composition is selected from alginic acid and pullulan. Preferably, the electrospinning aid is selected from pullulan and a mixture of alginic acid and poly(oxyethylene). Furthermore, according to some embodiments, the composition includes an active ingredient, which can be selected from, for example, polypeptides.
[0034] One advantage of the method described above is that it allows for the production of cosmetics with a much higher local concentration of hyaluronic acid than that obtained with conventional formulations. With known methods, it is practically impossible to reach high concentrations, even with hyaluronic acid, polysaccharides, collagen, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), and their low molecular weight derivatives, because the viscosity of the product increases too much, preventing it from exceeding 5-10% by weight. The composition of the present invention makes it possible to obtain cosmetics that can be applied to the skin with hyaluronic acid at a concentration of up to 50% by weight.
[0035] According to one embodiment, an apparatus for manufacturing cosmetics is also provided, comprising a station for supplying a support film, an electrospinning station, and a packaging unit. Preferably, the packaging unit comprises a station for supplying a coating film and a station for joining the support film and the coating film together. These stations are arranged in a series along a conveying path for the support film.
[0036] Preferably, the apparatus also includes a cutting station for cutting the joint between the support film and the covering film that enclose the cosmetic. The cutting station can be located downstream of or adjacent to the station that joins the films together. That is, the station that joins the films together can have a device for joining and cutting them.
[0037] The support film and the covering film are advantageously supplied by a suitable supply member, for example, a belt conveyor type. These supply members are preferably positioned at an intermediate location between the supply station and the cutting station corresponding to each film. [Brief explanation of the drawing]
[0038] These and other aspects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of some embodiments given as non-limiting examples with reference to the accompanying drawings. [Figure 1] Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of an apparatus for manufacturing cosmetics according to one embodiment. [Figure 2] Figure 2 is a plan view of a packaged cosmetic product obtained using the apparatus shown in Figure 1. [Modes for carrying out the invention]
[0039] For ease of understanding, the same reference numerals are used in the drawings whenever possible to identify identical common elements. It is understood that elements and characteristics of one embodiment can be conveniently incorporated into other embodiments without further clarification.
[0040] Possible embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail here, one or more of which are shown in the accompanying drawings. Each example is provided for the purpose of describing the present invention and should not be understood as an limitation thereof. For example, one or more characteristics shown or described insofar as they are part of one embodiment can be modified or adopted on or in connection with other embodiments to create another embodiment. The present invention is understood to include all such modifications and variations.
[0041] Before describing these embodiments, it should be made clear that this specification is not limited to its application to the structural and arrangement details of the components described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Other embodiments may be provided and may be obtained or performed in various other ways. It should also be made clear that the expressions and terms used herein are for illustrative purposes only and should not be considered limiting.
[0042] Figure 1 schematically shows an apparatus 10 for manufacturing packaged cosmetics. The apparatus 10 comprises, in order, a station 11 for supplying a support film 21, an electrospinning station 12, a station 13 for supplying a coating film 23, and a station 14 for joining the support film 21 and the coating film 23 together. The station 13 for supplying the coating film 23 and the station 14 for joining the films 21 and 23 together constitute a packaging unit 15. Preferably, the support film 21 and the covering film 23 are made of a heat-sealable material, such as polybutylene succinate adipate PBSA or polylactic acid PLA. These can both be made of the same material or of two different materials.
[0043] The station 11 that supplies the support film 21 preferably has a reel 21A of the support film 21. The support film 21 is fed from the reel 21A along a transport path (feed path), preferably oriented in the feed direction A. In the example shown, this feed direction A is contained in the plane of the sheet, is horizontal, and is oriented to the right. However, other orientations are also possible. Conveniently, the electrospinning station 12 and the packaging unit 15, namely the station 13 that supplies the covering film 23 and the inter-joining station 14, are arranged along the transport path of the support film 21.
[0044] Next, the electrospinning station 12 is equipped with an electrospinning device that includes an electrospinning head 120 having a corresponding dispensing (supplying) member 121, for example, a needle. The electrospinning apparatus also preferably includes a collector 122 made of a conductive material, such as metal, which is positioned facing the delivery member 121. The electrospinning apparatus is configured such that the support film 21 slides in (is inserted) at an intermediate position between the delivery member 121 and the collector 122, and that the electrospinning fibers are directly deposited onto the support film 21 at the exit from the delivery member 121. The support film 21 may slide in contact with the collector 122, or it may slide at a distance from it.
[0045] The electrospinning apparatus 120 is of a known type and includes means for supplying a composition toward the head 120, and a voltage generator connected to the electrospinning head 120 and a metal collector 122 for applying an electric field between the two. This electric field preferably has a potential difference greater than 8 kV.
[0046] In the illustrated example, the electrospinning head 120 is oriented such that the feed member 121 is at the bottom and therefore vertically toward the support film 21 below the head 120. In this way, gravity, in addition to the electric field, is used to further assist in the formation of the electrospun fiber. Alternatively, the electrospinning head 120 and the collector 122 can be arranged horizontally, or the delivery member 121 can be oriented upwards and the collector 122 can be positioned vertically above the electrospinning head 120. In such cases, the electric field must be such that it overcomes gravity.
[0047] To induce the deposition of electrospinning nanofibers in a predetermined area, openings with controlled shapes and sizes are provided, and a mask made of an insulating material such as Teflon can also be used. In this way, material waste can be prevented. Preferably, the electrospinning apparatus is enclosed inside a sealed chamber (not shown in Figure 1 for simplicity's sake) so that the atmosphere inside can be controlled.
[0048] A film-type electrospinning substrate 22 (electrospinned substrate) is manufactured by directly depositing it onto the support film 21 in accordance with the electrospinning station 12. As a result, the electrospinning substrate 22 is transported along the transport path by the support film 21, and then passes through a subsequent station 13 that supplies the covering film 23, and a station 14 that joins the films together. Preferably, the electrospinning substrate 22 is in the form of a nonwoven fabric.
[0049] The station 13 that supplies the covering film 23 conveniently includes a reel 23A from which the covering film 23 is supplied. The reel 23A of the covering film 23 is positioned on the side of the support film 21 on which the electrospinning substrate 22 is deposited. The covering film 23 is then overlapped with the support film 21 and placed on top of it so as to completely cover the electrospinning substrate 22.
[0050] Subsequently, the two overlapping films 21, 23 and the electrospinning substrate 22 are transported together via a film joining station 14. This station conveniently includes a film joining device 24, such as a known type of heat sealer.
[0051] The heat sealer 24 preferably performs longitudinal sealing corresponding to two outer edges of the film of the support 21 and the coating 23, and at least one transverse sealing of the film between the two electrospinning substrates 22. In this context, the longitudinal and transverse directions refer to the feed direction A of the support film 21, as defined above.
[0052] The heat sealer can be configured to act only on the films 21 and 23 that are joined together, and not on the electrospinning substrate 22. For example, as shown in the drawing, it is also possible to form the electrospinning substrate 22 continuously and provide a transverse seal between two consecutive electrospinning substrates 22.
[0053] The apparatus 10 for manufacturing packaged cosmetics also preferably includes a cutting station where the interconnected films 21, 23 are cut. This cutting is performed transversely with respect to the supply direction A, and conveniently between the two electrospinning substrates 22, particularly corresponding to a transverse heat seal. In this way, a sealed cosmetic is obtained between the support film 21 portion and the coating film 23 portion, and these two portions respectively form the support substrate and coating layer of the packaging body 30 for packaging the cosmetic, as shown in Figure 2.
[0054] According to some embodiments, the cutting station is located downstream of the interjoining station 14 and is therefore separate from it. Alternatively, the cutting station can be integrated into the interjoining station 14. In this case, the joining device 24 may also be a cutting device.
[0055] Conveniently, the packaging 30 is composed of four heat seals 31, 32, 33, and 34 corresponding to its four outer edges. The four heat seals 31, 32, 33, and 34 partition the space 35 between them (formed between the support substrate and the coating layer), and the cosmetic is sealed inside. Preferably, the electrospinning substrate 22 is at a distance from all the heat seals 31, 32, 33, and 34, i.e., not in contact with any of them, as schematically shown in Figure 2.
[0056] This cosmetic product advantageously contains at least one active ingredient selected from, for example, peptides, amino acids, antioxidants, and vitamins. The active ingredient can be incorporated into the composition to be electrospun and thus incorporated into the cosmetic product directly from the electrospinning, or incorporated into the film substrate 22 after electrospinning. In this case, it is preferable to provide a special functionalization station, not shown in Figure 1, located between the electrospinning station 12 and the station 13 that supplies the coating film 23.
[0057] According to some embodiments, the apparatus also has a cosmetic stabilization station located along the transport path after the electrospinning station 12 and preferably before the station 13 that supplies the coating film 23. The process of stabilizing the electrospinned fibers is carried out at this station (not shown) for example by heat treatment or by spraying a stabilizing compound, such as a crosslinking agent, especially if the fibers contain alginic acid.
[0058] Preferably, the support film 21 and the covering film 23 are supplied, i.e., moved, by their respective conveying members (supplying members) located at an intermediate position between their respective supply stations 11, 13 and the cutting station. Preferably, these conveying members consist of belt conveyors.
[0059] In another aspect, the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing packaged cosmetics. This method can be carried out by the apparatus 10 described above. This method provides supplying (feeding) a support film 21 along a transport path, which advantageously passes through an electrospinning station 12 and a packaging unit 15.
[0060] According to some embodiments, the packaging unit 15 includes a station 13 for supplying the covering film 23 and a station 14 for joining the support film 21 and the covering film 23 to each other.
[0061] In conjunction with the electrospinning station 12, a step is performed in which a composition based on a biocompatible polymer material is electrospinned, thereby forming at least one electrospinning fiber, preferably a nanofiber. This fiber is deposited directly onto the support film 21, or it may be deposited in accordance with one or more predetermined regions by the use of a special mask of insulating material. Preferably, the electrospinning step is carried out under controlled atmosphere conditions, such as controlled humidity and / or controlled temperature, and may also be carried out in an inert gas atmosphere such as argon or nitrogen.
[0062] According to some embodiments, a composition based on a polymer material comprises a first compound to be electrospinned, which also includes a biocompatible polymer suitable for electrospinning, selected from the group consisting of a first polysaccharide (polysaccharide), collagen, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), and derivatives thereof. It should be noted that the first polysaccharide is selected from among polysaccharides, meaning it can be any polysaccharide. Preferably, the first polysaccharide of the composition is selected from hyaluronic acid (HA), starch, amylose, cellulose, chitosan, glycogen, pectin, and agar.
[0063] According to some embodiments, the first compound to be electrospinned contains hyaluronic acid. This first compound can contain linear hyaluronic acid mixed with crosslinked hyaluronic acid. Preferably, the hyaluronic acid has a molecular weight lower than 10,000 Da (Daltons). This molecular weight is advantageous for the complete absorption of hyaluronic acid in the skin.
[0064] Compositions based on biocompatible polymer materials also include a spinning aid, whose function is to facilitate at least the first spinning step of the first compound. The spinning aid is selected from the group consisting of a second polysaccharide (polysaccharide) that is chemically distinct from the first polysaccharide, and the presence of poly(oxyethylene)PEO is also possible. Advantageously, carrier polymers without fillers are also biocompatible. Similar to the first polysaccharide, the second polysaccharide is selected from polysaccharides, i.e., any polysaccharide as long as it is chemically distinct from the first polysaccharide. Preferably, the second polysaccharide of the composition is selected from alginic acid and pullulan.
[0065] Preferably, the electrospinning aid is selected from pullulan and alginic acid mixed with poly(oxyethylene).
[0066] The cosmetic obtained during the electrospinning step consists of an electrospinning film substrate, which has at least one fiber, preferably a nanofiber, made of the first compound to be electrospinned from the above composition. A nanofiber means a fiber whose diameter is on the order of nanometers, more specifically less than 10 μm.
[0067] Following the electrospinning step, a product packaging step is performed, which includes a coating step, corresponding to a station 13 for supplying the coating film 23. In this coating step, the coating film 23 is placed on the side where the electrospinning substrate 22 formed in the previous electrospinning step is deposited, overlapping with the support film 21. In this way, the coating film 23 completely covers the electrospinning substrate 22.
[0068] Next, corresponding to the inter-joining station 14, there is a step of inter-joining the support film 21 and the covering film 23. In this step, the joining is preferably airtight, creating a space between the two films 21 and 23, within which the electrospinning substrate 22 is enclosed. In other words, the two films 21 and 23 are joined around the electrospinning substrate 22. Preferably, the two films 21 and 23 are joined longitudinally corresponding to their longitudinal ends and transversely corresponding to an intermediate position between two continuous substrates 22.
[0069] As previously described, preferably, the films 21 and 23 are joined together by heat sealing.
[0070] Following or simultaneously with the step of joining films 21 and 23, a step of cutting the film is performed, separating the joined portion of the film, which is located between two transverse joints or seals, and the electrospinning substrate 22 is enclosed within it. Thus, a packaged cosmetic product is obtained.
[0071] This packaged product is ready to be put on the market and / or ready to be stored for a predetermined period of time. This is because the packaging 30 partitions an internal space 35 that is airtightly sealed by seals 31, 32, 33, and 34, and the membrane substrate 22 is housed within it. Advantageously, the packaging is composed of a support film 21 portion and a coating film 23 portion joined together. The support film 21 portion forms a support base, and the coating film 23 portion forms a coating layer.
[0072] If the end user wishes to use the cosmetic product, it is sufficient to remove the coating layer or a portion thereof to expose the electrospinning substrate 22. The electrospinning substrate 22 is already positioned on its support substrate and is therefore ready for use.
[0073] According to some embodiments, the method also includes a step of functionalizing the film substrate 22, which is performed between the electrospinning step and the coating step, corresponding to a functionalization station. This functionalization step provides adding at least one active ingredient, preferably selected from polypeptides, to the electrospinning substrate 22.
[0074] According to some embodiments, the method also includes a step of stabilizing the film substrate 22, preferably performed between the electrospinning step and the coating step, corresponding to a stabilization station. This step provides heat treatment of the film substrate or spraying of a stabilizing compound, which may be a crosslinking agent.
[0075] It is evident that partial or step-by-step modifications and / or additions can be made to the apparatus and methods described herein without departing from the field and scope of the present invention as defined by the claims.
[0076] Furthermore, although the present invention has been described with reference to several specific examples, it will be clear to those skilled in the art that many other equivalent forms of methods and apparatus for manufacturing cosmetics can certainly be achieved, all having the characteristics defined in the claims and therefore all falling within the field of protection defined thereby.
