AI Technical Summary
Existing radiator devices face challenges in preventing forces from the radiator protector from being applied to the radiator when the front bumper of a vehicle collides with an obstacle.
The radiator device incorporates a radiator seal with an airflow blocking portion positioned outside the side edge of the radiator protector, which suppresses the flow of high-temperature air from the radiator's rear to its front, and a cushion attachment portion that absorbs energy during collisions, reducing the likelihood of the radiator protector moving backward and applying force to the radiator.
This configuration effectively minimizes the transmission of external forces from the radiator protector to the radiator during bumper collisions, thereby protecting the radiator from damage.

Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a radiator device. [Background technology]
[0002] Patent Document 1 below discloses a radiator device provided at the front of a vehicle body. This radiator device includes a radiator located rearward of a front cross member in the vehicle longitudinal direction, and a radiator seal that contacts the rear surface of a front bumper provided at the front end of the vehicle and has a portion located forward of the front cross member in the vehicle longitudinal direction.
[0003] The radiator device may include a radiator protector located between the front cross member and the radiator. For example, if a stone on the road kicked up by the vehicle passes through the front bumper opening and enters the space in front of the vehicle, the radiator protector prevents the stone from colliding with the radiator. [0004] [Patent Document 1] Patent Publication No. 2022-93078 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0005] For example, when the front bumper of a vehicle collides with an obstacle, an external force acting on the front bumper may be transmitted from the radiator seal to the radiator protector, and further from the radiator protector to the radiator.
[0006] SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVETION The present invention has been made in consideration of the above circumstances, and has an object to provide a radiator device in which force is unlikely to be applied from a radiator protector to a radiator when a front bumper provided at the front end of a vehicle collides with an obstacle. [Means for solving the problem]
[0007] The radiator device of claim 1 comprises a radiator located rearward of a front cross member provided on a vehicle in a fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle, a radiator protector provided between the front cross member and the radiator, and a radiator seal located between a front bumper provided at the front end of the vehicle and the front cross member, facing a side edge of the radiator protector while forming a gap, and having an airflow obstruction portion on the side that is located outward in the vehicle width direction from the side edge and protrudes rearward.
[0008] The radiator device of claim 1 includes a radiator located behind a front cross member, a radiator protector provided between the front cross member and the radiator, and a radiator seal located between the front bumper and the front cross member. An airflow blocking portion is provided on the side of the radiator seal, and the airflow blocking portion forms a gap with the side edge of the radiator protector. Therefore, the side edge of the radiator protector and the airflow blocking portion of the radiator seal prevent high-temperature air behind the radiator from flowing from the side of the radiator device to the front of the radiator.
[0009] When the front bumper of a vehicle collides with an obstacle, the external force applied to the front bumper acts on the radiator seal, causing the radiator seal to move backward. However, since the airflow blocking portion is located on the outer side of the side edge of the radiator protector in the vehicle width direction, even if the radiator seal moves backward, it is unlikely that the airflow blocking portion will push the side edge of the radiator protector backward. Therefore, it is unlikely that the radiator protector will move backward and apply force to the radiator.
[0010] The radiator device of claim 2 is, in the case of claim 1, the radiator seal comprises a left side portion, a right side portion, an intermediate connection portion located immediately before the front cross member and connecting the left side portion and the right side portion, and a cushion mounting portion located immediately before the side edge portion of the radiator protector and having a cushion material fixed to its rear surface which contacts the front surface of the front cross member, and the distance in the vehicle fore-and-aft direction between the side edge portion and the cushion mounting portion is longer than the distance in the vehicle fore-and-aft direction between the front cross member and the intermediate connection portion.
[0011] The radiator seal of the radiator device of claim 2 includes an intermediate connection portion located immediately in front of the front cross member, and a cushion mounting portion located immediately in front of the side edge portion of the radiator protector and having a cushion material fixed to its rear surface, the cushion material contacting the rear surface of the front cross member. Furthermore, the distance in the vehicle longitudinal direction between the side edge portion and the cushion mounting portion is longer than the distance in the vehicle longitudinal direction between the front cross member and the intermediate connection portion. Therefore, when the radiator seal moves rearward due to the front bumper colliding with an obstacle, the intermediate connection portion contacts the front cross member before the cushion mounting portion contacts the side edge portion of the radiator protector. Therefore, the external force applied to the radiator seal is received by the front cross member. Therefore, it is unlikely that the cushion mounting portion will push the side edge portion of the radiator protector rearward, causing the radiator protector to move rearward and apply force to the radiator.
[0012] The radiator device of claim 3 is the same as claim 2, wherein the radiator seal has a first supported portion supported by the radiator protector below the intermediate connection portion, and a second supported portion supported by the radiator protector above the intermediate connection portion.
[0013] In the radiator device of claim 3, the radiator seal includes a first supported portion supported by the radiator protector below the intermediate connection portion, and a second supported portion supported by the radiator protector above the intermediate connection portion. Therefore, when the intermediate connection portion comes into contact with the front cross member due to the front bumper colliding with an obstacle, a rotational moment about the intermediate connection portion as a rotation center is likely to be applied to at least one of the first supported portion and the second supported portion. Therefore, by breaking at least one of the first supported portion and the second supported portion, the energy generated in the vehicle due to the collision is absorbed. Therefore, an external force applied to the front bumper is less likely to be transmitted to the radiator. Effect of the Invention
[0014] As described above, the radiator device according to the present invention has the excellent effect of preventing force from being applied from the radiator protector to the radiator when the front bumper provided at the front end of the vehicle collides with an obstacle. [Figure 9] 9 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line 9-9 in FIG. 8. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0016] Hereinafter, an embodiment of a radiator device 80 according to the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, an arrow FR indicates the front side in the vehicle longitudinal direction, an arrow LH indicates the left side in the vehicle lateral direction, and an arrow UP indicates the upper side in the vehicle vertical direction.
[0017] As shown in Fig. 1, a resin front bumper 14 (hereinafter referred to as bumper 14) is fixed to the front end of a body 12 of a vehicle 10. The planar shape of the bumper 14 is a substantially arc shape that is substantially parallel to the left-right direction. A bumper (grill) opening 16 is provided in the bumper 14.
[0018] An engine compartment 20, which is a space located immediately behind the bumper 14, is provided in the front part of the vehicle body 12. A metallic front cross member 22 is provided in the engine compartment 20 and located behind the bumper 14 in the front part of the vehicle body 12. The front cross member 22 extends in the left-right direction, and both left and right ends thereof are fixed to left and right side members (not shown). The cross-sectional shape of the front cross member 22 when cut in a cross section perpendicular to the left-right direction is the shape shown in Figure 5. As is clear from Figure 5, the cross-sectional shape of the front cross member 22 is not a straight shape extending in the up-down direction, but a curved shape having a width in the front-to-rear direction. Therefore, the rigidity of the front cross member 22 is higher than when the cross section has a straight shape extending in the up-down direction.
[0019] A radiator support lower (not shown) is provided at the lower end of the front part of the vehicle body 12. The vehicle 10 further includes a drive source and a fan (not shown) provided behind the radiator support lower. The drive source is at least one of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The fan is located immediately in front of the drive source.
[0020] A radiator 25 having a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is placed on the upper surface of the radiator support lower. A fan is located immediately behind the radiator 25. As shown in Fig. 2, the radiator 25 includes a core section 26, a lower tank 27, and an upper tank 28. The core section 26 exchanges heat between high-temperature cooling water flowing inside the radiator 25 and low-temperature air (mainly wind caused by running or wind by a fan). The high-temperature cooling water sent from the drive source to the radiator 25 is cooled when passing through the core section 26. The cooling water flowing inside the drive source is supplied to the lower tank 27 through a pipe 35 (see Fig. 2) that connects the drive source and the lower tank 27 and has an electric pump (not shown), and is supplied from the lower tank 27 to the core section 26. The cooling water that has passed through the core section 26 is returned to the drive source through the upper tank 28 and a pipe 36 (see Fig. 2) provided in the upper tank 28.
[0021] 2, a pair of left and right lower protrusions 29 are provided on the front part of the lower tank 27, and each lower protrusion 29 is provided with a support hole 30 that passes through the lower protrusion 29 in the up-down direction. Furthermore, a pair of left and right locking members 31 are provided on the front surface of the upper tank 28. Each locking member 31 includes a pair of left and right elastic pieces 32 that are elastically deformable, and a locking claw 33 provided on the front end of each elastic piece 32.
[0022] The vehicle 10 is provided with a radiator protector 38 which is an integrally molded resin product shown in FIG. 2. The front shape of the radiator protector 38 is substantially the same as that of the radiator 25. The lower end of the radiator protector 38 is provided with a pair of left and right projections 39 extending downward. The upper end of the radiator protector 38 is provided with a pair of left and right locking holes 40. Furthermore, a large number of slits 38A are provided in the portion of the radiator protector 38 excluding the upper and lower ends, penetrating the radiator protector 38 in the front-rear direction. Furthermore, the left and right sides of the radiator protector 38 are provided with lateral projections 41 each having a curved side shape that protrudes forward.
[0023] As shown in Fig. 2 and Fig. 7, a side wall 42A is provided at a portion located above the side protrusion 41 on both the left and right sides of the radiator protector 38, and a side wall (side edge portion) 43A is provided at a portion located below the side protrusion 41. The side walls 42A and 43A are flat plate-shaped portions perpendicular to the left-right direction. Furthermore, as shown in Fig. 2 and Fig. 7, an upper flange (side edge portion) 42B protruding toward the left is provided at the rear edge portion of the left side wall 42A, and an upper flange 42B protruding toward the right is provided at the front edge portion of the right side wall 42A. The upper flange 42B is a flat plate-shaped portion perpendicular to the front-rear direction. Furthermore, as shown in Fig. 2, Fig. 8, and Fig. 9, a lower flange 43B protruding toward the left is provided at the rear edge portion of the left side wall 43A. Although not shown, a lower flange 43B protruding toward the right is provided at the front edge portion of the right side wall 43A. The lower flange 43B is a flat plate-shaped portion perpendicular to the front-rear direction. Furthermore, lower locking portions 44 are provided at the bottom of both left and right sides of the radiator protector 38, and a pair of upper locking portions 46 are provided at the upper end of the radiator protector 38. Locking holes 45 are provided in the lower locking portions 44, and locking holes 47 are provided in the upper locking portions 46.
[0024] A first cushion material 48 made of urethane and having substantially the same side shape as the side projections 41 is fixed to the front surfaces of the left and right side projections 41 of the radiator protector 38 .
[0025] The left and right projections 39 of the radiator protector 38 are inserted from above into the left and right support holes 30 of the radiator 25, and the left and right locking members 31 of the radiator 25 are press-fitted into the left and right locking holes 40 of the radiator protector 38. That is, in a state in which the pair of elastic pieces 32 are elastically deformed in a direction approaching each other, each locking member 31 is inserted into the corresponding locking hole 40, and each locking claw 33 faces the front surface of the upper end portion of the radiator protector 38. In this manner, the radiator protector 38 is attached to the radiator 25 by utilizing the support holes 30, the locking members 31, the projections 39, and the locking holes 40. The radiator protector 38 is located immediately in front of the radiator 25, and each slit 38A faces the core portion 26 in the front-rear direction. The lower end portion of the radiator 25 integrated with the radiator protector 38 is fixed to the upper surface of the radiator support lower. As a result, as shown in Figures 1 and 4, the radiator 25 and radiator protector 38 are positioned immediately behind the front cross member 22, and the left and right first cushion materials 48 contact the rear surface of the front cross member 22 while elastically deforming.
[0026] The vehicle 10 includes a radiator seal 50, which is an integrally molded resin product shown in Figs. 2 to 5. The radiator seal 50 includes a main body 51, which is a frame having a substantially rectangular front shape, an upper airflow blocking portion (airflow blocking portion) 57, a cushion mounting portion 58, a lower airflow blocking portion (airflow blocking portion) 59, an intermediate connection portion 60, a lower locking member (first supported portion) 61, and an upper locking member (second supported portion) 65. The main body 51 includes a left side portion 52 extending in the vertical direction, a right side portion 53 extending in the vertical direction, an upper side portion 54 connecting upper ends of the left side portion 52 and the right side portion 53 and extending in the left-right direction, and a lower side portion 55 connecting lower ends of the left side portion 52 and the right side portion 53 and extending in the left-right direction. An upper airflow blocking portion 57 protruding rearward is provided at the upper portions of the left side portion 52 and the right side portion 53. Furthermore, a cushion mounting portion 58 that protrudes toward the inside in the vehicle width direction is provided at the rear edge of the upper part of the left side portion 52 and the right side portion 53. The side shape of the cushion mounting portion 58 is a curved shape that protrudes forward. A lower airflow blocking portion 59 that protrudes toward the rear is provided at the lower part of the left side portion 52 and the right side portion 53. As shown in Figures 8 and 9, a rear end portion 59A of the lower airflow blocking portion 59 is formed of a plate-shaped portion that is approximately perpendicular to the front-to-rear direction.
[0027] Furthermore, both ends of an intermediate connection part 60 extending in the left-right direction are connected to the vertical middle parts of the left side part 52 and the right side part 53. The cross-sectional shape of the intermediate connection part 60 when cut at a cross section perpendicular to the left-right direction is the shape shown in Figure 5. As is clear from Figure 5, the cross-sectional shape of the intermediate connection part 60 is not a straight shape extending in the vertical direction, but a curved shape having a width in the front-rear direction. The cross-sectional shape of the intermediate connection part 60 is a shape that roughly follows the cross-sectional shape of the front cross member 22. Therefore, the rigidity of the intermediate connection part 60 is higher than when the cross section has a straight shape extending in the vertical direction.
[0028] 2 and 8, a lower locking member 61 is provided on the lower part of the left side portion 52 and the right side portion 53. Each lower locking member 61 includes a pair of upper and lower elastic pieces 62 that are elastically deformable, and a locking claw 63 provided at the front end of each elastic piece 62. Furthermore, a pair of left and right upper locking members 65 are provided on the rear surface of the upper side portion 54. Each upper locking member 65 includes a pair of left and right elastic pieces 66 that are elastically deformable, and a locking claw 67 provided at the front end of each elastic piece 66.
[0029] 2, a second cushion member 69 made of urethane and having a substantially U-shaped front shape is fixed to the front surfaces of the left side portion 52, the right side portion 53 and the upper side portion 54. Furthermore, a third cushion member (cushion material) 70 made of urethane and having substantially the same side shape as the cushion mounting portions 58 is fixed to the rear surfaces of the left and right cushion mounting portions 58.
[0030] As shown in Fig. 1, the main body 51 of the radiator seal 50 integrated with the second cushion member 69 and the third cushion member 70 is disposed between the bumper 14 and the front cross member 22 so that the intermediate connection portion 60 is located immediately in front of the front cross member 22. Furthermore, the left and right lower locking members 61 are press-fitted from the front into the locking holes 45 of the left and right lower locking portions 44 of the radiator protector 38, respectively. That is, as shown in Fig. 8, in a state in which the pair of elastic pieces 62 are elastically deformed in a direction approaching each other, each lower locking member 61 is inserted into the corresponding locking hole 45, and each locking claw 63 faces the rear surface of the lower locking portion 44. Furthermore, the left and right upper locking members 65 are press-fitted forward into the locking holes 47 of the left and right upper locking portions 46 of the radiator protector 38, respectively. That is, with the pair of elastic pieces 66 elastically deformed in the direction approaching each other, each upper locking member 65 is inserted into the corresponding locking hole 47, and each locking claw 67 faces the rear surface of the upper locking portion 46. In this manner, the radiator seal 50 is attached to the radiator protector 38 by utilizing the lower locking portion 44, the upper locking portion 46, the lower locking member 61 and the upper locking member 65. Furthermore, the left and right third cushion members 70 come into contact with the front surface of the front cross member 22 while elastically deforming. At this time, the rear surface of the intermediate connection portion 60 moves forward away from the front cross member 22. Furthermore, the front surface of the second cushion member 69 comes into contact with the rear surface of the bumper 14 while elastically deforming.
[0031] At this time, as shown in Figures 6 and 7, the left and right upper airflow blocking portions 57 of the radiator seal 50 face each other while forming minute gaps (gaps) with the left and right upper flanges 42B. These minute gaps are preferably 1.0 mm or less. More specifically, as shown in Figure 7, the left upper airflow blocking portion 57 is located slightly to the left of the left upper flange 42B, and the right upper airflow blocking portion 57 is located slightly to the right of the right upper flange 42B.
[0032] At this time, as shown in FIGS. 8 and 9, the rear end portion 59A of the lower airflow blocking portion 59 on the left side of the radiator seal 50 faces the left side wall 43A while forming a minute gap (clearance). This minute gap is preferably 1.0 mm or less. More specifically, as shown in FIG. 9, the rear end portion 59A on the left side is located slightly to the left of the left side wall 43A. Further, a front-rear direction gap CL1 is formed between the rear end portion 59A on the left side and the lower flange 43B on the left side. This gap CL1 is sufficiently larger than the gap CL2 between the rear end portion 59A on the left side and the left side wall 43A. Although not shown, the rear end portion 59A on the right side is located slightly to the right of the right side wall 43A. That is, the rear end portion 59A on the right side and the right side wall 43A face each other while forming a minute gap (clearance). This minute gap is preferably 1.0 mm or less. Further, a front-rear direction gap CL1 is formed between the rear end portion 59A on the right side and the lower flange 43B on the right side. This gap CL1 is sufficiently larger than the gap CL2 between the rear end portion 59A on the right side and the right side wall 43A. Further, as shown in FIG. 7, at this time, the front-rear direction distance between the upper flange 42B on the left side and the upper part of the cushion mounting portion 58 is defined as L1, and the front-rear direction distance between the upper flange 42B on the right side and the upper part of the cushion mounting portion 58 is defined as L2. Also, as shown in FIG. 5, the front-rear direction distance between the rear surface of the intermediate connecting portion 60 and the front surface of the front cross member 22 at this time is defined as L3. In this case, L3 < L1, L3 < L2, L3 < gap CL1 and L3 < gap CL2.
[0033] Among the configurations described above, the radiator 25, the radiator protector 38, the first cushion material 48, the radiator seal 50, the second cushion member 69, and the third cushion member 70 are components of the radiator device 80.
[0034] (Operation and Effect) Next, the operation and effect of the present embodiment will be described.
[0035] When the drive source operates, heat generated in the drive source is absorbed by the cooling water, and the heated cooling water is sent from the drive source to the lower tank 27 via the piping 35. This cooling water is supplied from the lower tank 27 to the core portion 26. The core portion 26 exchanges heat while the cooling water flows from the lower end to the upper end of the core portion 26. Therefore, when the vehicle 10 is traveling forward, the heat generated in the core portion 26 is directed toward the rear of the radiator 25 by the traveling wind passing through the bumper opening 16 toward the core portion 26. In addition, when the fan rotates while the vehicle 10 is stopped, the negative pressure generated by the fan causes the heat generated in the core portion 26 to be directed toward the rear of the radiator 25. Therefore, when the core portion 26 exchanges heat, high-temperature air may be retained in the rear area of the radiator 25.
[0036] A portion of the high-temperature air in the rear region of the radiator 25 may attempt to flow from the left and right sides of the radiator device 80 toward the front of the radiator 25. However, in this embodiment, the radiator device 80 has an upper flange 42B and a lower flange 43B on both left and right sides of the radiator protector 38, and an upper airflow blocking portion 57 that faces the upper flange 42B while forming a minute gap and a lower airflow blocking portion 59 that faces the side wall 43A while forming a minute gap are provided on both left and right sides of the radiator seal 50. Furthermore, the first cushion material 48 comes into contact with the rear surface of the front cross member 22 while elastically deforming, and the third cushion member 70 comes into contact with the front surface of the front cross member 22 while elastically deforming. Therefore, the hot air behind the radiator 25 is prevented from flowing from both the left and right sides of the radiator device 80 to the front of the radiator 25 by the upper flange 42B, the lower flange 43B, the upper airflow obstruction portion 57, the lower airflow obstruction portion 59, the first cushion material 48 and the third cushion member 70.
[0037] Incidentally, the bumper 14 of the vehicle 10 traveling at a low speed may collide with an obstacle (e.g., a vehicle) located in front of the vehicle 10. In this case, an external force applied to the bumper 14 from the obstacle may reach the radiator seal 50 via the second cushion member 69, causing the radiator seal 50 to move rearward relative to the radiator 25. However, the left upper airflow blocking portion 57 is located to the left of the left upper flange 42B, and the right upper airflow blocking portion 57 is located to the right of the right upper flange 42B. Furthermore, the rear end portion 59A of the left lower airflow blocking portion 59 is located to the left of the left side wall 43A, and the rear end portion 59A of the right lower airflow blocking portion 59 is located to the right of the right side wall 43A. Therefore, even if the radiator seal 50 moves rearward relative to the radiator 25, it is unlikely that the upper airflow blocking portion 57 will push the upper flange 42B rearward and that the lower airflow blocking portion 59 will push the side wall 43A rearward. Therefore, it is unlikely that the radiator protector 38 will move rearward and apply a force to the radiator 25.
[0038] Furthermore, the longitudinal distance L3 between the rear surface of the intermediate connection portion 60 and the front surface of the front cross member 22 is smaller than the longitudinal distances L1, L2 and the gaps CL1, CL2 described above. Therefore, when the radiator seal 50 moves rearward relative to the radiator 25, the intermediate connection portion 60 comes into contact with the front cross member 22 before the cushion mounting portion 58 comes into contact with the upper flange 42B and before the rear end portion 59A of the side airflow blocking portion 59 comes into contact with the lower flange 43B. Therefore, the external force acting on the radiator seal 50 is received by the front cross member 22, which is made of metal and has high rigidity. Therefore, it is unlikely that the radiator protector 38 will move rearward and exert a force on the radiator 25 due to the cushion mounting portion 58 pushing the upper flange 42B rearward or the side airflow blocking portion 59 pushing the lower flange 43B rearward.
[0039] Furthermore, since the cross-sectional shape of the intermediate connection part 60 is not a straight shape extending in the up-down direction but a curved shape having a width in the front-rear direction, the rigidity of the intermediate connection part 60 is high. Therefore, when the intermediate connection part 60 comes into contact with the front cross member 22 and deforms, a part of the energy generated in the vehicle 10 due to the collision is absorbed. Therefore, the energy generated in the vehicle 10 due to the collision is less likely to be transmitted to the radiator 25 than when the cross-sectional shape of the intermediate connection part 60 is a straight shape extending in the up-down direction.
[0040] Further, the radiator seal 50 includes a lower locking member 61 supported by the lower locking portion 44 of the radiator protector 38 below the intermediate connection portion 60, and an upper locking member 65 supported by the upper locking portion 46 above the intermediate connection portion 60. Therefore, when the intermediate connection portion 60 comes into contact with the front cross member 22 due to the bumper 14 of the vehicle 10 colliding with an obstacle, a rotational moment about the intermediate connection portion 60 is likely to act on at least one of the lower locking member 61 and the upper locking member 65. Therefore, by breaking at least one of the lower locking member 61 and the upper locking member 65, the energy generated in the vehicle 10 due to the collision is likely to be absorbed. Therefore, this energy is not easily transmitted to the radiator 25.
[0041] Although the radiator device 80 according to the embodiment has been described above, the design thereof can be appropriately modified without departing from the gist of the present invention.
[0042] For example, the structure of the supported portion provided on the radiator seal 50 and the structure of the portion supporting the supported portion provided on the radiator protector 38 are not limited to those described above. For example, the radiator protector 38 may have a portion equivalent to the lower protrusion 29 (support hole 30) instead of the lower locking portion 44 (locking hole 45), and the radiator seal 50 may have a portion equivalent to the protrusion 39 instead of the lower locking member 61.
