Description

[Technical field]

[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority based on Korean Patent Application No. 10-2021-0176561 dated December 10, 2021 and Korean Patent Application No. 10-2021-0176579 dated December 10, 2021, and all contents disclosed in the documents of said Korean patent applications are incorporated herein by reference.

[0002] The present invention relates to a surface energy measuring mechanism capable of easily and quickly measuring the surface energy of a metal foil surface, and a surface energy measuring method capable of accurately measuring the surface energy of a metal foil using a surface energy measuring mechanism capable of uniformly applying a measurement reagent to the surface of the metal foil. [Background technology]

[0003] As technological development and demand for mobile devices such as smartphones, notebook PCs, and digital cameras increases, research into rechargeable secondary battery technology is being actively conducted. Secondary batteries are an alternative energy source to fossil fuels that generate air pollutants, and are used in electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (P-HEVs), and energy storage devices (ESSs).

[0004] Currently widely used types of secondary batteries include lithium ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, nickel cadmium batteries, nickel metal hydride batteries, and nickel zinc batteries.

[0005] Such secondary batteries are generally formed by housing an electrode assembly, an electrolyte, and the like in a battery case.

[0006] Here, the electrode assembly may be, but is not limited to, a jelly roll type electrode assembly having a structure in which a separator is interposed between long sheet-like positive and negative electrodes and then wound up; a stack type electrode assembly having a structure in which rectangular positive and negative electrodes are stacked with a separator interposed therebetween; a stack-folding type electrode assembly in which unit cells are wound up with a long separator film; or a lamination-stack type electrode assembly in which battery cells are stacked with a separator interposed therebetween and attached to each other.

[0007] Meanwhile, in a method for manufacturing an electrode for such a secondary battery, a slurry prepared by dispersing an active material, a conductive material, a binder, etc. in a solvent is applied onto an electrode current collector, followed by drying.

[0008] Metal foils are generally used as electrode current collectors, and aluminum foil is commonly used as a positive electrode current collector and copper foil is commonly used as a negative electrode current collector.

[0009] As described above, the metal foil is manufactured by a cold rolling method so that it can have the necessary characteristics as a current collector. Therefore, even if the rolling oil is removed from the process after rolling, some of the rolling oil remains on the surface of the metal foil.

[0010] If such rolling oil remains on the surface of the metal foil to a certain level or more, the coating properties may be reduced in the process of applying the slurry onto the electrode current collector.

[0011] Therefore, it is necessary to control the quality of the electrode current collector by measuring the surface energy of the electrode current collector before the coating process and maintaining the surface energy at a constant level.

[0012] However, as shown in FIG. 1, the conventional surface energy measurement method of Patent Document 1, in which a liquid is dropped on the surface of a measurement target to measure the contact angle, can measure an accurate surface energy value, but has a problem that it requires complicated equipment as in Patent Document 1 and is not suitable for easy and quick measurement on a production line.

[0013] Therefore, as shown in FIG. 2, a method is used in which a measuring reagent 20 is applied in the form of a long line on the surface of a metal foil 30 using a cotton swab 10 or the like, and the degree to which the line breaks is checked to determine whether the surface energy of the metal foil 30 meets the desired level.

[0014] However, while it is important for the accuracy of the measurement that the amount of the measurement reagent applied and the thickness of the line are kept uniform, such a conventional measurement method has a problem that the amount of the measurement reagent 20 applied and the thickness of the line can vary depending on the shape of the cotton swab 10, the angle between the cotton swab 10 and the surface of the metal foil 30, the force applied to the cotton swab 10, etc.

[0015] In particular, since the measurer draws a line directly on the surface of the metal foil 30 using the cotton swab 10 to which the test reagent 20 has been applied, it is difficult to maintain a uniform pressure on the cotton swab 10.

[0016] Alternatively, a dyne pen may be used instead of a cotton swab. However, when using a dyne pen to apply the test reagent, there is a problem that the amount of test reagent applied is not uniform. Also, the dyne pen can become contaminated, making it difficult to use repeatedly, which can lead to increased costs. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0044] In this application, the terms "comprise", "have", "include" and the like are intended to specify the presence of features, numbers, steps, components, parts or combinations thereof described in the specification, but should be understood as not precluding the possibility of the presence or addition of one or more other features, numbers, steps, operations, components, parts or combinations thereof.

[0045] In addition, the same reference numerals are used throughout the drawings for parts having similar functions and actions. Throughout the specification, when a part is said to be connected to another part, this includes not only the case where the part is directly connected to another part, but also the case where the part is indirectly connected via another element between the two parts. In addition, when a part includes a certain component, it does not mean that the other component is excluded, but that the part may further include the other component, unless otherwise specified.

[0046] The surface energy measuring mechanism according to the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0047] FIG. 3 is a diagram showing a schematic diagram of a surface energy measuring mechanism according to an embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of the application portion within the dotted line in FIG.

[0048] The surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 of the present invention will be described with reference to Figures 3 and 4. The surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 of the present invention broadly includes a body section 100 for storing and discharging a measurement reagent, and an application section 200 for uniformly applying the measurement reagent discharged from the body section to the surface of a metal foil whose surface energy is to be measured.

[0049] First, the body 100 includes a reagent storage section 110 , a reagent inlet 120 , a reagent outlet 130 , a discharge amount adjusting section 140 , and a discharge pipe 150 .

[0050] The reagent storage section 110 is a section for storing a certain amount of a measurement reagent, and since it can store a sufficient amount of the measurement reagent, it is possible to measure the surface energy of the metal foil without supplying additional measurement reagent.

[0051] This eliminates the inconvenience of having to frequently inject reagent, unlike when using existing cotton swabs, and the reagent storage unit 110 is made of a transparent material that allows the measurement reagent inside to be checked, and the remaining amount of measurement reagent can be immediately checked by displaying the scale.

[0052] The material of the reagent storage section 110 can be appropriately selected so long as it has a transparency sufficient to allow confirmation of the remaining amount of the test reagent inside and is non-reactive with the test reagent stored inside.

[0053] Furthermore, the shape of the reagent storage section 110 may be either a cylindrical shape or a polygonal prism shape, and the thickness is not particularly limited, but may be appropriately selected within a range that allows the measurer to use it easily.

[0054] A reagent inlet 120 for injecting a measurement reagent into the reagent storage section 110 is provided at the top of the reagent storage section 110, and the reagent inlet 120 can be opened and closed.

[0055] In addition, a reagent outlet 130 for discharging the measurement reagent from the reagent storage section 110 is provided at the bottom of the reagent storage section 110, and a discharge amount adjustment section 140 is connected to the reagent outlet 130 for adjusting the amount of the measurement reagent discharged.

[0056] The discharge amount adjusting unit 140 may be any of various known valves and other devices, and is preferably a dial gauge that can easily adjust the discharge amount.

[0057] Further, a discharge pipe 150 is provided below the reagent discharge port 130 to guide the measurement reagent discharged from the reagent discharge port 130 to a desired position in the application section 200 .

[0058] Meanwhile, the application part 200 includes a connecting part 210 , a cover part 220 , a stopper 230 , and a cotton ball 240 .

[0059] The connecting part 210 is connected to the body part 100 at its upper part, and is provided with a stopper 230 and a cotton ball 240 at its lower part.

[0060] The cover part 220 is configured to surround the connection part 210, the stopper 230 and the cotton ball 240, and has a wider upper part connected to the body part 100 and a narrower lower part where the cotton ball 240 is located.

[0061] The cover part 220 having such a shape has a slanted side, and the outlet pipe 150 may be configured such that the end from which the measurement reagent is discharged contacts the inner wall surface of the cover part 220 .

[0062] In this case, the test reagent discharged from the discharge pipe 150 flows along the inner wall surface of the cover part 220 and soaks into the cotton ball 240 at the bottom.

[0063] Therefore, when the discharge amount of the measurement reagent is appropriately adjusted using the discharge amount adjustment unit 140 and the cotton ball 240 is brought into contact with the metal foil to measure the surface energy, a constant amount of the measurement reagent can be continuously supplied to the cotton ball 240, thereby increasing the accuracy of the measurement of the surface energy.

[0064] The cotton ball 240 is a ball-shaped cotton cloth or cotton that can be compressed by pressure and is characterized by being easily soaked in a solution. It can be appropriately selected from various known cotton balls 240.

[0065] FIG. 5 is a diagram showing a shape of the surface energy measuring mechanism according to one embodiment of the present invention after the cotton ball has been removed.

[0066] In addition, in the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 of the present invention, the cotton ball 240 can be easily removed and replaced after use, as shown in FIG. 5, and contamination by rolling oil remaining on the metal foil can be prevented.

[0067] FIG. 6 is a diagram showing the behavior of a stopper before (a) and after (b) pressing of a surface energy measuring mechanism according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0068] The stopper 230 of the present invention will be described with reference to Figures 3, 4 and 6. The stopper 230 is for controlling the amount of test reagent applied by adjusting the pressure applied to the cotton ball 240, and includes a spring 231 for adjusting the pressure applied to the cotton ball 240, a fixing part 232 located on the upper part of the spring 231 for fixing the spring 231, and a pressing part 233 located on the lower part of the spring 231 and in contact with the cotton ball 240.

[0069] Meanwhile, the amount of the test reagent applied to the surface of the metal foil of the cotton ball 240 can vary depending on the pressure applied, and it is therefore necessary to control this.

[0070] Therefore, if the stopper 230 is provided on the top of the cotton ball 240, even if the pressure applied to the cotton ball 240 for measuring the surface energy exceeds a certain level, the stopper 230 can absorb a portion of the pressure, thereby preventing too much pressure from being applied to the cotton ball 240.

[0071] That is, when the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 is placed on the metal foil and pressure is applied to the cotton ball 240, the cotton ball 240 generates a height difference h1 after the pressure is applied (b) compared to before the pressure is applied (a), as shown in FIG. 6.

[0072] If pressure above a certain value is applied to the cotton ball 240, the pressure is transmitted to the stopper 230, which partially absorbs the pressure and compresses the spring (h2), thereby preventing too much pressure from being applied to the cotton ball 240 (h1>h2).

[0073] Such a stopper 230 can be manufactured by appropriately selecting the elasticity of the spring 231 so as to match a desired pressure range.

[0074] FIG. 7 is a diagram illustrating a method for measuring surface energy according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0075] Referring to the method for measuring the surface energy of a metal foil using the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 of the present invention shown in FIG. 7 and described above, the surface energy measuring method includes the steps of a) positioning the metal foil on the measuring table 3000, b) injecting a measuring reagent into the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000, c) mounting the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 on the jig 2000, d) moving the measuring table 3000 to position the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 on the surface of the metal foil, and e) moving the measuring table 3000 to apply the measuring reagent in a line shape to the surface of the metal foil.

[0076] Also, the method further includes a step of applying a test reagent to the surface of the metal foil, and then sensing the shape of the line of the test reagent with a camera 4000 to determine whether the test reagent is good or bad.

[0077] The quality can be judged based on the degree of line breakage sensed by a camera.

[0078] For example, if the line coated with the test reagent breaks within a certain period of time, the product is judged to be defective.

[0079] As the camera 4000 for sensing the line on which the measurement reagent is applied, various known cameras can be used, and one example is a CCD camera.

[0080] Meanwhile, the jig 2000 on which the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 is mounted is equipped with a push pull gauge, so that it can work in conjunction with the measurement table 3000 to provide a desired pressure between the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 and the metal foil.

[0081] The measurement table 3000 on which the metal foil is seated is movable in the front-rear and left-right directions as well as in the horizontal and vertical directions.

[0082] In particular, the measurement table 3000 is preferably capable of fine movement in the order of mm to accurately measure the surface energy, and for this purpose, a servo motor or the like may be provided as a driving means.

[0083] Such a measurement table 3000 can be linked with the tension and compression gauge of the jig 2000 to precisely control the vertical movement, thereby controlling the pressure between the surface energy measurement mechanism 1000 and the metal foil to a set value.

[0084] In addition, the measuring device can automatically move at a uniform speed in the horizontal direction according to a preset value, so that the measuring reagent can be uniformly applied to the surface of the metal foil.

[0085] Meanwhile, metal foils used in mass production have a large surface area and there may be deviations in surface energy depending on the position. Therefore, in order to measure the surface energy of a metal foil, it is preferable to draw two or more lines using a measuring reagent at different positions on the metal foil.

[0086] That is, in the above-mentioned measuring method, steps d) and e) are repeated to draw a line on the metal foil and sense the line to judge whether it is good or bad.

[0087] Meanwhile, the cotton ball 240 of the surface energy measuring mechanism 1000 can be replaced as needed in consideration of contamination caused by rolling oil remaining on the metal foil, and can be replaced after the measurement for one metal foil is completed, but is not limited to this.

[0088] The measuring reagent used for measuring the surface energy may be a known measuring reagent, which may be used alone or in combination of two or more kinds in an appropriate ratio depending on the desired Dyne index.

[0089] For example, when measuring the surface energy of aluminum (Al) foil used as a positive electrode current collector, a measuring reagent may be used in which ethylene glycol monoethyl ether and formamide are mixed in an appropriate ratio.

[0090] The mixing ratio of the two measurement reagents can be selected based on the required dyne index by referring to known ratios.

[0091] The metal foil determined to be non-defective in the surface energy measurement step can be used as an electrode current collector.

[0092] That is, a slurry containing an active material may be applied onto a metal foil to manufacture an electrode, and a battery cell may be manufactured using the electrode thus manufactured.

[0093] The battery cell manufactured in this manner can be manufactured into a module or pack form and used as a power source for a device.

[0094] Although certain parts of the contents of the present invention have been described in detail above, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that such specific techniques are merely preferred embodiments and do not limit the scope of the present invention. Various changes and modifications are possible within the scope of the scope and technical ideas of the present invention, and it goes without saying that such changes and modifications are also included in the scope of the attached claims.
