Abstract
A method for operating an acetylene hydrogenation unit of a steam cracking system that integrates a fluid catalytic dehydrogenation (FCDh) effluent from a fluid catalytic dehydrogenation (FCDh) system may include separating cracked gas from the steam cracking system into at least a hydrogenation feedstock containing at least acetylene, CO, and hydrogen, and introducing the FCDh effluent into a separation system, combining the FCDh effluent with cracked gas upstream of the separation system, or both. The method may include hydrogenating acetylene in the hydrogenation feedstock. Elevated CO concentrations in the hydrogenation feedstock resulting from the FCDh effluent may reduce the reaction rate of acetylene hydrogenation. The acetylene hydrogenation unit may be operated at an elevated temperature relative to normal operating temperatures when a portion of the FCDh effluent is not integrated, such that the concentration of acetylene in the hydrogenation effluent is below a threshold acetylene concentration.
