[0010] The lid according to the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the drawings. The lid according to the present invention will be described as a lid used for a container (cup) for holding various beverages, such as a coffee cup. However, the lid is not limited to a lid for a container for holding beverages, and can also be applied to a container for holding food products other than beverages. The side wall 3 is formed into a cylindrical or annular shape by joining both ends of a paper-based material. The side wall 3 has an upper wall 5 and a lower wall 6. The side wall 3 is tapered from the upper end 3b toward the lower end 3c. Here, the term "tapered" means that the outer wall 3a of the side wall 3 is tapered from the upper end 3b to the lower end 3c. This "tapered" shape includes a shape in which the outer wall 3a of the side wall 3 gradually decreases in size from the upper end 3b to the lower end 3c, as well as a shape in which the outer wall 3a of the side wall 3 has a bulge or protrusion that increases in size, or a shape in which the outer wall 3a of the side wall 3 is tapered overall even if such a bulge or protrusion is formed. The rising portion 4 is formed on the periphery of the top surface 2a and is formed to rise upward from the periphery of the top surface 2a. The top surface portion 2a and the rising portion 4 may be formed separately, but are preferably formed integrally from the viewpoints of manufacturing efficiency and airtightness of the lid body 1. When the top surface portion 2a and the rising portion 4 of the canopy portion 2 are formed integrally, any conventionally known method can be used, but from the viewpoint of ease of forming the canopy portion 2, it is preferable to form the top surface portion 2a and the rising portion 4 by bending. In other words, the rising portion 4 is preferably formed by bending the periphery of the top surface portion 2a.
[0014] The canopy 2 and the side wall 3 are integrated by joining the outer surface 4b of the rising portion 4 of the canopy 2 to the inner surface 5a of the upper wall 5 of the side wall 3. As shown in FIG. 9 , an engagement portion 7 is formed on the inner surface 6a of the lower wall 6 of the side wall 3, shaped to engage with a rim 103 (a curled portion in FIG. 9 ) provided on a mouth 102 formed on a container 101. This provides excellent stacking properties when multiple lids 1 are stacked together, as shown in FIG. 11 . That is, by stacking multiple lids 1 one above the other, the lid 1 according to this embodiment can be stored and transported in a small space, reducing storage and transport costs. The side wall 3 is not limited to a case in which the entire side surface of the outer wall 3a is inclined; only a portion of the side wall 3, such as the upper end 3b or the lower end 3c, may be inclined. Furthermore, the upper end 3b and the lower end 3c of the side wall 3 may be formed to have different inclination angles.
