Abstract
Description
Secondary battery separator lamination device and method
[0001] The present invention relates to a secondary battery separator lamination device and method, and more particularly, to a device and method for laminating a separator (separation membrane) between electrodes when manufacturing a secondary battery electrode.
[0002] A battery contains a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an electrolyte, and generates electrical energy through a chemical reaction. It can be divided into a primary battery that is used for disposable purposes and a secondary battery that can be recharged and discharged, allowing for repeated use.
[0003] The use of secondary batteries is gradually increasing due to their ability to be recharged and discharged. Among these secondary batteries, lithium-ion batteries boast a high energy density per unit weight, making them widely used as power sources for electronic communication devices and in high-power hybrid vehicles.
[0004] The electrodes used in secondary batteries are used as the positive and negative electrodes of the battery and are used to electrically connect the battery and the outside of the battery.
[0005] Electrodes are produced through a process of notching and cutting electrode sheets with electrode tabs formed at regular intervals. The cut electrodes are stored individually in magazines. To store the electrodes in the magazine, the cut electrodes must be lifted and transported. The process of producing electrodes from electrode sheets through notching and cutting is a continuous process.
[0006] Electrodes, individually loaded into a magazine, are fed to a stacking device. The stacking device alternately stacks positive electrodes, separators, and negative electrodes.
[0007] The arm of the stacking device absorbs electrodes loaded in the magazine and transports them to the stacking point. The arm rotates around an axis, allowing reciprocal movement between the magazine and the stacking point.
[0008] A separator may be laminated between the electrodes being laminated. The sheet-shaped separator is continuously inserted between the electrodes, in which case the separator or electrode must be moved back and forth over a certain section.
[0009] As a technology related to the present invention, Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2273330 discloses a stacking device for a secondary battery production system, including a third conveying section that conveys separators to a stacking point. This related technology relates to conveying separators that have already been unrolled and stacked from a roll, while the present invention relates to moving separators before they are stacked, and thus the structures and effects of the two inventions are distinct from each other.
[0010] The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a device and method for laminating electrodes and separators of a secondary battery so that the separator can tightly wrap the electrodes.
[0011] The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a device and method for stacking electrodes and separators of a secondary battery by moving the separator to be stacked in the future without moving the electrodes that have already been stacked.

[0054] In addition, in the following description of the present invention, a detailed description of a configuration that is judged to unnecessarily obscure the gist of the present invention, for example, a known technology including a prior art, may be omitted.
[0055] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the relevant drawings.
[0056] In the xyz coordinate axes shown in each drawing, the x-axis direction is defined as the length direction of the secondary battery separator stacking device (100), the y-axis direction is defined as the width direction, and the z-axis direction is defined as the height direction.
[0057] FIG. 1 is an exemplary diagram of a secondary battery separator stacking device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0058] Referring to FIG. 1, a secondary battery separator stacking device (100) (hereinafter referred to as stacking device) according to an embodiment of the present invention may be placed on a stacking area (200). The stacking device (100) has a function of continuously supplying a separator to the stacking area (200) and stacking the separator together with an electrode to separate the first electrode and the second electrode.
[0059] In a lamination region (200) where a laminate, i.e., a laminated separator, a first electrode, and a second electrode are arranged, a lamination device (100) has a function of moving the end of the separator before lamination in the left-right (x-axis) direction and the up-down (z-axis) direction to laminate between the first electrode and the second electrode. The first electrode and the second electrode are laminated alternately by separate equipment, and the lamination device (100) repeats the operation of laminating a continuous separator between the first electrode and the second electrode.
[0060] If the conventional laminating device was of the type that moves the laminating area (200) where the laminating body is placed, the secondary battery separator laminating device (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention belongs to the type that moves the separator before laminating while the laminating area (200) is fixed.
[0061] The stacking device (100) may be configured to include a frame (110), a driving unit (120), a roller (140), and a guider (150).
[0062] The frame (110) forms the skeleton of the stacking device (100) and has a rotating function by being rotationally coupled with the driving unit (120). The frame (110) can be installed on the stacking area (200) where the stacked body is placed. As the first electrode, the second electrode, and the separator are stacked on the stacking area (200), the stacking area (200) gradually descends, thereby maintaining the height of the position where the separator is stacked constant in real time.
[0063] The driving unit (120) is rotationally coupled with one end of the frame (110) and has a function of transmitting rotational force to the frame (110). An electric motor can be used to generate the rotational force. The driving unit (120) is coupled with the frame (110) through the first rotational shaft (122) and has a function of causing reciprocating motion of the frame (110) in the up-and-down (z-axis) direction and left-right (x-axis) direction.
[0064] The driving unit (120) includes a motor that rotates the first rotation shaft (122). The motor may be directly connected to the first rotation shaft (122), but the main rotation shaft (127) may also be additionally used to rotate the first rotation shaft (122).
[0065] Figure 2 is an exemplary diagram of a driving unit according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0066] Referring to FIG. 2, the driving unit (120) may be configured to further include a main rotation shaft (127), a motor (128), and pulleys (129a, 129b). The motor (128) rotates the main rotation shaft (127), and the rotational power may be transmitted to the first rotation shaft (122) through the pulleys (129a, 129b) and the belt. In this case, stable power may be transmitted to the first lever (111) and the second lever (112) using one motor (128). The motor (128) may be located in the middle of the main rotation shaft (127) as shown in FIG. 2, or may be located on one side of the main rotation shaft (127).
[0067] The roller (140) is coupled with the frame (110) and has the ability to guide the separator to the lamination area (200). A plurality of rollers (140) may be provided depending on the coupling position with the frame (110). The roller (140) may include a lamination roller (141), and the lamination roller (141) may be configured to include a lower lamination roller (142) and an upper lamination roller (143) that are spaced apart from each other on the upper and lower sides.
[0068] The guider (150) has a function of guiding the trajectory of the frame (110). A plurality of guiders (150) may be provided depending on the connection position with the frame (110). For example, when one end of the frame (110) is rotated by a rotation radius of a in an angular range of 180 degrees by the driving unit (120), a second guider (160) that changes the rotation radius from a to b may be placed between one end and the other end of the frame (110) so that the other end of the frame (110) can be rotated by a rotation radius of b. In addition, a first guider (151) that guides the movement of the roller bracket (114) belonging to the other end of the frame (110) in a trajectory of a certain shape may be placed at the other end of the frame (110).
[0069] The roller bracket (114) may be directly connected to another type of driving unit that generates an arc motion in the up-down and left-right directions in addition to the combination of the driving unit (120) and the lever (111, 112).
[0070] FIG. 3 is an exemplary diagram of a laminated body laminated by a secondary battery separator lamination device according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[0071] Referring to Fig. 3, a scene in which the lower lamination roller (142) of the lamination device (100) guides and laminates the separator (S) is continuously depicted. The lower lamination roller (142) may correspond to the final roller that guides the separator (S). The lower lamination roller (142) reciprocates in a continuous trajectory in the left-right (x-axis) direction and up-down (z-axis) direction according to the operation of the lamination device (100).
[0072] Referring to the first and third drawings of FIG. 3, the lower layer roller (142) can move so as to include a section in which it rises from a state in which it descends lower than the surface of the uppermost layer of the electrode near the edges on both sides of the electrode.
[0073] That is, the stacking device (100), including the lower stacking roller (142), does not stop at a simple reciprocating motion in the left-right (x-axis) direction, but can also draw a two-dimensional trajectory in the shape of a Möbius strip by adding upward and downward movements near the edges on both sides of the first electrode (Ea) and the second electrode (Ec). At the end of each cycle, the lower stacking roller (142) returns to a certain position. The amount of white generated by the separator being elongated due to the swing motion by the mixed two-dimensional reciprocating motion of the stacking device (100) in the left-right (x-axis) and up-down (z-axis) directions can be controlled to be minimized. That is, the tension of the separator between the uppermost electrode and the lower stacking roller (142) is maintained, or the instantaneous change in tension is reduced, so that the separator can be stably stacked.
[0074] In addition, since the tension of the separator is maintained at the turn of the lower layer roller (142) at the left and right ends of the track, the shock to the separator that may occur when the tension suddenly increases from a state where the tension is low can be prevented or reduced.
[0075] The separator (S) that passes through the lower lamination roller (142) moving along a two-dimensional trajectory is laminated between the electrodes (Ea, Ec) while moving back and forth within the range of the length of the first electrode (Ea) and the second electrode (Ec) laminated in the fixed lamination area (200). For reference, the width is determined between the edge where the tabs of the first electrode (Ea) and the second electrode (Ec) are formed and the opposite edge, and the length is determined between the edges that are cut in the electrode sheet state.
[0076] As the separators are supplied continuously, the first electrode and the second electrode can be laminated between the separators by separate equipment.
[0077] Figure 4 is a front view of a secondary battery separator stacking device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0078] Figure 5 is a right side view of a secondary battery separator stacking device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0079] Figure 6 is a plan view of a secondary battery separator stacking device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0080] With reference to Figure 1 as the basic reference for the overall structure, each component will be explained with reference to the most appropriate drawing.
[0081] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 5, the frame (110) may be configured to include a first lever (111), a second lever (112), a bridge (113), and a roller bracket (114).
[0082] The first lever (111) and the second lever (112) can be coupled to each other with the bridge (113) therebetween. That is, the first lever (111), the second lever (112), and the bridge (113) can be coupled to each other to form a ladder-shaped frame (110). Since the bridge (113) has the function of connecting the first lever (111) and the second lever (112), as long as the roller (140) and the shaft (125) have the same function of connecting the first lever (111) and the second lever (112), the bridge (113) can be omitted from the configuration. Overall, the frame (110) includes a first lever (111) and a second lever (112) that are maintained in parallel with the help of a bridge (113), a shaft (125) or a roller (140), and has a ladder shape that extends long in the vertical (z-axis) direction and has a width wider than the width of the separator in the y-axis direction.
[0083] Referring to FIG. 5, the first lever (111) and the second lever (112) can be configured to include a power transmission unit (one end) (110a) coupled with a driving unit (120) via a first rotation shaft (122), a first trajectory center unit (110b) that determines the trajectory center of the frame (110), and a moving unit (the other end) (110c) coupled with a roller bracket (114).
[0084] Referring to Fig. 1, a pair of roller brackets (114) can be rotatably coupled with the other ends of the first lever (111) and the second lever (112), respectively. The position of the roller bracket (114) coupled with the other ends of the first lever (111) and the second lever (112) is a point located between one end and the other end. For example, the other ends of the first lever (111) and the second lever (112) can be rotatably coupled in the middle of the roller bracket (114), and a first guide (151) can be coupled to one end of the roller bracket (114), and a laminated roller (141) can be coupled to the other end.
[0085] The reason for additionally configuring the roller bracket (114) is to maintain the trajectory of the laminated roller (141) combined with the roller bracket (114) constant by controlling the vertical placement of the roller bracket (114).
[0086] The rotational force generated by the driving unit (120) is converted into a reciprocating motion in the up-down (z-axis) direction and left-right (x-axis) direction and transmitted to the first lever (111) and the second lever (112) of the frame (110), and this reciprocating motion can be guided along a certain trajectory by the second guide (160) located in the middle of the frame (110) and the first guide (151) located at the other end of the frame (110).
[0087] A power transmission unit (111a), a first trajectory center portion (111b), and a moving portion (111c) are formed on the first lever (111) and the second lever (112). Since the first trajectory center portion (111b) is formed closer to the power transmission unit (111a) than the moving portion (111c), a larger trajectory (rotation radius of b) can be drawn at the other end of the lever coupled with the roller bracket (114) than at the trajectory (rotation radius of a) at one end of the lever coupled with the driving unit (120). In addition, the enlargement ratio of the trajectory can be adjusted by changing the position of the first trajectory center portion (111b).
[0088] In this case, the roller bracket (114) has the function of transmitting a reciprocating motion of a certain trajectory from the other end of the frame (110) to a reciprocating motion of a larger trajectory to the stacked roller (141).
[0089] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 5, the driving unit (120) may be configured to include a base (121), a first rotation shaft (122), a cam (123), a camshaft (124), and a shaft (125). The base (121), the cam (123), and the camshaft (124) may be arranged on both sides of the frame (110) to drive the first lever (111) and the second lever (112). The first lever (111) and the second lever (112) may be connected to each other by a shaft (125). Alternatively, the shaft (125) may be omitted, as shown in FIG. 2.
[0090] The base (121) includes a first rotation shaft (122) and can be fixed. The rotation shaft of an electric motor can be connected to the first rotation shaft (122). A cam (123) can be connected to the first rotation shaft (122). The shaft (125) has a function of connecting the cam shaft (124) between the first lever (111) and the second lever (112). In addition, the first rotation shaft (122) coupled with the base (121) can be configured to transmit driving force to the cam (123) using a gear or belt.
[0091] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 5, the roller (140) may be configured to include a stack roller (141), a mid roller (145), and an upper roller (147). The mid roller (145) and the upper roller (147) correspond to guide rollers that guide the transport of the separator.
[0092] The laminate roller (141) may be configured to include a lower laminate roller (142) and an upper laminate roller (143). Here, it is important that the relative positions between the lower laminate roller (142) and the upper laminate roller (143) are maintained perpendicular to the direction of gravity.
[0093] The roller (140) has a function of guiding the separator to the lamination area (200). In order of proximity to the lamination area (200), the lower lamination roller (142), the upper lamination roller (143), the mid roller (145), and the upper roller (147) can be combined with the frame (110). Here, the mid roller (145) and the upper roller (147) can be omitted from the configuration due to the presence of the denser (170) described later.
[0094] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 5, the guider (150) may be configured to include a first guider (151) and a second guider (160).
[0095] The guide (150) has a function of guiding the frame (110) so that the frame (110) can move back and forth while drawing a certain trajectory.
[0096] As described above with respect to the frame (110), the first guide (151) has a function of guiding the trajectory of the other end of the frame (110), and the second guide (160) is located in the middle of the frame (110) and has a function of transmitting the trajectory generated by a driving unit (120) to the other end of the frame (110).
[0097] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 6, the second guide (160) may be configured to include a base (161), a third rotation axis (162), a rotation rail (163), and a slider (164).
[0098] The second guide (160) may be configured such that the base (161) is fixedly arranged, includes a third rotation shaft (162), a rotation rail (163) is coupled to the third rotation shaft (162), and a slider (164) can slide within the range of the rotation rail (163). For reference, the base (121) and the base (161) may be configured as one piece. As the third rotation shaft (162) moves within a certain range, the movement of the lower lamination roller (142) can be smoothly controlled at a point where the rotational direction of the camshaft (124) changes within a range of 180 degrees.

[0108] A secondary battery separator stacking method (S100) that can be performed by a secondary battery separator stacking device (100) will be described.
[0109] Figure 8 is a flow chart of a secondary battery separator lamination method according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0110] Referring to FIG. 8, the secondary battery separator lamination method (S100) may be configured to include a step (S110) of introducing a separator into a lamination region and a step (S130) of laminating a separator between a first electrode and a second electrode in the lamination region.
[0111] The secondary battery separator stacking device (100) can be installed on top of the fixed stacking area (200).
[0112] First, the secondary battery separator stacking device (100) can guide a continuously supplied sheet-shaped separator into a stacking area (200). In order to guide the separator into the stacking area (200), the secondary battery separator stacking device (100) can be equipped with a stacking roller (141) on the upper portion of the stacking area (200), and can further be equipped with a mid roller (145), an upper roller (147), and a denser (170).
[0113] Next, the secondary battery separator stacking device (100) can stack a separator so that it is inserted between the first electrode (Ea) and the second electrode (Ec) that are stacked in the form of single sheets within the range of the stacking area (200). Here, the secondary battery separator stacking device (100) can control the separator (S) before stacking to reciprocate in the up-and-down (z-axis) direction and left-right (x-axis) direction. Here, the reciprocating movement can be controlled by the driving unit (120) and the guider (150). Descriptions regarding other configurations are described in the description with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6.
[0114] Hereinafter, the reciprocating motion of the three-dimensional trajectory in the x-axis direction and z-axis direction of the lamination roller (141) required for performing the secondary battery separator lamination method (S100) executed by the secondary battery separator lamination device (100) will be described.
[0115] FIG. 9 is a continuous example of a separator lamination method using a secondary battery separator lamination device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0116] Referring to FIG. 9, the operation of the secondary battery separator stacking device (100) is described by dividing it into three types of operating states.
[0117] In the first movement on the left, the lamination roller (141) is located on the left side of the lamination area (200), and the driving unit (120) uses the cam (123) to reciprocate one end of the frame (110) in the up-and-down (z-axis) direction and left-right (x-axis) direction.
[0118] In the second movement in the middle, as the cam shaft (124) of the cam (123) rises, the lamination roller (141) moves to the central position of the lamination area (200), i.e., it can rise in the up-down (z-axis) direction and move to the right in the left-right (x-axis) direction. In this process, the separator (S) guided by the lamination roller (141) can tightly wrap the edge of the electrode.
[0119] In the third movement on the right, as the cam shaft (124) of the cam (123) descends again, the lamination roller (141) moves from the center of the lamination area (200) to the right side of the lamination area (200), i.e., it can descend in the up-down (z-axis) direction and move to the right in the left-right (x-axis) direction. In this process, the separator (S) guided by the lamination roller (141) performs an operation of covering the electrode.
[0120] As the camshaft (124) rises again through the opposite rotation of the driving unit (120), the second motion in the middle and the first motion on the left can be sequentially performed. That is, the driving unit (120) repeatedly performs the forward and reverse rotation of the first rotation shaft (122) within a range of 180 degrees. The semicircular motion of the camshaft (124), i.e., the 180-degree arc motion, is converted into the arc motion of the lower lamination roller (142) through the frame (110).
[0121] When the driving force of the driving unit (120) is transmitted to the laminated roller (141) through the camshaft (124), the first guider (151), and the second guider (160), the laminated roller (141) can laminate the separator (S) between the first electrode (Ea) and the second electrode (Ec) through a two-dimensional reciprocating motion of a Möbius strip-shaped left-right (x-axis) direction and up-down (z-axis) direction. In this case, no movement occurs in the width direction of the positive electrode corresponding to the y-axis direction, so that the edges of the positive electrodes and the separator can be aligned.
[0122] According to one embodiment of the present invention, the separator before lamination can be tightly laminated between the electrodes while moving up and down and left and right while the laminate is fixed.
[0123] Additionally, continuous separators can be stacked to separate the positive and negative electrodes from each other without any sagging phenomenon.
[0124] Above, although some examples have been given and various preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described, the description of the various embodiments described in the “Specific Details for Carrying Out the Invention” section is merely exemplary, and those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains will readily understand that they can carry out various modifications of the present invention or carry out equivalent implementations of the present invention based on the above description.
