[0046] As described in the background technology, in order to meet the current development needs of autonomous driving systems, especially autonomous driving systems above level L3 of the autonomous driving classification standard, powerful algorithms, computing power and data support are required, and the requirements for the automotive AI chips that provide computing power are extremely high. For intelligent driving domain controllers (IDCs) that integrate multiple system-level chips, the computing power has increased from dozens of TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) to hundreds of TOPS, or even thousands of TOPS. The increase in computing power and the compact layout of the entire vehicle have resulted in natural heat dissipation and air cooling being unable to meet the heat dissipation needs of the domain controller, and the use of water cooling has become an inevitable choice.

[0047] Figure 1 shows a schematic diagram of the vehicle's internal communication connections. The head unit system (HUT) 01, gateway (GW) 02, vehicle control unit (VCU) 03, and intelligent driving domain controller (IDC) 04 are connected via the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. As shown in Figure 1, HUT 01 and GW 02 are connected via the CAN bus and Ethernet (ETH), GW 02 and IDC 04 are connected via the ADAS_CAN bus, and GW 02 and VCU 03 are connected via the PT_CAN bus. No private CAN line is provided between VCU 03 and IDC 04. During normal operation of the intelligent driving domain controller, if there is a need for cooling, IDC 04 sends a cooling request to GW 02 via the ADAS_CAN bus. GW 02 then sends the cooling request to HUT 01 via CAN. HUT 01 determines the cooling strategy, which is then transmitted to VCU 03 via PT_CAN via GW 02. VCU 03 then controls the cooling device 05 to cool IDC 04 according to the cooling strategy. The above cooling requests and cooling strategies are sent via application messages. When the intelligent driving domain controller 04 is upgraded via OTA, the vehicle is in a silent state, and the CAN bus (including ADAS_CAN and PT_CAN) is also in a silent state. Therefore, application messages cannot be sent via the CAN bus. Therefore, the IDC04 cannot send a cooling request to the VCU03 to enable the cooling device 05 to cool itself.

[0048] Figure 2 shows a structural diagram of another type of internal communication connection in a vehicle, in which the vehicle computer HUT01 (Head unit system), the gateway GW (02 Great wall), the vehicle controller VCU03 (Vehicle Control Unit) and the intelligent driving domain controller IDC04 are connected via a CAN bus. Compared with Figure 1, a private CAN line is laid between VCU03 and IDC04 in Figure 2. When the vehicle is in a silent state, the private CAN line is not silent. IDC04 can send a cooling request to VCU03 through the private CAN line to meet the heat dissipation requirements during the upgrade. However, based on Figure 1, the additional laying of private CAN lines will increase a lot of communication costs. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a low-cost cooling method that can meet its own cooling needs during the upgrade process of IDC04. In view of this, the present application proposes a thermal management method for a vehicle, which realizes the cooling of the IDC on the basis of the structural diagram of the internal communication connection of the vehicle shown in Figure 1, ensuring that the IDC can work normally.

[0049] The embodiments of the present application are described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0050] The present application provides a vehicle thermal management method, which is applied to a vehicle controller, wherein the vehicle's controller area network bus does not include a private controller area network bus. As shown in FIG3 , the thermal management method includes the following steps:

[0051] Step 302: When a cooling request is received from the vehicle computer when the intelligent driving domain controller is upgraded through over-the-air download technology, the cooling device is controlled to cool the intelligent driving domain controller according to the pre-received temperature data; wherein the temperature data is sent by the intelligent driving domain controller through an application message before the vehicle enters the silent state.

[0052] Specifically, when a vehicle upgrade is required, the cloud sends the components requiring upgrade and the files required to the HUT (Human Equipment Unit), which then sends upgrade instructions to the components requiring upgrades. When the intelligent driving domain controller (IDC) requires an upgrade, the HUT sends an upgrade instruction to the IDC, and the IDC begins upgrading. Typically, because the upgrade package for an IDC is large, the upgrade process for the IDC falls within the scope of high-voltage FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) components. At this point, the vehicle is operating at high voltage, the IDC's internal chips are operating normally, and power consumption remains at normal levels. The external cameras and lidar connected to the IDC are both powered on, resulting in high overall power consumption for the IDC. Cooling of the IDC is necessary to meet its heat dissipation requirements and ensure its proper operation. This embodiment is based on the internal vehicle communication connection diagram shown in Figure 1. The vehicle's CAN bus does not include private CAN lines. At this point, the vehicle enters a silent state. Application messages cannot be sent over the vehicle's local area network, and only diagnostic messages can be sent. The vehicle computer 01 sends this diagnostic message as a cooling request to the vehicle controller 03, which serves as a cooling-on flag. This allows the intelligent driving domain controller 04 to be cooled during the OTA process, ensuring its heat dissipation requirements and maintaining normal operation. For example, the diagnostic message can be DoIP: 31 01 02 17 01.

[0053] After receiving the cooling request, the vehicle controller 03 determines whether the cooling device 05 is faulty. If not, it returns a fault-free signal. For example, the fault-free signal may be DoCAN: 71 01 02 17 00. Simultaneously, the vehicle controller 03 determines a cooling strategy based on the received temperature data, such as determining the output power or opening of the cooling device 05, to control the cooling device 05 to cool the intelligent driving domain controller 04 according to the cooling strategy. It should be noted that the temperature data is pre-acquired in real time by the intelligent driving domain controller 04 via a temperature sensor. Before the intelligent driving domain controller enters the upgrade process, the temperature data is sent to the vehicle controller 03 via the CAN bus in the form of an application message. During normal operation, the intelligent driving domain controller 04 periodically sends temperature data to the vehicle controller 03 via the CAN bus. This temperature data may include the current temperature of the intelligent driving domain controller 04 itself, the temperature of the cooling device, and so on. This allows the vehicle controller 03 to determine a real-time cooling strategy based on the real-time temperature data to cool the intelligent driving domain controller 04. Since the vehicle enters a silent state after the intelligent driving domain controller 04 enters the upgrade process and cannot send application messages, in this embodiment, the vehicle controller 03 uses the temperature data received last time before the upgrade as the basis for determining the cooling strategy during the upgrade process during the intelligent driving domain controller 04 upgrade process, thereby formulating a cooling strategy to meet the heat dissipation requirements during the upgrade process of the intelligent driving domain controller 04.

[0054] Through step 302, the vehicle thermal management method provided in this embodiment includes: upon receiving a cooling request, the vehicle controller controls the cooling device to cool the intelligent driving domain controller based on pre-received temperature data, thereby preventing the intelligent driving domain controller from overheating and affecting its operating performance, thereby affecting the vehicle's intelligent driving functions. The temperature data is sent by the intelligent driving domain controller via an application message before the vehicle enters a quiescent state. During quiescent state, if the vehicle's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus does not include a private Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, the vehicle does not support sending application messages. Therefore, sending the temperature data before the vehicle enters a quiescent state ensures that the vehicle controller can determine a cooling strategy for the intelligent driving domain controller based on the temperature data even after the vehicle enters a quiescent state, thereby meeting the cooling requirements of the intelligent driving domain controller when it is upgraded via over-the-air (OTA) technology. The cooling request is sent by the vehicle computer when the intelligent driving domain controller is upgraded via OTA technology, requesting the vehicle controller to cool the intelligent driving domain controller. At the same time, the vehicle thermal management method provided in this application realizes the cooling of the intelligent driving domain controller without the need to deploy a private controller local area network bus, thereby meeting the cooling requirements of the intelligent driving domain controller while reducing the deployment cost of the private controller local area network bus.

[0055] In some embodiments, the temperature data includes a current temperature of the intelligent driving domain controller and an inlet temperature of a cooling circuit for cooling the intelligent driving domain controller; the cooling device includes a fan and a water pump of the cooling circuit;

[0056] Based on the pre-received temperature data, the cooling device is controlled to cool the intelligent driving domain controller, including:

[0057] Determining the fan opening and the water pump opening in a pre-built calibration table based on the current temperature and the cooling circuit inlet temperature, wherein the calibration table is used to represent the corresponding relationship between the current temperature, the cooling circuit inlet temperature, the fan opening, and the water pump opening;

[0058] The water pump and fan are controlled according to the opening degree of the water pump and the opening degree of the fan to cool the intelligent driving domain controller.

[0059] Specifically, a calibration table is pre-built to represent the correspondence between the current temperature, the cooling circuit inlet temperature, the fan opening, and the water pump opening, as shown in Table 1. The temperature data includes the temperature of the IDC (Intelligent Driving Domain Controller) and the cooling circuit inlet temperature. The IDC temperature is the highest temperature of the chips within the IDC. Once the IDC temperature and the cooling circuit inlet temperature are determined, the fan and water pump openings are uniquely determined. These openings are calculated using linear fitting. If the inlet temperature is less than 40°C and greater than 20°C, and the IDC temperature is less than 50°C and greater than 30°C, the corresponding values are rounded upwards to 30% for the water pump and 20% for the fan, respectively, to ensure that the IDC's cooling requirements are met. After determining the water pump and fan openings, the vehicle controller controls the water pump based on the water pump opening and the fan based on the fan opening to cool the IDC. By looking up the calibration table to determine the water pump opening and fan opening, the cooling strategy can be quickly determined, thereby achieving rapid cooling of the intelligent driving domain controller and improving cooling efficiency.

[0060] Table 1 Calibration table

[0061] In some embodiments, it also includes: if no cooling end request is received within a first preset time period, controlling the cooling device to stop cooling the intelligent driving domain controller; wherein, the cooling end request is forwarded by the vehicle computer through a diagnostic message using a gateway connected to the vehicle computer after the upgrade of the intelligent driving domain controller is completed.

[0062] Specifically, after the intelligent driving domain controller upgrade is complete, cooling of the intelligent driving domain controller can be stopped to reduce power consumption generated by the cooling equipment. At this point, the vehicle computer sends a DoIP command as a cooling end request to the directly connected gateway in the form of a diagnostic message. For example, the cooling end request may be DoIP: 31 01 02 17 02. The gateway forwards the cooling end request to the vehicle controller. After receiving the cooling end request, if the vehicle controller successfully completes the cooling, it sends a cooling success feedback signal to the gateway. The cooling success feedback signal may be DoCAN: 71 01 02 17 00. If the vehicle controller determines that the cooling end failed, it sends a cooling request failure signal to the gateway. For example, the cooling request failure signal may be DoCAN: 71 01 02 17 01. If the gateway receives the cooling request failure signal or does not receive any feedback signal from the vehicle controller within a preset time, the vehicle computer will send a cooling end request again. The preset time may be 3 seconds. Regardless of whether the cooling end request is successful, the vehicle computer will send a feedback signal to the over-the-air download technology client OTA Clinet based on the actual upgrade result of the intelligent driving domain controller. The feedback signal can be an upgrade success signal or an upgrade failure signal. At the same time, if the upgrade time of the intelligent driving domain controller exceeds the second preset time, and the vehicle controller does not receive the cooling end request, the cooling device is directly controlled to stop cooling the intelligent driving domain controller. For example, the second preset time can be 1 hour. The second preset time is set in advance according to the actual upgrade process. Under normal circumstances, the intelligent driving domain controller can complete the upgrade within the second preset time. When the second preset time is exceeded, the vehicle controller controls the cooling device to stop running to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

[0063] This application provides a vehicle thermal management method, which is applied to an intelligent driving domain controller. The vehicle's controller area network bus does not include a private controller area network bus. The thermal management method includes:

[0064] Before the vehicle enters the silent state, temperature data is sent to the vehicle controller through an application message, so that the vehicle controller controls the cooling equipment to cool the intelligent driving domain controller according to the temperature data when receiving a cooling request. The cooling request is generated and sent by the vehicle computer when the intelligent driving domain controller is upgraded through over-the-air download technology.

[0065] Specifically, the temperature data is pre-acquired in real time by the intelligent driving domain controller. Before the intelligent driving domain controller enters the upgrade process, the temperature data is sent to the vehicle controller via the CAN bus in the form of an application message. During normal operation, the intelligent driving domain controller periodically sends temperature data to the vehicle controller via the CAN bus. This temperature data may include the current temperature of the intelligent driving domain controller itself, the temperature of the cooling device, and so on. This allows the vehicle controller to determine a real-time cooling strategy based on the real-time temperature data to cool the intelligent driving domain controller. Since the vehicle enters a silent state after the intelligent driving domain controller enters the upgrade process and cannot send application messages, in this embodiment, the vehicle controller uses the last temperature data received before the upgrade as the basis for determining the cooling strategy during the intelligent driving domain controller upgrade process. This cooling strategy is then formulated to meet the heat dissipation requirements of the intelligent driving domain controller during the upgrade process. At the same time, the vehicle computer sends a diagnostic message as a cooling request to the vehicle controller, which serves as a cooling enable flag. For example, the diagnostic message may be DoIP: 31 01 02 17 01. Based on the received cooling request and temperature data, the vehicle controller controls the cooling device to cool the intelligent driving domain controller.

[0066] In related technologies, when a vehicle is upgraded via OTA, when vehicle components other than the intelligent driving domain controller are upgraded, the intelligent driving domain controller remains in a normal power consumption state. Therefore, the intelligent driving domain controller needs to be continuously cooled. The cooling equipment also consumes a certain amount of electricity when cooling the intelligent driving domain controller, which in turn has a certain impact on the range of the electric vehicle. In order to reduce unnecessary energy consumption in this process, this application optimizes the energy consumption generated by the intelligent driving domain controller during the upgrade of other components through the following embodiments.

[0067] In some embodiments, the method further includes: when other components in the vehicle except the intelligent driving domain controller are upgraded via over-the-air download technology, canceling the creation of the intelligent driving process.

[0068] Specifically, during the vehicle upgrade process, if the intelligent driving domain controller does not need to be upgraded at this time, it enters low power consumption mode. The low power consumption mode specifically turns off all cameras and lidars connected to the intelligent driving domain controller. At the same time, no processes related to the intelligent driving function are created, and only the normal operation of the bottom software diagnostic business is guaranteed. At this time, since the intelligent driving domain controller consumes less power, there is no need for heat dissipation. This embodiment reduces the power consumption of the intelligent driving domain controller itself while reducing the power consumption of the cooling equipment, further reducing the power consumption in the electric vehicle, and using the saved power to power the vehicle, increasing the vehicle's mileage and improving the vehicle's endurance. After the vehicle upgrade is completed, the vehicle is put back on high voltage, the intelligent driving domain controller exits the low power consumption mode, turns on the connected cameras and lidars accordingly, and re-establishes the processes related to the intelligent driving function.

[0069] During normal vehicle driving, overheating may occur. At this time, a corresponding overheating protection strategy needs to be formulated to cool the intelligent driving domain controller to ensure the normal operation of the intelligent driving domain controller. The following describes in detail the overheating protection strategy for the intelligent driving domain controller of this application through examples.

[0070] In some embodiments, the method further includes: when the advanced driver assistance system function is enabled, if the temperature of the intelligent driving domain controller continuously exceeds a preset temperature threshold within a preset period, and reaches a third preset time after continuously exceeding the preset temperature threshold, controlling the system-level chip of the intelligent driving domain controller to shut down by the microcontroller;

[0071] When the advanced driving assistance system function is not turned on, if the temperature of the intelligent driving domain controller continues to exceed the preset temperature threshold within a preset period, the microcontroller controls the system-level chip of the intelligent driving domain controller to shut down.

[0072] Specifically, normal vehicle driving involves two scenarios. One scenario involves the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) function being enabled. If the temperature of the intelligent driving domain controller (IDD) continuously exceeds a preset temperature threshold within a preset period, it indicates overheating and requires emergency cooling measures. The IDD controller then issues an alert to the instrument panel. For example, if the temperature of the IDD controller exceeds 105°C for 10 consecutive monitoring periods, the IDD controller is determined to be overheating and requires emergency cooling. To facilitate driver attention, the alert can be sent repeatedly and frequently. After the alert is issued, if a third preset duration has elapsed, the vehicle's microcontroller (MCU) shuts down the system-on-chip (SoC) in the IDD controller. For example, the third preset duration can be 20 seconds. Since the ADAS function is enabled, the vehicle can perform emergency maneuvers, such as pulling over or slowing down, within the third preset duration to ensure driving safety. After the SoC is shut down, all intelligent driving-related functions are disabled, significantly reducing the power consumption and heat generated by the IDD controller, enabling emergency cooling of the IDD controller. Another scenario is when the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) function is not enabled. In this case, the MCU can directly shut down the SoC without waiting for the third preset time period. Simultaneously, a warning message is sent to the instrument panel to alert the driver to overheating and take timely action. After an overheating condition occurs, the ADAS function cannot be activated again during the vehicle's current power cycle. If the driver attempts to activate the ADAS function, the system will be prompted to indicate that it is overtemperature and cannot be used, ensuring driving safety.

[0073] In some embodiments, the method further comprises:

[0074] After the intelligent driving domain controller is upgraded through over-the-air download technology, the temperature of the intelligent driving domain controller is obtained in real time, and the required refrigerant flow rate in the cooling equipment is determined;

[0075] The temperature and refrigerant flow of the intelligent driving domain controller are sent to the vehicle controller in real time through application messages, so that the vehicle controller cools the intelligent driving domain controller based on the temperature and refrigerant flow of the intelligent driving domain controller.

[0076] Specifically, after the intelligent driving domain controller upgrade is complete, the vehicle exits silent mode and enters normal mode. At this point, the intelligent driving domain controller obtains its current temperature in real time and calculates the required refrigerant flow rate in the cooling circuit based on the current temperature. It then sends these current temperature and refrigerant flow rates to the vehicle controller in real time via an application message. The vehicle controller then determines a real-time cooling strategy based on these current temperatures and refrigerant flow rates to cool the intelligent driving domain controller. As shown in Figure 1, the application message route at this point is: IDC04 → ADAS_CAN → GW02 → PT_CAN → VCU03.

[0077] The present application also provides a vehicle thermal management method, which is applied to a vehicle computer, wherein the vehicle's controller area network bus does not include a private controller area network bus; the thermal management method includes:

[0078] When the intelligent driving domain controller is upgraded via over-the-air download technology, a cooling request is generated;

[0079] A cooling request is sent to a gateway connected to the vehicle computer through a diagnostic message, so that the gateway sends the cooling request to the vehicle controller, so that the vehicle controller controls the cooling device to cool the intelligent driving domain controller according to the pre-received temperature data, wherein the temperature data is sent by the intelligent driving domain controller through an application message before the vehicle enters the silent state.

[0080] Specifically, this embodiment is implemented based on the internal vehicle communication connection structure diagram shown in Figure 1. The vehicle's CAN bus does not include private CAN lines. At this time, the intelligent driving domain controller 04 is upgraded via over-the-air download technology. The vehicle enters a silent state. Application messages cannot be sent on the vehicle local area network, and only diagnostic messages can be sent. The vehicle computer 01 sends the diagnostic message as a cooling request to the vehicle controller 03, which serves as a cooling-on flag to cool the intelligent driving domain controller 04 during the OTA process, ensuring the intelligent driving domain controller 04's heat dissipation requirements and maintaining normal operating conditions. For example, the diagnostic message can be DoIP: 31 01 02 17 01.

[0081] Furthermore, the vehicle computer 01 sends a DoIP command as a cooling request to the directly connected gateway 02. The DoIP command is a command based on the Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) implemented via the Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) and Ethernet. The gateway 02 then sends the DoIP command to the vehicle controller 03 as a cooling-on flag. After receiving the cooling request, the vehicle controller 03 determines whether the cooling device 05 is faulty. If not, it sends a fault-free signal to the gateway 02, such as DoCAN: 71 01 02 17 00. Exemplarily, the cooling device 05 may be a water pump and fan for the cooling circuit. The cooling circuit provides liquid cooling for the intelligent driving domain controller 04, and the fan provides air cooling for the intelligent driving domain controller 04. It should be noted that the cooling circuit in this embodiment may be the cooling circuit for the motor, battery, or other components in the vehicle. When a cooling circuit is deployed in the vehicle, the cooling circuit adjacent to the intelligent driving domain controller can serve as the cooling circuit for the intelligent driving domain controller. In this embodiment, there is no specific limitation on the components of the cooling circuit.

[0082] In some embodiments, the method also includes: if the gateway receives a cooling failure signal or does not receive a feedback signal from the vehicle controller within a fourth preset time period, re-sending a cooling request to the vehicle controller; wherein, the cooling failure signal is sent by the vehicle controller to the gateway when the cooling of the intelligent driving domain controller fails; after re-sending the cooling request to the vehicle controller, if the cooling of the intelligent driving domain controller fails, terminating the upgrade process of the intelligent driving domain controller.

[0083] Specifically, if the vehicle controller determines that the cooling has failed, it will feed back a cooling failure signal to the gateway, such as DoCAN: 71 01 02 17 01. If the gateway receives a cooling failure signal or does not receive any feedback signal from the vehicle controller within the fourth preset time period, the vehicle computer will resend a cooling request to the vehicle controller so that the vehicle controller can control the cooling device to cool the intelligent driving domain controller. Exemplarily, the fourth preset time period may be 3s. If the cooling fails again, the vehicle computer will terminate the upgrade process of the intelligent driving domain controller and send an upgrade failure signal to the OTA Clinet to avoid upgrading in the case of cooling failure, resulting in the intelligent driving domain controller overheating. If the cooling is successful, the upgrade process of the intelligent driving domain controller will continue.

[0084] The present application also provides a thermal management method for a vehicle, wherein the vehicle's controller area network bus does not include a private sensor area network bus. Referring to FIG. 4 , the thermal management method specifically includes the following steps:

[0085] Step 402: When the intelligent driving domain controller is upgraded via over-the-air download technology, the vehicle computer generates a cooling request and sends the cooling request to the vehicle controller via a diagnostic message;

[0086] Step 404: When a cooling request is received, the vehicle controller controls the cooling device to cool the intelligent driving domain controller based on the temperature data received in advance, wherein the temperature data is sent to the vehicle controller through an application message by the intelligent driving domain controller before the vehicle enters the silent state.

[0087] Based on the above steps 402 to 404, when the intelligent driving domain controller is upgraded through the over-the-air download technology, the vehicle is in a silent state. At this time, the vehicle computer generates a cooling request and sends the cooling request to the vehicle controller through a diagnostic message, so that the vehicle controller can receive the cooling request when the vehicle is in a silent state, thereby realizing the possibility of cooling the intelligent driving domain controller. The vehicle controller controls the cooling device to properly cool the intelligent driving domain controller based on the temperature data received in advance, so as to avoid the temperature of the vehicle controller from overheating and affecting the working performance, thereby affecting the intelligent driving function of the vehicle. The temperature data is sent to the vehicle controller through an application message by the intelligent driving domain controller before the vehicle enters the silent state, avoiding the situation where the temperature data cannot be received after the vehicle enters the silent state. At the same time, the vehicle thermal management method provided in this embodiment realizes the cooling of the intelligent driving domain controller when the intelligent driving domain controller is upgraded without laying a private CAN line, meeting the cooling requirements of the intelligent driving domain controller while reducing the laying cost of the CAN line.

[0088] It should be noted that the method of the embodiment of the present application can be performed by a single device, such as a computer or server. The method of this embodiment can also be applied in a distributed scenario and performed by multiple devices working together. In such a distributed scenario, one of the multiple devices may only perform one or more steps of the method of the embodiment of the present application, and the multiple devices will interact with each other to complete the method.
