Description

Irradiation device

[0001] The present invention relates to an illumination device that uses a light-emitting element as a light source.

[0002] Lighting devices using light-emitting elements such as LEDs as light sources have been put to practical use. In recent years, LEDs in the ultraviolet and deep ultraviolet regions have been actively developed for sterilization, water purification, air purification, and crop disease prevention.

[0003] Light-emitting elements in the ultraviolet and deep ultraviolet regions require high output, and therefore generate a lot of heat during irradiation. As the temperature of the light-emitting element increases, the light-emitting efficiency and lifespan decrease, so the irradiation device must have high heat dissipation capabilities.

[0004] On the other hand, ultraviolet light and deep ultraviolet light are harmful to the human body and deteriorate surrounding materials such as plastics, so there is a need for an irradiation device that is less likely to leak light in directions other than the irradiation direction.

[0005] Furthermore, if the light emitted from the light-emitting element is reflected by the internal space wall of the lighting device and returns to the light-emitting element, the performance of the light-emitting element will be reduced, so it is necessary to prevent the light emitted by the light-emitting element from returning to the light-emitting element.

[0006] Furthermore, since such irradiation devices are likely to be built into various devices, miniaturization is required. Therefore, all of the above measures must be realized with a simple configuration that allows miniaturization.

[0007] For example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2010-137424 (Patent Document 1) describes an illumination device in which a laminate is formed by stacking multiple circular plates in the stacking direction with spacers interposed between them, and a cover portion is formed by covering and concealing an opening by placing a circular plate-shaped covering body on the laminate with spacers interposed between them, and a light-emitting element is arranged inside the cover portion, with the aim of causing air convection inside and outside a cover portion that covers a light source and dissipating heat from the light source portion outside the cover effectively and uniformly.

[0008] JP 2010-137424 A

[0009] However, in the lighting device described in Patent Document 1, the rings are stacked with spacers in between, which creates gaps between adjacent rings. While these gaps can improve heat dissipation, they also allow light emitted from the light source to leak through the gaps. In particular, when the light emitted by the light source is ultraviolet or deep ultraviolet, it is necessary to prevent the light from leaking in any direction other than the specified irradiation direction.

[0010] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an illumination device that has a simple structure that can be made small, has excellent heat dissipation properties, and is capable of preventing light from leaking in any direction other than the predetermined illumination direction.

[0011] The irradiation device according to the present invention comprises a light-emitting element and an annular wall that surrounds the light-emitting element around a predetermined irradiation direction of light from the light-emitting element and opens in the predetermined irradiation direction of light from the light-emitting element, the annular wall being constructed by stacking a plurality of annular members, and having close contact portions where adjacent annular members are closely contacted, the close contact portions being formed so as to surround continuously, the plurality of annular members including a first annular member and a second annular member stacked in contact with the first annular member, at least one of the first annular member and the second annular member being stacked so that at least a portion of the surface facing the other is exposed outside the annular wall, and the annular member is formed from a material that does not transmit light emitted by the light-emitting element.

[0012] In this way, it is possible to provide an illumination device that has a simple structure that can be made small, has excellent heat dissipation properties, and is capable of preventing light from leaking in any direction other than the predetermined illumination direction.

[0014] The irradiation device of the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to specific examples. Note that the present invention is not limited to the following embodiments, and various modifications are possible within the scope of the technical concept of the present invention.

[0015] First Embodiment As shown in FIGS. 1 to 5 , an illumination device 1 includes a substrate 10, a light-emitting element 11 mounted on the substrate 10, an annular wall 13 disposed on the substrate 10 via a heat dissipation sheet 12, an intermediate annular plate 14 mounted on the upper surface of the annular wall 13, an optical element 15 and a shim ring 16 mounted on the upper surface of the intermediate annular plate 14, a top annular plate 17 mounted on the upper surfaces of the optical element 15 and the shim ring 16, and screws 18.

[0016] The substrate 10 is made of an aluminum plate, for example.

[0017] The light-emitting element 11 is a light-emitting element capable of emitting light, and is configured to emit light upward in Fig. 4 or 5. The light-emitting element 11 is preferably a light-emitting diode or a semiconductor laser. The light emitted by the light-emitting element 11 is preferably ultraviolet light or deep ultraviolet light.

[0018] The heat dissipation sheet 12 is formed in the same shape as a first annular member 131 of the annular wall 13 (described later). As the heat dissipation sheet 12, a known heat dissipation sheet can be used.

[0019] The intermediate annular plate 14 is formed, for example, from an annular aluminum plate having an opening in the center.

[0020] The optical element 15 is an element that transmits light emitted by the light-emitting element 11 and affects the characteristics of the light. For example, a TIR lens that uses total internal reflection, a plano-convex lens that uses refraction, a biconvex lens, or a flat optical filter can be used. As an example, in this embodiment, the optical element 15 is a truncated cone-shaped TIR lens made of quartz glass. The upper end of the optical element 15 is placed so that it is hooked onto the upper surface of the intermediate annular plate 14.

[0021] The shim ring 16 is, for example, made of brass and has an opening in the center.

[0022] The top annular plate 17 is formed, for example, from an annular aluminum plate having an opening in the center.

[0023] The screws 18 pass through the substrate 10 , the heat dissipation sheet 12 , the annular wall 13 , the intermediate annular plate 14 , the shim ring 16 and the top annular plate 17 .

[0024] The annular wall 13 has openings on its upper and lower surfaces. The upper opening is covered by the optical element 15, and the lower opening is covered by the substrate 10. The annular wall 13 is formed by alternately stacking first annular members 131 and second annular members 132 multiple times so that there are no gaps penetrating the annular wall 13. That is, the annular wall 13 has close contact portions where adjacent annular members (the first annular members 131 and the second annular members 132) are in close contact with each other, and the close contact portions are formed continuously around the circumference. In this specification, "close contact" means tight adhesion or bonding. While the number of first annular members 131 and second annular members 132 is not limited, in this embodiment, a total of 10 first annular members 131 and 10 second annular members 132 are stacked alternately, one each. The first annular member 131 and the second annular member 132 are made of a material that does not transmit the light emitted by the light emitting element 11, and as an example, are made of aluminum.

[0025] In this way, by stacking the first annular member 131 and the second annular member 132 without any gaps, it is possible to prevent light emitted by the light-emitting element 11 other than light that passes through the optical element 15 from leaking outside the irradiation device 1.

[0026] The shape and / or size of the inner peripheral edge 131a of the first annular member 131 is different from the shape and / or size of the inner peripheral edge 132a of the second annular member 132. In this embodiment, the shape of the inner peripheral edge 131a of the first annular member 131 and the shape of the inner peripheral edge 132a of the second annular member 132 are both circular ( FIG. 2 ), but the sizes are different, and as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 , the size of the inner peripheral edge 131a (inner diameter) of the first annular member 131 is smaller than the size of the inner peripheral edge 132a (inner diameter) of the second annular member.

[0027] By doing so, unevenness is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 13, and the light emitted from the light emitting element 11 is diffused by the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 13. Therefore, the light emitted from the light emitting element 11 is less likely to return to the light emitting element 11, preventing a decrease in performance of the light emitting element 11. In addition, the heat dissipation effect of the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 13 can be improved.

[0028] The shape of the inner peripheral edge portion 131a of the first annular member 131 and the shape of the inner peripheral edge portion 132a of the second annular member 132 do not have to be circular, but may be polygonal, such as an equilateral triangle or a regular square, and may have recesses or protrusions formed thereon.

[0029] The shape and / or size of the outer peripheral edge portion 131b of the first annular member 131 is different from the shape and / or size of the outer peripheral edge portion 132b of the second annular member 132. As shown in Fig. 2, in this embodiment, the shape of the outer peripheral edge portion 131b of the first annular member 131 is different from the shape of the outer peripheral edge portion 132b of the second annular member 132. Also, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, in this embodiment, the size of the outer peripheral edge portion 131b (outer diameter) of the first annular member 131 is smaller than the size of the outer peripheral edge portion 132b (outer diameter) of the second annular member 132.

[0030] That is, at least one of the first annular member 131 and the second annular member 132 (the second annular member 132 in this embodiment) is stacked so that at least a portion of the surface facing the other (the first annular member 131 in this embodiment), i.e., the portion between the outer peripheral edge 131b of the first annular member 131 and the outer peripheral edge 132b of the second annular member 132, is exposed to the outside of the annular wall 13. This exposed portion of the second annular member 132 is in direct contact with the atmosphere outside the annular wall 13.

[0031] By doing so, irregularities are formed on the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 13, and the heat dissipation effect of the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 13 can be improved.

[0032] The shape of the outer peripheral edge portion 131b of the first annular member 131 and the shape of the outer peripheral edge portion 132b of the second annular member 132 may be circular, or may be polygonal, such as an equilateral triangle or a regular square, and may have recesses or protrusions formed thereon.

[0033] Four screw holes 131c are formed at 90° intervals in the first annular member 131. Four screw holes 132c are formed at 90° intervals in the second annular member 132. Four notches 132d are further formed in the outer peripheral edge 132b of the second annular member 132.

[0034] By forming the notch 132d in the outer peripheral edge portion 132b of the second annular member 132, the heat dissipation effect by the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 13 can be further improved.

[0035] In this way, the irradiation device 1 has a simple structure that can be made small, is capable of reducing the amount of light irradiated from the light-emitting element 11 returning to the light-emitting element 11, has excellent heat dissipation properties, and is capable of preventing light from leaking in any direction other than the specified irradiation direction.

[0036] <Second embodiment> As shown in Figures 6 to 10, the lighting device 2 includes a substrate 20, a light-emitting element 21 mounted on the substrate 20, an annular wall 23 arranged on the substrate 20 via a heat dissipation sheet 22, an intermediate annular plate 24 mounted on the upper surface of the annular wall 23, an optical element 25 and a shim ring 26 mounted on the upper surface of the intermediate annular plate 24, a top annular plate 27 mounted on the upper surfaces of the optical element 25 and the shim ring 26, and screws 28.

[0037] The configurations of the substrate 20, light emitting element 21, heat dissipation sheet 22, intermediate annular plate 24, optical element 25, shim ring 26, and screws 28 are similar to the configurations of the substrate 10, light emitting element 11, heat dissipation sheet 12, intermediate annular plate 14, optical element 15, shim ring 16, and screws 18 of the first embodiment, respectively. The top annular plate 27 is the top annular plate 17 of the first embodiment with ventilation holes 29, which will be described later, formed therein.

[0038] The annular wall 23 has openings formed on its upper and lower surfaces, with the upper opening covered by the optical element 25 and the lower opening covered by the substrate 20. The annular wall 23 is configured by alternately stacking first annular members 231 and second annular members 232 multiple times so that there are no gaps penetrating the annular wall 23. That is, the annular wall 23 has close contact portions where adjacent annular members (the first annular members 231 and the second annular members 232) are in close contact with each other, and the close contact portions are formed so as to surround the annular wall 23 continuously. While the number of first annular members 231 and second annular members 232 is not limited, in this embodiment, a total of 10 first annular members 231 and 10 second annular members 232 are stacked alternately, with one first annular member 231 and one second annular member 232. The first annular member 231 and the second annular member 232 are made of a material that does not transmit the light emitted by the light emitting element 21, and as an example, are made of aluminum.

[0039] In this way, by stacking the first annular member 231 and the second annular member 232 without any gaps, it is possible to prevent light emitted by the light-emitting element 21 other than light that passes through the optical element 25 from leaking outside the irradiation device 2.

[0040] A difference from the first embodiment is that the first annular member 231 has four threaded holes 231c spaced 90° apart and four ventilation holes 231d spaced 90° apart. The second annular member 232 has four threaded holes 232c spaced 90° apart, four notches 232d spaced 90° apart on the outer peripheral edge 232b, and four ventilation notches 232e spaced 90° apart on the inner peripheral edge 232a. When the first annular member 231 and the second annular member 232 are stacked, the threaded holes 231c and 232c communicate with each other, and the ventilation holes 231d and the ventilation notches 232e communicate with each other. The ventilation holes 231d and the ventilation notches 232e also communicate with the ventilation holes 29 of the top annular plate 27.

[0041] By doing this, the space surrounded by the inner surface of the annular wall 23 in the irradiation device 2, i.e., the space in which the light-emitting element 21 is arranged, is connected to the outside of the irradiation device 2 via the ventilation hole 231d, the ventilation cutout 232e, and the ventilation hole 29, thereby ensuring ventilation between the inside and outside of the irradiation device 2.

[0042] The shape and size of the inner peripheral edge 231a of the first annular member 231 and the shape and size of the inner peripheral edge 232a of the second annular member 232 are different from each other. In this embodiment, the shape of the inner peripheral edge 231a of the first annular member 231 is circular, but the shape of the inner peripheral edge 232a of the second annular member 232 is formed with ventilation notches 232e ( FIG. 7 ). Also, as shown in FIGS. 9 and 10 , the size (inner diameter) of the inner peripheral edge 231a of the first annular member 231 is smaller than the size (inner diameter) of the inner peripheral edge 232a of the second annular member 232.

[0043] That is, at least one of the first annular member 231 and the second annular member 232 (the second annular member 232 in this embodiment) is stacked so that at least a portion of the surface facing the other (the first annular member 231 in this embodiment), i.e., the portion between the outer peripheral edge 231b of the first annular member 231 and the outer peripheral edge 232b of the second annular member 232, is exposed to the outside of the annular wall 23. This exposed portion of the second annular member 232 is in direct contact with the atmosphere outside the annular wall 23.

[0044] By doing so, unevenness is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 23, and the light emitted from the light emitting element 21 is diffused by the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 23. Therefore, the light emitted from the light emitting element 21 is less likely to return to the light emitting element 21, preventing a decrease in performance of the light emitting element 21. In addition, the heat dissipation effect of the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 23 can be improved.

[0045] Furthermore, the shape and size of the outer peripheral edge portion 231b of the first annular member 231 and the shape and size of the outer peripheral edge portion 232b of the second annular member 232 are different from each other. As shown in FIG. 7 , in this embodiment, the shape of the outer peripheral edge portion 231b of the first annular member 231 and the shape of the outer peripheral edge portion 232b of the second annular member 232 are different from each other. Furthermore, as shown in FIGS. 9 and 10 , in this embodiment, the size (outer diameter) of the outer peripheral edge portion 231b of the first annular member 231 is smaller than the size (outer diameter) of the outer peripheral edge portion 232b of the second annular member 232.

[0046] By doing so, irregularities are formed on the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 23, and the heat dissipation effect of the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 23 can be improved.

[0047] In this way, the irradiation device 2 has a simple structure that can be made small, is capable of reducing the amount of light emitted from the light-emitting element 21 returning to the light-emitting element 21, has excellent heat dissipation properties, and is capable of preventing light from leaking in any direction other than the specified irradiation direction.

[0048] Other configurations and effects of the irradiation device 2 of the second embodiment are similar to those of the irradiation device 1 of the first embodiment.

[0049] <Third embodiment> As shown in Figures 11 to 14, the lighting device 3 includes a substrate 30, a light-emitting element 31 mounted on the substrate 30, an annular wall 33 arranged on the substrate 30 via a heat dissipation sheet 32, an intermediate annular plate 34 mounted on the upper surface of the annular wall 33, an optical element 35 and a shim ring 36 mounted on the upper surface of the intermediate annular plate 34, a top annular plate 37 mounted on the upper surfaces of the optical element 35 and the shim ring 36, and screws 38.

[0050] The configurations of the substrate 30, light-emitting element 31, heat dissipation sheet 32, intermediate annular plate 34, optical element 35, shim ring 36, top annular plate 37, and screw 38 are similar to the configurations of the substrate 20, light-emitting element 21, heat dissipation sheet 22, intermediate annular plate 24, optical element 25, shim ring 26, top annular plate 27, and screw 28 in the second embodiment, respectively.

[0051] The annular wall 33 has openings formed on its upper and lower surfaces, with the upper opening covered by an optical element 35 and the lower opening covered by the substrate 30. The annular wall 33 is configured by alternately stacking first annular members 331 and second annular members 332 multiple times so that there are no gaps penetrating the annular wall 33. That is, the annular wall 33 has close contact portions where adjacent annular members (the first annular members 331 and the second annular members 332) are in close contact with each other, and the close contact portions are formed so as to surround the annular wall 33 continuously. While the number of first annular members 331 and second annular members 332 is not limited, in this embodiment, a total of 10 first annular members 331 and 10 second annular members 332 are stacked alternately, with one first annular member 331 and one second annular member 332. The first annular member 331 and the second annular member 332 are made of a material that does not transmit the light emitted by the light emitting element 31, and as an example, are made of aluminum.

[0052] In this way, by stacking the first annular member 331 and the second annular member 332 without any gaps, it is possible to prevent light emitted by the light-emitting element 31, other than light that passes through the optical element 35, from leaking outside the irradiation device 2.

[0053] As in the second embodiment, the first annular member 331 has four threaded holes 331c spaced 90° apart and four vent holes 331d spaced 90° apart. The second annular member 332 has four threaded holes 332c spaced 90° apart, four notches 332d spaced 90° apart on the outer peripheral edge 332b, and four ventilation notches 332e spaced 90° apart on the inner peripheral edge 332a. When the first annular member 331 and the second annular member 332 are stacked, the threaded holes 331c and 332c communicate with each other, and the ventilation holes 331d and the ventilation notches 332e communicate with each other. The ventilation holes 331d and the ventilation notches 332e also communicate with the ventilation holes 39 of the top annular plate 37.

[0054] By doing this, the space surrounded by the inner surface of the annular wall 33 in the irradiation device 3, i.e., the space in which the light-emitting element 31 is arranged, is connected to the outside of the irradiation device 3 via the ventilation hole 331d, the ventilation cutout 332e, and the ventilation hole 39, thereby ensuring ventilation between the inside and outside of the irradiation device 3.

[0055] 14 , when the first annular member 331 and the second annular member 332 are stacked, the external heat dissipation holes 332f of the second annular member 332 are positioned outside the outer peripheral edge portion 331b of the first annular member 331.

[0056] By doing so, the surface area of the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 33 can be increased, and the heat dissipation effect can be further improved.

[0057] As in the second embodiment, the shape and size of the inner peripheral edge 331a of the first annular member 331 and the shape and size of the inner peripheral edge 332a of the second annular member 332 are different from each other. In this embodiment, the shape of the inner peripheral edge 331a of the first annular member 331 is circular, but the shape of the inner peripheral edge 332a of the second annular member 332 is formed with ventilation notches 332e ( FIG. 12 ). Also, as shown in FIG. 14 , the size (inner diameter) of the inner peripheral edge 331a of the first annular member 331 is smaller than the size (inner diameter) of the inner peripheral edge 332a of the second annular member 332.

[0058] That is, at least one of the first annular member 331 and the second annular member 332 (the second annular member 332 in this embodiment) is stacked so that at least a portion of the surface facing the other (the first annular member 331 in this embodiment), i.e., the portion between the outer peripheral edge 331b of the first annular member 331 and the outer peripheral edge 332b of the second annular member 332, is exposed to the outside of the annular wall 33. This exposed portion of the second annular member 332 is in direct contact with the atmosphere outside the annular wall 33.

[0059] By doing so, unevenness is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 33, and the light emitted from the light emitting element 31 is diffused by the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 33. Therefore, the light emitted from the light emitting element 31 is less likely to return to the light emitting element 31, preventing a decrease in performance of the light emitting element 31. In addition, the heat dissipation effect of the inner peripheral surface of the annular wall 33 can be improved.

[0060] The shape and size of the outer peripheral edge portion 331b of the first annular member 331 and the shape and size of the outer peripheral edge portion 332b of the second annular member 332 are different from each other. As shown in Fig. 12 , in this embodiment, the shape of the outer peripheral edge portion 331b of the first annular member 331 and the shape of the outer peripheral edge portion 332b of the second annular member 332 are different from each other. As shown in Fig. 14 , in this embodiment, the size (outer diameter) of the outer peripheral edge portion 331b of the first annular member 331 is smaller than the size (outer diameter) of the outer peripheral edge portion 332b of the second annular member 332.

[0061] By doing so, irregularities are formed on the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 33, and the heat dissipation effect of the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 33 can be improved.

[0062] In this way, the irradiation device 3 has a simple structure that can be made small, is capable of reducing the amount of light emitted from the light-emitting element 31 returning to the light-emitting element 31, has excellent heat dissipation properties, and is capable of preventing light from leaking in any direction other than the specified irradiation direction.

[0063] The other configurations and effects of the irradiation device 3 of the third embodiment are similar to those of the irradiation device 2 of the second embodiment.

[0064] <Fourth embodiment> As shown in Figures 15 to 19, the lighting device 4 includes a substrate 40, a light-emitting element 41 mounted on the substrate 40, an annular wall 43 arranged on the substrate 40 via a heat dissipation sheet 42, an intermediate annular plate 44 mounted on the upper surface of the annular wall 43, an optical element 45 and a shim ring 46 mounted on the upper surface of the intermediate annular plate 44, a top plate 47 mounted on the upper surfaces of the optical element 45 and the shim ring 46, and screws 48.

[0065] The configurations of the substrate 40, light-emitting element 41, heat dissipation sheet 42, intermediate annular plate 44, shim ring 46, and screw 48 are similar to the configurations of the substrate 20, light-emitting element 21, heat dissipation sheet 22, intermediate annular plate 24, shim ring 26, and screw 28 in the second embodiment, respectively.

[0066] A circuit 41a is disposed between the substrate 40 and the light-emitting element 41. In this embodiment, the light-emitting element 45 is, for example, a TIR lens. The top plate 47 has a different shape from the top annular plate 27 of the second embodiment, but, like the top annular plate 27, is formed, for example, from an aluminum plate having an opening in the center.

[0067] The annular wall 43 has openings formed on its upper and lower surfaces, the upper opening being covered by the optical element 45, and the lower opening being covered by the substrate 40. The annular wall 43 is formed by laminating a plurality of annular members 431 so that there are no gaps penetrating the annular wall 43.

[0068] An opening is formed in the center of the annular member 431, and the inner peripheral edge 431a is circular. A screw hole 431c and a screw notch 431d are formed between the inner peripheral edge 431a and the outer peripheral edge 431b. A number of recesses 431e and protrusions 431f are formed on the outer peripheral edge 431b of the annular member 431. A surface area increasing portion consisting of a number of protrusions and recesses is formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the protrusions 431f. In addition to the protrusions and recesses, the surface area increasing portion is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of grooves, notches, and through holes.

[0069] In this embodiment, the annular wall 43 includes a first annular member and a second annular member. The first and second annular members are formed by annular members 431 of the same shape, differing only in their orientation in the horizontal plane. The second annular member is oriented by rotating the first annular member 90° clockwise in the horizontal plane. When the first and second annular members are stacked, the screw hole 431c of the first annular member overlaps with the screw notch 431d of the second annular member. Furthermore, the recess 431e of the first annular member overlaps with the protrusion 431f of the second annular member.

[0070] That is, the first annular member and the second annular member are stacked so that at least a portion of the surface facing the other, i.e., the convex portion 431f, is exposed to the outside of the annular wall 43. The convex portion 431f of the annular member 431 is in direct contact with the atmosphere outside the annular wall 43.

[0071] In this way, it is possible to form irregularities on the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 43 using only the annular members 431 of the same shape, and the heat dissipation effect of the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 43 can be improved.

[0072] Furthermore, since the upper and lower surfaces of the protrusion 431f of the annular member 431 are formed with increased surface area portions, the heat dissipation effect can be further improved.

[0073] The annular wall 43 is formed by alternately stacking first and second annular members 431 without gaps between them. The annular wall 43 has close contact portions where adjacent annular members 431 are in close contact with each other, and the close contact portions are formed so as to surround the wall continuously.

[0074] Although the number of annular members 431 is not limited, in this embodiment, 24 annular members 431 are stacked. The annular members 431 are made of a material that does not transmit the light emitted by the light emitting elements 41, and as an example, are made of aluminum.

[0075] In this way, by stacking the annular members 431 without any gaps, it is possible to prevent light emitted by the light-emitting element 41, other than light that passes through the optical element 45, from leaking outside the irradiation device 4.

[0076] By doing so, the surface area of the outer peripheral surface of the annular wall 43 can be increased, and the heat dissipation effect can be further improved.

[0077] In this way, the irradiation device 4 has a simple structure that can be made small, has excellent heat dissipation properties, and is capable of preventing light from leaking in any direction other than the predetermined irradiation direction.

[0078] Other configurations and effects of the irradiation device 4 of the fourth embodiment are similar to those of the irradiation device 2 of the second embodiment.

[0079] <Fifth Embodiment> As shown in Figures 20 to 23, the lighting device 5 includes a substrate 50, a light-emitting element 51 mounted on the substrate 50, an annular wall 53 arranged on the substrate 50 via a heat dissipation sheet 52, an intermediate annular plate 54 mounted on the upper surface of the annular wall 53, an optical element 55 and a shim ring 56 mounted on the upper surface of the intermediate annular plate 54, a top plate 57 mounted on the upper surfaces of the optical element 55 and the shim ring 56, and screws 58.

[0080] The configurations of the substrate 50, light-emitting element 51, heat dissipation sheet 52, annular wall 53, intermediate annular plate 54, optical element 55, shim ring 56, top plate 57, and screw 58 are similar to the configurations of the substrate 40, light-emitting element 41, heat dissipation sheet 42, annular wall 43, intermediate annular plate 44, optical element 45, shim ring 46, top plate 47, and screw 48 in the fourth embodiment, respectively.

[0081] Unlike the fourth embodiment, a circuit 51a is disposed between the substrate 50 and the light-emitting element 51, but the area of the substrate 50 covered by the circuit 51a is smaller than in the fourth embodiment. Unlike the fourth embodiment, the heat dissipation sheet 52 is disposed directly on the substrate 50, not on the circuit 51a, so as to surround the outer periphery of the circuit 51a. In the fifth embodiment, the substrate 50 and the heat dissipation sheet 52 constitute a thermally conductive member that supports the optical element 55. The annular member 531 is in direct contact with the heat dissipation sheet 52, and the heat dissipation sheet 52 is in direct contact with the substrate 50.

[0082] By doing so, the heat dissipation effect can be further improved.

[0083] The other configurations and effects of the irradiation device 5 of the fifth embodiment are similar to those of the irradiation device 4 of the fourth embodiment.

[0099] The irradiation device according to the present invention will be described in more detail below by showing a specific manufacturing example and test results.

[0100] Example 1 In Example 1, a heat conduction analysis was performed using the irradiation device 1 of the first embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 5 as a model, and the heat dissipation effect was confirmed. A steady-state analysis was performed using a heat conduction analysis simulator using the finite element method. The steady-state analysis is a method of analysis assuming a state after a sufficiently long time has passed.

[0101] In the analysis, the components were set as follows: Substrate: 30 mm x 30 mm x 2 mm, made of aluminum Light-emitting element: 6.8 mm x 6.8 mm x 2.1 mm, made of aluminum nitride Heat dissipation sheet: 0.3 mm thick First annular portion and second annular portion: one sheet each with a thickness of 0.5 mm, total of 20 sheets, made of aluminum Intermediate annular plate: 1.2 mm thick, made of aluminum Optical element: TIR lens with an outer diameter of 18 mm and a height of 10 mm, made of quartz glass Shim ring: 1 mm thick, made of brass Top annular plate: 0.5 mm thick, made of aluminum Screw: made of SUS304 stainless steel

[0102] In the irradiation device 1 configured in this manner, analytical calculations were performed under the conditions that the heat generation amount of the light-emitting element 11 was 1 W and the external environmental temperature was 25° C. As shown in Fig. 24, the light-emitting element 11, which is the heat source, reached the highest temperature, and the maximum temperature of the light-emitting element 11 was 35.2° C.

[0103] <Comparative Example 1> As shown in FIG. 25 , the irradiation device 9 of Comparative Example 1, like the irradiation device 1 of Example 1, includes a substrate 90, a light-emitting element 91, a heat dissipation sheet 92, an optical element 95, a shim ring 96, a top annular plate 97, and screws 98. Meanwhile, unlike the annular wall 13 of the irradiation device 1 of Example 1, the annular wall 93 of the irradiation device 9 is formed so that the diameter (inner diameter) of the inner peripheral surface 93a and the diameter (outer diameter) of the outer peripheral surface 93b of the annular wall 93 are constant. Using this irradiation device 9 as a model, a heat conduction analysis was performed in the same manner as in Example 1 to confirm the heat dissipation effect. The annular wall 93 was used instead of the annular wall 13 and the intermediate annular plate 14. The annular wall 93 had an outer diameter of 30 mm, an inner diameter of 16 mm, a height of 11.2 mm, and was made of aluminum. The other component settings were the same as in Example 1. As shown in FIG. 25(C), the heat conduction analysis results indicated that the light-emitting element 91, which is the heat source, reached the highest temperature, with the maximum temperature at the light-emitting element 91 being 45.2°C.

[0104] Thus, in Example 1, a temperature reduction effect of 10° C. was observed at the heat source compared to Comparative Example 1.
