At this time, the direction toward +y with respect to the origin can mean the front direction, and the direction toward -y can mean the rear direction. In addition, the z-axis direction can be defined as the up-down direction. At this time, the direction toward +z with respect to the origin can mean the upward direction, and the direction toward -z can mean the downward direction.

[0242] Meanwhile, the present disclosure describes an embodiment in which the driver's seat is positioned on the left and the passenger seat on the right, based on the longitudinal direction, but is not limited thereto. For example, the present disclosure may be applied to an embodiment in which the driver's seat is positioned on the right and the passenger seat on the left, or an embodiment in which the driver's seat is positioned in the center and the passenger seats are positioned on either side.

[0243] Referring to FIG. 9, a first backlight unit (850a) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure may include a first light guide panel (LGP) (910), a first light source unit (920), a light control film (LCF) (930), a second light guide panel (940), a second light source unit (950), a diffusion sheet (960), a first prism sheet (971), a second prism sheet (972), and / or a brightness enhancement film (980).

[0244] The first light source unit (920) can emit light toward the first light guide plate (910). In the present disclosure, the first light source unit (920) is described as being positioned below the first light guide plate (910) and emitting light in an upward direction, but is not limited thereto.

[0245] The first light source unit (920) may include a plurality of first light sources (921). The plurality of first light sources (921) may be light emitting diodes (LEDs). The plurality of first light sources (921) may be implemented as an array arranged in the left-right direction.

[0246] The first light guide plate (910) can function as a surface light source. The first light guide plate (910) can reflect light emitted from the first light source unit (920). The light reflected from the first light guide plate (910) can be directed in the forward direction. The light emitted from the first light guide plate (910) can be incident on the light control film (930).

[0247] The first light guide plate (910) may include a first reflector (not shown) that reflects light emitted from the first light source unit (920). The first reflector may be positioned on the rear side of the first light guide plate (910). The first reflector may be formed of a material with high reflectivity. For example, the first reflector may be formed of silver (Ag), aluminum (Al), or the like.

[0248] The light control film (930) may be positioned between the first light guide plate (910) and the second light guide plate (940). The light control film (930) may emit at least a portion of the light emitted from the first light guide plate (910) in the forward direction. The path of the light emitted from the light control film (930) may correspond to the forward and backward directions. The light emitted from the light control film (930) may be incident on the second light guide plate (940).

[0249] The second light source unit (950) can emit light to the second light guide plate (940). The second light source unit (950) can be arranged on the right side of the second light guide plate (940). The second light source unit (950) can include a plurality of second light sources (951). The plurality of second light sources (951) can be light emitting diodes (LEDs). The plurality of second light sources (951) can be implemented as an array arranged in the vertical direction.

[0250] The second light guide plate (940) can function as a surface light source. The second light guide plate (940) can emit at least a portion of the light emitted from the light control film (930) in the forward direction. The path of the light emitted from the light control film (930) can correspond to the forward-backward direction. The path of the light emitted from the light control film (930) and passing through the second light guide plate (940) can correspond to the forward-backward direction.

[0251] The second light guide plate (940) can reflect light emitted from the second light source unit (950). The second light guide plate (940) can include a second reflector (not shown) that reflects light emitted from the second light source unit (950). The second reflector can be placed on the rear side of the second light guide plate (940).

[0252] A plurality of reflective patterns may be arranged on the second reflector. At this time, light incident on and reflected by the reflective patterns may be directed toward the driver's seat. That is, light emitted from the second light source (950) and reflected by the second light guide plate (940) may be emitted toward the driver's seat. For example, the reflective patterns may be formed to protrude and / or recess into a predetermined shape so that the reflected light may be directed toward the driver's seat.

[0253] A diffusion sheet (960) can be placed between the first light guide plate (910) and the light control film (930). The diffusion sheet (960) can scatter light emitted from the first light guide plate (910) and evenly distribute it across one surface.

[0254] The prism sheets (971, 972) can refract and / or focus light emitted from the diffusion sheet (960). A prism pattern can be formed on the prism sheets (971, 972). For example, a plurality of prism patterns arranged adjacent to each other can be formed on the prism sheets (971, 972) to form a plurality of band shapes. The prism patterns can have a triangular prism shape.

[0255] The brightness enhancement film (980) can reflect some of the incident light and transmit the other part. The brightness enhancement film (980) can be implemented as a polarizing film. The brightness enhancement film (980) can be a DBEF (Dual Brightness Enhancement Film). For example, the brightness enhancement film (980) can transmit the polarization corresponding to a preset direction among the incident light in the forward direction and reflect the polarization of the light in a direction different from the preset direction in the rear direction. At this time, the light reflected in the rear direction by the brightness enhancement film (980) can be re-incident to the brightness enhancement film (980) and recycled through re-reflection by components located in the rear direction of the brightness enhancement film (980). The brightness of the display area can be enhanced through this light recycling. Here, the brightness of the display area can mean the brightness when the display panel (810) is viewed from the front.

[0256] Referring to FIG. 10, the light control film (930) may include a plurality of absorption patterns (931) made of a material that absorbs light. For example, the plurality of patterns (931) may be made of a black pigment, a black dye, or a black resin. Each of the plurality of absorption patterns (931) may be formed to extend in the vertical direction. Each of the plurality of absorption patterns (931) may be formed to have a predetermined height in the front-back direction. The plurality of absorption patterns (931) may be implemented as an array arranged in the left-right direction.

[0257] The light control film (930) may further include a transmission pattern (932) made of a material that transmits light and is arranged between a plurality of absorption patterns (931). For example, the transmission pattern (932) may be made of a transparent resin or the like.

[0258] As shown in drawing reference numeral 1001, an absorption pattern (931) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure may be implemented so that the cross-sectional shape in the front-back direction has a rectangular shape. When the cross-sectional shape of the absorption pattern (931) is rectangular, the widths of both ends of the absorption pattern (931) may both be the first width (w1).

[0259] Meanwhile, as shown in the drawing reference numeral 1002, the absorption pattern (931) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure may be implemented so that the cross-section in the front-back direction has a trapezoidal shape. The cross-section of the absorption pattern (931) in the front-back direction may have an isosceles trapezoid. When the cross-section of the absorption pattern (931) has a trapezoidal shape, the width of the front end of the absorption pattern (931) may have a second width (w2), and the width of the rear end may have a third width (w3) that is larger than the second width (w2). The width of the absorption pattern (931) may increase from the front end to the rear end. The height (h2) of the absorption pattern (931) when the cross-section is trapezoidal may be smaller than the height (h1) of the absorption pattern (931) when the cross-section is rectangular.

[0260] Meanwhile, at least a portion of the light incident on the absorption pattern (931) may be reflected by the absorption pattern (931). At this time, when the cross-section of the absorption pattern (931) is trapezoidal, the incident angle of the light incident on the absorption pattern (931) may be larger than when the cross-section is rectangular. Therefore, when the cross-section of the absorption pattern (931) is trapezoidal, the light totally reflected by the absorption pattern (931) may increase compared to when the cross-section is rectangular. When the light totally reflected by the absorption pattern (931) increases, the brightness of the display area may be improved as the light transmitting through the light control film (930) increases.

[0261] Referring to FIGS. 11A and 11B, the second light guide plate (940) may include a second reflector (941) that reflects light emitted from the second light source (950). A plurality of first reflector patterns (942) may be arranged on the second reflector (941). The first reflector patterns (942) may be formed to protrude in a predetermined shape so that the reflected light is directed toward the driver's seat. For example, a cross-section of the first reflector pattern (942) that is perpendicular to the y-axis direction may have a rectangular shape. In this case, the first reflector pattern (942) may have a square pyramid shape.

[0262] When a member having a shape corresponding to the first reflection pattern (942) is engraved on the mold, a recessed pattern having a shape corresponding to the first reflection pattern (942) can be formed on the mold. At this time, a second light guide plate (940) can be formed through injection molding using the mold.

[0263] As shown in drawings 1101 and 1102, the greater the number of first reflection patterns (942) formed on the second light guide plate (940), the more light emitted from the second light source (950) and reflected from the second light guide plate (940) toward the driver's seat can be increased.

[0264] Meanwhile, as the number of first reflective patterns (942) formed on the second light guide plate (940) increases, the spacing between the first reflective patterns (942) may decrease. At this time, as the spacing between the first reflective patterns (942) decreases, the amount of light emitted from the light control film (930) and transmitted through the second light guide plate (940) in the forward direction may decrease. As the amount of light transmitted through the second light guide plate (940) in the forward direction decreases, the brightness of the display area may decrease. Therefore, the number of first reflective patterns (942) formed on the second light guide plate (940) may correspond to a target brightness value of the display area. For example, if the number of first reflection patterns (942) formed on the second light guide plate (940) is reduced by 10% from 5 million to 4.5 million, the brightness for the display area can increase by 3%.

[0265] Referring to FIGS. 12 and 13, light can be emitted from a first light source (921) included in a first light source unit (920) and a second light source (951) included in a second light source unit (950).

[0266] Light emitted from the first light source (921) may be reflected from the first light guide plate (910) and directed to the light control film (930). Some of the light incident on the light control film (930) may be absorbed by the absorption pattern (931). Other light incident on the light control film (930) may be emitted from the light control film (930) in a direction parallel to the vertical direction. The light emitted from the light control film (930) may transmit through the second light guide plate (940) and propagate in the forward direction. Therefore, a user positioned facing the front of the display panel (810) may view an image based on the light emitted from the first light source (921).

[0267] Meanwhile, light emitted from the second light source (951) may be reflected from the second light guide plate (940). At this time, the light reflected from the first reflection pattern (942) of the second light guide plate (940) may be emitted toward the driver's seat located on the left. Accordingly, a user located in the driver's seat may view an image based on the light emitted from the second light source (951).

[0268] Referring to FIGS. 14 and 15, light may be emitted from a first light source (921) included in a first light source unit (920). The light emitted from the first light source (921) may travel in the forward direction through the first light guide plate (910), the light control film (930), and the second light guide plate (940). Accordingly, a user positioned facing the front of the display panel (810) may view an image based on the light emitted from the first light source (921).

[0269] Meanwhile, light may not be emitted from the second light source (951) included in the second light source unit (950). If light is not emitted from the second light source (951), the light emitted from the display panel (810) may not be directed toward the driver's seat. Therefore, a user positioned in the driver's seat may not be able to view the image.

[0270] Referring to Fig. 16, light may be emitted from a second light source (951) included in a second light source unit (950). The light emitted from the second light source (951) may be reflected from the second light guide plate (940) and emitted toward the driver's seat located on the left. Accordingly, a user located in the driver's seat may view an image based on the light emitted from the second light source (951).

[0271] Meanwhile, light may not be emitted from the first light source (921) included in the first light source unit (920). If light is not emitted from the first light source (921), the light may not be directed in the forward direction from the front of the display panel (810). Therefore, a user positioned facing the front of the display panel (810) may not be able to view the image.

[0272] Referring to FIG. 17, the brightness of the image viewed by the user may vary depending on the angle at which the display panel (810) is viewed.

[0273] When light is emitted from both the first light source (921) and the second light source (951) (1710), the user can view an image having a brightness higher than a predetermined level from an angle of 0° when viewing the display panel (810) from the front to an angle of -40° when viewing from the driver's seat.

[0274] Meanwhile, when light is emitted only from the first light source (921) (1720), the user can view an image with a brightness higher than a predetermined level at an angle of 0° when looking at the display panel (810) from the front, whereas the user may not be able to view the image at an angle of -40° when looking from the driver's seat.

[0275] Meanwhile, when light is emitted only from the second light source (951) (1730), the user can view an image with a brightness higher than a predetermined level at an angle of -40° when viewing the display panel (810) from the driver's seat, whereas it may be extremely difficult for the user to view the image at an angle of 0° when viewing the display panel (810) from the front.

[0276] Referring to Fig. 18, when the brightness enhancement film (980) is implemented as a polarizing film, polarized light corresponding to a preset direction can be emitted. At this time, when the brightness enhancement film (980) is placed on the front side of the light control film (930), light traveling along the front side direction by the light control film (930) can be diffused by light recycling by the brightness enhancement film (980). In addition, the greater the haze of the brightness enhancement film (980), the greater the degree to which light is diffused.

[0277] As shown in drawing symbol 1801, when a brightness enhancement film (980) is placed between a light control film (930) and a second light guide plate (940), light diffused by the brightness enhancement film (980) can pass through the second light guide plate (940) and be incident on the display panel (810).

[0278] Additionally, even when a brightness enhancement film (980) is placed between the second light guide plate (940) and the display panel (810), as shown in drawing symbol 1802, light diffused by the brightness enhancement film (980) can be incident on the display panel (810).

[0279] That is, when the brightness enhancement film (980) is placed on the front side of the light control film (930) and the light that was traveling in the front direction by the light control film (930) is diffused by the brightness enhancement film (980), the performance of controlling the brightness and viewing angle for the display area may be reduced.

[0280] The performance of adjusting the viewing angle can be calculated based on the result of dividing the luminance value corresponding to the case where the display panel (810) is viewed from a certain angle by the luminance value corresponding to the case where the display panel (810) is viewed from the front. In the present disclosure, the performance of adjusting the viewing angle is described as the value expressed as a percentage of the result of dividing the first luminance value corresponding to an angle of -40° when the display panel (810) is viewed from the driver's seat by the second luminance value corresponding to an angle of 0° when the display panel (810) is viewed from the front.

[0281] Meanwhile, referring to FIG. 19A, when the brightness enhancement film (980) is positioned on the rear side of the light control film (930), light directed toward the light control film (930) can increase due to light recycling by the brightness enhancement film (980). For example, the brightness enhancement film (980) can transmit polarized light (1910) corresponding to a preset direction among the incident light in the forward direction and reflect polarized light (1920) in a direction different from the preset direction in the rear direction. At this time, the light reflected in the rear direction by the brightness enhancement film (980) can be re-incident to the brightness enhancement film (980) and recycled through re-reflection by components positioned in the rear direction of the brightness enhancement film (980).

[0282] As the brightness enhancement film (980) is disposed on the rear side of the light control film (930), light (1930) emitted from the brightness enhancement film (980) and incident on the light control film (930) can be emitted from the light control film (930) toward the front side. Therefore, when the brightness enhancement film (980) is disposed on the rear side of the light control film (930), the performance of controlling brightness and viewing angle for the display area can be improved.

[0283] Viewing Angle Luminance Case 01.72% 100% Case 11.70% 83.4% Case 21.64% 118% Case 31.56% 124%

[0284] Table 1 above is a table showing the performance of adjusting the viewing angle and the brightness for the display area for various cases related to the placement of the brightness enhancement film (980).

[0285] In Table 1, with respect to the brightness of the display area in various cases related to the placement of the brightness enhancement film (980), the brightness value of each case is divided by the brightness value in the case where the brightness enhancement film (980) is not placed (Case 0), and the result is expressed as a percentage to provide a relative explanation.

[0286] The performance of adjusting the viewing angle can be detected as 1.72% when the brightness enhancement film (980) is not placed (Case 0), 1.70% when the brightness enhancement film (980) is placed on the front side of the second light guide plate (940) (Case 1), 1.64% when the brightness enhancement film (980) is placed between the light control film (930) and the second light guide plate (940) (Case 2), and 1.56% when the brightness enhancement film (980) is placed on the rear side of the light control film (930) (Case 3).

[0287] The luminance for the display area can be detected as 83.4% when the luminance enhancement film (980) is placed on the front side of the second light guide plate (940) (Case 1), 118% when the luminance enhancement film (980) is placed between the light control film (930) and the second light guide plate (940) (Case 2), and 124% when the luminance enhancement film (980) is placed on the rear side of the light control film (930) (Case 3).

[0288] That is, when the brightness enhancement film (980) is placed on the rear side of the light control film (930), the performance of controlling brightness and viewing angle for the display area can be improved compared to when the brightness enhancement film (980) is not placed or when the brightness enhancement film (980) is placed on the front side of the light control film (930).

[0289] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the haze of the brightness enhancement film (980) may be limited to a predetermined value so as to minimize degradation of the performance of adjusting the viewing angle. For example, the haze of the brightness enhancement film (980) may be 45% or less.

[0290] Meanwhile, in the case where the second light guide plate (940) is formed through injection molding using a mold, polycarbonate may be used as the material of the second light guide plate (940) to ensure reliability, etc. In this case, due to differences in density caused by the mold during injection molding, differences in the degree of cooling depending on the location, etc., a birefringence phenomenon in which the polarization refractive index of the second light guide plate (940) is partially different may occur.

[0291] When polarized light emitted from a brightness enhancement film (980) partially transmits through a second light guide plate (940) having a different polarization refractive index, the characteristics of the polarized light transmitting through the second light guide plate (940) may change. In this case, when the polarized light with changed characteristics transmits through the display panel (810), staining may occur in the display area.

[0292] Considering the occurrence of spots in such display areas, according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a brightness enhancement film (980) may be placed between the first prism sheet (971) and the second prism sheet (972).

[0293] Referring to FIG. 19b, when a brightness enhancement film (980) is placed between a first prism sheet (971) and a second prism sheet (972), the brightness enhancement film (980) can transmit polarized light (1950) corresponding to a preset direction among incident light in the forward direction and reflect polarized light (1940) in a direction different from the preset direction in the rearward direction. At this time, the light reflected in the rearward direction by the brightness enhancement film (980) can be re-incident to the brightness enhancement film (980) and recycled through re-reflection by the first prism sheet (971) or the like positioned in the rearward direction of the brightness enhancement film (980).

[0294] Light (1960) emitted from the brightness enhancement film (980) may be incident on the second prism sheet (972). At this time, since the second prism sheet (972) refracts and / or focuses the light (1960) emitted from the brightness enhancement film (980), the characteristics of the light (1970) emitted from the second prism sheet (972) may be the same as the characteristics when the brightness enhancement film (980) is not disposed. Therefore, when the brightness enhancement film (980) is disposed between the first prism sheet (971) and the second prism sheet (972), the occurrence of stains on the display area due to the brightness enhancement film (980) being disposed on the front side of the first prism sheet (971) and the second prism sheet (972) may be minimized.

[0295] Meanwhile, when the second light guide plate (940) is formed through injection molding using a mold, different stresses may be generated in different parts of the second light guide plate (940). In particular, the stress at the corners of the second light guide plate (940) may have a greater impact on the occurrence of stains in the display area than other parts. Therefore, the size of the mold used to form the second light guide plate (940) may be larger than the size of the second light guide plate (940).

[0296] Referring to drawing reference numeral 2001 of FIG. 20, the size of the first mold (2010) may be larger than the size of the second light guide plate (940).

[0297] The first mold (2010) may include a free area (2011) corresponding to a first length (L1) in the vertical direction, compared to the second light guide plate (940). At this time, since the corner portion (2013) of the first mold (2010) where internal stress occurs overlaps with the second light guide plate (940), internal stress that affects the occurrence of stains in the display area may also occur in the corner portion (2015) of the second light guide plate (940) that overlaps with the corner portion (2013) of the first mold (2010).

[0298] Meanwhile, referring to the drawing reference numeral 2001 of FIG. 20, the second mold (2020) may include a free area (2021) corresponding to a second length (L2) in the vertical direction, compared to the second light guide plate (940). At this time, since the corner portion (2023) of the second mold (2020) where internal stress occurs does not overlap with the second light guide plate (940), the occurrence of internal stress in the corner portion of the second light guide plate (940), which affects the occurrence of stains in the display area, can be minimized. According to one embodiment, the second length, which is the length of the free area in the vertical direction included in the second mold (2020), may be 15 mm or more.

[0299] FIGS. 21 to 28 are drawings that are referenced in the description of a backlight unit according to another embodiment of the present disclosure. Detailed descriptions of content that overlaps with the content described in FIGS. 9 to 20 will be omitted.

[0300] Referring to FIGS. 21 and 22, a second backlight unit (850b) according to another embodiment of the present disclosure may include a first light guide plate (910), a first light source unit (920), a light control film (930), a third light guide plate (940'), a third light source unit (950'), a diffusion sheet (960), a first prism sheet (971), a second prism sheet (972), and / or a brightness enhancement film (980).

[0301] The third light source unit (950') can emit light toward the third light guide plate (940'). In the present disclosure, the third light source unit (950') is described as being arranged above the third light guide plate (940') and emitting light downward, but is not limited thereto. For example, the third light source unit (950') can be arranged below the third light guide plate (940') and emitting light upward.

[0302] The third light source unit (950') may include a plurality of third light sources (951'). The plurality of third light sources (951') may be light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The plurality of third light sources (951') may be implemented as an array arranged in the left-right direction.

[0303] The third light guide plate (940') can function as a surface light source. The third light guide plate (940') can emit at least a portion of the light emitted from the light control film (930) in the forward direction. The path of the light emitted from the light control film (930) can correspond to the forward-backward direction. The path of the light emitted from the light control film (930) and passing through the third light guide plate (940') can correspond to the forward-backward direction.

[0304] The third light guide plate (940') can reflect light emitted from the third light source unit (950'). The third light guide plate (940') can include a third reflector (941') that reflects light emitted from the third light source unit (950'). The third reflector (941') can be placed on the rear side of the third light guide plate (940').

[0305] A plurality of second reflection patterns (942') may be arranged on the third reflection plate (941'). At this time, light incident on and reflected by the second reflection patterns (942') may be directed toward the driver's seat. That is, light emitted from the third light source unit (950') and reflected by the third light guide plate (940') may be emitted toward the driver's seat. The second reflection pattern (942') may be formed by protruding and / or recessing in a predetermined shape so that the reflected light may be directed toward the driver's seat. For example, a cross-section of the second reflection pattern (942') perpendicular to the y-axis direction may have a pentagonal shape. At this time, the second reflection pattern (942') may have a pentagonal pyramidal shape.

[0306] Referring to FIG. 23, light can be emitted from a first light source (921) included in a first light source unit (920) and a third light source (951') included in a third light source unit (950').

[0307] The light emitted from the first light source (921) can travel forward through the first light guide plate (910), the light control film (930), and the third light guide plate (940'). Accordingly, a user positioned facing the front of the display panel (810) can view an image based on the light emitted from the first light source (921).

[0308] Meanwhile, light emitted from the third light source (951') may be reflected from the third light guide plate (940') and emitted toward the driver's seat located on the left. Accordingly, a user positioned in the driver's seat may view an image based on the light emitted from the third light source (951').

[0309] Referring to Fig. 24, light may be emitted from a first light source (921) included in a first light source unit (920). The light emitted from the first light source (921) may travel in the forward direction through the first light guide plate (910), the light control film (930), and the second light guide plate (940). Accordingly, a user positioned facing the front of the display panel (810) may view an image based on the light emitted from the first light source (921).

[0310] Meanwhile, light may not be emitted from the third light source (951') included in the third light source unit (950').
