[0001] Cross-citation with related applications
[0002] This application claims the benefit of priority from Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0124652, filed September 19, 2023, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
[0003] Technology field
[0004] The present invention relates to a reactive monomer separation device, and more particularly, to a separation device in which the structure of a feed supply section is designed so that feed can be uniformly distributed within the column, thereby improving column efficiency.
[0005] A dual flow tray is a distillation device designed to allow gas and liquid to move up and down through holes without a downcomer. Specifically, the dual flow tray lacks a downcomer, resulting in liquid flow due to liquid dripping from the tray's holes. It is used in cases where the substance to be separated, such as a reactive monomer, undergoes severe polymerization within the column, forming a polymer and potentially causing fouling.
[0006] Dual-flow trays offer the advantages of high permissible flow rates and resistance to polymer fouling. However, they suffer from lower efficiency compared to columns using other types of trays due to channeling. Channeling is a major factor in reducing column efficiency, and the larger the column diameter, the more likely it is to occur.
[0007] Specifically, the channeling phenomenon is a phenomenon in which the uneven flow of liquid and gas occurs due to physical factors such as uneven distribution of feed or tray clogging. When this channeling phenomenon occurs, the gas-liquid contact area is reduced, and as a result, the gas-liquid contact for each stage occurs in an area smaller than the design capacity. In addition, since the dual flow tray does not have a descending plate, redistribution of the liquid does not occur, and as a result, the overall efficiency of the column decreases, which leads to problems such as a decrease in product quality and an increase in energy consumption.
[0008] Thus, since uneven distribution of feed in a column using dual flow trays induces channeling, even distribution of feed is one of the factors that determines column efficiency. However, conventional columns have been designed without considering even distribution of feed within the column, resulting in low efficiency. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a design for a feed supply structure that enables even distribution of feed in a column using dual flow trays.
[0009] The problem to be solved in the present invention is to provide a reactive monomer separation device with improved column efficiency by designing the structure of the feed supply section so that the feed can be uniformly distributed within the column in order to solve the problem mentioned in the background technology of the above invention.
[0010] However, the problems that the present invention seeks to solve are not limited to the problems mentioned above, and other problems not mentioned will be clearly understood by those skilled in the art from the description below.
[0011] According to one embodiment of the present invention for solving the above-described problem, a reactive monomer separation device comprises: a cylindrical column; a plurality of dual flow trays provided inside the cylindrical column to divide a plurality of stages; and a feed supply unit provided in one of the plurality of stages to supply a liquid raw material.
[0012] In addition, the feed supply unit may include a circular feed transfer pipe provided along the inner wall of the cylindrical column; one or more inner pipes extending in the direction of the central axis from the circular feed transfer pipe; and a spray nozzle provided at an end of each of the one or more inner pipes.
[0013] The spray angle (θ) of the above spray nozzle may be less than or equal to the maximum spray angle defined by the following equation (1).
[0014] Equation (1): Maximum injection angle = 2 × tan -1 (l / h)
[0015] In the above equation (1), l is the length of the inner pipe, and h is the height from the lower dual flow tray of the stage equipped with the feed supply section to the feed supply section.
[0016] According to the reactive monomer separation device of the present invention, the structure of the feed supply section is designed to improve the area of the feed distribution region of the feed stage in the dual flow tray, thereby preventing the channeling phenomenon and maximizing the gas-liquid contact area, thereby increasing the efficiency of the entire column.
[0017] In addition, by improving the structure of the feed supply section so that the feed can be distributed evenly and widely in the dual flow tray, the channeling phenomenon can be prevented, and the deterioration of product quality and increase in energy usage due to the decrease in overall column efficiency can be prevented.
[0018] The effects that can be obtained from this invention are not limited to the effects mentioned above, and other effects not mentioned can be clearly understood by those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains from the description below.

[0044] The term "stream" as used herein may refer to the flow of fluid within a process, or may refer to the fluid itself flowing within a pipe. Specifically, the stream may refer to both the fluid itself flowing within the pipe connecting each device and the flow of the fluid. [0045] In the present invention, the term "bottom" of the device, unless otherwise specified, refers to a point 95% to 100% in height downward from the top of the device, and may specifically refer to the lowest point. Similarly, the term "top" of the device, unless otherwise specified, refers to a point 0% to 5% in height downward from the top of the device, and may specifically refer to the top.
[0046] In this specification, “depth of the injection nozzle” means the distance separated from the inside of the column (100) located most adjacent to the injection nozzle (330), and can be used with the same meaning as “length of the inner pipe (l)”, and “height of the injection nozzle” or “height of the feed supply section” can mean the height (h) from the lower tray (210a) to the feed supply section (or injection nozzle). In addition, “tray spacing (TS)” can mean the height from the lower tray (210a) to the upper tray (210b) at the feed end.
[0047] Hereinafter, a reactive monomer separation device according to the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
[0048] FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of a reactive monomer separation device according to one embodiment, and FIG. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of area A of FIG. 1, and more specifically, a detailed structural diagram of a feed stage (A) equipped with a feed supply unit (300).
[0049] Referring to FIG. 1, a reactive monomer separation device according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a cylindrical column (100).
[0050] The above cylindrical column (100) can be applied without limitation as long as it is a form generally used in a separation process through gas-liquid contact, and the size of the cylindrical column (100) can be appropriately selected within a range commonly applied in the relevant field, and there is no particular limitation. For example, the inner diameter of the cylindrical column (100) may be about 300 mm to 6,000 mm, specifically about 1,500 mm to 6,000 mm, and more specifically about 1,800 mm to 4,000 mm, and the overall height of the cylindrical column (100) may be about 2,000 mm to 60,000 mm, specifically about 5,000 mm to 50,000 mm, and more specifically about 6,000 mm to 40,000 mm, but is not limited thereto.
[0051] In addition, a reactive monomer separation device according to one embodiment of the present invention is provided with a plurality of dual flow trays (210) inside the cylindrical column (100). The reactive monomer, which is the material to be separated, may polymerize inside the column to form a polymer, which increases the risk of fouling. Therefore, in the present invention, a dual flow tray (210) is used as a tray that divides the stages of a distillation column for gas-liquid separation.
[0052] The above dual flow tray (210) is a sieve tray without a downcomer, and performs a dual function of allowing both liquid and vapor to pass through the holes (holes, 215) of the dual flow tray. In addition, since the dual flow tray does not have a downcomer, it provides a larger tray area, and thus has the advantage of greater capacity and easier installation and maintenance than general tray types. However, since the dual flow tray operates in a state where the liquid continuously flows through the holes (215), it has low efficiency and is susceptible to channeling, making it sensitive to the liquid distribution of the feed. Therefore, in the present invention, the structure of the feed supply unit (300), which will be described later, is designed to distribute the liquid feed as evenly as possible in order to improve the separation efficiency of the dual flow tray and prevent the occurrence of channeling.
[0053] The above-described plurality of dual flow trays (210) are arranged in a vertical direction with respect to the height direction of the cylindrical column (100), as illustrated in FIG. 1, and can be arranged to be spaced apart from each other at a predetermined interval (TS). The interior of the cylindrical column (100) can be divided into a plurality of stages (200) by the plurality of dual flow trays (210).
[0054] The number and size of the above dual flow trays (210) are not particularly limited, and can be set based on the number of theoretical plates inferred from a distillation curve considering the composition of the feed stream. In the above, the “number of theoretical plates” refers to a virtual area in which two phases, such as gas and liquid phases, are in equilibrium with each other in a separation device, or the number of plates partitioned by a plurality of trays.
[0055] According to one embodiment of the present invention, a feed supply unit (300) is provided in one of the plurality of stages (200), i.e., a predetermined feed stage (A), to supply a liquid raw material into the column. At this time, the raw material may include one or more reactive monomers, or a mixture containing the same. Examples of the reactive monomers include, but are not limited to, (meth)acrylic acid, acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, and 1,3-butadiene.
[0056] Referring to FIG. 2, the feed supply unit (300) may be spaced apart from the lower dual flow tray (210a) and the upper dual flow tray (210b) at a predetermined feed stage (A). The height (h) of the feed supply unit (300) may be determined according to the tray spacing (TS), the column inner diameter, the depth (l) of the spray nozzle to be described later, and / or the spray angle (θ). For example, considering that the area of the feed spray area increases as the feed supply unit (300) is installed higher, it may be preferable that the feed supply unit (300) be provided at a position closer to the upper dual flow tray (210b) than to the lower dual flow tray (210a), but is not limited thereto. For example, the height (h) of the feed supply unit may be greater than 0 mm and less than TS, and in detail, may be greater than TS / 2 and less than TS. However, it is preferable that the feed supply unit (300) be provided at a height that can be spaced apart from the upper dual flow tray (210b) without coming into contact with it.
[0057] For example, if the feed supply unit (300) is installed too low, the spray nozzle may be positioned lower than the feed solution liquid level on the lower dual flow tray, as shown in FIG. 4. At this time, the solution level can be calculated using a simulation program, etc. In addition, if the length (l) of the inner pipe is short and the spray angle (θ) of the spray nozzle is large, if the feed supply unit (300) is installed too high, as shown in FIG. 5, the radius of the feed spray area becomes large, causing the sprayed feed to flow down along the inner wall of the column, thereby lowering the efficiency of the column.
[0058] In a reactive monomer separation device according to one embodiment of the present invention, a feed supply unit (300) includes a feed transfer pipe (310), an inner pipe (320), and an injection nozzle (330). A reactive monomer is a substance that spontaneously forms a polymer. Therefore, when a reactive monomer is supplied to a separation device as a feed, a liquid distributor used in a general column cannot be used because of its complex structure, which is prone to polymer fouling. Therefore, in the reactive monomer separation device according to the present invention, a relatively simple-structured injection nozzle (330) is used to reduce the possibility of polymer fouling, while at the same time, the feed containing the reactive monomer is distributed as evenly as possible on the tray of the feed stage.
[0059] Referring to Fig. 2, the feed conveying pipe (310) may be provided in a circular shape along the inner wall of the cylindrical column (100). Through the structure described above, interference of the solution descending from the upper tray (210b) can be minimized.
[0060] In one embodiment, the inner pipe (320) may extend from the circular feed transfer pipe (310) in the direction of the central axis to have a predetermined length (l). For example, the length (l) of the inner pipe (320) may be less than 0.5D, specifically greater than 0 mm and less than 0.5D, and more specifically 0.15D to 0.35D or less. Here, D is the inner diameter of the cylindrical column (see FIG. 3). As the length (l) of the inner pipe approaches 0.5D, the maximum spray angle increases, thereby maximizing the feed spray area. However, due to physical constraints due to the limits of the spray angle of commercial nozzles, the area of the feed spray area may not increase significantly. In addition, when two or more nozzles are used, the area of the overall feed spray area may increase as the length (l) of the inner pipe increases, but overlap between the feed spray areas may occur, so that the feed distribution efficiency may not increase significantly. Meanwhile, if the inner pipe (320) is absent or its length is too short, the feed injection area may be limited, making efficient feed distribution difficult.
[0061] The inner pipe (320) may be provided with one or more, and preferably with two or more. The number of the inner pipes (320) may be appropriately selected in consideration of column efficiency. For example, the number of the inner pipes may be 2 to 10, specifically 2 to 8, and more specifically 4 to 6.
[0062] Additionally, the one or more inner pipes (320) may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other at equal intervals. When a plurality of inner pipes (320) are arranged to be spaced apart from each other at equal intervals, the feed injection areas overlapping with each other and the non-injection areas can be reduced, thereby distributing the feed more evenly.
[0063] In one embodiment, the spray nozzle (330) is provided at the end of each of the one or more inner pipes (320). The number (n) of the spray nozzles may correspond 1:1 to the number of the inner pipes. For example, the number (n) of the spray nozzles may be 2 to 10, specifically, 2 to 8, and more specifically, 4 to 6.
[0064] The spray angle (θ) of the above spray nozzle can be adjusted by considering the inner diameter (D) of the column, the length (l) of the inner pipe, the height (h) of the feed supply portion, and / or the number (n) of the spray nozzles. FIGS. 6 to 9 illustrate the feed spray area (B) according to the length of the inner pipe (320) and the spray angle of the spray nozzle when the number of spray nozzles (330) is four. Specifically, FIGS. 6 and 7 illustrate the minimum feed spray area when the inner pipe (320) is long and the spray nozzle (330) satisfies the minimum spray angle, and the maximum feed spray area when the spray nozzle (330) satisfies the maximum spray angle, respectively. Meanwhile, FIGS. 8 and 9 illustrate the optimal feed spray area when the inner pipe (320) is short and the spray nozzle (330) satisfies the optimal spray angle, and the feed spray area when the spray nozzle (330) exceeds the optimal spray angle, respectively.
[0065] More specifically, when the number (n) of the injection nozzles (330) is 4 and the length (l) of the inner pipe (320) is longer than a certain level, when the injection nozzles (330) satisfy the minimum injection angle, the area of the overall feed injection area (B) is somewhat reduced as shown in FIG. 6, but the overlapping feed injection areas can be minimized. More specifically, referring to the upper right of FIG. 10, when the injection nozzles (330) satisfy the minimum injection angle, the radius [{(D / 2)-l}*sin(π / n)] of the feed injection area (B) can be smaller than the length (l) of the inner pipe.
[0066] In addition, when the number (n) of injection nozzles (330) is 4 and the length (l) of the inner pipe (320) is longer than a certain level, when the maximum injection angle is satisfied, the area of the overall feed injection area (B) can be maximized as shown in Fig. 7, but some feed injection areas that overlap each other exist. Referring to the lower right of Fig. 10, when the injection nozzle satisfies the maximum injection angle, the length (l) of the inner pipe and the radius of the feed injection area can be the same.
[0067] Meanwhile, as illustrated in FIG. 8, when the number (n) of the injection nozzles (330) is 4 and the length (l) of the inner pipe (320) is shorter than a certain level, even if the feed injection area (B) is injected at the maximum injection angle of the injection nozzle (330) that does not touch the inner wall of the column (100), there is no overlapping feed injection area (B), so the minimum injection angle and the maximum injection angle of the injection nozzle (330) can be the same (see the left side of FIG. 10). In this way, when the minimum injection angle and the maximum injection angle of the injection nozzle (330) are the same, the optimal injection angle can be achieved.
[0068] On the other hand, in a case where the number (n) of injection nozzles (330) is 4 and the length (l) of the inner pipe (320) is shorter than a certain level, as shown in FIG. 9, if the injection nozzles (330) exceed the optimal injection angle in order to expand the area of the feed injection area (B), the sprayed feed flows down the inner wall of the column (100), causing a problem in which the column efficiency is lowered.
[0069] In Fig. 10, the left side shows the minimum and maximum feed injection areas when the inner pipe length (l) is short, the right side shows the minimum and maximum feed injection areas when the inner pipe length (l) is long, and Fig. 11 shows the radius of the feed injection area (B) according to the injection angle (θ) and height (h) of the injection nozzle. In addition, Fig. 12 is a graph showing the maximum and minimum radii of the feed injection area according to the inner pipe length. In this way, the maximum and minimum injection angles of the injection nozzle can be derived with reference to Figs. 10 to 12.
[0070] When all conditions other than the spray angle (θ) of the above spray nozzle are fixed, the area of the feed spray area increases as the spray angle of the spray nozzle increases. However, if the sprayed feed comes into contact with the inner wall of the column, it flows down the inner wall of the column, and since such feed solution does not undergo gas-liquid separation, it is necessary to adjust the spray angle of the spray nozzle so that the feed does not come into contact with the inner wall of the column.
[0071] Accordingly, it is preferable that the spray angle (θ) of the spray nozzle (330) be adjusted to be less than or equal to the maximum spray angle defined by the following equation (1).
[0072] Equation (1): Maximum injection angle = 2 × tan -1 (l / h)
[0073] In the above equation (1), l is the length of the inner pipe, and h is the height from the lower dual flow tray of the stage equipped with the feed supply section to the feed supply section (see Fig. 3).
[0074] The above equation (1) is the maximum injection angle that can maximize the area of the entire feed injection area without the feed sprayed from the injection nozzle touching the inner wall of the column. That is, when the injection angle (θ) of the injection nozzle satisfies equation (1), as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the area of the feed injection area can be maximized, while preventing the problem of the feed sprayed from the injection nozzle flowing down the inner wall of the column due to excessive expansion of the feed injection area (B), as shown in FIG. 9, thereby lowering the column efficiency.
[0075] Furthermore, referring to FIGS. 10 and 11, the minimum radius of the feed injection area that can maximize the total feed injection area while minimizing the overlapping area of the feed injection areas while considering the feed distribution efficiency can be selected according to the length of the inner pipe. Specifically, the minimum radius of the feed injection area can be a smaller value between the length of the inner pipe and a value calculated as [{(D / 2)-l}*sin(π / n)].
[0076] Accordingly, it is preferable that the spray angle (θ) of the spray nozzle be adjusted to an angle greater than the minimum spray angle defined by the following equation (2).
[0077] Equation (2): Minimum injection angle = 2 × tan -1 (min[{(D / 2)-l}×sin(π / n), l] / h)
[0078] In the above equation (2), D is the inner diameter of the cylindrical column, l is the length of the inner pipe, n is the number of injection nozzles, and h is the height from the lower dual flow tray of the stage equipped with the feed supply section to the feed supply section (see Fig. 3). Here, the n injection nozzles are spaced apart from each other at equal intervals (distances).
[0079] The above equation (2) is the minimum injection angle that can minimize the area where the feed injection areas (B) overlap with each other. In other words, the injection angle (θ) of the injection nozzle must satisfy the above equation (2) to minimize the overlap of the feed injection areas while maximizing their area. Referring to Fig. 12, the point where the radius of the minimum injection area and the radius of the maximum injection area intersect [(D / 2)*(sin(π / n) -1 +1) -1 ] In the case where the length of the inner pipe is less than or equal to the radius of the minimum spray area and the radius of the maximum spray area, it can be seen that the minimum spray angle and the maximum spray angle of the spray nozzle are also the same.
[0080] Meanwhile, FIGS. 13 and 14 are graphs showing the correlation between the minimum and maximum spray angles according to the inner pipe length, calculated in one embodiment, when the height (h) of the spray nozzle and the inner diameter (D) of the column are fixed.
[0081] Specifically, Fig. 13 shows the maximum and minimum spray angles of the spray nozzles when a feed supply section having four spray nozzles (n) is installed at a height of 200 mm in the feed stage (A) of a cylindrical column having an inner diameter of 1,500 mm. Referring to Fig. 13, when the length of the inner pipe is below a certain level, the maximum and minimum spray angles of the spray nozzles are the same, but as the length exceeds that level, the gap between the maximum and minimum spray angles gradually increases. In addition, region (a) of Fig. 13 represents a case where the spray angle of the spray nozzle is larger than the maximum spray angle, and the feed spray area becomes excessively large, causing the feed within the column to flow toward the inner wall of the column, thereby reducing the separation efficiency. Region (b) of Fig. 13 represents a case where the spray angle of the spray nozzle is smaller than the minimum spray angle, and the area of the maximum spray area according to the length of the inner pipe cannot be achieved, so the feed within the column may be inefficiently distributed. Area (c) of Fig. 13 represents a case where the spray angle of the spray nozzle satisfies an angle between the minimum and maximum spray angles, whereby the feed spray areas overlap and are efficiently distributed, and the feed does not flow to the inner wall of the column. Therefore, the inner pipe length corresponding to area (c) can be set according to the spray angle of the commercial nozzle.
[0082] Specifically, Fig. 14 shows the maximum and minimum spray angles for each number of spray nozzles (n=2, 4, 6, and 8) when the feed supply section is installed at a height (h) of 200 mm from the lower tray (210a) at the feed end of a cylindrical column having an inner diameter (D) of 1,500 mm.
[0083] Referring to Fig. 14, when the height (h) of the injection nozzle and the inner diameter (D) of the column are fixed, the maximum spray angle of the injection nozzle is independent of the number (n) of the injection nozzles, but the minimum spray angle is affected by the number (n) of nozzles, and accordingly, it can be confirmed that the length of the inner pipe, which becomes the branch point where the maximum and minimum spray angles of the injection nozzles change, also changes according to the number of injection nozzles. In addition, as the number of injection nozzles increases, the length of the inner pipe for optimal feed distribution can be shorter. However, the length of the inner pipe (i.e., the depth of the injection nozzle) can be affected by the diameter of the column and the height of the injection nozzle in addition to the number of injection nozzles. For example, when using 2 to 8 injection nozzles with the height (h) of the feed supply section and the inner diameter (D) of the column fixed, it may be desirable for the length (l) of the inner pipe to be about 0.15D to 0.35D (i.e., 0.15 to 0.35 times the inner diameter (D) of the column) in terms of optimal feed distribution.
[0084] Meanwhile, a separation device according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include a lower discharge port (400) provided at the bottom of the cylindrical column (100) to discharge a liquid stream, and an upper discharge port (500) provided at the top of the cylindrical column to discharge a gaseous stream.
[0085] The raw material supplied into the cylindrical column (100) undergoes a separation process through continuous gas-liquid contact at each stage of the column, and the relatively light low-boiling-point component rises in a vapor state and is discharged through the upper discharge port (500) provided at the top of the column, and the relatively heavy high-boiling-point component descends in a condensed liquid state and can be discharged through the lower discharge port (400) provided at the bottom of the column. For example, when a feed containing acrylic acid is supplied, the acrylic acid can be discharged through the lower discharge port (400), but is not limited thereto.
[0086] In the dual flow tray (210) of each stage, a gaseous stream rising upward and a liquid stream descending downward come into contact with each other to transfer heat and mass, and as a result, a portion of the high boiling point components condense and flow down to the bottom, and the uncondensed vapor continues to rise to the top, a process that is continuously performed.
[0087] Above, the reactive monomer separation device according to the present invention has been described and illustrated in the drawings, but the description and illustration in the drawings describe and illustrate only the core components for understanding the present invention, and in addition to the processes and devices described and illustrated in the drawings, processes and devices not described and illustrated separately can be appropriately applied and utilized to implement the reactive monomer separation device according to the present invention.
[0088] Although exemplary embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention is not limited thereto, and those skilled in the art will understand that various changes and modifications are possible within the scope and spirit of the claims set forth below.
