Abstract
Description
[0001] An assembly and a method for tensioning a balancing spring of a sectional door system while assembling the sectional door system
[0002] Technical field
[0003] The present disclosure relates to sectional door systems and installation of such. In particular aspects, the disclosure relates to an assembly and a method for tensioning a balancing spring of a sectional door system while assembling the sectional door system. The disclosure also relates to a kit of parts for locking a ratchet wheel of a spring break protection mechanism during installation of a balancing spring in a sectional door system as defined in the introductory parts of the independent claims.
[0004] Background art
[0005] Overhead sectional doors open upwards towards the ceiling thereby maximizing space around the door opening. The doors consist of several interlinked panels or sections forming the door leaf and thereby offer great flexibility. Torsion springs, generally two springs per door, are used to balance out the total weight of the door leaf, so the overhead sectional door can be opened with 'ease'. If the door is (partly) open and one of the springs breaks, the system may get out of balance, which can cause the door leaf to fall with force. This can lead to dangerous situations. In case of only one torsion spring, the danger is even higher.
[0006] To avoid these dangerous situations usually a torsion spring is connected to a so-called spring break device (SBD), i.e. a safety device that is arranged to stop the fall of the door leaf in case the torsion spring is broken. At the end of the torsion spring a plug is commonly attached and is arranged to be connected to a base plate of the SBD.
[0007] Installing overhead sectional doors having such a torsional spring arrangement attached to an SBD may, however, involve a lot of installation steps to be performed by a mechanic. To this end, EP 2 669456 Bl discloses an improved assembly comprising a spring break protection mechanism and a spring plug. There is, however, a further need for assemblies allowing for easier, safer and less time-consuming installation of overhead sectional doors.

[0055] Detailed description
[0056] The present disclosure will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which preferred example embodiments of the disclosure are shown. The disclosure may, however, be embodied in other forms and should not be construed as limited to the herein disclosed embodiments. The disclosed embodiments are provided to fully convey the scope of the disclosure to the skilled person.
[0057] Figures la and lb show perspective views of an assembly 100 according to an example. Figure 2 further shows a side view of the assembly 100. With reference to Figures 1 and 2, the assembly 100 comprises a spring break protection mechanism 102 and a spring plug 104 for connecting a balancing spring 106 to the spring break protection mechanism 102. The balancing spring is 106 is arranged to balance a sectional door system 200 as is described below and illustrated in Figure 8. The balancing spring 106 may be a torsion spring. The assembly 100 further comprises a locking mechanism 108 for locking the spring break protection mechanism 102 while tensioning the balancing spring 106. The tensioning of balancing spring 106 is to achieve a balancing force for compensating the weight of the door segment of a sectional door thereby balancing the sectional door.
[0058] The spring break protection mechanism 102 comprises: a base plate 110 arranged for connection to the fixed world, e.g. a wall. The base plate 110 may have the form of a L-profile as exemplified in Figures 1 and 2.
[0059] The base plate 110 comprises an opening 112 for receiving a balancing axle 114 of the sectional door system (not shown). The opening 112 may be a through hole.
[0060] The spring break protection mechanism 102 comprises a ratchet wheel 116 which is rotatably arranged at a first side Illa of the base plate 110. The ratchet wheel 116 is arranged to cooperate with the balancing axle 114, see Figures la and lb.
[0061] The ratchet wheel 116 may be rotatably arranged to the first side Illa by a bearing 103. The ratchet wheel 116 may comprise a hole 117 for receiving a balancing axle 114 of a sectional door system (not shown). The ratchet wheel 116 may be arranged to cooperate with the balancing axle 114, e.g. it can be coupled to a balancing axle 114 having a coaxial groove which cooperated with a pin 119, see Figure 2.
[0062] The spring break protection mechanism 102 comprises a pawl 118 pivotably connected to the base plate 110 at the first side thereof Illa. The pawl 118 is pivotable between a first position, in which the ratchet wheel 116 is free-running, and a second position in which the pawl 118 blocks the ratchet wheel 116. The spring break protection mechanism further comprises an extension 120 attached to the pawl 118 and extending from the pawl 118 to beyond a second side 111b of the base plate 110.
[0063] The base plate 110 and the spring plug 104 are arranged for bayonet mount interaction with each other, wherein upon the spring plug 104 is placed against the second side 111b of the base plate 110 and then rotated in a first direction for bayonet connection, part of the spring plug 104 thereby pushes the extension 120 so as to force the pawl 118 in the first position. Upon the spring plug 104 is then rotated in a second direction opposite to the first direction, the pawl 118 moves into the second position, to block the ratchet wheel 116 so as to avoid rotation of the balancing axle 114. For achieving the bayonet mount interaction, the base plate 110 may further comprise: a first and second hook 113a, 113b arranged at the second side 111b of the base plate 110, see Figure 2, for bayonet mount interaction with the spring plug 104. The spring plug 104 comprises a connection member 105 for connecting the balancing spring 106 and a blade 107 arranged at an outer end of the connection member 105 and extending away from a central axis 109 of the connection member 105 into two opposing directions. The blade having two blade portions 107a, 107b.
[0064] The connection member 105 may comprise threaded grooves arranged to interact with an internal surface of a balancing spring 106.
[0065] The hooks 113a, 113b, extend from the base plate 110. One or more of the hooks 113a, 113b, may have an L-shaped form.
[0066] The bearing 103 may be ring shaped. The bearing 103 may extend out of a main plane of the base plate 110 at the second side 111b. When placed against the base plate 110, the spring plug 104 may be positioned around the ring-shaped bearing 103 and rotated around bearing 103. The spring plug 104 may be rotated around its axis until the blades 107a, 107b meet the hooks 113a, 103b, respectively. In use the blades 107a, 107b will be forced against the hooks 113a, 103b by a torsion force of the biased balancing spring 106 attached to the spring plug 104.
[0067] With further reference to Figures 1 and 2, the locking mechanism 108 may comprise a locking member 122. The locking member 122 is arranged to removably engage with the ratchet wheel 116, see Figure lb. A locking arrangement 124 is arranged to removable fixate the locking member 122 to the base plate 110 such that the spring break protection mechanism 102 is locked. The locking mechanism 108 thereby hinders the ratchet wheel 116 from rotating while the balancing spring 106 is tensioned.
[0068] The locking member 122 may have an engagement opening 126 with engagement portions 128 arranged to removable engage with teeth 130 of the ratchet wheel 116, see Figure 2. The locking member 122 may be arranged such that it is slidably movable, as illustrated by the arrow 123 in Figure la, along the ratchet wheel 116 in a direction perpendicular to the rotation direction 115 of the ratchet wheel 116. The direction perpendicular to the rotation direction 115 of the ratchet wheel 116 may be aligned with the central axis 109 of the balancing axle 114 is inserted inside the opening 112. The locking member 122 may be slidably movable 123 along the longitudinal axis of the balancing axle 114. The longitudinal axis may be understood as the central axis 109. The locking member 122 may slidably movable 123 along a direction along the axis of the balancing axle 114 when attached to the to the spring break protection mechanism 102. The slidably movable may be understood as the locking member 122 being arranged to be slided translationally along the balancing axle 114 from a first position to a second position on the balancing axle 114. Thus, the locking member 122 is arranged to slide along the balancing axle 114. The locking member 122 may, moreover, be slidably movable along the ratchet wheel 116 in a direction perpendicular to the rotation axis of the ratchet wheel 116.
[0069] The locking arrangement 124 may be a screw and nut arrangement 132, see for example Figure la. The screw and nut arrangement 132 is shown in an exploded view in Figure la illustrating an unlocked state. In Figure lb, the screw and nut arrangement 132 is shown in a locked state, i.e. when the screw 132a is tightened to the nut 132b. The screw and nut arrangement 132 may comprise one or more washers 132c. The one or more washers 132c may be arranged to provide spacing between the screw 132a and the nut 132b. The spacing may be that of the thickness on the base plate 110, i.e. the distance between the first and the second sides Illa, 111b of the base plate 110. The one or more washers 132c may be arranged to clamp the base plate 110. An edge portion 136 of the base plate 110 may be clamped by the locking arrangement 124.
[0070] The locking member 122 may further comprise a through hole 134 and wherein the locking arrangement 124 is arranged to extend through the through hole 134 and to clamp the edge portion 136 of the base plate 110, thereby locking the spring break protection mechanism 102 while tensioning the balancing spring 106. This is illustrated for example in Figures 1 and 2.
[0071] Figure 3 illustrates that the locking member 122 comprises a through hole 134 and the base plate 110 comprises a complementary through hole 138, wherein the locking arrangement 124 is arranged to extend through the through holes 134, 138, thereby locking the spring break protection mechanism 102 while tensioning the balancing spring 106.
[0072] The base plate 110 may further comprises a second opening 140, see for example Figures lb or 3, or an indentation, through which the extension 120 is extending from the pawl 118 to the second side of the base plate 110. Figure 4 illustrates parts of an assembly 100 and Figure 5 illustrate an assembly according to some examples. With reference to Figures 4 and 5, it is exemplified that the balancing axle 114 may be arranged to hold the balancing spring 106. Figure 4 further exemplifies that the balancing spring 106 and the spring plug 104 may be coaxially arranged around the balancing axle 114. The balancing spring 106 may be a torsion spring.
[0073] The tensioned balancing spring 106 may be fixed to the balancing axle 114 at a fixation point 142 on the balancing axle 114. The fixation may be by a tightened screw or bolt. The fixation may be arranged at a distal end of the balancing spring 106, the distal end being opposite in an axial direction to the side of the balancing spring 106 having the spring plug 104.
[0074] The balancing spring 106 may be tensioned by a rotational motion 144 relative to the spring break protection mechanism 102.
[0075] The balancing spring 106 may comprise one or more grooves 146 arranged to receive a rope or cable (not shown). The rope or cable may form part of a hoisting arrangement (not shown), the hoisting system may be arranged to raise a sectional door of the sectional door system. To this end, a pulley 156 of the hoisting arrangement may be arranged around the balancing axle 114, see Figure 8.
[0076] With further reference to Figure 2, the looking member 122 may have the form of a disc or plate. The locking member 122 may have a head portion 148 arranged to removably engage with the ratchet wheel 116. The head portion 148 may have the engagement opening 126. The locking member 122 may further have a shaft or handle 150 arranged to facilitate the handling and / or engaging of the locking member 122 to the ratchet wheel 116. The engagement opening 126 may be understood to have a profile 152. The profile 152 may be arranged to match the outer contours of the ratchet wheel 116. Put differently, the profile 152 may be arranged to engage with one or more of the teeth 130 of the ratchet wheel 116.
[0077] The locking member 122 may have a slot 154. The slot 154 may be arranged in the head portion 148. The slot 154 may extend from the edge of the locking member 122 to the engagement opening 126. The locking member 122 may thereby be C-shaped. The slot 154 may be arranged in the head portion 148. The slot 154 may have a width larger than that of the balancing axle 114 allowing the locking member 122 to be positioned around or removed from the balancing axle 114. Figure 6 illustrates a flow chart showing a method 300 for tensioning a balancing spring 106 of a sectional door system 200 while assembling the sectional door system 200 according to some examples.
