Description

[0001] CERTIFIED REFERENCE MATERIAL FOR CHEMICAL ANALYSES OF CHROME ORE

[0002] Technical Field

[0003] The invention relates to a reference material that is suitable for use in all laboratories that can analyse mineral ores and provide services in the metallurgical sector, both in our country and around the world.

[0004] State of the Art

[0005] Mineral analysis refers to the process of identifying and measuring various minerals found in a substance, usually in geological or environmental samples. This analysis is crucial for understanding the composition and properties of rocks, soil, sediments, water, and other natural materials. Mineral analysis is important in a variety of scientific disciplines, including geological exploration, environmental studies, and mining operations. It helps researchers and professionals understand the geological history of a region, assess soil fertility, identify mineral resources, and monitor environmental pollution.

[0006] Reference samples are important for calibration, standardisation, and quality control in mineral analysis. They consist of known compositions that are essential for validating analytical methods, ensuring instrument accuracy, and detecting any deviations or variations over time. Reference materials also facilitate inter-laboratory comparisons, supporting data consistency between studies. In addition, these samples serve as valuable tools for training and troubleshooting, helping analysts develop and improve their skills while optimising methods. Ultimately, the use of reference samples increases the reliability and reproducibility of mineral analysis in geological, environmental, and industrial applications.

[0007] Chromium mineral analysis involves identifying and quantifying the chromium content in geological or environmental samples. Techniques such as X-ray fluorescence (XRF), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) are commonly used. Chromium is an important element in stainless steel production and its presence in soil and water can have environmental effects. Monitoring chromium levels is crucial for assessing soil fertility, understanding geological formations and monitoring potential environmental pollution. Accurate chromium mineral analysis is important for compliance with environmental regulations, ensuring public health and supporting industrial processes that rely on precise control of chromium concentrations.

[0008] Although there are different certified reference materials for ores in the state of the art, the mineralogical properties and matrix structures of certified reference materials obtained from different geographies differ. This causes problems in analysis processes and can lead to erroneous analysis results. In addition, difficulties in procuring these materials cause analysis times to be extended.

[0009] Due to the limitations and inadequacies of the solutions in the state of the art, the fact that the products used vary depending on the region they are procured and the risk of analysis errors due to these changes, it has become necessary to make a development in the field of certified reference material for chromium ore chemical analyses.

[0010] Brief Description and Aims of the Invention

[0011] The invention is a reference material to be used in O2O3 and / or FeO analyses for many different purposes such as determining the contents of ore concentrates, quality control studies, calibration, method development, method validation, providing metrological traceability, measuring the performance of analysts or devices in all chemical laboratories providing ore / metal analysis and / or quality control services in mining, production, export, import and metallurgy sectors.

[0012] The aim of the invention is to provide a certified reference material that enables Cr2O3 and / or FeO analysis and / or quality control. The structure of the material that is the subject of the invention comprises FeCr2O4(chromite).

[0013] Detailed Description of the Invention

[0014] The invention is a certified reference material to be used in the analysis of Cr20a and FeO parameters of the run-of-mine chrome ore concentrated using ore preparation methods.

[0015] The invention comprises chromite minerals with a grain size of 75 microns as the main mineral.

[0016] The use of said certified reference material helps to overcome the problems arising from the geographic changes in the mineralogical structure of the materials in the analysis processes of chrome ores. The produced material comprises chromite concentrate produced as a result of the concentration of raw chrome ore through enrichment processes.
