[0027] This patent describes the subject matter for patenting with specificity to meet statutory requirements. However, the description itself is not intended to limit the scope of this patent. The principles described herein may be embodied in many different forms.

[0028] Illustrative embodiments of the invention now will be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which some, but not all embodiments of the invention are shown. Indeed, the invention may be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will satisfy applicable legal requirements. Like numbers refer to like elements throughout.

[0029] The present invention provides a unique dual purpose power cable for an electrical lamp. The dual-purpose power cable serves two purposes for the lamp: (1) acting as an electrical accessory for the lamp to provide it with electrical power; and (2) also acting as a load bearing cable for the lamp to suspend the article from a height, e.g., a ceiling. The current power cable has a very thin overall diameter lesser than the conventionally present cables wires Like SVT, SJT and SPT. The overall diameter ranges from 2.9mm to 4 mm. Furthermore, in an embodiment, the power cable also has an insulation and a jacket of a type of fluoropolymer / fluoroplastic (FEP) material.

[0030] Generally, the current power cable is for low voltage light weight articles, e.g., a low voltage light weight lamp.

[0031] It may be apparent to a person of ordinary skill that the current power cable may also have lesser diameter than 2.9mm or a little more diameter than 4mm, depending on therequirement of the articles to be powered up, as long as it also has the mechanical strength to bear the suspending weight of the article, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present invention.

[0032] It may also be apparent to a person of ordinary skill that the current power cable may also be used to provide electric power and load bearing feature to any article other than a low voltage light weight lamp, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present invention.

[0033] Referring to FIGs. 1 and 2, the dual-purpose power cable 100A and 100B are shown. For simplicity, both the cables 100A and 100B of the FIGs. 1 and 2 respectively are herein referred to as power cable 100. The inner of the cable 100 may have a plurality of insulated conductor sets 102 extending along the length of the electrical cable 100. In an embodiment, each conductor set 102 has at least one insulated stranded conductor 104, as shown in FIG. 1. In another embodiment, each conductor set 102 has at least two insulated stranded conductors 104, as shown in FIG. 2. In an embodiment, the stranded conductors are made of any electricity conducting material such as including and not limited to copper. In an embodiment, the number of strands in each conductor 104 may be 19.

[0034] Further, each of the insulated stranded conductors 104 is insulated with a type of insulation such as a dielectric material including and not limited to fluoropolymer / fluoroplastic (FEP) material, which may be referred herein as FEP insulation 106.

[0035] In an optional embodiment, after the FEP insulation 106, the stranded conductors 104 may be further wrapped together in a RETURN conductor wrapping, such as including and not limited to an Aluminum foil wrapping 108. In another embodiment, each of the strandedconductors 104 may be further separately wrapped in a RETURN conductor wrapping, such as including and not limited an Aluminum foil wrapping 108.

[0036] Furthermore, the whole power cable 100 may also have a jacket for further protection. This jacket may be made of a type of fluoropolymer / fluoroplastic (FEP) material, which may be referred herein as FEP jacket 110.

[0037] The power cable 100 has a thin overall diameter, which saves material of construction. Also, the power cables 100 has such physical parameters [see e.g., Tables 1-4], which provides sufficient mechanical strength for suspending an article from a height. The power cable 100 has a Tensile Strength Before Ageing of 10.3MPa min. to provide the high mechanical strength of 40 lbs. without breakage for suspending the articles.

[0038] In exemplary embodiments, following are at least four system capacities to implement the power cable 100 of the current invention. The mechanical and electrical load ability and functionality of the power cable 100 are found to be safe to use as per industrial norms of similar articles.

[0039] Single core 18 AWG 2.9mm diameter for upto 30 Watts [further specifications in Table 1]

[0042] 2 core 22 AWG wire 3.20 mm diameter for up to 10 watts [further specifications in Table 4]

[0043] It may also be apparent to a person of ordinary skill that the current power cable 100 may also be used to other various system specifications as long as they are safe to use and provide sufficient mechanical and electrical load ability, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present invention.

[0044] In an exemplary embodiment, the power cable 100 may be used in Class 2 Pendant lamp where lamp weight approx. 10 Lb.

[0045] Thus, advantageously, the power cable 100 is used for articles e.g., lamps and can replace the thick diameter of wire and also replace the conductive accessories in lamp. Additionally, the electrical cable 100 operates as the electrical accessory for the light weight luminaire for conducting electrical power, as well as the load hanging accessory for suspending the light weight luminaire from a desired height.
