Description

[0001] AN ANTI-STAIN PACKAGING

[0002] Technical Field

[0003] The invention relates to anti-stain packaging that prevents the colors in aggressive products containing oil, spice, and sauce in retort bags from migrating to the outer surface of the bag during heat treatment.

[0004] State of the Art

[0005] It is crucial to maintain the freshness and nutritional value of the product in the process of delivering food from the manufacturer to the consumer. For this purpose, various preservation methods have been used from past to present. Packaging technology is one of these preservation methods and it is aimed to increase the shelf life of the products safely.

[0006] The main function of food packaging, which has many types and different functions, is to ensure that foodstuffs are presented to the consumer safely after production. On the other hand, the foodstuff in the package interacts with the package until the package is opened.

[0007] Although the main function of the packaging is to protect the product in the best way according to the structure and shape of the product and to keep it clean, the packaging is also a valuable material that promotes the product.

[0008] For this reason, the outer surface of the packaging showing marketing functions such as promotion and advertising is important. However, the migration of the different components of the packages to the packaging material can cause the outer surfaces of the packages to deteriorate.

[0009] This constitutes an important disadvantage, especially in the packaging used during the packaging of products with oil, spice, or sauce density. Considering the marketing and promotion function of the packaging, deterioration of the outer surface of the packaging due to migration can constitute an important disadvantage. For example, in such products; oil, spice or sauce permeability gives an unclean appearance to the outside of the bag, especially the light tones in the print take the color of the sauce or spices in the product and can leave a negative impression on the customer on the grocery shelf.

[0010] Retort bags provide sterilization and pasteurization of products that require longer freshness and shelf life, such as soups, sauces, wet pet foods, and ready-to-serve foods, both for children and adults. Retort (autoclavable) bag solutions create a high barrier against oxygen, moisture, and light, offering a longer shelf life with optimal vitamins, taste, and aroma protection. Retort bags can be manufactured with aluminum or high-barrier transparent plastic layers depending on the conditions and marketing requirements of the sterilization or pasteurization process.

[0011] The autoclavability of the retort bags can cause the colors in the aggressive products containing oil, spice, and sauce to migrate to the outer surface of the bag during heat treatment. For this reason, surface deformation problems of the packaging may be experienced more frequently, especially in packaging materials subjected to heat treatment such as retort bags.

[0012] Packaging, which is the state of the art, contains PET / PETAlox / PET white / Polypropylene or PET / PETAlox / PP or PET / PETAlox / OPA / PP compositions, which are mostly used in order to prevent oil-, spice- and sauce-containing products from coloring the outer surface of the bag.

[0013] The material thickness used within these embodiments is 116-122 microns in total.

[0014] However, since the packaging structures used within the current art are non-recyclable, this constitutes a disadvantage. Today, the increasing interest in non-recyclable packaging structures reduces the demand for these products.

[0015] On the other hand, these packaging structures, which are known within the current art, are mostly formed with 4 layers and require 3 lamination processes. This embodiment both prolongs the process time and increases the production cost. In fact, the most important disadvantage caused by existing packaging structures is that their anti-stain capabilities are very low. For this reason, especially in heat-treated packages, the outer surfaces of the packaging can be deformed due to product transitions.

[0016] Anti-stain packaging is a type of packaging material usually used in the packaging of food and beverage products. This packaging material is resistant to external factors and has antistain properties. In this way, it ensures that the products stay fresh for a long time and prevents the formation of stains. Anti-stain packaging is usually made of materials such as plastic or coated cardboard. However, known anti-stain packaging samples can also constitute a disadvantage since they are formed from complex structures.

[0017] Objects of the Invention

[0018] The object of the invention is to create an anti-stain packaging that allows the colors in aggressive products containing oil, spice, and sauce, especially in retort bags, to migrate to the outer surface of the bag during heat treatment.

[0019] Thanks to the packaging structure created, the barrier property of the packaging has been increased and the ability of the packaging to act as a barrier against both oxygen permeability and oil, sauce and spice permeability has been increased.

[0020] It is much easier to produce the packaging material of the invention than the existing retort bags. It may be sufficient to perform only a single lamination process while forming the packaging material within the preferred embodiments of the invention.

[0021] This allows both the process time to be shortened and the production costs to be significantly reduced.

[0022] The packaging material of the invention can provide a solution for the creation of both recyclable and non-recyclable packaging structures. One of the embodiments of the invention can create a solution for the creation of recyclable packaging material, while other embodiments can provide a solution for the creation of non-recyclable packaging structures.

[0027] Detailed Description of the Invention

[0028] The invention relates to anti-stain packaging that allows the colors in aggressive products containing oil, spice, and sauce in retort bags to migrate to the outer surface of the bag during heat treatment.

[0029] The anti-stain packaging of the invention contains a barrier layer, at least a part of which is in the structure of EVOH (Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol).

[0030] The packaging material of the invention comprises at least one primary layer containing EVOH, forming the packaging base / adhesion layer, and at least one secondary layer that can be printed on. Afterwards, this base / adhesion layer and top coat are laminated, and packaging material is formed.

[0031] Within the preferred embodiment of the invention, the packaging material is of a double-layer structure consisting of a single primary layer and a single secondary layer. The double layer embodiment can be combined with a single lamination process.

[0032] The top layer defines the layer on which the printing is made. This layer contains PET and / or BOPP within the preferred embodiment of the invention.

[0033] According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the primary layer forming the base / adhesion layer comprises the EVOH barrier layer positioned between at least two PP (polypropylene) layers. The primary layer contains at least a co-extruded film structure of PP / EVOH / PP.

[0034] One of the embodiments of the invention is shown in Figure 1 (first example embodiment). Within this embodiment, the packaging is formed in a double-layer structure. Within this embodiment, the primary layer is formed by confining the EVOH barrier layer between two PP layers. The secondary layer contains PET (polyethylene terephthalate). It is subjected to lamination with the two-layer structure created.

[0035] In order to create the packaging material subject to this embodiment, it is sufficient to perform a single lamination process.

[0036] Another embodiment of the invention is shown in Figure 2 (second example embodiment). Within this embodiment, the packaging is formed in a double-layer structure. Again, the EVOH barrier layer was trapped between two PP layers (primary layers), and this layer was laminated with BOPP (bi-oriented polypropylene) layer (secondary layer).

[0037] In order to create the packaging material subject to this embodiment, it is sufficient to perform a single lamination process.

[0038] Another embodiment of the invention is shown in Figure 3 (third example embodiment). Within this embodiment, the packaging is formed in a double-layer structure. Again, the EVOH barrier layer is trapped between two PP layers. However, within this embodiment, at least one PA (polyamide) layer was formed between each EVOH barrier layer and the PP layer. This described combined structure constitutes the primary layer of the packaging.

[0039] The primary layer formed by the above components was laminated with BOPP (bi-oriented polypropylene) layer (secondary layer).

[0040] In order to create the packaging material subject to this embodiment, it is sufficient to perform a single lamination process.

[0041] Another embodiment of the invention is shown in Figure 4 (fourth example embodiment).

[0042] Within this embodiment, the packaging is formed in a double-layer structure. Again, the EVOH barrier layer is trapped between two PP layers. However, within this embodiment, at least one PA (polyamide) layer was formed between each EVOH barrier layer and the PP layer. This described combined structure constitutes the primary layer of the packaging.

[0043] The total layer formed with the above components was laminated with PET (polyethylene terephthalate) layer (secondary layer).

[0044] In order to create the packaging material subject to this embodiment, it is sufficient to perform a single lamination process.

[0045] Due to the EVOH barrier layer feature within the packaging material of the invention, it keeps oxygen permeability as low as 1 cc / m2 / 24 hours and acts as a barrier against oil, sauce, and spice permeability. In this way, especially in retort bags, the colors in aggressive products containing oil, spice and sauce are prevented from migrating to the outer surface of the bag during heat treatment.

[0046] The second exemplary embodiment described above (Figure 2) describes the embodiment of the invention used to form the recyclable packaging material. Other exemplary embodiments (first, third, and fourth exemplary embodiments) describe embodiments used to form non- recyclable packaging material.
