Description

GLASS ASSEMBLY, WINDOW ASSEMBLY AND MEANS OF TRANSPORTATIONFIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of glass manufacturing, in particular to a glass assembly, a window assembly using the glass assembly, and a means of transportation comprising the glass assembly or the window assembly.BACKGROUND

[0002] With the rapid development of means of transportation industry and the increasing demand by consumers for functionality enabled by, for example, vehicle, there is an increasing demand for thermal insulation glass in the field of vehicle. The thermal insulation glass generally uses a thermal insulation coating or film layer on a surface of a glass plate, for example, infrared reflective metal layer such as silver (Ag) coating, or low-radiation layer such as indium tin oxide (ITO) coating, to achieve thermal insulation. The coating or film layer has poor durability, so that the service life is reduced, thereby affecting the thermal insulation performance.

[0003] As a typical thermal insulation glass, hollow glass has been widely used in building decoration, ornament, renovation and the like, and has become an indispensable material for modern buildings due to its good thermal insulation, sound insulation and safety. The hollow glass generally forms a hollow cavity between two glass plates, and the hollow cavity is filled with an inert gas or vacuumed, thereby achieving good thermal insulation and sound insulation performance. In some vehicle glasses, the hollow glass is tried to be used to achieve the thermal insulation. However, in the actual manufacturing and application process, it is found that the concentration of the inert gas is closely related to the thermal insulation effect, and thus good sealing performance between the glass plates is required to avoid the possibility of escape of the inert gas, which increases the manufacturing difficulty and cost. In addition, it is difficult and costly to form a vacuum structure between the generally curved vehicle glass plates, and since the vacuum structure causes a large pressure difference between inside and outside of the glass plates, it is easy to damage the mechanical property of the glass plate, resulting in potential safety hazards.SUMMARY

[0004] An object of the present disclosure is to solve the above problems and provides a glass assembly, which provides at least good thermal insulation function in a cost-effective and reliable manner, and is particularly suitable for the means of transportation.

[0027] The implementation and use of the embodiments are discussed in detail below. However, it should be understood that the specific embodiments discussed merely exemplify the specific ways of implementing and using the present disclosure, and do not limit the scope of the disclosure. When describing the structural positions of various components, such as the directions of upper, lower, top, bottom, etc., the description is not absolute, but relative. When the various components are arranged as shown in the figures, these directional expressions are appropriate, but when the positions of the various components in the figures would be changed, these directional expressions would also be changed accordingly.

[0028] In this context, the expression "comprising" or similar expressions "having" and so on which are synonymous are open, and do not exclude additional unlisted elements, steps or ingredients.

[0029] In this context, the terms "first" , "second" and so on are not used to limit the sequence and the number of components unless otherwise stated.

[0030] In this context, unless otherwise specifically defined, terms such as "connect" , "attach" should be understood broadly. For example, it can be fixed connection, detachable connection or integrated; it can be directly connected or indirectly connected through an intermediate medium, and it can be the internal communication of two components or the interaction between two components. For those skilled in the art, the specific meanings of the above terms in this context can be understood according to specific situations.

[0031] In this context, the meaning of "a plurality of" refers to two or more than two, unless otherwise specified.

[0032] In this context, "surface" of the glass body or each laminated layer structure is a surface with a larger surface area in each surface of the glass body or each laminated layer structure, and "edge" is a surface defined by thickness in each surface of the glass body or each laminated layer structure. "Section" of the glass assembly is taken along the thickness direction of the glass assembly.

[0033] In this context, a glass assembly applied to a vehicle window glass will be described, but it does not exclude that the glass assembly or the window assembly including the glass assembly can be applied to other environments such as door, window, curtain wall, airplane glass or ship glass. When the glass assembly is described as the vehicle window glass of a vehicle, "outside" and "inside" refer to the directions relative to vehicle body, "outside" refers to the direction away from the vehicle body and "inside" refers to the direction facing the vehicle body. It should be understood that the vehicle window glass according to the embodiment of the present disclosure includes, but is not limited to, front windshield, rear windshield, skylight glass, vehicle door glass (including front vehicle door glass and rear vehicle door glass) or corner window glass.

[0034] In the various described embodiments, unless otherwise specified, the thickness of the glass is the thickness commonly used in the art, and the thickness of each laminated structure on the glass is suitable for the conventional range, and is not limited as shown in the figures. In addition, although it is shown as plane glass in the figures, the glass assembly of the present disclosure may also be curved glass. In various embodiments, it is described as an independent glass body; however, in some undescribed cases, special coating and / or film layer can also be used on the surface of the glass body to provide other properties not exemplified below.

[0035] With the increasing demand for thermal insulation glass in the vehicle field, it is desirable for manufacturers and most vehicle users to improve the thermal insulation performance of the thermal insulation glass and improve the service life thereof. It has been recognized that the manner in which the thermal insulation is achieved by applying coating or film layer to the surface of the glass has poor durability, while the manner in which the hollow glass is filled with an inert gas or vacuumed increases manufacturing difficulty and cost, and is prone to damage the mechanical property of the hollow glass to result in safety hazards. Therefore, the above existing manners cannot satisfy the manufacturers and the consumers.

[0036] To this end, the present disclosure proposes a glass assembly which is capable of not only providing the thermal insulation function in a cost-effective and reliable manner, but also providing, for example, switching thermal insulation states on demand, and / or providing additional functions, such as privacy function, etc., depending on different requirements. In this context, "thermal insulation" is relative to heat transfer, which can also be referred to as thermal isolation, and means that heat transfer between objects can be insulated or weakened. For the vehicle window glass, it may be understood according to different environments as insulating or weakening the heat from the outside of the vehicle into the interior of the vehicle (for example, in summer environment) , or insulating or weakening the heat from the inside of the vehicle from overflowing to the exterior of the vehicle (for example, in winter environment) . "Privacy" is for people inside the vehicle, that is, the vehicle window glass can make people outside the vehicle unable to clearly see the situation inside the vehicle, thereby realizing the privacy protection function.

[0037] According to the concept of the present disclosure, a glass assembly is provided. The glass assembly comprises: a glass body; and an insulation structure arranged on the glass body or arranged in the glass body, wherein the insulation structure comprises a hollow chamber adapted to receive an insulation material and is configured to be switchable between an insulated state in which the insulation material is filled and a non-insulated state in which the insulation material is removed.

[0038] Compared with the existing manners, the glass assembly of the present disclosure achieves an insulation function through the insulation structure capable of receiving the insulation material, the insulation structure may be configured to be thin to fit the surface of the glass body, and the hollow chamber does not need a vacuum design and may be pre-packaged and then laminated with the glass body, which is easy to implement and is particularly suitable for, for example, a vehicle window glass having a curved surface. Meanwhile, with the selection of the insulation material, the glass assembly may have various appropriate functions according to different requirements, including but not limited to thermal insulation, sound insulation, privacy protection, etc. In addition, the state switching of the glass assembly (specifically, the state switching of the insulation structure) may be achieved by filling and removing the insulation material, which enables the user to select whether to switch the glass assembly to be in the insulated state according to actual conditions, provides operation controllability, and is applicable to different application environments or occasions.

[0039] It should be understood that the glass assembly of the present disclosure encompasses single-layer glass body and laminated glass having multiple layers of glass body. FIG. 1 exemplarily illustrates a glass assembly 100 in the form of a laminated glass according to an embodiment, including a first glass body 110 and a second glass body 120, and an adhesive layer attaching the first glass body 110 and the second glass body 120 to each other. Specifically, the adhesive layer includes a first adhesive layer 130a attached to the first glass body 110 and a second adhesive layer 130b attached to the second glass body 120.

[0040] Depending on different requirements, the insulation structure may be arranged on a surface of the glass body or embedded in the glass body. When the embedding manner is used, the glass body may be provided with, for example, an accommodating groove or a through hole capable of accommodating the insulation structure. For the laminated glass with multiple layers of glass body, in different embodiments, the insulation structure 140 may be arranged on a surface of the first glass body 110 away from the second glass body 120, or arranged on a surface of the second glass body 120 away from the first glass body 110, or sandwiched between the first glass body 110 and the second glass body 120, or embedded in the first glass body 110 and / or the second glass body 120. Here, "between" covers various arrangements in which the insulation structure 140 is directly adjacent to or not directly adjacent to the first glass body 110 or the second glass body 120. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the insulation structure 140 is sandwiched between the first glass body 110 and the second glass body 120, and is attached to the first glass body 110 through the first adhesive layer 130a, and is attached to the second glass body 120 through the second adhesive layer 130b.

[0041] In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the insulation structure 140 is illustrated to substantially cover the entire glass body along the surface direction of the glass body, which means that the area of the insulation structure 140 along the surface direction of the glass body (or the glass assembly) may be consistent with the area of the glass body, that is, the area of the insulation structure 140 is substantially equal to the area of the glass body, or the area of the insulation structure 140 is slightly greater than or slightly less than the area of the glass body, so that a comprehensive insulation effect can be provided along the surface direction of the glass body (or the glass assembly) . It should be understood that, depending on different requirements, the insulation structure 140 may also cover a portion of the glass body along the surface direction of the glass body.

[0042] The first adhesive layer 130a and the second adhesive layer 130b are adhesive layers suitable for the laminated glass such as polyvinyl butyral (PVB) , ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and optically clear adhesive (OCA) , etc., which are not limited in the present disclosure.

[0043] In some embodiments, for example, when the insulation structure 140 is sandwiched between the first glass body 110 and the second glass body 120 shown in FIG. 1, if the insulation structure 140 covers a portion of the glass body along the surface direction of the glass body, a picture frame structure may be arranged along the edge of the insulation structure 140. The picture frame structure can achieve pre-position of the insulation structure 140 between the first glass body 110 and the second glass body 120 to fill the thickness difference between the edge of the insulation structure 140 and the adhesive layer, thereby ensuring complete sealing of the glass assembly after lamination. Alternatively, the picture frame structure may be selected to be made of the material as described above same as the adhesive layer. When the thickness of the insulation structure 140 is sufficiently small, the picture frame structure may also be omitted.

[0044] FIG. 2 exemplarily illustrates a glass assembly 100-1 according to another embodiment. Different from the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the insulation structure 140 is arranged on the surface of the second glass body 120 away from the first glass body 110. Specifically, the first glass body 110 and the second glass body 120 are attached through the first adhesive layer 130a, and the insulation structure 140 is attached to the surface of the second glass body 120 away from the first glass body 110 through the second adhesive layer 130b. When the glass assembly 100-1 is applied to, for example, the vehicle window glass, the first glass body 110 may face the outside of the vehicle (which may be referred to as outer glass) , and the second glass body 120 may face the inside of the vehicle (which may be referred to as inner glass) . Compared with the glass assembly 100 in which the insulation structure 140 is arranged between the first glass body 110 and the second glass body 120, the manufacturing of the glass assembly 100-1 is easier to implement, and the cost is relatively low. Similarly, compared with arranging the insulation structure 140 on the surface of the glass body facing the outside of the vehicle, the insulation structure 140 arranged on the surface of the glass body facing the inside of the vehicle can obtain better weather resistance and a longer service life.

[0045] Regardless of the arrangement, according to the present disclosure, the insulation structure 140 may be configured to include two transparent base layers arranged in parallel, and the two base layers are connected to each other and form the hollow chamber therebetween. The insulation structure is made of transparent material, the existence of the insulation structure does not significantly affect the transparency of the glass assembly, which is particularly beneficial to the application of the vehicle window glass. Advantageously, the insulated state of the insulation structure is a haze state, and the non-insulated state is a transparent state. In this way, the insulation structure in the insulated state can obtain, for example, a privacy effect, to avoid a case in which people outside the vehicle observes the interior of the vehicle, and the insulation structure in the non-insulated state can meet a requirement of an observation field of view of a driver or a passenger.

[0046] Alternatively, the material of the base layer of the insulation structure includes, but is not limited to, glass (e.g., ultra-thin glass) , polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polycarbonate (PC) . The connection of the two base layers may be in any known suitable manner and is not limited herein. Advantageously, the two base layers of the insulation structure are hermetically connected and form the hollow chamber therebetween while leaving an inlet for filling the insulation material, and the inlet is also advantageously hermetically connected with a conveying device which will be described below. Considering the process adaptability when the insulation structure and the glass body (especially the glass body of the vehicle window glass) are stacked or laminated, the thickness of the insulation structure may be configured to be relatively thin. Alternatively, the thickness of each of the base layers may range from 0.05 mm to 1 mm, the thickness of the formed hollow chamber may range from 0.1 mm to 2 mm, and the thickness of the insulation structure may range from 0.2 mm to 4 mm. In some embodiments, the thickness of the insulation structure may be 0.3 mm to 0.8 mm, such as 0.38 mm or 0.76 mm, so as to match the conventional thickness of the adhesive layer (such as PVB) used in the glass assembly to simplify the process. For example, when the ultra-thin glass is used as the base layer, the thickness of the ultra-thin glass usually ranges from 0.05 mm to 1.1 mm, and according to different requirements, the thickness of the base layer may be 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm, etc., and the thickness of the formed hollow chamber may be 0.18 mm, 0.36 mm, 0.56 mm, etc.

[0047] In order to obtain the thermal insulation effect, the insulation material is selected from a material with low thermal conductivity, and advantageously has good fluidity, so as to be suitable for being filled into or removed from the hollow chamber of the insulation structure. Further, in order to achieve the insulated state (the haze state) of the insulation structure, the insulation material may be constructed as a micron-to-nanoscale particle powder or a suspension having micron-to-nanoscale particles, and the insulation material is in the haze state when being filled into the hollow chamber. In some embodiments, when in the insulated state, the haze of the glass assembly is related to a filling amount of the insulation material in the hollow chamber, that is, the insulated state may include a completely insulated state in which the insulation material completely fills the hollow chamber, i.e. the filling amount of the insulation material in the hollow chamber is 100%, and a partially insulated state in which the insulation material partially fills the hollow chamber, for example, the filling amount of the insulation material in the hollow chamber may be 1%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 99%, and any value in the interval where any two values listed above as endpoints, so that the insulation structure and then the glass assembly can present a certain haze. For example, between the completely insulated state in which the insulation material completely fills the hollow chamber and the non-insulated state in which the insulation material does not fill the hollow chamber, when the filling amount of the insulation material meets the thermal insulation effect while obviously giving consideration to the privacy effect, the haze of the insulation structure or the glass assembly having the insulation structure may be greater than or equal to 2%, greater than or equal to 5%, greater than or equal to 8%, or greater than or equal to 10%. Herein, haze is the ratio of the scattered luminous flux that passes through the sample and deviates from the incident light of normal direction to the transmitted luminous flux, expressed with %. Typically, only the scattered luminous flux deviating from the incident light direction by 2.5 degrees or more is used to calculate the haze, and it is measured by a haze meter according to the standards GB2410 and ASTM D1003.

[0048] Alternatively, the insulation material comprises a sol or gel of nanoparticles of silica (SiO2) , alumina (Al2O3) , zirconia (ZrO2) or titanium dioxide (TiO2) , preferably nanoparticles of silica in the form of sol-gel or aero-gel.

[0049] The nanoparticles of silica prepared by the sol-gel method is a porous solid material, which has special micro-structure characteristics such as extremely high specific surface area, high porosity, nanoscale pores, low density, etc., and has high dispersibility and high fluidity, and these characteristics make it have a series of excellent physicochemical properties, including high temperature resistance, high elasticity, strong adsorption, good waterproof effect, wide service temperature range, long service life, etc. The nanoparticles of silica in the form of aero-gel refer to a nanoscale porous solid material formed by the sol-gel method by replacing liquid phase in the gel with gas in a certain drying manner. The nanoparticles of silica in the form of sol-gel or aero-gel will present different forms of spatial network structures, such as clusters and blocks. Compared with other products with the same particle size, the nanoparticles of silica have high fluidity without clusters among particles, and can occupy a larger space volume with very small amount, which has excellent cost efficiency. In addition, the aero-gel of silica has a refractive index close to 1 and an extinction coefficient up to 100 or more, which can effectively prevent infrared radiation, that is, it has a good thermal insulation effect. Since air is generally above 80%in the aero-gel, the thermal insulation effect is more prominent.

[0050] In this way, by filling the hollow chamber of the insulation structure 140 with, for example, the nanoparticles of silica in the form of sol-gel or aero-gel, thermal conduction passing through the glass assembly can be effectively isolated or greatly reduced and privacy protection on one side of the glass assembly can be provided via the haze state and transparent state which can be switched, thereby obtaining a good combination of the thermal insulation effect and the privacy effect.

[0051] In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 or FIG. 2, the insulation structure 140 is communicated to a conveying device, and is configured to be in the insulated state by filling the hollow chamber with the insulation material via the conveying device, or to be in the non-insulated state by removing the insulation material via the conveying device. Specifically, in some embodiments, the conveying device includes a container 150 for containing the insulation material and a conveying pipe 160. The conveying pipe 160 may be any pipe suitable for delivering the insulation material in the container 150 to the insulation structure 140, and is advantageously hermetically connected with the inlet of the insulation structure as described above. The conveying pipe is preferably a flexible pipe so as to place the container 150 in place. For example, as shown in FIG. 3, when the glass assembly 100 is applied as the vehicle window glass, the container 150 can be hidden in the space behind an interior trim panel 200 of the vehicle without affecting the appearance.

[0052] Advantageously, the conveying device comprises a conveying pump connected to the container and the conveying pipe and configured to be capable of adjusting the filling amount and a removing amount of the insulation material in the hollow chamber. In other words, the filling of the hollow chamber with the insulation material and the removal of the insulation material from the hollow chamber is accomplished with the pumping and suction of the conveying pump. By controlling the conveying pump and in turn controlling the filling amount or the removing amount of the insulation material in the hollow chamber, any one of the completely insulated state, the partially insulated state, and the non-insulated state of the insulation structure can be achieved, so that the glass assembly provides the thermal insulation effect and / or the privacy effect based on different insulation requirements of the user.

[0053] The present disclosure further provides a means of transportation including a glass assembly described above or a window assembly including the glass assembly. By way of example, the means of transportation includes, but is not limited to, vehicle, airplane, ship, etc.

[0054] It should be understood here that the embodiments shown in the drawings only illustrate the optional architectures, shapes, sizes and arrangements of various optional components of the glass assembly according to the present disclosure; however, it is only illustrative rather than restrictive, and other shapes, sizes and arrangements can be adopted without departing from the spirit and scope of the present disclosure.

[0055] The technical content and technical features of the present disclosure have been disclosed above. However, it can be understood that those skilled in the art can make various changes and improvements to the above disclosed concept under the creative idea of the present disclosure, all of which fall within the protection scope of the present disclosure. The description of the above embodiments is illustrative rather than restrictive, and the protection scope of the present disclosure is determined by the claims.
