AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional methods for handling data packets in 5G and 6G networks experience increased latency, network congestion, and inefficiencies due to complex tunneling processes and lack of efficient IP address management, leading to service interruptions and degraded performance during international roaming.

Method used

A system and method that utilizes an Intermediate-User Plane Function (I-UPF) to sniff the IP address from a Router Advertisement (RA) message, store it, and manage data packets based on this information, enabling efficient routing between a visited and home network.

Benefits of technology

Reduces latency and network congestion by ensuring accurate data packet routing, improving network efficiency and service quality during international roaming.

Abstract

The present disclosure provides a system (108) and a method (600) for handling at least one data packet between a visited network and a home network. The system (108) includes at least one visited network function (NF). The at least one visited network function (NF) is configured to receive at least one router advertisement (RA) message from at least one home NF and extract at least one information element (IE) associated with a user equipment (UE) (104) from the RA message. The extracted IE is stored in a memory (204) associated with the visited NF for subsequent processing. The visited NF receives at least one data packet from the home NF and handles the data packet towards the UE (104) based on the stored IE.
